In answer to a question above -- cats and terriers DO NOT mix!  Terriers treat cats as rodents to be hunted down.  My sister-in-law had a schauzer that terrorized my cat up the cottage for two summers.  How many times did we have to rescue him from a tree!  From then on, our succession of felines remained indoors!

But -- not sure about toy fox terriers; Blue's was exceptionally well behaved in our houseKiss.

Linda, he is very well behaved.  Both pooches get along well and Lilah looks and acts more like a cat than a dog.  I think she's got some cat genes in her.

Would it be mean to say that when my 20 year old cat died in the fall and then the 12+ year old fish died the other day I was relieved not to have any more pets? The other cat died at 18 a couple of years ago. They were all left by the children who long since moved on to their own lives.  I like people better.

You had a 12+ year old fish?  Amazing!  I have a guinea pig left over from kid days and she's still going strong at 7.  That's way past the usual guinea pig expiration date.

shokk ... if all that stuff is really going on it is probably not a good idea to be talking about it everywhere.  You could mess up any attempts to investigate.  Plus unfounded accusations are dangerous things.

And it would be a good idea to talk to Melissa anyway.  Maybe she and her tech team and/or law enforcement are looking at all of our accounts in an attempt to get to the bottom of the post reporting thing?  Personally I hope they are.

Hi Barbe ... happy to see you over here!

Dogs ... cat ... brussel sprouts ... what's for dinner?

Shokk, this "hacking" sounds pretty serious and I cannot believe any of our regulars would stoop to such actions especially getting into someone's PMs!  If we have someone like that on this thread I do hope you see if Melissa can find out who it is.  It has to be someone who is computer savy, imo, since I have no idea how they can go about doing this.  I will also be very careful of what I write in a PM if a hacker can do this.  I do hope you will let us know if they find out who the person is.  We really need to get this problem between our two threads resolved so someone will not feel the need to do such things like hacking.

There was a program on W5 last night about the grandparent scam. Where someone calls a senior saying they are the grandchild and they desperately need money for fines, etc. The amount usually quoted is $2800 which is then wired to one of those placed and picked up. Sometimes these seniors sent money twice. Why you ask am I interjecting this on this forum because the police have determined that the con men picked their victims and the corresponding information from Face Book. The one fact that stood out was that the con men knew enough about the grandchild to fool the grandparents.

I hope anyone watching that programme who has a F/B account will take another look at their security options.  People who post photos (with name captions), addresses and so on for all the world to see are sitting ducks for scammers.

I didn't see W5 last night, but it's good you brought it up here, Mary.  Thanks!

    Enjoyful,

I have spent the better part of the morning catching up on pages and pages of posts. I've been mad, glad, sad and generally pi$$ed off most of the morning but your last few posts about the dog made my day! I sat here LMAO. Thanks for making it all worth while.

That show is being re-shown right now - I dropped my Facebook account a number of months ago because people were getting information on me that they had no right to and I had all the security on it that was possible - Facebook just isn't safe - hey, probably no where is safe on the internet - you have to be very careful.

Hahaha kadeeb - glad you enjoyed the posts!  DOG is quiet at the moment, dreaming of butts to lick, no doubt.

Facebook is Satan.  I'm convinced of it.

Enjoyful - Could the dog be allergic to soil or grass - we had a dog who was and he spent his 14 years on prednisone which kept it under control - of course he ended up with Addison's disease from the prednisone but he lived 14 years and was a wonderful pet.  I am not sure the coon hound is going to ever be a good live-in companion they are hunting dogs and they need to hunt - any chance she can go to a doggy daycare and get some of that energy out of her? Oh yes, I forgot Kaiser was allergic to his dog food too and ended up on Lamb and Rice which is what I feed all dogs now - honestly as much as I love dogs they can sure make life interesting.

Sandy, I'm sure you're right -- nowhere is safe on the internet!  But it's sort of like the world around us -- counterfeit cash, forged cheques, stupid letters from Nigeria begging for money.  Probably the only way to protect oneself is to go live in a cave and forage for berries -- but then one might get shot by a hunter!

We have to live with what we feel we can live with -- if you know what I mean!  Every time I turn on my computer, I leave it open for a virus attack.  But I'm still going to use the computer, and will have to deal with the consequences, whatever they might be.

    Here's to everyone's internet safety!

At this point I am holding out. No facebook for me. I'm getting pressure from kids, grand kids and co workers but I'm holding out. Too much info out there and if banking sites, and federal sites  can be hacked to get info, I'm sure facebook isn't putting the kind of effort required to protect it's members if the feds and banks are having trouble.

My Jack Russell does very well with our cats.  He will chase the neighbor's cat that comes into our yard, but has never shown any desire to maul any.  It may have to do with socializing from a puppy.  I have had people tell me the same thing about Weimaraners not being a good mix with cats, but I have had four over the years and never had a problem.

Facebook is the only real means I have to stay in touch with two of my children, but I try to be cautious.  I don't use pet or children's names for passwords, and I don't participate in any of the games that seem to be loaded with viruses and malware.  I have never understood the people that participate in foursquare and the other programs that show them checking in at a particular location.  Seems it would be an open invitation for someone to go to their house and steal from them.  If you use FB, make sure you are using the https: for greater security.

    Sandy -

She does have allergies and takes daily prednisone for that and chronic bronchitis.  She's also had thyroid cancer and has to take daily thyrosin.  Poor puppy!  She's 9 so finally starting to calm down.  We're going to look for a hunting dog training program nearby so she feels useful.

    Medigal,

You are right about the knowledge that would be necessary to hack into the security of a board like this or any other. Why hack it in the first place? It makes it difficult to believe that one of the regular posters would do this or have the knowledge to do it. If they do, their time would be much better spent on employment in catching this type of individual. The one thing that hackers and those who strike on the boards have in common is that both groups do it because they can. It is a control and power trip for them. Sometimes the control can turn to profit if they can sell the information but that requires yet additional involvement by other unsavory elements. How were those who's information was hacked informed of the security breach? Was it by the site or do they just believe they've been hacked? I think most know not to post anything that might lead someone to their door. What was stolen or compromised? Sounds very fishey to me and I'm not talking about dinner now.

    Interesting article on "Cyber Rebels":

    ...and timely, considering today's discussion!

If the link doesn't work, just go to www.thestar.com and type "Cyber Rebels) in the search box.

Was BCO hacked ... is there something wrong with the PM function?  I'm confused.

kadeeb:  I wondered about the same thing.  How does one know if one's PMs etc. are hacked into unless you read private info on someone's post who should not know it.  It seems they read on here that someone posted they were hacked into and I can't find a post on bc stating that.  What I am curious about is why do we need two of these forums when basically we talk about the same stuff and why would some of "our" members feel a need to be on both??

One thing I can see is that their forum seems to have a lot more freedom to say what they want and their moderators don't seem to interfere.  I like it that they can have a political thread and talk about politics however they want.  I just could not express my political opinions in the manner they seem to so I stick with this group and just discuss politics sporatically.  My personality is not one that could fit in with people I read about in their group.  And yes, I do check it out periodically, as they well know.  Mainly to see what they are up to and if any of our members are involved.  I love to know who my friends are but I "need" to know who my enemies may be.

BTW, it seems they are incensed that their private information where they really seem to have freedom to discuss was read by an outsider.  I can see being angry about this because privacy should be privacy as long as their actions are not illegal, imo.   It's just a mess and "if" it happened, it took a real computer savy person to do it, and it should not have been done, imo.
