rinna,
Just keep at it. Somtimes it takes the body a bit of time to realize what is happening to it. Ie. exercise and diet change. Im not sure what your doing at the gym, but maybe increase some cardio? At least 30 min a day. Cardio burns the calories.
I have gone to the gym, everyday since I last posted. Im still doing my elliptical machine,30mins. I am watching what I eat. Portion control too.
Cake, your dinner sounds like heaven. I would kill for some KFC...yesterday I had baked chicken breast, brown rice and peas...I found the trick with brown rice is to season well and add a little olive oil when the rice is cooking. Gives more flavor.
I made some homemade chicken/noodle soup this mornin with the left overs. Had that for dinner and 2 wasa crackers with low fat cream cheese.
I have NOt gone back on the scale, I dont want to. If I dont see the results I want, I usually get discouraged and tend to go back to my "old ways". BTW.....I have another kiddie bday on Saturday...<sigh> more CAKE!!!..lol

Latecomer that wants to join. I would like to lose 50 pounds. I need to lose a few more than that, but my intermediate goal is 50.
I love carbs, and that is my problem in eating.
I am going on a low carb diet, similar to South Beach. I just keep my carbs between 20-60 per day, and my calories no more than 1500. Of course with meat, etc. my fat intake is to great, but that is Atkins and South Beach. I try not to overdo that. This is a diet I can usually stay on. Whenever you get starved, you can grab a piece of cheese, or make an omelette.
I also am doing swimming. I love swimming laps as that is so much more refreshing than sweaty gym stuff. A lot of the ladies at the pool are around my age (60), and sag and have veins, etc. I don't feel awkward.
These week I have gone swimming 4 times and have done 30 laps each time.
I am really fired up. However, I do not want to step on the scale until Dec. 1st.
I had knee surgery a month ago, with that and the BC stuff, I figure loosing weight may lower my chance for recurrence as I was 100% estrogen positive.
Hoping we all lose plenty!

I too do not want to get on the scale... It hasn't moved yet!!! I did join the Spark People web site and have been really good with the portion control, water consumption and excercising. I have noticed a difference in the way I feel... clothes really aren't as tight either! So will avoid the scale until I go to meet with a medical oncologist (FINALLY!) on the 24th! Little nervous about it as life has been slowly getting back to normal - or as normal as it will get!
Congrats to all who are successful with the scale and keep plugging away for those of us that haven't been seeing immediate results!
Be Well All!
-
Big welcome to all the new comers!!!!
I was actually at my GP the other day, and I was discussing my weight concerns. She suggested auqua fit classes. I think I might give it a try!
-
I have been working out diligently and eating mostly chicken, fish, turkey, and lots of salads.Make my own dressings and have cut way back on all white carbs. The scale will not budge and neither does my waistline. I am really starting to get more and more depressed. Do you think its the Tamox working against me. I guess I should see a doctor but hate to go near a clinic durring flue season unless I absolutly have to. AAARRRGGGH
-
mumayan--so sorry that your scale is not budging...seems like you're doing everything right. I am struggling with sweets right now. Hopefully someone will come along and give you a boost. I wish I had some great answers!
fmakj--I'm going to look at sparkpeople...looks good
Lexislove--aqua sounds great! I wanted to get a pool, but we pay for private school for 4 children...hence, ZERO money left for anything. We live like paupers, but our kids have had such a great experience that we just cant pull them to put them into our 3000 person public schools. waaaaaaa! We'd be so freakin rich, LOL!
-
mumayan,
I know your feelings. How are you doing with portion control? Late night eating? This what I do NOW, didnt before. Instead of a standard size dinner plate, 8-12 inches, I use a bread/butter plate, which is about 4 inches as my eating plate.
I put the food on,fill it.And when I finish, thats it. No seconds. I also try...try not to eat after 8pm.But that is what I struggle with. Last night I had some delicious sourdough bread. Just plain but toasted. It was a carb craving night.
Back to the gym today!!
cake, I always hated "public pools". Despised them. BUT....I am willing to try this auquafit. I will do a drop in a couple of times, if I like maybe get a pass. But I have to see about the $$$$ situation.
-
I just finished a piece of my grandmothers blueberry pie.
Its ok right?......its blueberry!

-
Lex I will give the small plate idea a try.I can already see my daughter smiling about it.
-
Good, and eat a little slower. Remember that saying...we eat with our eyes!
-
Give me strength. My daughter (7 years old) was invited to a Tea Party birthday party - and I have to go with her. It's at a quaint little tea room, and they have very decadent things. Ugh. I was doing so good. I'll try to limit myself to one treat and a great big green tea.
-
lol....rinna
I have a 5 yr olds Birthday Party today. His mother is notorious for going allll out!
I had my bowl of Special K cereal with strawberries this morning. and my turkey sandwich for lunch later on. gotta save some space for CAKE!!!!!!
-
Down 3 lbs but that's because I assisted with painting 2 nursery rooms at my church today. Hope I can keep them off but need to rev up my willpower from the sweets. Will try oatmeal or popcorn for snack tonight.
-
Patoo !
Great news on the 3 lbs!!! I will be leaving for my birthday party in 3 hours. I think I will pass on the cake and make up some egg alergy thing...lol.
-
Egg allergy - I should have thought of that. lol
Well, the tea party was ok, as there were some healthy choices - and the tea was great.
Two more days until the weigh in. Here's to hoping.
-
I'm taking a break from calorie counting for a few days. I've got the flu, AND a kidney infection. waaaaa.
Oh, stink...I did gain 2 freaking pounds back last week. Ate like a PIG.
-
Awww....cake sorry about the flu.
But you are right...you gotta get better and counting calories doesnt help. Just a lil set back is all!
-
Hope you are feeling better soon, Cake. My scale has not changed... I think it is broken!?!?
-
ML, it's not broken, it's joined mine and gone on strike. I think my scale doesn't know how to count backwards. I'm just hovering at the same number.
Cake, take care of yourself. Has the flu killed your appetite, at least a little? I've never had the flu but from what others tell me you don't really want to eat much. If you have to get the flu may as well get something good out of it!
-
Hi Patoo! LOL...it seems NOTHING kills my appetite. I wish! But I'm not overeating at least so that's a benefit ha ha!
I have to get SUPER serious now though because in 3 months I have my DIEP, and the doc said it's okay to lose 20 pounds. THat's about a pound and a half a week, so it's doable if I just STICK to it.
If anyone around here prays...feel free to lift up some for me to lose those 20 pounds! I wonder if I'll lose another 10 from the surgery...they're taking both boobies. (LOL...what a diet...let's just remove body parts! what do you think!)
-
Hello everyone, I have been bad about the diet thing. Had hunters over the weekend and baked and cooked. Ate way to many choc. chip cookies. Starting over again today. Trying to get out an d exercise. Have a good day Dianne
-
I pledge to try a little harder!!! Maybe our scales should go to "backward counting 101" classes Patoo! Of course I can not keep giving excuses...therefore the pledge!!
Cake - hope you are feeling better...It takes a lot for me to lose my appetite also!
Good luck everyone on your eating and excersising efforts!
-
Good for you, Dianne and fmakj!
-
I think that cleaning my house today had to help out in the excercise area!! Been washing floors, vacuuming and cleaning bathrooms... Man am I exhausted! Oh well, at least the house is ready for my family who are coming for my daughters Confirmation party tonight! Haven't eaten much either... but you know there is a cake involved!! lol

Hi all is it too late to join???
I was sitting here have a cry about the 25kg (approx 50) pounds that I put on since my dx. Thing is I had lost 20kg and nearly at goal when I was told I had cancer, then all bets were off and ate and ate and ate and here I am now. I am so angry at myself but at the same time angry that everyone else in my family eats the same way and they are not FAT! Life does sux sometimes but that is another story.
Am on tamoxifen but can't blame just that for the weight gain...Don't want to go back to Weight Watchers pay alot of money and only have a very small loss at a time due to the medications.
So from today 19 November 2009 at 8.53am it starts. It's on like donkey kong!
Big hugs
Viv

Hi Ladies,
Hope that it is not too late to join. I need a little motivation. Was in the same boat this time last year and did not take the weight off. Want to have it off by next summer and start a little exercise too. Will have to read back pages. Anyone have any tips. I have had Bilat Mast with implant reconstruction and a bad back so cannot go really hard core at lifting weights. At work they were starting up the Biggest Loser club, weigh ins and exercise. It was all after work and I live out of town. Sounded great but it did not fit in with my schedule. Maybe with some help I can get the weight off by myself.

Welcome vivvygirl and kes! Never too late to join. This is just a place where we can all be accountable and have some fun (?) trying to get healthy
.PS--I weighed myself today...still recovering from the flu and kidney/UTI infection...I lost the 2 pounds gained and another 1.5 woo hoo! Guess I wasnt eating as much as I thought after all.
Though now with this stupid bc, I'm parinoid that I dont really have a kidney infection but KIDNEY CANCER too! I'm being paranoid, right? Help?
-
Cake,
It is so easy to see everything as a potential baddie. I know that I do. Have a headache now so have just taken some pain killers but the thought of ..Is this bad ?pop in there for a moment. In reality it is the after effects of a dental procedure this morning?
A wise person told me that if is there after 2 weeks then maybe start to get worried. You are like me in the first year from dx and wonder how and if are life will ever settle down. I hear it will and things like the worried thoughts calm down.
Big hugs and cuddles, it will all be okay.
Viv
-
Thanks, Viv! I heard the two week rule too...that's good

I have an onc appt on Dec 4 also, so I'll tell her all my paranoia, just in case, LOL!
