Well,
I just finished preping some sald stuff. I bought a big bag of mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, cauliflower, brocolli. Some dried cranberries and light feta (I can't give up cheese completely!)
I boiled some chicken breasts and some eggs to throw in the mix. Everything is ready to go for lunch through out the week.
I find if I prepare food in advance, I'm not standing around with the fridge and cupboards opened deciding what to eat. Thats when I make poor food choices

Sunris...4 lbs is AWESOME!
Ate too much yesterday...those cookies! Back on track today!!!
-
I'm back. Did not check in yesterday......had early PT appt and errands. I did really well yesterday, walked my mile (beautiful weather here in GA) and also ate really well....oatmeal for breakfast, Progresso zero points WW soup with a turkey roll-up for lunch and for dinner baked chicken, rice and salad. Today I will walk my mile and maybe next week up it some.
Lexislove, I'm with you....have to be prepared when the hunger monster comes calling. Going to the grocery store today and I WILL have a list to work off of!! Nothing but good and healty food for me today.
Have a good day and Happy Healthy Eating!!
Kathy

Hi, guys! I guess a Starbucks white chocolate mocha cappaccino with a shot of peppermint probably isnt a good diet choice for me today?
Oh well! eating healthy otherwise!
-
Cake, They make skinny Lattes' with skim milk and you can get fat free syrup, but the whipped cream is a no no. I am not going to weigh myself more than once a week....when I was doing chemo they did it for me which was good since I don't even have a scale anymore, but I can weigh at my Dad's if I don't have a dr's appt. I am having turkey meatloaf which I made this morning. boiled potatoes with just salt and pepper , no butter, and steamed broccoli. I used to dislike ground turkey just because of the way it looked so pale, but I make chili and meatloaf and all sorts of good things with it. I am doing WW core plan since I did well with it before. 4 lbs is great Sunris, it's better not to take it off to fast so it will stay off longer. If I can get through the first two weeks, I will be fine because then I will be in the habit of healthy eating.
-
Hey everyone, Not dieting till after chemo, but have been out walking when it is not snowing here. It finally got nice today. i here everyone about the gym. I just wish I had one to join, when yo live in the middle of nowhere. The only thing is to walk and enjoy nature. The bad thing is it is all uphill from my house. Go for the muscles. Have a great day Dianne
-
Ooh, JO, that sounds awesome! I'm going to try it! I'm always trying to get more beans in...I hear they're really good for you. And I've cut down on the red meat, so adding turkey is perfect! Thanks for posting!

I have lost 25 pounds since my diagnosis in May, and I plan to lose 10 more. I decided that this is one thing that I can do to prevent a recurrence, as opposed to all the things done to me. Losing weight has empowered me!
Here is how I did it. I considered joining a program, but I am busy and cheap, so tried to emulate what the programs do. I use the calorie count website to count calories--1200 per day. The website also helps me estimate the calories in food. I still guess a lot but now the guesses are educated. There are also goal-setting calculators, chat rooms, email support groups, recipes with calorie information, daily tips, and a place to log your weight on whatever schedule you want, and it charts it. There is nothing more inspiring than seeing that chart going down as the weight goes down.
I stopped desserts, red meat, and drinks other than water almost entirely (I don't refuse red meat if it is served at a dinner at someone's house, but I do refuse dessert. I usually tell the hostess in advance). I cut back on portions. I cut way back on bread, cheese, pasta, etc. Importantly, I do not deprive myself of anything I really want. I can have a glass of wine and dinner out, just order wisely and bring half of it home.
I weigh myself daily--first thing in AM, naked, and log it in. I don't obsess if I go up a pound, if I know I am eating the 1200 I know it will correct itself over the week. I have consistently lost 1.2 pounds per week. It is slow-going, but it took me 20 years to put all this weight on.
I try to exercise intensely 3 times a week. I walk a mile every day, to and from work. If you are stuck on a weight, ramp up the exercise intensity and recheck that you are counting the calories accurately, I tend to get lax and the portions go up.
Losing weight has given a role in my breast cancer recovery, something to focus on other than breast cancer, a feeling of empowerment, a better self-image, and a closet full of new clothes! All the money I saved by NOT joining a program could be spent on clothes.
I should add that I was lucky enough not to have chemotherapy. I started with the calorie count website and the intense exercise during radiotherapy, and experienced no radiotherapy fatigue. With chemo, I'm sure there would have been more bumps in the road. I'm on tamoxifen now.
-
kpkpkpk...
whats this calorie count website?
I do find it beneficial to record what I eat...but then i get sick and tired of it after a while and forget about it.
I drink water a lot, but I usually add the crystal lite to it. I miss Starbucks!!! Ill have to try a skinny latte next time.
Went to the gym yesterday, but i did more stretching than workout. My muscles are really stiff...im scared to jump right in and have something "pop". I hope by Monday I can be in a routine.Plan is at least 30 min of Eliptical machine and 30 min of weights 4x week....and of course walks.
-
The website is
Watch out for all the ads for unhealthy weight loss products! I guess that keeps the website free.
-
I there I am joining you ladies I have at least 40lbs to loose.Have started back to the gym and am keeping a food log.I will check out the website mentioned as well. Since I started treatment my body has stayed the same weight but now that I am breastless I can't stand my big belly. It looks like I am permanently pregnant. Will try to exercise daily either at the gym or walking the neighbourhood.Am cutting back on all white foods.Do not eat sugar or deserts of any kind.Drink alot of unsweetened green tea which I make the night before then refrigerate in the morning. My biggest weakness is potatoechips so I can not have them in the house. The only bad habit i havent stopped is light cream in my am coffee and a glass or two of red wine but not daily.
Must try to remember to drink more water.
-
Ya the water thing is a hard one. I mentioned before I have tried a variety of diets, LA Weight Loss, WW and Dr. Bernstein . ALL say 8-10 glasses a day for sucessful weight loss. I have gotten better, but ot enough.
-
Hi, all! Still struggling with portion size...very annoying! But I have lost 2 pounds this week so far (official weigh in Sat or Sun, but I'll take this now, LOL!)
kp...love everything you're doing! That's exactly what I've been trying to do, except I'm doing 1500 cals. I cant go down to 1200 yet (I can barely do 1500).
The water has been easy for me because I drink 2 cups in the morning with the Tamoxifen pill, 2 cups in the afternoon with the Citrical vitamin, and 2 cups at dinner-ish time with my multi-vitamin, so I get at least six, and that's cool with me.
-
Weigh in today is same as 2 weeks ago so I'm happy since I was sooooooooo bad this week eating everything 'bad' in sight. Didn't exercise either except this morning when I steam cleaned 4 rooms of carpet. But that 3 hours of work was offset by the napolitan I downed on the way home (my elderly friend made me take it!!!)
Only good thing I did this week was the water; I'm about ready to float.
-
So far so good with me ( I think)...lol.
Ive been doing very low carb. Maybe a Wasa cracker with some fat free cream cheese. I had a potein filled breakfast and roasted cauliflower and beans for lunch.
Dinner, spinach sald with chicken breast. Water through out the day.
Still keeping away from anything "white".
I find my most challenging time is after dinner, like around 8-11pm. After my daughter goes to bed, watching tv. I get hungry!!!! I find myself staring in the fridge...its hard. I grab a Jello lite, its something.
Im trying not to go over 1000 cal a day....smaller meals through out the day.
-
Napoleon pastry (sorry, said napolitan before)
sooooooo yummy and probably 1000 calories per bite. Super slim layers of pastry with some kind of creme then another few layers, more creme, another few layers, more creme then topped by pure sugar icing. I haven't had one in years.
Thanks for the 4 days off but I have to do penance for eating it. Got home from church (my BC support group was invited to a church in honor of BC month) and immediately threw a load of laundry into the dryer and one into the washer. Then put on my sneakers and just got back from a walk - 1-1/2 hours; 2.9 miles - YAY!!!
And, if you don't want to weigh, then don't. It's not required because our clothes will have the final say LOL.
-
That cake looks good................................................................real good!
1000 calories a bite huh? <sigh>
-
sometimes...it's worth the 1000 calories!
yummy!
-
Cake, you're supposed to talk me out of it. Oh, guess because of your name you really can't, huh? Well, at least I only had one slice to devour.
Going to read and relax now. Everyone enjoy the rest of your evening.
-
Eat a lot of whole grains and high fiber. I love those Arnolds Sandwich Thin rolls. Whole wheat, multi grain and whole grain white. I eat everything on those. I also read that the sugar in fruit is different then white sugar in baked goods. You can have just don't pig out on them. I snack on rice cakes, Fiber One bars, popcorn. Use Miracle whip instead of mayo. Just watch your portions. If you want to eat something fattening (and who doesn't) eat a small piece, but then skip your snack. Drink water and excercise. I either walk a mile every day or do about 15 minutes a day of cardio and weights.
-
Happy Monday!!!!!
Ok, Monday, the fresh start day. I did well this weekend, but I had a "moment" last night when I tried to put on a pair of jeans.
Yup, it wasnt pretty. I was so upset, but it motivated me to jump start my diet goals. I hate...hate the scale. I KNOW its a liar. I will go by how my clothes fit and im hopeing by the end of the year...those jeans I'll be wearing.
Decided to do at least 30 min of cardio 6X a week. At the beginning I said 3-4, but I think to get t those jeans I have to do more. I will mix it up with the eliptical machine if the weather is crappy, otherwise a good brisk walk. Weight training will be done in between.
It's 9 weeks till the new year....counting down
-
I hope it's not too late to join. I just finished chemo, and will start rads in about two weeks. I lost ten pounds during chemo, but I fear it is coming back. The sad part is that I have about another 60 to loose, so I ned to keep it going. I'm trying to increase my veg portion of each meal, cut out the potatoes, noodles.. at dinner. No deserts and not snacks after the kids are in bed. So far so good. I think I should cut out bread, but I can't seem to. I also need to start the exercise at least four times a week.
How do you ladies like the wii fit? We are thinking of getting one for christmas. Do you think you get a decent workout?
Heres to all you ladies!!! Lets start loosing!
-
welcome rinna!
As for the bread factor you can by bread made without flour. Its healthy version. Or, Weight Watchers bread. I only eat bread when Im having a sandwich. My husband eats it with everything!!!
I have about 50 lbs to loose, so im right where you are. I think 4x a week exercise is a great idea, just remember to do at least 30 min of cardio...walking,stationary bike, eliptical machine, running. Adding weights will also help out. Muscle actually helps to burn fat....so 5-10lb weights for your arms are great. I even hold my 10lbs for my lunges.....you can really feel the burn in your legs.
-
I also love bread and can eat it anywhere, anytime. I've gotten better since I'm cutting out as much soy as possible and I haven't found a bread made without soy yet.
What I've heard about cardio exercise is 3x/week to maintain; 5x/week to lose. Intersperse with weights which should be no more than every other day. Don't know about 4x/week!
The Wii Fit scares me. I guess because of my aging limbs. Fearful that I will mis-step or twist/turn something. Others have posted they enjoy it. Do you know anyone who has one that you can try out?
-
I agree with patoo...
Try out a Wii first if you can, ive heard some people love it..others hate it.
So 4x a week weights would be every other day, i usually do them watching my sex and the city re runs!
I just got back from the Super Market...stocked up on salad stuff, bought some WW bagels and english muffins for my carbs...<sigh>
Its crazy how everything good for you costs $$$$$!!! I spent $118.00 easy and I was price checking. I found some skim milk cheddar cheese, really low on the calories, for when I grave and a block cost me just over $8.00!!!!
-
Hello everyone, I have been trying to walk, it has been hard because we hadh snow!!!!. I am hours done with chemo,Hooray. Talked to the doc about exercise, he said that walking, then add some light weights, maybe cycling or jogging. Hahahah about the running. Will try and be more calorie aware next week after the chemo wears off. Have a great dya Dianne Going to get the walking video going
