3 mile run outside after work. Wore my new headlamp, listened to The Blenders new Christmas album (Ruth will know who they are!) and ran thru residential neighborhoods so I could enjoy the holiday lights. Beautiful weather and a wonderful run.

snickersmom, I am always falling asleep the minute I sit down . I has 4 surgeries in 8 months...that was 6 months ago. I can tell I'm better than I was 1 month ago. I still can only do 10 min on the elliptical. Did 10 sit ups at work every time I had the room to myself. Got 40 in today. This is a long , slow slog to health. I realized I cant sing at all (was trained in opera) and I'm sure it's all the intubation, tubes, diaphragm trauma etc.. gotta just keep going. Thanks for the encouragement!
-
Yes, I know The Blenders! Glad you enjoyed the run 'cause it sounds like it will be winter tomorrow
-
Runner: Love your story about Overcomer! I believe in signs and that's a huge one that you had. Hoping you have a easy time going through the rest of your rads sessions.
I hurt like a B!+cH for months after Taxol - so stiff and painful. I think it's pretty common to feel that way.
Well, it was 72 degrees today. So sweet! During my walk/run I wore my exercise shirt I wear during colder weather - got overheated and barely finished. Plan not to do that again!
-
2Fun, where did you study opera? That is so interesting!!
-
2Fun- thankyou! So glad to know I'm not the only one who starts fading in the afternoon. Not every day, but here and there. I think part of it is because of the holidays
This is usually such a happy time of year for me and in a way, it still is. But I'm finding that this year I have a little trouble with the sad Christmas songs and I just don't seem to have much Christmas spirit. Going to do some shopping with my daughter tomorrow, so maybe that will help me out of this funk.

Wonderland, good on the clear mammo. Nice to read of everyone being active and recovering.
Our Pink Ribbon Pilates gathering Monday Morning was nice and we return to mats on January 8th and new evening class starts on January 9th. I have been very busy with trying to get last minute whatever is needed bought. Got the voucher for HD to have a day out driving 3 different super cars, bronze turkey in fridge and more for DS birthday this Saturday. This is in between my own classes and covering for other instructors who are away. Had two replacement fillings late yesterday morning (after BB cover before appointment) and then an hour later teach my own class with half my face frozen - such a lovely sight! Busy day today, DH staying in London for his office xmas party tonight, I've got 5 classes today 2 BB, 2 Pilates and 1 stretch & tone. I'll be a limp biscuit this evening. I hand out M&S individually wrapped dark/light truffle chocolates as a Merry Christmas to everyone who attends any class I teach this week. Needless to say, getting great feedback!
Have up coming two days off, Christmas day & Boxing Day - yay, so walking our rural lanes on those days will be my plan. Happy Hump Day and Boo-Hiss to new tax passage.
-
Workout tonight
-
patoo, I take 600 mg calcium with 800 IU vit D3.
Signed up for a lunchtime gentle yoga class at work, 12 sessions for $60 what a deal!
-
TrmTab - Wow, 40 lbs! I'm hoping that I can lose that much weight too. That's awesome!
KB870 - The fact that you kept up your normal routine is inspiring. Not everyone can say that. I was a total couch potato during the 12 weeks of chemo. I had no energy. I didn't even feel comfortable driving. I gradually started exercising again after that. That's great that you're getting stronger after Herceptin. Did you feel any heaviness in your legs during Herceptin? Maybe you're used to the resistance that you get when swimming. I had trouble walking up stairs. I'm definitely stronger now. I don't feel that weight in my legs anymore.
Wow, it's so hard to keep up with all of you. I did 2 elliptical sessions yesterday since I had the day off from work. I couldn't get past 18 minutes the first time, so I tried again later. I was surprised that I got an extra 20 minutes for a total of 38 minutes on the elliptical. Boy, am I feeling it this morning. LOL!

I've been increasing the duration and intensity of my 2 daily walks. They're now with additional difficulty as we had a dump of snow, then a bit of a thaw, then it all froze overnight so it's very slippery everywhere. I'm penguin waddling around cautiously as I do not want to fall!
Yesterday was 1 week post op so I started the next set of stretching exercises which I've been prescribed by physio. There's a fair bit of tightness in the area but the exercises are doable. -
We finally have enough snow in the mountains for Nordic skiing!!! So hoping to get in about 5 days of skiing over the next 2 weeks. That will do a lot to counteract the "eat everything not nailed down" attack that I have been experiencing recently. I notice that when I am buried with work, I tend to eat more and exercise less, and we all know where that one goes.
I am down to my last report, so on the home stretch. Things will ease a bit after then. I still need to steam puddings, or at least the first batch of them.
I think the past 2 days here have featured all 50 shades of grey
Thrilled that we should have sun soon, and through Christmas.
Need to get to the bike shop today for a new chain. Mine broke during my Saturday ride, and I think it could be defective, as quite new. Breaking a chain is a first for me. Thankfully, I was rescued by a couple who had the chain tool and a link.
I will see if I can start 2018 with a ski on Mount Rainier. This requires clear roads and sunny skies. We shall see, as just the most glorious way to kick off the New Year. - Claire

Hello ladies. Just starting on this thread at the recommendation of Runnermom.
I start chemo on Friday, and have a question. If any of you were exercising/running/swimming regularly before treatment, how much exercise were you able to maintain during chemo or radiation? I will be on 6, 3-week cycles plus Herceptin infusions on the weeks in between. Radiation comes after that. Up to now, I have been swimming (slowly) with a Masters team, and doing yoga and strength/conditioning with a trainer. I want to manage my expectations from the beginning so I don't find myself in a funk as the cycles stretch out.
I would especially love to hear from any swimmers out there.
Thanks for maintaining this great thread. So optimistic and encouraging!
-
KB870 - so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who crashes sometimes in the afternoon!! If I can just get past 2 or 2:30, I seem to be able to revive.
Went out to do some Christmas shopping with my daughter this morning and got in 1.2 miles but my Fitbit is cranky today and isn't coming up with the number of steps. At least I was out and walking around! I will be out again tomorrow, trying to finish up.
You have all inspired me so much!!!
-
Welcome, Dives, I'm not a swimmer so hopefully someone will come along with some specific swimming advice. As far as the rest of it, there is just no one to know how you will respond to treatments. Some people maintain a pretty normal schedule and some are just crashed. So it's a play it by ear type of thing. If chemo, most people have a couple steroid days where their energy level is high, and then a drop followed by starting to feel more normal (until the next time). During chemo, I made myself walk a lot and do some light toning. I figured that whatever I could do would help me rebound faster once I was done. I didn't need Herceptin, but had a friend who took a group of foreign language students to Germany between her last two rounds (she was in no way a 'typical' patient......but it's encouraging to know that some people do really well!). I actually felt my energy returning during radiation, which is also not typical, but can happen. Since you are a committed exerciser, even if you slow way down during treatment, you will be able to (slowly) get back to your previous levels......but the process is more of a marathon than a sprint.

Here's the Wednesday Walking Women, notice the wintery weather in the background. Brrrr......more to come!
-
ruthbru - keep that white stuff up there!!! We don't get any of that in Florida and I sure don't miss it at all! My niece and her family all live in the Fargo area. Where are you all from
-
Snickers, my parents used to live in the Fargo area, so I spent a lot of time going that way when they were alive. I'm only about 100 miles west so still get over there on occasion.
-
Last day of school just about to wrap up...then off to my active yin yoga class. TT
-
I think they are actually in Mayville. Does that sound familiar
-
Yes, it does. I have driven past Mayville many times & went to party there many centuries ago when I was in college
-
The world just keeps getting smaller and smaller!!
-
-
A rainy sluggy kind of day. I'll be more active tomorrow!
-
Wonderland - we lived in Wilmington, NC for about 3 years in the early 2000's, and we absolutely loved it there. Glad you are getting some rain - send some south to Florida!
I need to get cracking on my exercise plan as soon as we get back after Christmas. My daughter is lthe cookie baker of the family, so guess what I munch on all day.....
-
Hi Everyone. Have a house full of sick kids- teens running fevers and four year old croupy coughing. At least they'll get it out of their system before Xmas.
I did sneak down to the treadmill this evening and walked 1.5 miles.
TrmTab- I've tried yin yoga once when I was at the Kripalu institute. My local teacher doesn't specialize in any particular method. Does it help with achy AI joints?
Lilac- Happy birthday to the DS! Is he turning 19? -
hi all and welcome Diveslikeagirl. I started a walking program after BMX. Since then have logged over 7,000 miles (see signature line which is where I keep track). I've only been a gym rat since July. :-)
Crazy tights, Ruth!
-
Gotta wear the holiday garb when you can! It only got semi-nasty so I ventured out to Zumba & Yoga tonight. I must have a masochistic streak because I agreed to a sub job tomorrow, which is the last day of school here......
-
Agreed, it's the perfect time of year to wear festive tights with holiday lights! That winter weather is here 2moro. Hit the gym 2nite. 60 mins: 20 TM, 20 weights, 20 yoga.==> 480 cal burned.
-
Ruthbru- Love the tights!! Stay safe out there
