Oooooh, I love ice cream cakes - esp Baskin-Robbins. Haven't had any since dx'd though. Not enough birthday parties in my family!

Medigal,
Don't know the answers and I do work with computers a lot. Mainframes, not PCs. The protocol is different. I do data analysis which means, "Tell me what you want to prove, and I'll prove it for you". I think there is speculation about the hacking on the other site. Only a specialist in internet communications could say, "You've been hacked". I bet they have some who are passing around info and blaming it on a hacker of some sort. Glad they've decided to stir in their pot instead of ours for a while.
BinVa,
We weren't hacked that we know of. The "other" site reported by Shookk I think (if it wasn't her, please someone, correct the mistake), thinks they have.
added: just ate a candy bar, good!!
-
Thanks Kadeeb .. I knew about the other site, but was confused about BCO. I just had a mini Milky Way with a cup of coffee chaser. Yummmm.

BinVa,
Medigal and I were just wondering out loud, how one would know they had been hacked. It sounds like they may have a big, bad troll who is posting things they thought were private.
BTW, over 200 pages on this thread and that doesn't count deletions.
-
Yay! A milestone .. Blue's thread is still going strong at 200 pages!!

Just had to chime in...
We just got back from a Chocolate Festival. mmm...the smell alone was enough to knock you over...
Chocolate apples (healthy, right?) a chocolate fountain, lollipops, truffles, bars, cake etc.
Norm Davis of cake fame was there. I think I am set for dessert for awhile...

Ok, I'm confused as heck. I can't figure out if there was any hacking at either site or if people just think there was or what the heck is going on. I saw the other site down for maintenance last night but then I checked later and it was back. I didn't see any suspiciously titled threads or anything indicating trouble.
I think I remember somebody on this site complaining that their PM had been hacked but I haven't heard anybody else complain of that.
As far as Facebook. I've had lots of invites and it seems so intriguing but every time I start to seriously think about it I hear of some sort of problem. I think I'm just too much of a "dinosaur." I'm lucky that my kids live fairly close by because if the grandkids were too far a distance I'd probably have to make that jump. If I could be sure I'd get it set up securely there are some friends that I could keep in closer contact with but I just don't feel confident that I could do it right. I go back and forth on giving it a try though.
The nail polish color mentioned a couple of pages back sounds very interesting - I think it was Sandy that mentioned it. I'll have to remember to look for OPI with barbeque in the name.
I had a cat and two small terrier/spaniel mix dogs. I put the kitten in a large cage in the middle of the livingroom and only let her out when I was right there for the first couple of weeks. After that they were all fine. One of the dogs (both dogs were neutered males) even groomed the cat on a regular basis, but not the excessive licking of one area that somebody else was speaking of. And all three animals would cuddle up and sleep together.
Turkey patties and tomato soup here tonight.
-
River-rat - the colour is "Mrs. O'Leary's Bar-B-Que" it is very dark red looks almost black and is very intriguing - women of all ages around here wearing it - my BF is 65 (as am I) and she wears it - as does her 32 year old daughter, my hairdresser in her 20s wears it as well - and seriously whenever I am at the mall someone always asks about my nailpolish - pretty funny most of the women asking are older - the shop I get it at at the mall is always out of stock and reordering - amazing - looks really good on short nails - also a pedicure favourite.
Dinner tonight is chicken carino (yellow and red peppers) with spaghetti aileo on the side, also asparagus and a brownie for desert (if that's o.k. with the sugar police).

River Rat: I saw the sign saying that site was down for maintenance but I thought it was a regular thing. I returned several hours later and it was up again. The big question is "How does someone know if they have been hacked into unless something is missing or they see someone posting their private info on another site?" Would love to get the answer to that.
Your turkey patties and tomato soup sound yummy! I love anything "I" don't have to cook. I hope they were frozen patties.
-
Sandy, Interesting colour. We're having home-made pizza.
As far as the hacking is concerned, I think some people are just a little confused.
-
I am preparing for St. Paddy's Day with teal green toe nailpolish. My fav OPI is Shoot Out at OK Coral--it's my summer color, LOL. Keep waiting for dh to comment on the green toes, guess at our ages he really doesn't notice! A cool one is "Wish IT" a frosted that changes colors in different lights. Looks red in the bottle, but goes on rosy orange gold, glitter?
We will have ham (canned) salad sandwiches and tomato soup tonight. The rest of the week has to be from the freezer---need to keep it up to date somehow.

Friends, I really needed the laughs from your funny posts today. lindasa, I thought at first you'd said that Blue was especially well-behaved at your house; and I wasn't believing that for a minute.
As for unfortunate dog names like "Dribbles", I had a very sweet dog in a previous life that had a nice, normal dog name. During private moments, I sometimes called her "Beans". It was just one of those sweet nicknames you make up sometimes that isn't meant to symbolize anything in particular. But, someone heard me call her "Beans" and assumed I'd named her that because she farted a lot.
I was closely following all the hot stuff that was going on here and elsewhere last week; and then I got a phone call from someone telling me my mom had been injured and was in grave condition. She died the next day. One day she was here, and the next day she was simply gone. I walk around her house and see a jacket tossed over a chair, and her purse hanging on the doorknob, and the small casserole she was planning to heat for her supper that night. There's the laundry she had pulled out of the dryer and piled on her bed, to be folded later in the day; the breakfast dishes still in the sink; the table stacked with papers she had gathered as she worked on her taxes. I keep thinking she will come walking down the hall any minute now, asking what we would like for supper.
We are having homemade chili for supper. It was delivered earlier today by one of my mom's neighbors, as friends and neighbors do at a time like this. There are 2 more heat-and-serve meals in the fridge.
This really, really sux. I've been impatient with my mom about some things these past few months, but when I got that phone call and later saw her lying in that hospital bed, it's as if I aged 25 years in one day. There are so many things we didn't have a chance to finish....
I am sorry for such a downer of a post. I'd much rather share more dog stories and recipes for brussel sprouts. But, you know, when something like this happens, all of a sudden the snarkiness and hacking and deletions seem so darn unnecessary.
Hugs to you all...

Oh dear Otter .. I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom sounds like a wonderful person. I know how bad it hurts to lose your parent. There is such a huge void in your life when it happens.
Sending you love and hugs,

Dear Otter:
I don't think there is a worse feeling in the world than losing your mother (mine died when I was 25 and I still cry 40 years later when I talk about her) - I lost my dh last year and it flattened me but there's something about a mother's death that is different - and the way your mom died you had no time to prepare - my deepest sympathies to you and your family.
Sandy

Oh, Otter, I am so very, very sorry. There is nothing like loosing one's mom. My heart hurts for you.
-
Otter, I am very sorry to hear your news (((((HUGS))))). My deepest sympathies.
-
Otter,
Holding you and your family in prayer. I am so sorry for your loss.
-
Sandy, thanks for the information. I am 58 and have short nails so it sounds like I should look into this.
Medigal, when my niece's sites were hacked there was just weird stuff written on the site. I didn't really get much info because her sites weren't anything I'd be checking and it sounded like she got it fixed up quickly. Ooh, I forgot that happened to my nephew once too! In his case I remember what happened because we teased him for quite awhile. Somebody hacked his page and put pictures of cute little bunnies all over the page. He was a teenager at the time and not inclined to see cute little bunnies as being very masculine so he wasn't happy.
When I saw "they" were down for maintenance I thought that maybe they really thought they were hacked and were checking and then when it was back up right away I figured that either they weren't hacked or it was very minor stuff. I didn't read there, because I've found reading there doesn't improve my mood, I just looked for a thread with a title that might tip me off.
Blue, I'm inclined to believe that there wasn't any hacking either - at either site. I'm still a little worried about Facebook though.
Does anybody know how long it's going to take me to go through the security settings (allowing time for somebody who doesn't learn new stuff very easily anymore) if I set up a Facebook account? I bookmarked some info about the settings and it looks pretty complicated but I'm hoping that it's easier than what I'm imagining. I have cousins in Tennessee and friends in various states that keep "inviting" me.
-
((((((Otter))))) I'm so sorry for your loss. You have such a way with words, my heart hurts for you right now. Take care my friend.
-
otter ... I am so sorry for your loss.
Sending you (((hugs))) and wishing I had more to offer in your time of grief.
-
Otter, I'm so sorry. It is so hard to lose someone you love and yet even harder when it is unexpected. But in either case I don't think that we ever feel "finished". There's always more you wish you could say. My heart goes out to you.
I was working on my post when you posted.
-
Otter,
My condolences to you. I'm sure that your mother knew that you loved her, and that's the most important thing.
-
otter, I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is horrible under any circumstance but to have it happen so suddenly and with no warning is heart-wrenching. Sending you ((((hugs)))) along with condolences to you and your family.
-
Oh Otter
I wish I could say something to make you feel better. It is so hard to lose a parent.
-
My condolences to you, sweet Otter. Huge hugs.

Otter: My deepest condolences to you on the passing of your mom. Unexpected passings are the hardest to cope with because you can't say "goodbye" the way you need to. May you have the strength to cope in the days and years to come. Your mom's sudden passing makes everything else pale in contrast. So sorry for your lost.
-
Otter,
I cry for you. No one is ever old enough to lose their mom. I still miss mine.
-
Dear Otter - Heartfelt condolences and warm hugs. I'm thinking about you.
-
Dear Otter-
I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. We're never too old to still need our moms.
The picture of the Otter mom and baby is precious.

I'm so very sorry Otter.
