Well that was a game, wasn't it, Ruth!
Pretty pictures, Claire.
-
Badger - so sorry about your mom but it's good that she was/is where she can get help quickly. It sounds as though she is ready for AL and hopefully she understands that as well. It is never easy as our parents age. You are so right - natural consequences are really hard. My sister had the brunt of our mom's care, since mom lived in Phoenix where my sister is. I was only there 4-5 times a year to give my sister a few weeks of much-deserved rest. And even those short respites were taxing for me. I can't imagine how hard it was for my sister to have mom's care 24/7. You are doing the r

Holy Smokes, did we just watch the best game ever! In case you missed it, the Vikings were behind with 10 seconds left and nowhere close to the end zone. The quarterback made a Hail Mary pass, which was caught and run in for a touchdown with no time left on the clock. You have some pretty excited fans all over the upper mid-west; including a 100 year old lady who has followed the Vikings for years, but had never gone to a game. When the Vikings heard about her, they presented her with tickets.....and there she was, cheering them on. Pretty cool way to celebrate your 100th birthday!
Because of our fitbit group, I spent an hour on the treadmill instead of spending the whole day in the recliner!
-
Gorgeous pictures, Claire! Ruth, now we know what you want for your 100th. Badger, your mom will be so much better off in AL.
Zumba yesterday followed by a workout with weights, core bag, kettlebells.
-
When I saw the news this morning I was do excited for you Ruth! What a pass! I'm not much of a football (or any sport really) fan. I can' sit still long enough to watch a game.
Badger- good luck with your Mom. My parents are in their late 80's. My mom would move to an AL now but no way with my Daddy. He still takes care 13+acres! My Dad's mother was 109 when she passed away!
Had a lazy day yesterday. The wind chill is keeping me indoors. Played 2 y/o grandson and a little housework.
Have a Blessed day!

Bucsgirl, I think you may be getting me and patoo confused. I actually don't know what her football leanings are, but I am a football fan through and through. We were a soccer family, but when my youngest was 11 he begged to play football, and I relented (DH was so not happy with me). So I became the football parent (DH was coaching a travel soccer team at the time). Met 3 wonderful Dad's at practices and games who patiently explained every aspect of the game to me, which was at a much slower pace being Pop Warner. Plus my son was a natural, fast and instinctive, and with all that soccer he could kick extra points (worth 2 points in pop warner). He went on to play and kick in high school, and kick in college. And once DH saw how happy football made our son compared to soccer, he came around (took about a year). I remember going on recruiting visits for college, and them asking me if his Dad would be coming up with him for a visit LOL. Such a "boys club" sport, but it didn't bother me. And DH was the videographer that made the tapes we sent to all the schools. We were a good team!
Oh Badger, thinking of you and your Mom. You should try to find a place either closer to you or another family member. AL helps, but unfortunately this continues a downhill time of her life, and she will need her family.
I also chuckled at that circle the moon pose - that's one of the things done in classical stretch, though she never calls it that. I'm not a big yoga fan, but all the gentle body weight stretches done in the classical stretch program suits me perfectly. I have made a renewed commitment to try to do it every day, and I feel so much more energized and limber because of it. Now to start adding steps to my daily routine.
I'd look carefully at the hop on hop off bus - traffic in downtown Nashville can be brutal, and as I recall most of the things are located in a fairly central area. But of course you get the narration which is always a plus. But if Andrew Jacksons home is the reason for the bus, you might be better served by uber.

Here is super-fan Millie Wall yesterday at the Vikings game (with her granddaughter). Her quote was, "All I have to say is that they better hurry up and win the Super Bowl, because I can't live forever!" This weekend the NFL presented her with Super Bowl tickets.....if you aren't up on football, the Super Bowl is being played IN Minneapolis this year.....so Millie is good to go!

I did Zumba yesterday. It was the second class I've been back since the surgery but the first one in which I was cleared to go as hard I wanted. I was glad to have the fitbit on & it told me that I was either in cardio or peak for the entire time. It's the first time I made >10k steps in a day too! The Zumba added tons of steps to my day.
I've resumed morning yoga practice; I'm doing it at home, just 20 min in the mornings.
I'm studying for an exam so a lot of sitting around right now....
confession: Nobody in my house watches sports. I've never even seen an entire football game. But I like to watch the Olympics -
Walked out in the cold today while little DS rode his bike. Yoga later.
Ruth- that catch recovery and TD was the most elegant thing I've seen in a football game in a long long time. Fun fact: my husbands nickname for our little one is Diggs. Has been for years! -
People named Diggs are obviously very cool
-
Pat - I know Patoo is not a sports fan. I was referring to you when I said "You and I." LOL! I know you're a big football fan (like me). No confusion there. Maybe I didn't clarify it well.
Ruth - I really thought the Saints were going to win that game. They're our biggest rival (behind the Falcons). We play them 2 times a year. Drew Brees always comes back in the end. I couldn't believe the ending to that game. They actually turned it around and shocked the Saints. I was quite happy with that ending.
I barely got 10000 steps yesterday. I did everything backwards. I started with the elliptical in the morning.
I watched 2 fabulous playoff games. Sorry everyone, but I have to root for the Florida team. I'm hoping the Jacksonville Jaguars make it to the SB. Yes, hopefully it will be the against the Vikings. Pat may not be too happy that I just said that. I just want the other Florida team to finally get one.
Yay, more pictures of the snow. I love it!

Here are some of my pictures from earlier this year at US Bank Stadium.
In honor of the Vikings win!

I'm so out of football and all US sports, thanks for bringing me up to speed Ruth. Badger, hope the transition for your mother goes smooth. TH, thanks for your thoughts on the weight and I'm counting the days with you. KB870 good that you are feeling better and, wow that is cold.
Interesting new report on pre-operative exercise training: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/anae.14177/full/ Pink Pilates had a decent turn out this morning. I'm up early tomorrow morning with DH to catch the train up to attend the family funeral. Our son will meet us there and we will see all the in-laws. Back late that night alone, DH going further north for business and a dental appointment for me on Wednesday. Fitting all of life's calling on this cold week in winter.
BodyBalance this evening.

Just just got back from a Caribbean cruise to the ABC islands. Walked a lot. Was planning to try the fitness room there but because I walked so much and used the stairs throughout the ship I figured I was getting enough exercise. The only problem is most of my exercise was with my mouth so much food there so good. Now I'm back home and I'll have to start working out in my basement again with my little home gym. I'm doing radiation now so I'm just going to have to be careful to not overdo it

TPralph, so jealous of your trip in this cold and snow! I've been to Aruba, but kind of want to go to Bonaire for the snorkeling. Aruba snorkeling not so hot, but such a nice friendly island.
My exercise today was 29 minutes shovel and sculpt.
-
Claire: beautiful pictures!
Ruth: That game!!! WOW!
Badger: Glad your mom is receptive to AL.
Hi Everybody! Thanks for your kind words about my friend who is so sick. I've been visiting her almost daily. Some days are good and some aren't. Today was not a good one as she thought she had left the nursing home last night and went to a popular lake nearby. She also thought her sister was behind her bed. Her sister is communicating with the doctor about my friend's confusion. Her mother had Alzheimer's which makes it all more of a concern for her mental health.
I walked/ran today in cold temperatures today but had a pretty blue sky with full sun and no clouds. It really helps my mental health!
LB asked me a while ago if this cold weather makes me paint more bc I'm inside more. Well, today I cut out a 25 inch snowman and painted him. Dd had made the wreath a few years ago and I decided it needed a snowman. I'm not quite finished with him as dd will cut out a big G (for my last name) with her cricut machine to be attached to the lower section. Here's a picture of what I have so far.
-
Oh, so cute, Wonderland!
It's a cool stadium, isn't it Bucs?!
It is SOOOOOO cold here; between the below zero temperatures and the gusting winds, the windchill is 35 Below .I think Runnersmom will back me up when I say that' it's physically impossible to go outside without a profanity coming into mind (or out of your mouth, where it freezes immediately in mid-air). Anyway.......I did go to Zumba and Yoga and am now hunkered down for the night.
-
Wonderland - so sorry to hear about your friend but make sure her family members check to find out what medication she is on and whether that might be contributing to her confusion. That happened several times to my dad years ago and it was the medication that was the culprit, not dementia or Alzheimer's.
That snowman is absolutely adorable!

Catching up on over 2 weeks of posts...
My goddaughter got married last weekend (in the aftermath of the bombo-genesis storm) and we were so busy with wedding prep before and then recovery after. We had to check in to the hotel the night before the storm and ended up having the wedding rehearsal in the lobby of the hotel. Crazy but will make for good stories.
Badger- my friend and I are crazy about Pentatonix. We have seen them in concert about 6 times! So sorry for all you and your mom are going through. I know how hard it is.
Ruth- your temperature poem was so funny...and true. We have had such a cold snap in CT, I can't imagine it like that regularly.
I am finally getting back into regular exercise after weeks of back problems and months of annoying chronic hives. I finally was able to make it through Zumba and Water Fitness today without having to stop to stretch my back out. Yay
-
Wonderland - That's a very cool looking snowman.
Ruth - It's a very nice indoor stadium. I'd love to have a stadium like that (but with a pirate ship). LOL! We were in the Buffalo Wild Wings club, which had some very nice views and comfortable seats. The staff are so nice and helpful even though we were wearing Bucs jerseys. We kept telling people that Keenum is no slouch. He had beaten our team when he was in St. Louis. At the time, everyone seemed to be down about having him as a back up. I guess they aren't down about it now. We enjoyed that trip to Minneapolis. Oh, and I just noticed the skol in your new profile picture. Oh my, I certainly remember the skol chant.
Snickersmom - Just wanted to tell you that the temperature balancing sheets seem to be working a little. They are so comfortable. I got the Columbia brand. It was more expensive than the others, but it was worth it. I placed an order for some more in another brand (a cheaper one). I'll compare the 2. Thanks again for the suggestion!
I reached 10000 again yesterday (combined with elliptical activity). I also got in a little shavasana in the end. It was one of the clips in the link that LilacBlue provided. Thanks again!

DH came home from duck hunting last night, took a shower, then asked me to check his fingers because they were hurting - frostbite! So off to the ER we go, tomorrow we see a hand specialist. Just 4 fingers on one hand (his thumb was covered but rest of glove malfunctioned, and he was putting his hands in the water to retrieve decoys). They don't look too bad, a little off color, blistered and swollen, but we will know more tomorrow. It was a late night and I am dragging today, but hope to squeeze in classical stretch at least. Wintry mix tomorrow.

Hi all...I am back from Japan, and will catch up and hopefully post a few pics soon. In the meantime, I am happy to report that Japan is a great walking country (even in the cities) and I got in lots of steps! More soon...

Welcome back, Octo.
Yeouch, Pat. Hope DH is okay.
I went to yoga and stayed for Bone Builders. My Book Club meets tonight so I'm skipping Pound. I have to try to be 'not bad' at Book Club.....which means eating the dessert, but not eat the accompanying nuts and candy by the hand full!
-
Just back from my active yoga class, did the super slow Yin class last night.
Big Pat's fan here so was watching all the games this weekend, which is unusual but some really great ball. Have replayed the end of the Vikings game at least 5 time...WOW.
The story about the 100 y.o. woman was fantastic.
-
Here's one more Vikings picture for my football friends. At the beginning of each game some pillars and a Viking ship, with a figurehead of a dragon on the bow, roll out on the field. When they're introduced, the players run out of the ship, while 'snow' shoots from the pillars and the dragon breathes fire. Someone beats a big drum faster and faster and the crowd chants "Skol" (win). Finally an important guest (former players, military personnel etc.) blows the enormous Viking horn and the game begins. Even if you don't like football, you would enjoy the pre-game festivities!
-
Badger I'm glad that she made the AL decision its a relief that she made it on her own and you don't have to feel any guilt, it's for the best and it will give you peace of mind (((HUG))). Wonderland love your snowman, sorry about your friend I know she has such a good advocate in you. FYI - Vons which is probably Safeway for you has the Lemonade GS cookie, I know my cookies and its exactly the same recipe, luckily I've moved on to the Smores ones Beautiful pictures Claire. I am not a sports fan but I loved the story of the 100 year old woman and saw where the NFL commissioner had actually sat with her and gave her the Super Bowl tickets. Welcome home Octo looking forward to seeing your pics, I have a Japanese friend and he travels to Japan quite often but he only takes pics of food and quite honestly not very appetizing looking food in my book but I guess its what you grow up with. Ginger good to see you back and hopefully your hives and back problems are now all in the past. Tpralph the Caribbean cruise sounds wonderful and yes just do what you can and don't overdo things. LB glad your Pink Pilates is doing well, I am so much more a high cardio jumpy around exercise person, I really resist going to yoga and yet I know it is so good for me, my young friend has just picked up a thursday night Body Flow class, it's not near me but I could jump on the freeway after my Sprint class and go do it, it is my intention to add more Body Flow into my life and now I've said it I must do it. I don't know how all you freezing cold weather people cope, it's 50 degrees here and I'm bundled up like I'm heading off t the arctic circle.
Went to Body Combat on saturday, took a rest day sunday but worked in the garden finishing off cutting down the rose buses so lots of squatting and bending and last night went to Cardio Dance Party.
-
I guess I have to preface this by saying that I/we are not pro football fans at all! I think I probably have the only husband in the country who doesn't care at all about any sports!!! since we are from Connecticut - and I worked at UConn - we are big followers of the women's basketball team, but that's about it. Love watching the NCAA games this time of year, both men and women.
But we are big Patriots fans, of course!!
Octo - welcome home from Japan! You must have had an awesome time. My oldest daughter was born on an Army base in Korea, and I was in Japan several times in the early 70's. Bet it has changed a lot since then!
Pat01 - Holy cow - it's been that cold up there? Hope his frostbite was treatable and he's okay. That is very scary.
TampaBayBucsGirl - glad you like the temperature balancing sheets. I do think they work. I have two sets but will check out the ones from Columbia.
Badger - how's mom? And Badger and Ginger - we LOVE Pentatonix! They are fabulous and I would love to see them in person!
RuthBru - Seriously?? 35 below? I'd be hibernating for the winter in that kind of weather. We are down here in Florida being sissies because it was 34 the other morning. You put us to shame!
Tpralph - welcome back from your cruise! We are hoping to do the Panama Canal this year. We both would rather cruise than any other kind of vacation.
You all are putting me to shame with all of your steps, yoga, etc. I seem to have hit a brick wall this week. I'm tired, not sleeping well, and I just haven't felt like doing anything. I'm only up to 4400 steps today. Shame on me.
-
Ruth is right the weather here has been nasty the last day/weeks. Makes it hard to leave the house! I think yesterday morning when i left for dentist appt it was -45* windchill!! Warmup is coming and tomorrow will be close to 30's. That means I get to run outside after work!! I am so excited. Love winter running, so peaceful and pretty!! Just dont like the extreme cold. Not sure when my last outside run was...pretty sure it was before Xmas.
Ran 2.5 miles on the instead mill after work this evening, followed by 15 min of ab/core work with my bossu ball.
Heading to HS basketball game tonight. Good to get out of house...when its this cold I tend to hibernate!
