Hi sisters.
I didn't get a chance to read thru all of the posts. I had a long day in Atlanta yesterday (meeting). I flew down on a 6am flt and because of huge rain storms, I did not land here until after midnight!! Long day. Got my hair trimmed this morning and I am working today for someone. Needless to say, I am tired!!
Ladies..I need your prayers again. A very dear friend here at work...Tonya...just one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet...anyhow, her mother has battled breast cancer two times!! The last time was 8 yrs ago. Well, she just found out, it is now in her bones and they believe her lungs!! Tonya was in tears today...we both were..we hugged and cried! DAMN BOOTFACE....I HATE YOU SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!! WHY, WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO BEAUTIFUL INNOCENT PEOPLE!! I AM SO ANGRY AND SAD ABOUT THIS!! This dear lady is only 64 yrs young...and her and Tonya are so close. I know her outlook does not look good, and if they tell her to do chemo, she does not want to do that again. Please sisters keep Tonya and her mom on your prayer list!!
Thanks!! So sad...........
xoxo

AE - we will have between 23&35 people, if you make it to Lakeland or near here next year you will have to come, we do throw good parties if I say so myself. I really don't know what I am going to be except maybe just to say -'TRASHY" (but not to bad) I collect hats for my granddaughter and I to play with all kinds big floppy ones, pill box, you name it I got it -I found this new one big brim with leopard print feathers and bow - and I found this pair of real high heeled leopard print shoes - have a sexy black dress and matching gloves - my last chance to show off the girls -LOL. I just love to dance and give me a glass of wine or two and like I said before no stopping me. I put the young ones (20ish) to bed. Now that my daughter has matured to a whopping 28 - she can appreciate her mom having fun -I no longer embarras her (HA) she brings her friends to watch. I tell Alexcis (granddaughter) if your hairs not a mess -your not having fun!
I wish you all could be here
-
You are a woman after my own heart, Cathi! I wish we could all be there too!
My mom is doing okay, AE. She still breaks down and cries every day.......I usually tear up with her. I hate seeing her so sad. My mom is my very best friend. I'm so glad I can be here for her. Happy Anniversary to you and UB. I'd LOVE to see an old photo of the two of you. I'll bet you were so cute back then!!!
Lisa, I'll say prayers for Tonya and her mom tonight. God, I hate this stupid disease!
Hugs to everyone,
Karen

Welcome Shari! Hope you stay awhile!
Shirlann, my son bumped his lip on a playground and had a hole there for a while too years ago. The doctors said they don't sew them up so that the germs in the mouth won't infect it... That was about 20 years ago! I still get a little creeped out thinking about it... LOL!
Karen, I'm thinking of you and your mom.
Cathi, I hope you have a blast at your party. I was where you are a year ago... and I remember all those feelings... I went away for a weekend with my husband and we said 'goodbye' to the breasts that served me well for all my life. As scared as I felt, I also realized that I was strong and brave and doing absolutely the best thing I could for myself by letting my breasts go. Sometimes I cry and sometimes I laugh... I tell my family and friends that my old boobies are on vacation somewhere without me, but that's OK because they were trying to kill me anyway...
Judie, and Ulla, and Fumi--and anyone else I didn't mention---I'm thinking of you all.
Prayers for Tonya too!
Hugs to you all!!!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I REALLY appreciate it! (If I hadn't capitalized "really" you wouldn't believe me, right?!)... I'm 43 soon to be 44. My Oncotype came in at 18, and I decided not to do chemo after the lumpectomy. I just found out a few days ago that I got in to a clinical trial for Mammosite (otherwise, I was too young to get it...) and DID get "randomized" into the Mammosite versus whole-breast radiation. I'll have my surgery to get the balloon in soon (will hear today I hope) and get this part over with and be on Tamoxifen... This BOOTFACE (yay for this excellent term!!!!!!) is more of a personal struggle for me than anything else. I try not to get too introspective; it makes me too sad. I had just been offered a new job -- first interview before bx, second after dx. Almost no one at work knows. No chemo will make it less obvious, and the week or so for the Mammosite will be less intrusive than 35 days of external beam. I've made my decisions and am not looking back. More later. Hugs to you all, and those you know who are struggling.

Shari, I had my first lumpectomy for ADH (pre-cancer) at age 44 and my surgeon suggested I consider Tamox because of my strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer. I had my 2nd lumpectomy for ADH (other boob) at age 45 one month before turning 46 and my doctor said tamox was no longer optional and I started tamox on my 46 birthday. You might want to start the tamox slowly (half dose for a month or two) so your body doesn't totally rebel against the medicine, if your onc agrees. I didn't and had severe hot flashes and terrible mood swings. Of course when I tried taking birth control pills about 11 yrs ago, I was the wicked witch of the west (according to my husband and son), so any hormonal medicines really don't agree with me. I opted for the bilat after my DCIS dx 6 months after my 2nd lumpectomy and didn't need rads or chemo so I can't help you with the rads questions.
Lisa I too will say a prayer for your friend and her mom.
Cathi, I hope you do have fun at your party. I tell people I wanted these ticking time boobs off!

Thank you so much for this information, Sheila! I also had several excisional biopsies on both sides (since my late teens, all b9 tumors) and was FLABBERGASTED to find out that my BRCA1 and 2 were both NEGATIVE with a strong family history of breast cancer... I thought for sure I'd be positive and had the mindset of double mastectomy if anything else happened... now, not so sure, but still kinda sure... But that's not happy thinking, so I'm trying to just deal with tx for what I've got to prevent now... The wording of all this just SUCKS. I HAD breast cancer. For, um, a month from dx to lumpectomy. I don't have it now. I probably had it in me without my knowledge for some 4 years. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR at all of this.
-
My mom was dx with ILC in 2001, she had 15 or 17 nodes removed and 8 positive. She did the single mast, chemo and rads and is doing great. Her sister passed away from ovarian cancer at age 37 in 1978. My mom did the brca test after her surgery and was negative, I didn't do the tests but my and her surgeon told me that the multiple incidents of ADH in less than 2 yrs increased my chances for invasive (he said it was not a matter of IF but WHEN) and after the 2nd lump he suggested I consider bilat so I actually had 6 months to think it over. I was tired of the 6 month mammo, biopsies, lumpectomies that when I heard the mammo was abnormal for the 3rd time I was ready for these 'ticking time boobs' to come off. It was actually 6 weeks from biopsy to surgery by the time I had follow up appointment with my surgeon to tell him my decision, consultation with ps, and the two surgeons to arrange their schedule for the OR. My final path report didn't show any additional DCIS but more ADH in both sides.
My avitar is myself and my mom. It is the picture in the local breast cancer calendar for 2009. Just a reminder for those who wanted a calendar, I have a couple of them reserved for those who said they want one but I am running low on my supply.

Hi All,
Busy in the party prep mode, between this and work I have been so busy have not had a moment to think bad thoughts -YEAH.
But I must share with you a conversation I just had with my daughter that lives in NY (she is 26) I am just cracking up - this is why we LOVE our children unconditionaly. She was asking how my cold was if my lungs were cleared up yet - bla-bla-bla told her that on Wednesday BS has ordered blood work and chest X-ray before surgery Friday, she just calmly says "you know last night I was thinking (that can be hard for her at times -LOL) I haven't been to a funeral in a long time -noone in our family has died in awhile" I just started cracking up - Well Amanda lets keep it that way and thanks for the good vibrations - Then her lightbulb went off and she got it.
I love my girls!!!!!!
HAVE A GREAT - GREAT DAY AND WEEKEND - "ROCK ON!'
-
Sometimes you have to love your kids to keep from choking them. My son asked me Saturday while he was waiting on his flight from Chicago to Buffalo that he wanted me to send him the winter coat he purchased when he was home for Christmas 06. I told him I would but I needed his address he said I will get it to you. Tuesday he asked me if I sent the coat yet, he was going to need it in a couple of weeks. I told him you haven't given me your address yet and I don't think UPS can deliver it to your phone. He sent me his address in a txt message and the coat should be delivered Monday.

You are very right about the children Shelia - I am still laughing about what she said - but she put this great thing on her My Space abouut me being her hero - so I guess I'll stop teasing her about it now.
XOXOXOXOXOXO

My son wanted to be here when I had my surgery, but the DOD didn't consider my bilat surgery reason for emergency leave. He did manage bereavement leave the following week after my father-in-law passed away from liver cancer. He cried the first time he saw me and kept appologizing to me for him not being there the day of surgery. He also says that I am his hero, and also said he bragged to his ship mates that my mom had a 'boob job and had big boobs!' Almost in the vein of put downs - 'your mom wears combat boots'. Even though my recon did not make me 'much' bigger than I was before, I am just not lopsided anymore.
