Well, dinner tonight will be an early bird special at our favorite local restaurant called O Bistro. (Not sure what O means).  Will update y'all after we get back. I am, however, seeing some kind of chocolate in the near future.

    edited for usual typos.

Ray took me to me Dr.'s appointment this morning.  We stopped at the Mandarin for lunch, so no dinner tonight because it was all you can eat.....and we ate!

    OOPS...this posted twice.

Athena .. I thought the article was scary.  Ms. Gabriel makes no distinction in her tirades against Muslims and Islam.  Not all Muslims are terrorists.  By and large, most are not.  She does a disservice to all who follow her.

She presents a portrait of Islam so thoroughly bent on destruction and domination that it is unrecognizable to those who study or practice the religion. She has found a receptive audience among Americans who are legitimately worried about the spread of terrorism.

But some of those who work in counterterrorism say that speakers like Ms. Gabriel are spreading distortion and fear, and are doing the country a disservice by failing to make distinctions between Muslims who are potentially dangerous and those who are not.

    Bren,

Lies always seem to spread like wildfires and the truth too often has a hell of a time breaking through. Maybe it's because lies are more glamorous. After all, you can make up all sorts of fiction. I also have little respect for people whose distortions come as a result of their apparent inability to put personal traumas into perspective. I would love it if someone sued that silly woman and made her try to stand by all the tripe she sells. She is a pretty version of that old crone who stood up at a McCain event and called Obama "a Arab" (sic.).

Shaking my head, sighing.  From Athena's link:

“She really opened up my eyes about Islam,” said Natalie Rix Cresson, a composer, clutching a signed copy of Ms. Gabriel’s book. “I didn’t realize it was so infiltrated in the schools, everywhere.”

The article made me think of my Aunt.  She and my uncle are christian missionaries in Mexico.  She is expected to cater to his every whim.  If he wants a drink she stops whatever she is doing and gets it for him.  Picking apples at our farm he would stand with his arms crossed pointing to the apple that he wanted her to pick.  She does not cut her hair.  She is only allowed to wear skirts.  Etc, etc...

My point is, that this is the face of christians that many Mexicans in outlaying areas see.  They believe that they must behave this way in order to enter heaven.  It is written in the Bible and so there understanding is that all christians adapt to this lifestyle.

Don't you think that maybe their point of view would be similar to that of those who paint all Muslims with the same brush as the terrorists? That certain passages in the Bible are just as offensive?

Certain passages in the Bible were translated to conform to what men of that generation in time wanted their women to obey. MY God doesn't work that way and I'm sure neither does any one else's who is reading here. Wink

JB, just open the bible you have lying near you and on almost any page you can see where women are treated into submission (or at least trained to be).

I am experiencing the type of page numbering oddities that go on when someone is deleted from the site.  So, I did some investigating.  Anyone see sammysmom (or whatever her newest name was)?

This is not unusual behaviour for her.  I would hope that either she regretted her attack on a particular thread the other day or else was deleted for being so hateful.  No wonder she has to use so many personnas.

Yep, I agree with Barbe, those of us who are pretty well versed in the Word, realize that this is not how women live today, at least not most of us, certain countries and cultures have different lifestyles of course. In the New Testament, Jesus respected women and chose to be among them: Mary, Martha, Mary Magdelene, etc. Jesus respected everyone and taught love not hatred. We women, are so blessed to be living in America. We rock and we rule, ha, ha, at least that is what my husband says!!! Have a good night, Peace, Kathy

I've bounced between the threads and I've gotta say that I haven't read a book with this many sub-plots in years.  I don't think I'm going to figure this one out though so I am going to just take everyone at face value and not trouble myself with whatever happened in the past.

Lamb chops, asparagus and sweet potatoes....YUM!

Brownies or pudding yet to come.

E - I'm BEGGING you...throw the cake in the garbage! lol If you MUST have something sweet, make yourself a fruit smoothie (toss in a big handful of raw spinach...you won't even taste it)!  Another good snack: hard boiled eggs...high in protein! Laughing

Enjoyful that casserole sounds good.  Did LauraGTO give out the proportions or do you just guess.  I make something similar that is black beans, corn, sweet red pepper strips and cheese.  The proportions change depending on my mood.

Seconding Laura's advice on the spinach. My club has some amazing spinach smoothies. All health, no pain. Perfect after an exercise class.

Oh shoot, I forgot that Laura would see mention of the cake.  I was kidding, Laura!  I meant to say a big cake of spinach, bean curd, and wheat sprouts!  With a frosting of nonfat plain yogurt!  YUM!

River Rat - it was a can of black beans, a can of corn, a boil-in bag of brown rice, and a bunch of cheese.  I cooked only the brown rice, mixed everything together with some turmeric, curry powder and black pepper and baked it until the cheese was melted.  GOOD STUFF.

    E - Good girl! Laughing

The great thing about that recipe, as posted, there's many possible variations. After it's cooked, I like to sprinkle chopped tomatoes and onions on top of it.

a bunch of cheese? Surprised  Cheese is evil too ... guess that's why you have to drink spinach smoothies ... to make up for it.

Do you put in tortillas and bake? I got one on www.allrecipes.com that is the same ingredients. It's really good.
