Badger, prayers and healing thoughts for your mother. Welcome back Octo and welcome PauletteK. Cheryl, squat jumps - amazing and oh dear, please rest a recover. Pat, hoping for the best for your DH and never knew how quick exposed - unprotected skin can turn to frostbite, nor how it recovers. HeidiHill, you are the dancing queen! Wonderland, no GS cookies here and wish they did..or maybe not on second thought! Made the trip up to the family funeral and back on Tuesday, DH stayed up north to vist clients and returns home tonight. Had some cosmetic dental work done yesterday morning, nothing big, just a bonding over a tooth in the front of my mouth that is yellow and lightened it to match others - happy with results and wish I'd done it sooner. Happy active Thursday everyone!
Pilates this afternoon and BodyBalance this evening.

badger holding you and your mom in my thoughts and prayers ((hugs))
Senior Exercise this morning was tough! But really good - lots of leg-strengthening and balance-improving stuff. Leaving soon for our local breast cancer group’s even rougher exercise class this evening. Not really up to it, but they need lots of us showing up for at least the first several classes to continue to get funding (Pink Ribbon money in action
). So I’ll do what I can and not stress about what’s still way too hard
-
Badger - my heart goes out to you along with a lot of hugs and prayers. Your situation is so similar to what mine was about 1-1/2 years ago. Mom hated the thought of having to go into an "old people's home" even though she was 101 at the time. She did adjust but the first few weeks, she was pretty angry and my sister and me. Once she understood that they could care for her needs better than we could, she settled in and was okay with being there.
Hang in there. You are doing the right thing FOR her, not TO her.
Hugs and prayers coming your way.
-
badger, prayers up for mom. Try and convince her that an AL is not the same as a nursing home, so much of her freedoms she thinks she will lose will still be there, at least initially.
pat01, OUCH! Lesson learned and prayerfully he won't lose too much skin.
Snikers, not sure yet about 2/17. Did you also ask Lynn? I know she is limited because of the dogs.
Temps down in the 20s this morning but may go up for an afternoon walk.
Later friends.
-
Badger, you may have to play the 'bad guy'. I would make an appointment to talk to her doctor and, even if he doesn't feel she is incompetent to make her own choices, he could tell her this is what she HAS to do (elderly patients often don't question their doctors as much we as would). Once she is in AL, one of two things will happen. It might give her a new lease on life; with the day to day things taken care, she might get involved with the activities, make new friends etc. This was the case for one of my aunts. My dad was farther down the dementia trail than we thought, so being in AL did not perk him up (which we thought it would do). But at least he was near to me so I could go over and see him every day, take him out etc. and he was safe. Sending a hug because this is hard stuff.
I went to bed at 9:00 last night. I still feel kind of blah, but not worse. I went to Pound this morning, am off in a few minutes for an afternoon subbing assignment, and, since it is still nice, I will take the puppies for a walk after that. Once I finally get home, I will stay there!
-
Got to my active yoga class today at lunch time...the snow/ice event of last night cancelled my Wed evening class...so only 3 not 4 classes for this week. Temps going down again overnight, so another evening/night of ice, only mid-January and I am over winter!
-
Badger: I have sent up a special prayer for your mom and you and your family. Thinking of you.
Vargadoll: I live in the Piedmont and had a beautiful day of snow yesterday. Almost 8 inches of it!
Pat: Hope your dh heals nicely. So scary.
Stay warm Florida ladies!
Hi All! Today I shoveled snow, restocked the bird feeders, and built a snowman for 1 1/2 hours. Need to do some housecleaning and will walk in the house later.
-
Badger- hugs to you as you work to figure out how to handle all of this.
Wonderland- you are such a good artist, even in snow!
Fifteen minutes of yoga this PM, then took the middle one out to practice driving as he is newly permitted. I exercised my grip. -
Hugs Badger!
Falconer, I know that feeling!!!
I was so sore from PiYo yesterday I had a hard time walking up the stairs!
Did 20 minutes up hill on the treadmill, then 10 min of weights.
I notice I have a hard time getting my heart rate up when exercising. Anyone else have this experience?
-
Badger many hugs & prayers for your mom and you.
Falconer...our youngest can get his permit this winter. Will probably have him get this spring. He has to have for 1 yr before license. I am and am not ready for him to drive...I am sure you know what I mean!
Wonderland...cute snowman!
Nice job to all of you! Great workouts!
I did 40 min of circuit with my bossu ball and then 10 min of upper body weights. Tomorrow I run again. Need to stay very consistent with running right now...will start my training for spring half marathon in about 3 wks.
-
Prayers that your mom improves, Badger, and has a smooth transition to AL.
Wonderland, that's a beautiful snowman. I'm glad you had fun making it!
I'm glad I"m not the only one with dizzy problems! Heidi, once the salsa lessons got to the twirls was when I had to go back to the basic part! Wish we could go to lessons together though!
I planned on going to yoga tonight because work is stressing me out, but of course I didn't get out of work in time to get to yoga. Catch 22. But I did my 17 minute walk/stairs in the building during my 20 minute lunch. Hoping this job doesn't kill me.
-
Took a nice walk this afternoon. Just under 10,000 so will march around the house to get over.
Night sculpted friends.
-
Thanks for all the positive thoughts, hugs, and prayers. Keep 'em coming! Hospital says mom can't be safely discharged back home due to ambulation issues (she's fallen a LOT in the past few weeks - maybe seven times? EMS called on four but she admitted to a few more) in addition to problems with activities of daily living. So now I'm looking into rehab. LOL.
-
I'm continuing to send prayers to all of you who have loved ones with medical issues, or who have relatives that have passed on.
That is a very cute snowman!
My heart rate is high when I'm on the elliptical or climbing up stairs. So, I have no issues with that.
Vargadoll & Runnermom - It has warmed up a little here in Tampa. The frost got to my butterfly garden host plants, but I know they will grow back. I just feel bad for the monarchs. I think the wind chill makes it feel colder than it actually is. I've been wanting to go to Mount Dora. I heard they have lots of antique shops. I may drive over there one day.
I got a little past my goal yesterday. I think it was 10500 steps, with the elliptical activity. I also did some vacuuming all over the house.
Yay, it's Friday!!
-
A chilly winter day from my backyard. The doggies seem to love this weather.
-
TampaBayBucs - let me know if you come to Mount Dora. That's so close to us! I can meet you there!!
-
More prayers for your Mom from me, Badger!
Love the snowman....I am currently up in Reno, where I am outfitting my second home-for-now, soon to be my primary home...and the predicted big storm here seems to have fizzled, which is too bad. The Sierra Nevada needs that snow!
Ok, as promised, here are a few Japan pics: the Golden Temple in Kyoto; the Great Buddha in Kamakura; a food pic (Gyoza, my favorite!); and Mt. Fuji, taken from the bullet train. We had mostly great weather: cold but sunny.
My exercise today will be walking, since the snow didn't materialize...still have another surgery to replace the other knee, in mid-February..
Hugs to all, Octogirl.

amazing pics octogirl!

Started the live strong exercise challenge . They send a workout to your email daily. Tough exercises. I do the lower impact version. Wish there was a different low to medium. Impact program that would be sent to you daily. The fact that they send you a daily exercise, I find very motivating. 35 min. Will walk dog for 30 min later as well
Happy exercising!
-
30 minute workout planned for tonight
-
Great pictures, Octo. I am sitting at the clinic waiting to pee into a cup because I think I have a UTI. Yuck!
-
Snickersmom - I will definitely let you know. That would be great. I've been meaning to take mom there. I'm just not sure when we can do it.
Octogirl - Wow, those are great pictures! The gyoza looks amazing. It's making me very hungry.
Ruth - Hope you feel better soon.
-
Octo - absolutely gorgeous pictures! I have been to Japan several times (lived in South Korea for 18 months in my former life!) and never once saw Fuji so clearly!!!
Bucsgirl - just holler when you are heading this way!
-
Mount Dora is a quaint litthe town. I love it! Lots of cool little shops and good restaurants. The jewelry store. Golden Art is the only place that has ever worked on my wedding ring. If you go Mount Dora pizza is the best pizza! If you are a big thrift store person OMG at the Goodwill there on 441! I could spend all day there! My in laws moved here so my trips to Mount Dora will be few and far between now. I have family in Tampa and Naples. My uncle and his wife were at The Villegas last week. I could have moved to Florida years ago but not DH. He doesn't like the heat.
Ruth I hope you get to feeling better! UTI's are miserable!
The sun is shining and the current temperature is 46 but that wind chill is nasty! I am about 15,000 short on my steps for the week. Maybe I can make a come back today!
-
I was right, it's an UTI......which is good, as I wouldn't want to feel that creepy and not be able to do anything about it! I skipped Zumba (again.....boo hoo) but, since it was sunny, calm, and in the 40s, I took the puppies for another long walk, so should hit the 10,000 steps mark anyway.
-
Octogirl- thanks for those gorgeous shots of your trip. Lovely.
2Fun- I don't have an issue w cardio these days as I am pretty out of shape.
Ruth- sorry you're not feeling well- wondering how your procedure this summer may have helped or changed your body's responses?
TwoHobbies- I am wondering if you could practice yoga at home if you miss class. I know how that can happen- but I just roll out my mat and do my sun salutations on my own!
Happy Friday everyone
Twenty five minutes on the treadmill this afternoon got me two miles.
-
Vargadoll - I live in The Villages! The heat here - and humidity - is pretty much the same as when we lived in Wilmington, NC. We loved it there and still miss it.
Mount Dora is only about 25 minutes from where we live. It's a fun town and there are some great shops and restaurants. Did you ever eat at The Goblin Market? That's one of our favorites along with the Cuban restaurant right around the corner. I've never been to the Goodwill store there but will definitely check it out next time we are down there.
-
Falconer, I get a UTI almost every January, and it's my own fault. A combination of too many holiday goodies and comfort food. You would think that I would learn!
-
Great pix, octo! You are a girl after Ruth's heart. She loves "food porn" LOL.
Hope the UTI clears up fast, Ruth. Good you know the symptoms for quick dx/tx.
hi and ((hugs)) to all going through rough times. Thanks for the continued support.
Got a surprise call from the hospital this morning to come pick up mom. She was ready to be discharged and needed a ride home. Whaaat? The hospital social worker gave us 'bad information' about only being allowed to be discharged to skilled nursing for physical rehab. So the worry and hurry were for naught. Got her home, she went to bed, and I went grocery shopping to replenish the 'fridge as had emptied it out of perishables thinking she'd be gone a while. Mom was still asleep when I got back so headed home. However, when I called to check on her, she said she needed help so please come back. So back I went.
The hospital took her off some stuff so the fog has lifted somewhat and she's steadier. However, although I had set up her weekly pill minder when we got home, based on what she'd had at the hospital, discovered she'd taken all of Sunday's pills this afternoon. <sigh> Guess I will have to go every day and set up the next day's pills as she cannot be trusted to administer her own medications. She was adamant about staying IL but ladies I lost it and cried. So frustrated and stressed. She needs AL period. Going 2moro to make blueberry muffins and maybe one of the nursing staff will happen to pop in and bolster my plea. ♥
-
Oh, badger, crying is such a natural release to all the sadness and confusion you're living through with mom. ❤️
