cvd: Oh my goodness! That picture is terrifying. Glad you and your dd were not hurt more than you were.
2FUN: UTI's are so painful and debilitating. And to have a massive one just sounds terrible. Hope you find improvement soon.
Put up the outside Christmas lights today. Walked/ran after going to the store to buy more lights
-
Sorry to hear that 2FUN, been there with UTI and it's no fun. Does cranberry help?
Ruth, I so admire your ambition & drive! I haven't even bought my holiday cards yet.
Walked at lunchtime, and headed to the gym soon for some cardio & yoga stretch.
-
yay for seatbelts!!! Yikes, that is one totalled car.....
Did a bit of walking today. More dreaded PT tomorrow am....it hurts, but it helps...

No luck on finding a tree in the yard, but we did trim a few candidates for next year. Off this morning to the cut your own tree farm, walking around and choosing will be my exercise today. Have a nice weekend everyone.
-
cdv OMG that car photo! So very glad you and your daughter weren’t seriously hurt!
Only walked a bit yesterday. But am cooling down now from 30min interval plus 10 min moderate steady pedaling on the exercise bike. Also got some walking in this morning. Slowly but surely trying to get back into the exercise habit
Wishing everyone here a happy weekend
-
Hi Everybody. Dh and I rang the Salvation Army bell for 2 hours today. It was a 65 degrees and a great day to be outside for such a good cause. Walked/ran afterwards. Will be meeting dd and her friend for dinner in a bit.
-
Been working out just about every day. I am now using a belt called my zone. One of these day's i will figure out how to post the workouts. Been busy lately. Lots of parties this weekend then heading to a conference in Atlantic City for a couple of days. Really hate to lose the momentum of going to the gym. I feel so much healthier. I definitely have more energy.
-
I just have no energy to exercise, and I can tell I'm getting weaker, not stronger. Argh! I will.try to rake in 5 to 10 minute increments.I thought I would be further along 5 months post last surgery.
-
Brutersmom, is there a gym at the hotel? I know time is an issue on work trips, though. Maybe your trainer could give you a short routine using your body weight or something easy to pack like resistance bands? Regardless, you will get right back to your routine when you are home. Love your momentum, you got this!
2fun, I am sorry about the UTI. Not being able to take the usual treatments is even worse. I hope you are feeling better soon. I completely understand your frustration about not being able to do much and not feeling 100%. Be gentle with yourself. Everyone reacts differently to surgeries and treatments. Building up in small increments is a great idea. It won't seem like much at first, but it will build towards more.
Kb870, I'm intrigued by rowing. I have a couple friends who do it as their primary fitness program and love it. Once I have a functioning wrist and am cleared for ab work, I'm going to add it in to my routine. Glad Herceptin is done for you and that the echo was good!
Pat, sorry there wasn’t a tree for this year at home but hope you found one at the tree farm. I love the idea of a real Christmas tree, but I am allergic to them.
Ruth, you are so organized and on top of it getting your presents shipped off like that. I’m behind now and not sure how I’ll catch up. But I’m never ready to mail off my stuff, injured or not. 🙃
Octogirl, hope PT went well and you are feeling improvement day after day.
Everyone is gone today. Hubby is working and college dd is at a debate tournament out of state and highschool dd is at a speech and acting tournament in Chicago . I’m keeping still but mentally making lists of everything that needs to be done. I won’t do any of it, but it’s hard for me. Thank goodness for the internet and Netflix.
-
A quick check in (I am imposing a 'no loitering on the Internet' rule until I get some things crossed off my list). Yesterday I walked dogs, did some weights & went to Zumba. I went to yoga this morning and should take a walk outside because it might be our last nice day (until April )....but I have to see how much I can get done first. Onward!!!!
-
Hi All!!!
CDV - OMG!!! I saw your photo!!! I'm so glad you and your daughter are safe... How very frightening!!
I hope everybody's having a fun weekend!!
As for me, my work schedule changed and now it's more of a challenge to make it to the gym. (we have a new boss who likes to change things - oh well). But, I am finding a way to make it work - I might have to start working out very early in the morning (instead of in the evening) so I can get in a nice good hour on the stationary bike...
Flying to LA today - for DH's company Christmas party. Will NEED Ativan for this - as I'm deathly afraid of flying!!!
Then, flying back home - tomorrow! I got to go to Body Combat today - but will have to miss my U-Jam class tomorrow!!! Ugh!!!
-
CDV, I hope your wrist heals well. I know you are thankful its not worse, seeing that car.
Scared, I hope have fun (once you get there). My son is deathly afraid to fly so I know its hard.
Tessu I've done the HIIT and I do feel it is quite effective at increasing your fitness. But it is a little painful isn't it?
2Fun I just got over a bad UTI about 3 weeks ago. It didn't seem that bad when it started but it took two week of medicine to get over. I was in a bit of a panic that it wouldn't go away because I am also allergic to everything they want to give me. All I can take is the nitrofurantoin.
Beautiful unusual weather here for December - 54 degrees - Wonderland, reminds me of a Carolina wiinter! Walked with my dog and son for 20 minutes and then did 25 of mowing to mulch the leaves that have fallen this week. The agenda for the rest of the day is putting up my Christmas tree and trying to get through a fast today.
-
2FUN: (((HUG))) Hoping you find relief soon.
Brutersmom: Have fun in Atlantic City!
KB: Congratulations on finishing Herceptin and that your echo result was good!
cdv: Rest is good. So is Netflix and the Internet. Thinking of you.
Ruth: How's your list coming along? Do you have much marked off?
Scared: Yes, pack your Ativan!
TH: Love when the weather is beautiful under a Carolina Blue Sky!
No exercise today. I attended a baby shower. It's amazing how one little baby needs so much equipment! Luckily the couple drove their truck so they have room to pack their presents. Now I'm being lazy on the computer with my feet up.
-
CDV- whoa! Hope the bones are on the mend. Those pictures were terrifying. I am impressed that either one of you got right back in the car. So glad it wasn't worse!
2FUN-I am allergic to all oral antibiotics so I feel your pain. I am currently working with an allergist at Brigham and Women's to challenge a couple of the drugs I previously reacted to and see if we can find something I am able to take when I get sick. I guess there has been research that people who had reactions to penicillin over 15-20 years ago may not actually be allergic. I am doing the final test tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Yesterday was our church fair and I run the silent auction. It's been challenging doing anything with this uncooperative back. Both DD came home and along with DH we got it done with teamwork. We decorated our tree last night. I just love it. It's full of the homemade ornaments my girls made over the years. Some of them have seen better days but they still seem to find their way onto the tree
Ruth- I am hoping for some of your organization to wear off on me. I have not bought any gifts yet and we have not done any cards. Definitely going to be a simple Christmas around here.
-
I did a few things for the holidays yesterday but nowhere as organized as Ruth. Then again, few people are!
Got the remainder of items for out-of-town treat boxes except for the cheese fudge, which I will go get today.
Indulged myself in some junk-novel binge-reading yesterday as had books due to the library today. Gym later.
-
Did another 30 min of interval, then an extra ten min pedaling moderate speed on the exercise bike. Had planned to follow with Pilates but just could not force myself to gather my gear and drive downtown
Maybe I just need to celebrate each exercise session as I do it, until I get back into better shape, and exercise starts to feel pleasant again. I AM moving much more than a couple weeks ago. Reading on this thread is good motivation for me and I thank everybody who’s been posting here!
-
today's exercise is walking through airport terminals
Already have 40 minuets of activity and only halfway through tri
-
cdv, that photo is so scary. hope the wrist heals quickly. KB, you make me want to try erging again. Congrats on your echo results and finishing Herceptin. TH, I need to fast as well but instead I made chocolate muffins for DD who goes away for a week tomorrow. 2fun and Ginger, hoping for speedy antibiotic free recoveries. Tessu, you've motivated me to post so I can motivate others. 😬
Have been walking or using public transport since I was too lazy to put air in my bike tires. One way to increase my steppage. Yesterday was Body Combat and today zumba.
-
My 'list' took a hit yesterday because we met some friends at a restaurant/bar to watch a college football game (North Dakota State University has a powerhouse football team that wins national championships quite regularly). They were in a playoff game that you couldn't get on your home TV.....so along with watching the game (which 'we' won), I had two beers, and was totally worthless the rest of the evening!
I have now been watching football on TV and doing Christmas cards..... since the Vikings won; I am going to take a break, do some abs and walk on the treadmill. Snow is in the forecast for tomorrow, so the party is over!
-
Got the chocolate cheese fudge and holiday cards so getting there LOL. It was nearly 60 this afternoon so skipped the gym in favor of a walk outdoors. Like Ruth, we have a short window of nice weather to enjoy then a long wait until Spring. Also did an hour of housework aka Scrub & Sculpt. Roasted a chicken for Sunday dinner & now have a stock simmering mmm my house smells good! Have a great week ahead, everyone!
-
Quick trip to LA this weekend to see my beloved granddaughter in her debut performance with a nationally ranked children's choir she joined several months ago....can't think of a better way to spend a weekend! My exercise was mostly walking around town (we had a few hours to kill so explored a neighborhood we hadn't visited yet) and then walking from the parking lot to the concert venue and back. However actually that was more walking than I've done since the knee replacement a month ago! (My cell phone says I did almost 3900 steps yesterday)....This morning we just hung with the grandkids before making the four hour plus drive home....Badger, Ruth and others in northern and midwestern climes: you do NOT want to hear about the (sunny, 73 Degrees, clear and perfect) weather in LA this weekend! However, back home now where it is foggy and cooler, though granted, no snow!
Going to start getting serious about walking this coming week...
Have a great week,all!
-
Love reading all the posts! Today I took a much needed nap (had a hard time falling asleep last night). Woke up and walked/ran at the park. We are also having delightful weather.
-
Ran 4 miles this afternoon outside. Blizzard forecasted for tomorrow so maybe stuck on treadmill inside for a few days. Did some online Christmas shopping, coffee with a friend, went to the NDSU football game that Ruth watched on TV and supper out with my husband's siblings and spouses. A fun busy weekend so tonight I am on couch watching the Eagles game ...we are Wentz fans! He is a great kid!
-
Wonderful to read what everyone is doing by staying active in this run-up to Christmas. DS came home for the weekend and he helped with Christmas decs & tree. Now to get him up and on the train back to Derby and me to Pink Pilates at 11am. Learning new BB #79 and enjoying it. Thought this article was thought provoking, re: minimally disruptive medicine: http://cancerworld.net/patient-voice/does-being-a-patient-have-to-be-a-full-time-job/
Have a good start to the week everyone!
-
LilacBlue interesting link. Glad someone recognizes all the extra time is taken up going to and from the lab, to and from imaging, worrying about results between sample/imaging and hearing the results from your doc often many days later.
Finally restarting at my health club: leaving soon for Spiral Stabilization class to help get my spine and shoulders back in shape
Crossing my fingers I’ll get theough all of it; I’ve been too lazy to do any real stretching at home.
-
Boy, Lilac - ain't that the truth!
Sunday DH and I walked around the lake 45 minutes, and then today is our last day of warmth so we walked at lunch 1 hour 3 minutes. 65 degrees, can you believe it? That is the last of it though. 35 degrees coming our way tomorrow.
-
Good article, Lilac. From living in a rural area, I know it's true. I had to travel 100 miles for my treatments, which meant 200 miles every day for 6 weeks during radiation. I often thought about elderly people, or people who had very bad side effects, and what an impossible burden it would be for them.....just for standard of care treatment.
Well, the party is over for us weather-wise. I woke up to ice, snow, cold, and gusting winds . I spent the morning cleaning the house & not knowing what the evening would bring, I did 30 minutes on the treadmill & a 45 minute toning DVD. Yoga ended up being canceled (which is good because driving down & back up an icy hill didn't appeal to me), but Zumba class was on (which was good since it's only two blocks from my house). We had a small class made up with people who are crazy, or live on this end of town, or both!
-
Wow Ruth, ice and snow, ugh. On a business trip to New Orleans so today was 77 degrees. For me second day of 12,000 steps with lots of shorter walks that totaled to over 45 minutes of "activity" according to Mr. Fitbit
Not to brag on the weather for too long...a front comes through tomorrow and the temps drop over 25 degrees...
TT

This is so nice that I have to share:
-
LB: Spot on article!
tessu: Hoping your class helps get your spine and shoulders back in shape.
TH: Brrr! Good thing you walked outside today.
Ruth: BRRR for you also! We are suppose to turn cold at the end of the week.
TT: Have fun in New Orleans!
We have an organization in my county that serves people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. At Christmas they ask for assistance with their clients and children of their clients. So this morning I went shopping for a 2 year old girl. It's been years since I've looked at dolls and I had the best time picking one out along with a doll stroller and seat. I still need to purchase clothes and a few other things. The girl is cared for by her grandmother who has HIV and cancer. The grandmother also takes care of 4 other grandchildren ages 8, 5, 4, and 3 months old. OMG! I can't imagine how she does it. I'm so thankful for this organization.
Walked/ran this afternoon. Tonight I went to my city's Christmas Parade. I love to yell at people in the parade that I know. I was in the band and marched in many parades. Enjoyed watching the bands march by with Christmas lights on their instruments. Too cool!
