Happy New Year friends. Took awhile to catch up on a few days posts - you all stay busy, very nice. Cloudy and rainy here today so pulled up a Leslie Sansone walking tape and did 3 miles with her. Boy, am I out of shape but glad to keep my new year's resolution, at least for one day, to exercise and drink more water, every day. Heidihill, love the pics of you hiking in the snow. Wish I had that courage. I remember when in NJ I couldn't even go walk in the cold even with something over my mouth and nose. I think my tears and eyelids froze and stuck together and that was at maybe 25 degree temps. Can't even imaging doing anything except sleeping in in ruthbru's weather. Brrrrrrr!

Anyone with a fitbit who wants to join our BCo Fitbit group, PM me your email so I can send you an invite.

Another resolution to keep is to monitor my diabetes habits, eating and exercise. I'm still very good with numbers but want to keep it that way. My sisters are taking me to dinner for my birthday (69 today) so this will be my first test. I do have incentive as the friend (only 4 months older than me) who got me down here to FL suffered kidney failure 2 years ago, just before she moved down. Been awaiting a kidney transplant but has been taken off the transplant list because her health has gotten so bad, heart issues, diverticulitis, poor liver function, constant infections, falling. I'm really afraid for her. We have the same diabetes doctor and though he does not discuss her condition with me we both know I have to keep up with my health and exercise. So far he is very pleased with my routine so I intend to get back to where I was say a year ago.

    Later sculpted friends.

Happy New Year everyone! So glad to see so much activity on here. It means everyone is staying active and doing good for ourselves. I had a lovely New Year's Eve. I went to yoga in the afternoon. Came home and took a hot shower and DH and I went to see Star Wars at the 5 o'clock showing, then went to dinner afterward. Both were semi-uncrowded either due to the bitter cold or reversal of the typical schedule of dinner then movie. Came home and watched the last episode of The White Queen, then I got my New Year's kiss. I'm terribly superstitious about getting my kiss at midnight, even though its probably the only time of the year I stay up that late!

Pat, your resolutions align with mine. I am my number one priority now, which means exercise, healthy eating, more music, more nature, more lunches with friends, and trying not to let toxic people or environments affect me.

Badger, thanks for sharing the Pentatonix. DH and I love "Hallelujah". Thinking about making your soup but I don't have any kale and not sure I want to go out today, but maybe.

Ruth, that's hilarious. I especially like the last one.

Wonderland, I love your tree! What a good idea. My tree and most of my decorations are "winter themed" - white, silver and gold snowflakes, white animals, snowmen...so I feel I am allowed to leave it up longer - wink, wink.

I enjoyed everyone's photos, whether there is beautiful snow in the background or Bougainvillea. I would have to live in two places to have my favorite environment - a Caribbean island and maybe Utah or Colorado for a few weeks of snowy winter. When I win the lotto...

    Happy New Year!

When you win the lotto,TwoHobbies, send for your friends (ie us). I, for one, would be happy to keep you company on that Caribbean Island!

Yesterday I did a 50 minutes indoor walking DVD & today I did 45 minutes on the treadmill and a 30 pilates DVD. I really truly am NOT going outside today. Tomorrow it will be back to the normal routine, weather or not!

Ruth, thanks for the chuckle. I can so relate living 40 miles from the Canadian border. When I went to visit DD in Oregon at Thanksgiving, it was too hot! Two hobbies, I bought 10 Powerball tickets yesterday. Will let you know if I win! Patoo, congrats on making it to 69! My mom has had diabetes since the age of 60, now 81 with no major complications. Thank goodness. Her only issue is the weight gain from going on insulin, after my sister passed away. I think the shock affected her health, but that was after 12 years of taking pills. My sister’s oncologist told her that diabetes is harder to mange than cancer and I think that is true, in some ways. Oh, I skied 2 miles yesterday!

Thanks all. Peregrinelady I was only diagnosed in 2014 and manage it with meds, no insulin. My weight gain is due to arimidex so getting back to controlling that as well.

ruthbru, cutting up IS acting my age. I've earned it.

    Happy Birthday, Patoo! I can't believe you're 69.

Ruth, I had to laugh at the Miami one. I was born & raised there. We would most certainly die if it was that cold.

    Nice eye candy! Haha!

Happy New Year's all.  Just returned from a Happy New Year Yoga flow class...20 folks showed up despite (cold for us in Southern VA) degrees in the low 20's...75 minutes of good exercise!

Now home to make the chicken wings, spicy beef dip and black eyed peas and stewed tomatoes as we get ready to watch some football!

Looking forward to 2018 with exercise and weight control and ...hopefully... no required surgeries.  I may opt for a revision on my September exchange surgery...but it will be my call and my ability to postpone.

    Best to all, TT

I can't keep up with all of you, but I am having the same thoughts about resuming things that bring you joy. Our big party reminded me of how many people I know who bring me joy, and I do not take the time to intentionally grow those relationships. Also, before kids music and movement were some of the most important things in my life. Now I get embarrassed that I can't keep up, or I am afraid to do certain activities b/c I am afraid I will get hurt. So my exercise is going to be focused on moving to feel joy!

Have a happy new year everyone!

Happy Happy Birthday Patoo you know how much I love you, enjoy your evening out. Ruth that is funny and probably lots of truth, you North Dakotans are a very hardy bunch. Scared that eye candy is advertising Zumba Strong which is being launched at a lot of gyms out here. Pat I love your resolutions. 2FUN you shouldn't worry as long as you're enjoying yourself.

Took down all my decorations today boo hoo and the only exercise I have done is walk the dog, I have spent the day enjoying my secret obsession - watching the Discovery Investigation channel all day long

Thanks all for the birthday wishes. TampaBB, I also cannot believe '69'; don't feel a day over 68! Snickersmom, we went to Harry's in Ocala and again said we are glad it's not close as the food is wonderful.

It's only 37 degrees out this morning but am going to try and bundle up and take a walk outside. If that doesn't work will come home and pop in a DVD. Pickleball this afternoon (hopefully).

    Later sculpted friends.

Patoo - you are putting me to shame!! I'm sitting on my nice warm lanai, watching the flooring guys take up the carpeting and vinyl. We are having it all replaced with deluxe vinyl planking, which is just like laminate but it's waterproof. We chose a light color and sure hope we are going to like it! I have all of my orchids on the lanai plus all of the small furniture from the house, boxes, sewing stuff, etc. so no room for exercise today inside! And I'm not taking a walk today - it's just too darned cold and windy for me. I will be walking my neighbor's dog every couple of hours so I will get in a few steps here and there!

We love Harry's! Haven't been there for a while. Have you been to the Ivy House? That's another favorite in Ocala.

    Stay warm

    Happy Birthday Patoo!

My youngest son left for home yesterday, boy it is sure quiet around here. -1 here this morning, and a winter storm on the way for Thursday. Sure doesn't make you want to be outside for anything. Did classical stretch both days of the new year so far. Glad to be getting back into that after the holiday, makes me feel so good.

My fitbit has an option that you can set to have it remind you to move if you haven't done 250 steps in an hour. I just realized today that it can also remind me to drink water. I have no problem drinking lots of water in the warmer weather, but this deep freeze has me craving tea instead of water. The house is terribly dry (we heat with wood) and our humidifier just isn't cutting it this winter. So when my fitbit alerts me I've been sedentary too long, I'm going to walk around the house a bit and then have me a glass of water.

Yes I have seen the manning documentary, and quite enjoyed learning about their lives. I remember the last TV show I watched with my Mom before she passed (in 2007) was a show about Peyton, Brady, and Farve - she loved Tom Brady, and even though she spent the majority of her life in New York, we weren't much of a football family while I was growing up - after she moved to Rhode Island in 1998, she became a Patriots fan!

Back to the routine with my lunchtime 75 minute yoga class...two days of this new year and two classes in the bank!  My studio is a yoga/pilates/barre studio and they just announced the new schedule, so happy as I will most weeks be able to get in 4 formal classes -- that is enough for me and then add walking, plus housework, and teaching my classes at school.

I need to set that fitbit alarm...during the 10 hours from 8 to 6 I am obsessed with getting my 250 step dots and when I get involved with work(!) and forget to get up until 2 minutes pass the hour I am so disappointed...will search for the alarm now.

Happy Birthday P and Happy New Year to all.  TT

Decided to walk/ran outside today and so glad I did! It's 31 degrees but sunny and no wind. Felt great and I even sweated.

Love reading what everyone is doing. Very motivating!

Snickers, the walk was actually nice, no wind really. Actually had to unzip my jacket. Never did get around to going for pickleball. It was windy this afternoon and cold, though the workout would have heated me up but just wasn't feeling it. Will try get to it tomorrow. Will have to check out Ivy House sometime. Thanks.

Trying catch up on computer stuff so only did that and made a soup with some of the leftover turkey. Yum.

DawnP64, added you to our Fitbit group. You just have to accept the email invite. ruthbru, you were not showing in the group so generated email to you also.

    Hi everyone,

I think that 2018 has really arrived. Today was a spot of work, signing my 2018 apartment lease, and an oil change which is turning into a clutch replacement. O, the woes of owning a fun ride. Fortunately, I have the cash, although I can think of other, more fun ways of disposing of it.

Patoo.....a happy, happy birthday, which I am assuming you celebrate for at least one month. I just did a brisk walk, and kept warm even though I was slightly underdressed for the occasion. Last year, I actually got overheated on one ski and had to lie down in the snow to cool off!!!! (Warm day, strenuous uphill climb.)

I am happy to have leftovers for dinner. Nice to have a delish sauerbraten waiting for you on a slightly chilly and raw evening. My tree will come down later this week.

So glad I was able to get in those two amazing days of skiing (though I can identify all major muscle groups at the moment)!!! - Claire

Patoo, I didn't get either of your fitbit emails. I will PM you my email address again in case you are using an old one????

I went to Zumba this morning. A friend wanted to check out the class that comes after it, so I stayed & tried it out with her. It was a 'Bone Building' class and was more for the 'senior' set (which, technically, I suppose I am in!)....but you could choose your own weigh of the balls, bands & weights, so you can make it harder. It wouldn't be enough for me in itself, but would be okay to add every once and awhile. I went to basketball games tonight and have been getting organized for hosting the Walking Women for brunch (after our walk) tomorrow.

    Thanks claire.

ruthbru, Yep, had different address. Resent the invite. Now want to see if I can find a way to add a challenge for the group. The Bone Builder class, did you try it? The ones they do here are intense though you don't get an aerobic workout.

    Patoo - I hope you had a wonderful b-day!!!

Yesterday - did stationary bike for 75 minutes! (I planned on doing a class at the gym - but it was cancelled at the last minute!)

Today - went to U-Jam & it went for 1 hour and 15 minutes!! Some of the songs were kind-of blah - and I'm not too fond of the walking around - posing stuff. But, the songs and choreography- towards the end of class were much more fun and high energy!!!

Here's to hoping 2018 - is a better year for all of us!!
