Ruth can't believe the WWW all walk in the freezing cold, you certainly are a hardy lot. Wonderland I'll bet the Carolina blue sky is gorgeous with the crispy air.
Did Sprint at the gym tonight, met a girl at a party just before Christmas and she knew me from Sprint she was super sweet and tonight asked if she could ride next to me - guess the hair and the fact that I'm the only person the instructor knows personally so I get "called out" a lot, just like Cheers "everybody knows my name" -
LB, sorry to hear about DH's aunt. No, I didn't scale the alps, went back home to watch the fireworks instead.
Cheryl, I was imagining you running around the gym, but Sprint seems to be on a bike. Scared, that Zumba Strong looks interesting. Love the rhythm/music.
Yesterday was running around doing errands. Today a storm is coming so I better get out earlier.
-
Not too much to report on my end. It has been super cold for Florida. I guess the east coast is expecting some kind of high pressure cyclone from the arctic. It may actually snow up in the northern part of Florida. My boss told us to work from home this week. LOL!
I've been keeping up with 10000 steps a day combined with about 20 minutes of elliptical activity. I feel great, and will continue this until I can't do it anymore. I really have a lot of energy now.
Yay to 2018!
-
Happy New Year to all!
Happy Birthday, patoo! Can't believe you're 69
Lilac, sorry for your loss.
Lovely pictures, everyone!
As for the fitbit group, I can't access it from my phone, only see it from a laptop. Good to connect with you ladies! Thanks for arranging it, patoo
I've been dealing with a potential back of hand lymphedema for a week. Gutted
I've been extra vigilant all this time, which is lucky as I noticed it at minimal swelling after a high intensity workout (too many push-ups and planks, which I hate and would be happy never to do again!). Managed to get most of the swelling down, but seeing my LE therapist on Friday to get advice on exercise and future management/prevention, I'd seen her during chemo for a baseline and assessment. I'm going to order a mini-trampoline. It's a good overall exercise, right?!
Looking forward to exercising along you all in 2018! It's a fast moving thread which is awesome
-
Classical stretch done this morning. Got up this morning and realized my scratchy throat (which I thought was from lack of humidity in the house) was really a cold. Ugh! Leaving soon for meals on wheels delivery, and double meals today since they cancelled delivery tomorrow because of the winter storm forecast. 8-14 inches with a howling wind. At least the sun is out and I will get some extra steps in, but it's wicked cold out still (10 degrees). I think I'm just whining because of my cold!
-
No skiing yesterday as my hips are really sore and today driving for an hour and a half one way for 6 month check up with oncologist. Hopefully just a boring, routine visit. Looking forward to a break in this deep freeze around the country!
-
Just remembered, I did shovel snow at my mother’s house yesterday, so got some exercise. Her courtyard was packed with snow and although she can leave the house through the garage, I realized that if there was an emergency, no one would be able to get to her.
-
Good for all of you for getting so much great exercise!! Since the weather here in FL is so horrible, I have been in the house except for walking my neighbor's dog a few times a day. But she doesn't even want to go out! The guys came this morning to lay our new floor but we discovered that it was not what we ordered. So the house will stay a mess, we are now walking on cement, and we will be living on the lanai until Monday! Thankfully, the bedroom still has carpeting and they didn't get to the master bath, Arggg
-
Cheryl, WWW walks inside during the winter. We are hardy but not crazy! Here we are at the fitness center. Wednesday is my triple treat day as I will go to Zumba & Yoga tonight. I am supposed to be at the beautician right now but she is home sick.....maybe I will start to take down the decorations.....the tree is already accidentally down; there was a string of lights out the other day, and, in his enthusiasm to find the cause, DH knocked half the decorations off!
Runnersmom will recognize the 'horn' sign some of the ladies are making. North Dakota State University's Bison football team is playing for a national title in Texas on Saturday

hi all and happy WWW day. For me it was WYP (Weds Yoga People) day. Had first of 12 weekly lunchtime yoga classes. YAY! OMG how I've missed yoga class. Just not the same energy doing it alone. Nice-sized group of 12 women and 3 men.
Gave the teacher a copy of the SUSO paper on breast cancer related lymphedema (BCRL) for fitness instructors (link), said it was FYI as I'm not in need of special accommodations but some people may be.
ErenTo, sorry you're dealing with an LE flare. Have you seen the paper on BCRL for people who exercise? (link) I'll also bump a BCO thread, started by NatsFan, on guidelines on safe exercise for those with or at-risk for LE (pretty much all of us).
Home a bit early as needed a tooth repaired. Ate a caramel over the holidays and put enough stress on a back tooth to shear off a corner. I already knew to avoid crunchy but now must avoid sticky. <sigh>
Will hit the gym in a hour or so, once the after-work crowd thins out. Keep up the good work everyone!
-
Hi all. Did 90 min line dance class today. Wanted to walk this morning but it was raining hard, cold and very windy. Went down to play pickleball this afternoon but only one guy showed up (need 4 to play). The weather was a balmy 47 degrees, nice time to play! Snickers, we both are falling way behind our fitbit group. Guess I may have to get myself over to the gym. Maybe tomorrow.
Night sculpted friends.

Hi Everyone!!!
Today's workout was a sweaty 75 minutes on the stationary bike...listening to music and staring out into space is more therapeutic to me than any appointment with a therapist that I've ever had!
Hbcheryl - Sprint sounds interesting! They have that at my gym also I've been thinking about trying it...
Heidihill - Strong by Zumba is Awesome! It's not very dancy (I'm not good at learning choreography - I think I'm sort of dyslexic - when it comes to that!) And, there's lots of hard but fun moves like lunges, squats, Burpees with great workout music and amazing instructors!!!
ErinTo - Sorry to hear you're dealing with lymphedema!! I know that, unfortunately, a lot of us have to deal with that after having breast cancer...it plainly sucks. Glad you have an appointment to see a LE therapist...hopefully you can get some good answers soon!!
Perigrinelady - I'm sorry your hips are hurting right now!! I hope your appointment was mind numbingly boring!!! (I know that's all I want whenever I have to see my MO!)
Badger - That's great that you're getting back to your yoga classes!! How fun!!!
Stay warm everybody (or try to!!!)
-
Patoo: Happy Belated Birthday!
Cheryl: Everybody does know you and loves you!
Eren: Yikes about your hand swelling. Glad you are seeing your LE therapist this Friday.
Pat: Oh no! A cold! Take care.
Peregrinelady: Hope your appointment was a boring, regular one. That was nice that you shoveled snow for your mother.
Snickersmom: How frustrating about your floor! They better get it right this time.
Ruth: Another fabulous WWW picture. I'll have to remember your dh's new way to remove tree decorations. Love it!
Badger: Glad you are getting back into your group yoga. Sorry about your tooth.
Scared: Sounds like you are meditating on your bike.
Hi Everybody! Luckily the area where I live in NC is missing the bomb cyclone. That's a crazy name for a weather event and it's scary looking on the weather map. We had 31 degrees again today, cloudy and no wind so I was able to walk/run outside. The only area that got cold was my face.
-
Awww Pat I feel you, that blah feeling and you just feel all floppy, wrap up warm and snuggle in for the duration. My goodness you poor Florida girls the winter weather has really hit you and Snickersmom how frustrating to have the wrong flooring delivered and does the cold affect the laying process? Perigrinelady hope your doctors visit went well. Ruth you still have to go out in the weather to get to the Trac so I'm still impressed. Badger is your lunchtime yoga put on by your office or is it at a nearby gym, and what a good turnout. Heidi you'd never catch me running it certainly is not my thing. Scared I love Sprint and I was lucky enough to be taught it by a master trainer who lived in my area boo hoo he just moved to San Diego but when he was here he would call me when he had to present and needed to learn the release and use me as his guinea pig so I couldn't fudge when I was just one on one with him, Aww Winderland love you back
Tonight was Grit Strength for me and my biceps are really feeling it now as there were lots of rows and hang cleans and the dreaded burpee push ups 😵
-
Good evening! Patoo, the line dance class sounds fun. Actually, all of the classes people talk about here sound very active. I tried Zumba for a while and loved it, but it was on concrete floors that killed my feet. Ruth, love the WWW pics. Are there any other BC survivors in the group? So, checkup was boring! Yay, don’t have to go back until summer. My onc is semi retired and only goes in on Wednesdays. As long as I am boring, I will stay with him; otherwise I may have to change oncs at the same center. I have the same doctor as Pontiac Peggy and we will probably meet this summer.
-
Peregrinelady, congrats on a boring checkup! Who knew boring could be so good for us? Wonderland, I copied your idea of a New Year tree and decorated mine for guests tonight. Erento, I also had that back of the hand swelling once but it did eventually subside. I made my onc do a test for gout even though he said it was nothing to worry about. I didn't think of lymphedema as my arm was not swollen. But who knows? I did massage my fingers and hand to help get the swelling down. I think I had strained the hand muscle while trying to lift a kettlebell. It hasn't happened again although I am now lifting heavier kettlebells. Cheryl, I would love to go to the classes with you and get special attention as your friend. I abandoned my bike yesterday when winds started getting too strong and took the tram instead. As I hadn't finished all my errands, I had to go in the pouring rain today to pick up my bike and do all my errands. I think that is enough exercise.

One more reason to exercise.

Today I am housebound as the world closes down in Virginia when there is 5 inches of snow! I am walking circles around the first floor - dining room, front hall, living room, pantry, kitchen, back to dining room - to get my 5 minutes of activity every hour...too silly ;-)
Very glad that I got to my active Yin Yoga class last night as my noon time active yoga class was cancelled for today.
School is closed, the plow hasn't come through yet so my Prius can't go anywhere -- perfect day to make ham soup from the bone of the Christmas spiral ham! Stay warm everyone. TT
-
Interesting article, Heidihill. Those gut buddies seem to control everything!
Well it seems none of us won the lotto but Im trying again! If I end up rich like Oprah, we can all go to Necker Island for a vaca!
Stay safe everyone on the East Coast. Saw a lot of accidents on the news in the south.
Still bitter cold so I did stairs routine yesterday-walk to stairs about 5 minutes-up 8 flights, down and walk back. HIIT. This evening I will go to yoga.
-
It was 27 this morning at 7 am when I went to walk my neighbor's dog. She is a little rat terrier (not much hair) and was shivering so much her pee was coming out crooked! She only would stay out for about 15 seconds and then was crying to go back in. So much for an early morning walk.
The flooring has been ordered with the correct number and it should be arriving at 8 am Monday in Ocala. Then the floor guys are supposed to pick it up and bring it directly here. So I am thinking that by noon on Monday, they should be hard at work in my house. We have a lovely echo now in the great room since all the carpeting is gone and it's just bare cement. Cold on the feet! We have dining room furniture in our bedroom, living room furniture in our guest bedroom, and the kitchen counters are loaded with all kinds of stuff. I had to call the painter yesterday and put him off a week and also the guy installing the blinds in the lanai. What a pain in the neck this has been, all because they were one digit off on the item number. I was very proud of myself for remaining calm through it all.
My daughters and their families are all home from work today and the kids don't have any school for the rest of the week. My oldest lives south of Boston and they are supposed to get 16+ inches of snow. Good thing we didn't stay up there another week! We probably wouldn't have gotten back home until spring!
DH is finally going to the doctor's this afternoon for his cold/cough. It was a dry cough but then turned congested yesterday. Now back to dry. Thankfully, he kept it to himself and I feel fine. I plan on keeping it that way!
I'm off for a walk to get some much-needed exercise. Gotta keep up with the group!!!!
Have a good day, everyone, and stay warm!!!
-
My goodness, I am watching the news and hoping all of you who are in the way of the bomb cyclone are okay (and I will quit complaining about the cold weather here!). Stay safe!
Penegrine, glad you had a boring appointment! Yea and Whew! Of the 16 faces you see on a regular basis in the WWW group, 4 of us have had BC, another has such a bad family history that she has been on Arimidex the last couple years as a preventative measure, and one lady is a 37 year ovarian cancer survivor (she was in college when she was diagnosed and the statistics are very bad for that kind of cancer......luckily we are people, not statistics!!), several others have had serious health situations as well. I guess the moral of that story is; if you are fortunate to live long enough, you will probably have some health crap to deal with along the way......but you don't have to let it define you.
I went to POUND this morning & stayed for the Bone Building class. Patoo, I always go to a class 6 times before I decide what I think of it. But, my initial impression of Bone Builders is that it is an okay thing to add to my routine (more steps, weights etc.), but it wouldn't be high energy enough to be my main exercise.
One of my friends LOVES wrestling & said she pick me up if I'd go to a match with her tonight.....so that is what I will do. It will keep me away from food!!
-
Hi everyone! I am behind...busy few days!! Going back to work after holidays is tough!
Ruth...HORNS UP!! Go Bison! Love the pic!! So sad we are not making the pilgrimage to Frisco this year. Such a fun time! Stupid cancer, I didnt want to miss any radiation and had decided early on if they made it I would stay home! But I had tried to buy tics for rest of family last Aug when they went on sale. Had 5 in my cart for hubby, our sons and my dad. Hit checkout and it crashed!! Lost the tics! Buy the time I got back to the right screen, I could only find single seats. Hubby almost went with friends but decided to stay back this year. So many friends going and I am so jealous and so bummed. Didn't make it to many home games this year because of chemo and no away games. I really feel cheated this year! We are having a little watch party with our boys and friends on Sat morning!
Patoo..Happy Belated Bday!
Scared...nothing better then exercise and mediation. Nothing makes me feel than a long slow run.
Cheryl ..Sprint class sounds fun. I miss spin classes at the gym!
Eren...sorry you are dealing with lymphadema.
Pat I deliver MOW in the summer! So enjoy it!
Peregrinelady...boring is good!
Snicker...hope the rest of your remodel goes off with out anymore snares!
Badger...missing yoga classes at gym right now. Just doing it at home.
Trmtab...stay warm!!
Cheryl...those classroom sound fun!
Heidi...just had a conversation regarding gut health and our overall health with a friend. Interesting info!
Started Tamoxifen last Sat. Going good. A little stiffness but that I have had since finishing chemo in Nov. Also very dry eyes. Not sure if that's related or just because our furnace has ran non stop for 2 wks. Off to hit the treadmill! We are in a wind chill advisory yet again. Really need some warm weather.
-
Yes Ruth you are right shouldn't complain about weather. It always could be worse!
-
i am mad. I lost second activity tracker. This one was a second gift from my hubby. Dont know what I was thinking. I was inside work building all day so I HOPE i can find it tomorrow at work
-
Cheryl, the yoga class is through work, which is great as don't have to go anywhere but down one floor.
My current challenge is mom's medical issues. She's 87 and has been experiencing hip and leg pain. Steroid shot in the hip helped somewhat but the relief was short-lived. The doc determined the issue is her back not her hip, so Monday I take her for an epidural steroid injection. Meanwhile, she's on pain meds and they are addling her brain. She called at 10:30 pm on New Year's Eve thinking it was 10:30 am on New Year's Day. I called her today and she thought it was Sunday. If she can't remember what day or time it is, how can she take her meds correctly? I am so worried. I know she won't last forever but it's hard to watch her decline.
I am coping by working out for stress relief, and cooking yummy food. Tonight I'm baking zucchini bread to take to mom's tomorrow as a thank-you for two of her friends who've been a big help. I don't know what else to do.
-
What pain meds is she on? That might be what's doing a number on her memory and confusion. The other thing is that she could have a UTI. My mom used to get them and we knew it immediately because she would get very confused.
Hope you find out the cause and she feels better soon
-
She's taking hydrocodone for pain. When I left last Friday at 6:30 pm, she had 24 pills. By Sunday morning at 9:30 am, she had 17. Seven pills in 36 hours is a lot, especially when she refuses to give up her nightly glass of wine (which I suspect is more like two or even three glasses). She's supposed to alternate doses of prescription pain med with over-the-counter pain med but it's apparent she's taking what she pleases when she pleases regardless of the doc's orders. I guess I can't fault her for wanting to be comfortably numb. It's hard to be old and in pain.
I called her primary care doc's office today to express my concerns. The nurse also asked about UTI but mom hasn't complained about that so maybe/maybe not. At least they know what's going on.
-
Your mom wouldn't necessarily know if she has a UTI. That will show up in a blood test. As for the hydrocodone - sounds like she's overdosing herself! My husband takes hydrocodone for his back issues and his prescription is for one pill 3 times a day. But he's 73 and I'm sure he can tolerate it a lot better than she can. Since she's also washing them down with wine, she's really doing a number on herself!!
Do you live close enough so that you - or someone else - could just leave her with enough pills, say, for a day or a night? That way, she would only have access to a few at a time.
I can understand that she wants to get rid of the pain. I have had back issues for years - herniated disks 3 times - and have been on Tramadol for about 7 years. The first time, I ended up spending a week in the hospital on morphine because it was so bad. They didn't really know what to do with me, so gave me a lumbar epidural and all that did was cause permanent nerve damage in my leg and foot. What helped me the most all 3 times has been physical therapy and bed rest. The only way I was comfortable was laying on my right side, so that's what I did. It was really hard but it was the only thing that helped.
I don't know if this helps at all but at least it gives you some insight into hydrocodone. And I would definitely ask them to test her for a UTI.
Hope this helps; let me know. Good luck
-
Thanks, Ann, I appreciate the info. I live 90 miles away but it's only 20 miles from work and a heckuva lot closer than FL. Mom lives in a nice senior living place and is still in independent living but I'm going to inquire about a step up to assisted living. She doesn't need help bathing, dressing, or cooking but I'd feel better with someone monitoring her meds. Unfortunately, that someone can't be me on a daily basis. They offer services on an a la carte basis so maybe not a lot more money.
-
Good idea. They probably have someone who can monitor her medications for her. That sure would make you feel a lot better. The combination of wine and hydrocodone is probably making her feel pretty darned good! But I would still ask them to check her for a UTI.
I hope this has helped. She's lucky to have such a caring daughter.
Keep me posted

Ruth - what a great looking group of friends
