Cake, I was in Disney in December. Lost 5 lbs from all the walking and have kept it off. I found I ate less when there because I was on the go from morning to late evening. Have dropped another 8 since then but having trouble getting more off. I do believe I dropped a dress size though.

Hi All, have not dropped any more since going on holidays in February. Just replaced the liner in our pool so am hoping that the incentive is back on!!! Congrats for the weight loss Everyone! I did lose 12 but have gained a couple back - but the gain HAS to stop there!!

I like that idea of the new wardrobe. Now if new funds would come first to finance it...
-
Yep, we're twins. My clothes are all aged. In order to replace the "old" clothes I'd have to replace them all - can't afford that. 35 years ago I made all my clothes - wasn't good at it then so won't even think about it now. So maybe a piece here and there but then I will have all mismatched outfits. Think I'll just retire to Belize and live in swimsuits and shorts for the next 35 years. Yep, that's the way to go. Hmmmmmm, need money for that too. Good grief.

I am joining this group! I actually lost 20lbs during chemo, rads, and surgery. One year after all the treatments I have gain 15lbs. I am so disappointed in myself and need to lose 25lbs to stay healthy I am having a LD Flap June 4th and I'm really scared that will gain more weight because I will not be able to go to the gym. I am determined to lose a few pounds before my surgery. I am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers so this not my first rodeo. I will post my excreise everyday and weight every week. Who's in?

It was the megace!! I went to WW tonight and have lost another 2 lbs. Since going off megace, I have lost 4.2 lbs. Susan, Are you doing WW now? Our oncos aren't too understanding when it comes to extra pounds, are they JO. I know it is a rather petty thing when you look at the big picture, but I feel better about myself when I am not overweight and I think self image is important.
RE clothes shopping....do any of you go to consignment stores? There are some great ones here in Cincinnati and they won't accept clothes if they are over 2 yrs old so most of the styles are current. I get some really good deals and sometimes find things that still have tags on them.

Hi everybody, I need to get involved in this thread.
I did WW last year and was doing great, lost 35 pounds and then I was diagnosed. WIth six months of chemo and steroids behind me, I gained 22 pounds (and most of them are behind me in the form of my ass!) I still need to do rads, but I am getting back on track with my eating.
Of course, I can't blame all the weight gain on the steroids. I didn't pay attention to what I ate and found that I ate anything that didn't taste like dryer lint. With surgery and chemo, there was no exercise happening, by the end of chemo, I had trouble walking up a flight of stairs.
So now the excuses don't apply and I am proud of myself for starting back on WW. I don't go to meetings, I do it online. I have also started working out 3x a week in an after BC program at the Y.
The only cancer meds I am on is Herceptin, that shouldn't affect weight loss, should it??
I look forward to getting to know all you ladies better and having some additional accountability.

Jo: I have that thought frequently, if I had not lost that 35 pounds, surgery and chemo would have been much harder...so I am very grateful. Honestly, it wasn't that hard to lose the weight last year, just cutting out the crap and adding in the beans and veggies.
I am secretly hoping that much of this new weight is fluid from the steroids and it will just fall off. But I have to remember that I did give into every chemo craving I had, so I am sure the crab rangoons and doughnuts are mine to claim.
"If it has a face, it has cholesterol" LOL, I will never look at my pets the same again!!

JO, exercise can be just lifting 3 or 5 lb hand weights while you are sitting. Work on the biceps and triceps. You can also lift your legs while sitting watching TV or reading, listening to misic, whatever. I'm learning that weight bearing is probably better for us in terms of losing weight. Yes, we need the aerobic movement as well but should be followed by some weights to make your metabolism continue to work for a longer period.
So let's jump start this thread once again and get moving - who's up for that?
-
AWESOME JO! I've been away from the boards for awhile do to being busy, but I am still losing! I am up to 35 lbs although I have been kind of slacking, so I'd better start doing better or I'm on the road to gaining! I'm so sorry about your IBS...no fun at all!!!!!

Hello all!
I was checking through here the other day, and wondering how people were doing. This is something I need to do, and really need support.
I gained over 35 lbs since October 2009, and have a history of ups and downs. I had just gotten to a great weight when I was diagnosed. I always gain weight with surgeries, and this was no exception. The chemo brought on another 25.
I have started swimming again, yeay! and I have taken off almost 14 since the end of March. I have to change to a low fat diet, quit eating so much at night, and get my cholesterol down too. My weight loss has hit the wall...so I need to step it up.
I am also triple negative, which means a low fat diet is crucial. I need to start cooking, or learn some simple recipes...I am single, and do the easy route most of the time, and lack culinary skills.
Patoo, count me in for a jump start to the thread...this is so important to me!!
Jo-5, cakeisgreat, Melinda congratulations on your incredible successes

Glad to see every one here!
I am doing pretty well on the Weight Watchers. I am down about 8 pounds. I am shooting for losing 5 pounds in between each third week Herceptin infusion.
It is really hot here and hard to get motivated to go to the gym. I am doing radiation now, so at least I am out and about everyday and there is no excuse not to go to the gym, except for the fact that including rads, I have 10 cancer related appointments this week!
-
Melinda, that's a lot on your plate so the key, and WW does stress it, is to not beat up on yourself but just keep pushing and do your best. One of the things I have found to be best during the week to get to the gym is to not go home! Once I'm in the house it's hard to get me back out. I pack a gym bag and it's in the car on my way home from work.
Squidwitch, I'm also single and the food part is hard. I'm good at breakfast, and most times at lunch, but evenings I tend to make unhealthy choices. Got to work harder on that.

Patoo (and all)
dos anyone have any suggestions for easy low fat snacks to have on hand to grab in the evening?
(that's when I graze the most...)
I can offer a suggestion, which is to get greek yogurt..I like fage 2%..and it's great to substitute for sour creme per my friend...ex., put on beans/burrioto. It has a wonderful thick consistency as it is strained.
I love to mix greek yogurt with yogurt ice cream. Low fat, very filling, can make it into a milkshake consistency. I also top it off with flax meal.

I went and got weighed this AM since I have not been to WW for three weeks due to vacation, and other things coming up and I have hit goal and now no longer have to pay. It ONLY took me 7 1/2 months and I hate to think how many $$$s !!!! It should have taken about four max , but when I was doing megace which is the reason I started WW to begin with I could not lose a pound and even gained a few. I am a lifetime member of WW, but still suffer from the Yo Yo Syndrome and go up and down. I know what I should eat, just don't always do it.
Note that no one has posted for a long time......are you taking a summer break?
Traci, Re snack foods that are low fat.....I love popcorn and Jiffy makes some that is only 1 pt on WW and also you can get an oil free popper at Bed Bath & Beyond and probably other places that works great. There are some snacks that I get at Target that are called SmartFood, popcorn clusters with fruit and nuts and some have chocolate....Very tasty. Also Quaker makes these multigrain fiber crisps and the blackberry pomegranate is wonderful. All Bran makes some crackers that are really good and I also eat a lot of homemade hummus and dip carrots and celery in it. If you can have soy, roasted edamame is really good, but soy is verboten for me....I see you are ER- so maybe it would be OK for you. Most of these snacks I have mentioned are high fiber which seems to be the key to WW these days. They change the program every few years and I myself liked it best when they had the core plan and I still sort of do that, but they encourage you to could points now and all the snacks I listed are low in points.
Hope everyone is doing well and having a good summer. Marybe
