just back from my 75 min power flow yoga class...last class for me until Monday - New Year's Day when the studio is having a kick off the New Year class at 3pm...don't have a better excuse to pull away from football and football food than to start the New Year off right! Friday/Sat/Sun will be walks for me. TT
-
Trmtab, I like that philosophy of ending the end/kicking off the new year with the yoga class. I always make sure I exercise on the last and the first day of the year. I think it sets the tone!
Moth, you are a woman after my own heart. I used to love to go with my son to the sledding hill and use his snowboard.
Heidi, precious time with your daughter. I always try to remind myself that our job is to get them to adulthood, so bittersweet to have an 18 year old who wants to go out in the world.
We had a slight break in the weather and some snow to make it a pretty walk, so I took a 33 minute walk today and then came home and did planks and upper body weights.
-
Nice picture, Heidi. Ah teenagers.......if you wait them out, there will come a time when they will actually want to do things with you again!
Welcome, samp7!
I walked (indoors) and did a toning DVD. It is SO COLD.........
-
Cute, Ruthbru! I got a good laugh out of the two pictures you sent. Of course, it's easy for me to laugh because I live in sunny Florida! Moved here from Connecticut because.....you guessed it! Snow, low temperatures, and ice! Stay warm and safe up there!
Heidi - kids do grow up and then they actually like their parents! We raised 3 daughters and now have 4 granddaughters, and we love the payback our daughters are getting!!
-
Ruthbru - Very funny! Yesterday I walked 10,000 steps with my husband! I was pretty tired out today though.
-
hi all and welcome the new ladies! I started a walking program with a $5 pedometer and a good pair of sneakers so exercise doesn't have to be expensive. That said, a gym membership and extra $$ on personal training sessions is money well-spent IMHO.
It's been crazy cold here too but today we got some of that glittering diamond dust snow. So pretty I didn't mind the 30 mins Shovel & Sculpt but was glad to get back inside brrrr.
Politico Magazine recently published an article with their Most Popular Reads of 2017. My favorite was I Did Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Workout. It Nearly Broke Me. about pumping iron with RBG's personal trainer. Love the illustration of her doing a side plank!

Three days after BMX, I was in the kitchen making pizza. My sister, who is a nurse, spent the whole time yelling at me. "What feels good when you're healthy, will stress out your body when you're trying to heal", she kept saying. Of course, two hours later, I was on the couch feeling horrible. So, while I did do my first long walk today, I made my son come along, just in case. I told him if I pass out, call 911. Happy to say there was no need for an ambulance, and it feels good to have gotten back into exercise mode. When I don't exercise, my blood pressure creeps up. It's exercise or medicate.
ruthbru, those pictures make me laugh.
TrmTab, what a great plan for New Year's day. I tried yoga once. It was embarrassing.
-
Hi Exercisers!! Just popping in after being MIA - for a while...but have been exercising like crazy over the past week, because it really helps chase away the holiday blues...
Loving "Body Combat" classes these days, much more so than "U-Jam"...
I think I'm addicted to it - because it's over-the-top crazy, high energy hard (at least for me it's super hard!) But, I cravvvvve it!!
-
Welcome Samp7, Helen-Ruth,Gwendolendenise, and Nightcrawler! HeidiHill, Happy Birthday to DD - like the B'day run-up and hang in there (we found 19 to be the pivoting point). Badger, thanks for the links wow, I now think 83 year old Ruth Bader Ginsburg, is even more awesome!! TrmTab, I've signed up for yoga teacher training that starts in April. Moth, thanks for the excellent link of exercise and low BMI being key point to improve prognosis and optimize overall health. Runnermum and Tpralph, I agree with you both on the linked articles. More coffee and shower, then off to the gym in Folkestone for BodyBalance and then elsewhere for Pilates. Have a terrific start to the New Years kick-off weekend everyone!
-
Ruth, thank you for the laugh, and Badger, thanks for the inspiration. RBG is one of my all time heroines. And that article gives her the reverence she deserves even off the bench!
-
started yesterday ladies, nice walk with hubbie and our dog, felt great
-
I did marathon cooking yesterday, over 12 gallons of chili for our thank you party! But I guess that marathon doesn't count!
We are at minus 5 F today. Hard to motivate to get out!
-
WelcomeMexicoHeather!
We are under a windchill advisory through Monday........The high today is minus 5 and tomorrow the high is predicted to be minus 14!
I have a 'Notorious RBG' tee shirt that I wear on occasion......love that woman!
I am going to do some toning at home this morning and go to Zumba tonight. I have some errands that won't wait, so will force myself out of the house this afternoon.
I am nearly out of leftovers so can begin to chip off the holiday pounds. Happy Friday!
-
Hope you guys are right. Will give DD another year
Really impressed with RBG. Thanks for the link, badger.
2Fun, all that chopping, stirring and lifting counts.
Took a hike in the cold, but not as cold as ND or MN.
-
You ladies in the cold, careful. I know I would be hibernating were I still in the north so my hat's off to you all. Only in 50s here in FL but found some sweats, have a hat, (but no gloves) so will get out for a walk in a bit.
Later sculpted friends.
-
Got in 7K steps despite stinging sleet, my new average for the past week or so. Not yet 10K but it’s a lot better than what I had been doing! Carless until Tuesday, so I skipped Pilates this afternoon because it would have meant another hour walk each way in yup more sleet (and I am sore all over from yesterday’s Kinesis!). Plan to do at least a bit of handweight and balance this evening instead. Enjoy your day, sculptured friends!
-
Oh my - I won't complain about our temperatures here in Florida! Ruthbru, Tessu, and Heidihill - you all be careful out there. I
-
Welcome to all the new ladies and Hi to Everyone else! Was under the weather with a sinus/virus thing so laid low on exercising. But had a fabulous Christmas with family, friends, and lots of food! Today I felt good enough to go enjoy my walk (no running this time). Nice to be back at it!
-
Another tolerable day - 14 degrees and light snow, so I got my DH to go out walking today. 27 minute walk and 33 minutes shovel and sculpt. We had our two day break - tomorrow we have the "dangerous wind chill" warnings back.
I've tried all week to chip off those holiday pounds, and I've weighed the same every day! Ugh, this is going to be harder than I thought.
-
Somehow, I did another 5600 steps today. But it was mostly around the house. The only other thing I did was walk down to get the mail, and that's only about 4-5 blocks. I didn't overindulge much at Christmas but I still have about 10 pounds of stomach, thighs, and butt to lose. But at least now I am working on it ins
-
Heidihill,TwoHobbies, tease, and ruthbru The fortitude of mind to exercise against the elements, SERIOUS RESPECT!
-
Went out to the local trail and walked a mile. Then I walked around two bookstores and found some things to read. Three days ago, I switched from Tamoxifen to Letrozole. So far, so good. Still hot flashing. Went to the hair stylist and we are still cracking up about my curly locks.
-
Here I am at Happy Hour (aka Friday Evening Zumba class).....as you can see, there are other hardy (crazy) people willing to brave the cold to exercise! Patoo, if you peek through the arms, you can see I am wearing a pair of our funky leggings.
-
I see them! Can't believe you all went out in that COLD weather up there!
-
I finally made it to 10,000 steps yesterday. I can't believe it. I just hope I can keep it up.
Mexico Heather - Your hair can't possibly be as curly as mine. Although, I had thick & curly hair to begin with. It has been a struggle trying to tame it every day. My arms get a workout everyday just blow drying and styling it. I'm sure your hair looks beautiful.
I have a quick question on the switch to Letrozole. Did they have to do any tests do check the hormone levels prior to that? I really hate the hot flashes and night sweating caused by Tamoxifen. I really haven't had a decent night's rest since February. I'd like to know if the switch makes any difference. I'm sure you have to take it longer than 3 days to see an actual difference. Hopefully it gets better for you.
Ruth - I see your tights. Are they the leopard ones? They're very comfortable. I may order some more soon.
To all the cold weather gals - Stay safe! I've been watching the news about the weather up north. It looks brutal.

35 minutes on the exercise bike, but only ”regular steady” not HIT, way too sore all over. Then lots of bending/lifting clearing out another closet (two huge bags to the trash again yay!). Haven’t been outdoors, and it’s already dark (3:30 PM), and slippery, so outdoor exercise will have to wait until tomorrow. Enjoy your weekend!
-
More snow yesterday so did 30 mins Shovel & Sculpt to clear the sidewalk and driveway when I got home from mom's last night. So cold the snow crunched under my boots. We have to brave the weather or we'd never go anywhere and might run out of essentials like TP and coffee! Planning to hit the gym later today.
-
Badger I noticed the sound of the snow this morning.
Tessu, 3:30 and already dark. Its dark here around 4:30 to 4:45. You must get the 10 pm sunset in the summer?
For those who think we are cold weather superhumans, we are not, we just know how to dress! My walking is done with leggings under Salomon ski pants, an Underarmour hoody under a North Face coat, gloves. hat with hood up, Sorel boots, and a scarf for my face. As I walk and get warmer, I'll actually get hot and flip the hood down and unzip my coat. I felt so invigorated yesterday after my walk in the snow.
And finally I am down 1.1 pound.
-
TampaBayBucsGirl - I haven't had any night sweats or hot flashes after about a month on Arimidex.
-
Ruth - Nice Pic!!! A great class *is* definitely Happy Hour!! Awesome!!!
