Congrats on the house, Jane!  How exciting for you!  It makes me wish my new one was already built.  I'll just live vicariously through you for now.

AE, I'm glad that UB is done with his tx and that he's resting.  I'm doing the b9b9b9b9b9 chant along with Mel for you!  Hugs to the both of you!

Your view is gorgeous, Judie.  Wasn't today great?  My poor little fuschia and geranium starts are looking very wilted from the frost though.  I think I'm going to have to bring them inside at night until things start to warm up more.

Hope you had a successful shoe shopping trip, Sue.  Yipee! Your daffy's are up!  I love spring flowers.  They just make everything so colorful and pretty.  I had Subway for lunch today and thought of you!!  They're having a special deal for a limited time and every foot long sub is only $5.  I'm LOVING it!!

Love to all--Mel, Lisa, Sheila, Shirlann, Nancy, Jule, Ulla, Valsul, and Lucy.  I know I'm missing people.  I'm so tired tonight.

    Hugs,

    Karen

Ulla, I loved that video! Thank you so much for posting that link. I laughed so hard - so funny, so cute! I especially liked the dear little tabby kitten at the end - gorgeous. We have a show called "Funniest Home Videos" here and mostly it's not funny (kids falling off bikes, brides falling into their wedding cakes, catching on fire, falling into the water) but, in my opinion, the animal parts are nearly always cute and funny because they are so natural. I sometimes get the feeling that the human ones are set up.

    Hugs,

    Jane xxx

Jane, congrats on your house, hopefully you can move in soon .

Sue, I am glad that you are feeling better and your energy level is up. Remember the light at the end of the tunnel is not an oncoming train! One job I worked at I was constantly walking and it seemed that I went through shoes like crazy too. Hope you were able to find a good pair of shoes.

AE, I am also chanting b9b9b9b9b9b9 and glad that UB got through the treatment yesterday.

Ulla, I am glad to see you back, I will have to go to my sister's house this weekend to see the video, it is blocked by the internet guru here at work Frown. I am surprised that this site isn't blocked, they block other chat rooms and such.

I need to get to work, Hope everyone has a good day. I will check in later.

    Hi all!

Just checking in as I start my work day. I'm feeling back to normal again, except for the hair loss. It's coming out very regularly now, and tomorrow I will go get my wig.

Busy Friday with a lunch date with a friend. We're going to one of the local Indian restaurants for our Tikka Masala fix.

My daughter and my niece are involved with their high school musical production this weekend. They're doing "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" which I find very strange since most of the students who are involved in this are female...and there are almost no female parts. I think it must have been a personal favorite of the director, and they decided to produce it come hell or high water. My niece is playing one of the brothers, and my daughter is doing make-up.

AE, I'm also doing the B9 chant for you.

Jane, I'm jealous, too, of your new home.  I've never owned my own place, and it's always been one of my dreams. Maybe some day. I pretty much have carte blanche when it comes to decorating my father's home, but certainly not the renovating or major maintenance it needs. So it's patch here, patch there. Our kitchen got redone about six years ago only because my father flooded it and the insurance paid for the major part of it. Before that happened, he wouldn't hear of spending the money to have it done. Now it's the same with replacing the twenty-five year old siding that's got holes and pieces missing.

If I don't post this weekend, it's because I'm busy having FUN! Enjoy!

Hello everyone!, UB here- As Joan Rivers would say, "Can we talk?" For the benefit of Sue who may not know who Joan Rivers is, she is this "has been" stand up comic who now hawks her lame jewelry on QVC and she always used to begin her monologues with that line, but enough of her... it is 11:30am and I just got up feeling like I went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. I had to call my oncologist and cancel my NastyLasta shot because I'm feeling so lousy. We had a bit of a row yesterday( a little British slang for Sue) over the shot and he insisted that I get it. My dr. by the way is British and doesn't have anywhere the sense of humor that Sue has...conservative, stern and stoic, no sense of humor...his last name is Richards and I think he got po'd once when I said he should have named his son Keith.

Anyway, enough about me. I hope everyone is doing well and I want to thank everyone for your kind remarks and prayers for Valerie and me. Valerie has got me hooked on this sight, so if you don't mind a lymphoma patient infiltrating your sight now and then, you will be hearing more from me. Feel better everyone and have a great weekend.

Can I tell you a secret, UB?  I've actually purchased some of Joan River's "lame" jewelry from QVC.  I bought some really pretty chandelier earrings and a necklace.  I also love her hand and foot creams.  You don't think any less of me now, do you?  I'll tell you what--she makes a fortune off that stuff.  Most of it isn't worth wasting money on though.

You are welcome here ANY time!  As Sheila said, it really does add to the uniqueness of our little group.  We love our Aunty Em and we love you too!  Sorry about the NastyLasta side effects.  I had an allergic reaction to that horrible stuff so my onc took me off of it and I had to inject myself with smaller doses of the Neupogen.  Hang in there!  Big hugs to both you and AE.

Lisa, I'll post a pic of Portia later today.  Right now we're off to the lab to have her blood drawn (she's not thrilled).  Her doc put her on iron supplements and he wants to check her levels.

    Take care everyone!

    Hugs,

    Karen

sue I was a brownie when I was 7, then we moved to a more rural area and I did not get back in the girl scouts, but I got involved in 4-H. My son was involved for 4 yrs in the Cub scouts. I looked at the crocus walk, that sounds like fun. We do the race for the cure for the Foothills region and I get people to sponsor me in the walks but to do it with your friends sounds like fun. I may try something like that to help raise funds for the race this October, get people to sign up and walk with me at the local walking park one afternoon before the Race.

UB you did not insult anyone, I also think that she is a has-been and don't like any of her jewlery. I basically wear my wedding rings, another ring my dh gave me, a watch and a necklace. I had problems with cheap earrings so I quit wearing them and my piercings have practally closed.

    everyone have a great weekend.

Howdy UB! So glad you have joined us. I know the nastylasta shot sucks , but it saved me from having to postpone my tx. I love what you said to the onc about naming his son Keith!lol

Some people are just to serious. And I loved Joan Rivers in her hay day. She was sooo funny. I like to still watch her when she does the red carpet coverage at the awards show.

AE , have you heard anything yet?  I hope you hear from them soon. b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9b9

Whats for dinner AE? I just stopped at Wally World , and picked up a humongous pizza! It just came out of the oven.Come on over and have some! It smells soooo good.xxxx

Hi SueSmile! Glad you got you're shoes. Hope they last you miles and miles. So you are writing someone up huh? Tell them to get off their lazy rump and get so work done!

Some people just don't care. Get on them girl! I hope you are feeling better tonight. Get some rest. Don't apologize for not being here either. I mean we miss you like mad when you're not here , but we're glad you are getting some rest and taking care of you. Hows David and Daniel doing? Hope they are doing well and having fun. Take care sweet Sue.xxxx

OK , I have to tell you all my latest fun with Lilly. For those of you who don't know , Lilly is my Kitty. She is 9 mos. old and full of it. I have bought her toys , but she keeps losing them. I moved furniture and only found one or two toys. I think she is losing them under my hutch in the dining room , and I can't move that. Anyway , she is getting bored and This morning I woke to see , for the second time , my new roll of paper towel chewed , shredded , although she has no nails , all over the kitchen! So , tonight  , when I was at Wally World , I bought Lil toys , and a little jungle gym , a laser lite , and a remote controled mouse! She is having sooo much fun. I will take pics and post them. I hope this keeps her from destroying things in the house. I really thought once she had no nails , she wouldn't destroy things. But she actually chews things up like a dog! Oh well , I love my little Lilly Put!

    Love to you all , Jane , Shirlann , Mommy Mia , Lisa , Karen , Karyll , Nancy , Valsul , Sheila , Ulla , Wren , Judie , Jule , and anyone I have forgot , xxxx

Eeeeewwww!  That picture of Keith Richards is so gross!  I love the purple rose though--beautiful!!  Can I come over for pizza, Mel?  That sounds so good.  My back is killing me tonight.  Did any of you have achy muscles from rads?  It's only the side they're zapping that aches.  I really don't feel like slaving over the stove tonight.

Don't worry, UB.  You didn't insult me.  I laughed when I read what you wrote about Joan's jewelry.  My husband says the same thing.  I don't think he knows I own a couple of her pieces--lol!!!!  She still cracks me up.  Especially when she makes fun of herself and all the plastic surgery she's had.  "I can't feel my face!!" LOL!!!!

I just finished watching Oprah.  Did any of you catch her show today?  She was talking about puppy mills.  I feel sick after watching it.  Very sad!

    Hugs to everyone!!

Hi Karen! Of course you can come over for pizza. We'll have to get the magic elevator going again and pick everyone up and come to my house for pizza and laughs! I'm sorry , I can't help with the rads question , I didn't have rads. I'm sorry you are having pain from it. Tell hubby to go out and get a pizza , its Friday , you shouldn't be cooking. Its the law. Fridays are definitely take out , or heat and eat nights! Isn't Joan funny!? I love when she talks about her face lifts. I use to watch her when she would guest host for Johnny Carson. She was a riot. Loved her!

    No , I didn't see Oprah , glad I didn't , that upsets me soooo much.

Hope you are feeling better Karen.xxxx

I think Joan Rivers once said that her real eyebrows were up somewhere above her hairline because she has had so many face lifts! So funny! I love people who send themselves up.

Great to hear from you UB! I am so pleased that you are posting here as well - wonderful to have you! I'm sorry to hear that you are having a rough time with the 'nasty' shots. Hope you feel a bit better soon.

AE - I am joining the b9b9b9b9b9b9b chant. Hope you hear soon!

Nancy, hope you find a great wig and that you had a fun time with your g/f at the Indian restaurant. I love Indian food - or anything spicy! The play sounds like fun - I have heard of all female casts playing male parts before. Recently we had an all-male ballet here - they did Swan Lake - all dressed in white tutus! It was very popular!

Karen - it must be so exciting to build your home - you could make it just how you wanted it! I would love to do that one day. I read longingly about alternative houses made from hay bales and mud, underground ones, tree houses...but it would be fun to build a conventional one too.

Sue - I miss you but am so glad to know that you are getting more rest - that's so important. I'm so glad that Zippy is feeling better and living up to his name. Interesting about making contact with your old Brownie leader. I wasn't a Brownie as a child - we mostly lived in isolated country areas so I had to amuse myself. My boys were all in youth clubs for a while and enjoyed going hiking and camping and some community work.

Can somebody please tell how long the summer vacations are for schools and universities in the US? My son has been asked to do the photography for two weddings in August and September in California and Montana and he wants to know if that will be holiday time or not. Am I right in thinking the vacation is for 3 months? I remember my kids started school in England in early September...

    Love to everybody,

Hi Jane. Well , from what I remember when my son was in school , and I haven't heard that it has changed , school is out for summer vacation around June 9th. And resumes around Aug. 29th. Colleges go back a little later. Usually after labor day. Hope that helps.xxxx

Hey Mel, thanks for giving me hope. Got any faith or charity? I am doing better. Thanks for asking.

Nancy, I adore Indian food...I hope you enjoyed that tikka masala! Oh, and the visit with your friend, too.

Jane, the usual vacation is three months, ending in late August or early September, so whether the weddings will be during that time depends on which school. It's not standard, unfortunately.

About my view and the building of a new house...they are connected for me. I am living with my son and his wife and baby, in their dream house. It's been under construction for a year and a half. We are living in the lower level. The upper level is almost finished, but empty except for the kitchen, which we are able to use. It is a gorgeous home, high-tech, has a spectacular view, and the process of building it has been a nightmare. Trust me ladies...find an already built home of your dreams. By the time you have built one, you will be too stressed to enjoy it. Every flaw (there will be many) will scream at you every day.

AE, my heart and voice also chant the B9 totem. I'm anxious to hear the results.

Sue, as always my heart is with you. Your path has been a hard one. Your angst has been expressed so well that you have dragged a bunch of women to the yellow brick road and on to the Emerald City with you, laughing all the way (when they weren't screaming, of course. Wink

How's the cruise going Shirlann? We need reports.

Sigh...once again the drive to write succumbs to fatigue. One of these days I'll get all the way through. Thinking of each of you with love and sending strength.

Hi Judie! Good to hear from you. The house sounds wonderful. I'm sure it will be great when its finish, and you can relax. Is spring there yet? It keeps trying here (ohio) but keeps getting knocked back by cold temps.. Hows you're grandson doing? Hope he is bringing you sunshine and laughter daily. I don't think I will ever be a grandma. My son and his girlfriend say they don't want to have kids. Its kinda weird , wonder if I was a bad mom , or if the divorce was to much for him... OK , I take that back , I know I wasn't a bad mom , but I wonder why he feels that way...Hugs to you , and everyone.xxxx

Boy, quiet day.  Where is everyone?  My back hurts again, so I'm sitting on my big ol' rump!

Question for those of you who did rads.  Were you ever told not to use body lotion?  I just found my rads paperwork and saw that you're not supposed to use anything without asking the doc.  I've been applying Curel all over my body after my shower.  It didn't occur to me that it might be a no-no.  There isn't a sunscreen in it, so I can't imagine that it's hurting anything.  I'm a little paranoid now though.

    Hugs to everyone!

Jane, most schools follow the "start their year in August and finish up in May" or "start in September and finish in June" calendar. Every school district has their own calendar, but I would say everybody's back in school by the second week of September. Summer break is usually no more than ten weeks for elemenatry/secondary schools, but can be longer for college/university.

Ladies, I love my wig. As a friend and I walked into the store this afternoon, she immediately went to one on a stand on the counter and started raving about it. It turned out, it was the one I had picked out, and the saleswoman had taken it out to have ready for me. I got my falling mane buzzed off (not a tear shed), and the wig trimmed a bit, and then we went off for a late lunch/early dinner. The color is a bit darker than I have been wearing, but still auburn. But now I need to change my make-up a bit to stand up to the color.

Now, I'm just relaxing with my buzz cut. Strange, I never realized my head of hair had a nap to it, but it definitely does, like cordoroy or velvet.

Oh, and my natural color is a wild mix of white, gray, dark something, and a few remaining strands of my original auburn. That'll be interesting when it grows back in.

But it's good to see everyone moving forward and having a decent weekend. Life is good...Ok, pretty darn good.

I'm sorry, Karen. I wrote a long, insightful, fascinating, humorous message that would have made you feel so much better! Then I closed my email program to get it out of the way...or thought I did...the red x belonged to my browser...my wisdom lost forever...I removed myself from the computer before the temptation to crush it became too great.

That was four hours ago. I have now calmed down, but this post will not be the masterpiece the other one would have been.

I'm useless for rads questions, but don't think you have harmed anything...forget the paranoia.

I am wondering if the back pain is related to how they position you on the table. Just a thought.

Mel, as always, you are a ray of sunshine. Spring may be here, or may not. I can't tell with the nutty weather we are having. A run to the arboretum is in order. I love going there in early spring. It's a huge park with little rolling hills planted with every kind of fuschia and rhododendran imaginable. Some of the rhodies are huge. It's truly a fairyland. There's also a small Japanese tea garden. I wish I had some free time to go. Maybe next week I'll be able to drum up enough energy to take Connor if we have decent weather.

My son didn't want children, either. I was sad because he is so good with them. His main reason was that he didn't have the patience to deal with little ones all day every day. That was true. He was a wonderful uncle, but after a while with a kid it was easy for his irritablity/anger to be triggered. He finally matured, developed patience, and became a dad...in that order. Would that more people had that kind of insight. So don't give up yet, my dear.

I hope the quiet means that everyone is having too much weekend fun to even think about bootface!

    Judie

Oh, Hi Nancy! I was writing my post at the same time as you, but you got there first! I'm tickled about your wig. Are there pics in the offing? I'm a sucker for redheads of all shades. Three of my kids are auburn, another is a strawberry blonde. Then there's the odd one...light brown, not a hint of red. But I love her anyway. BTW, there's no red in my hair, either. Don't know why I became enchanted by it. Just weird, I guess.Laughing

Thank you for the advice, Ulla.  I've been showering in the evenings, so I used the lotion after my shower, and then put on the aloe.  My aloe is organic, with no purfumes or dyes.  My rads are at 10 am in the morning, so the lotion had a chance to wear off a bit.  I'm sure it's fine, but I'm going to stop using it anyway.  How are you doing these days, sweetie?  Are you feeling a little more energetic?  Big hugs to you!

Sorry that you lost your first post, Judie.  I'm sure it was an absolute masterpiece.  You made me feel better anyway, so don't worry about it.  Hasn't our weather been absolutely ridiculous?  That nice weather we had earlier this week was a real tease.  Now all I see in the weather forecast is cloudy and rainy.  Yuck!!!!  My poor little fuschia starts are croaking!

    Love and hugs to all,

    Karen
