Yay for good numbers Brutersmom!
-
Off to lunch time 75 minute yoga class...followed by Dentist - 6 month cleaning. Hadn't planned it this way, appointment was pushed out a couple of weeks due to a reschedule, but now won't have much desire to sample the candy we are giving out tonight - so double bonus! TT
-
Thank you Cheryl, glad it was awesome and Susan is amazing, love the photos (is your girlfriend the one with the sideways look?)..oh, do tell, how was BB/Flow 79? Heidihill, seated tai chi works really well for many on park benchs (LOL -YES) and you go dancing queen. Wonderland, like the lounging on the front steps with the cat - in costume no less! Butersmon, excellent work - well done! Octo, all the best to you for speedy and full recovery.
One of the instructors I know only 42, had a stroke w/blood clot from her brain removed two weeks ago. This woman is super fit, teaches, grit, cxworx, & bodyattack. We never know do we? It's gonna be a slog back yet she is going to make it. We live rural and rarely have trick or treaters. Knocked out a new flyer for the evening pilates class starting in January 2019 and Pilates at the leisure centre this afternoon and then afterwards, had a reflexology treatment. Wow, was that heavenly, simply divine. Catching up online with emails and dithering actually lol. Hey, ran across this quote that rings true for me: Wear your flaws like a damn masterpiece; your vulnerability is where all the juice is. ~ https://www.instagram.com/heidiyogi/ Happy
Halloween, wherever in the world you may be.

A very bewitching photo, Wonderland!
Heidi is the Dancing Queen, and I think that Cheryl is the Exercise Goddess. What a weekend!
Congratulations on all your good low numbers, Brutersmom!
Since their masters couldn't get home at noon, I took the puppies for a brisk walk (and I mean brisk, it's cold out!) and now just did a 45 minute toning DVD. I'm not going to class because I want to be home for the trick-or-treaters.
Lilac, your quote reminds me of one of my favorite poems, by Leonard Cohen:
"Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in." -
As always, you all are beautiful inspirations. Thanks for being here, letting the light in.
Thinking of you, Ginger. Hoping you're feeling better. -
I took a Team exercise class today. I was the only one there so I got extra special attention and I feel it. It must have been a good class because my back which had been aching off and on for about 2 weeks feels great tonight.
-
Dark, cold, and snow flurries forced the Walking Women inside. We're in front of a baseball picture in honor of the World Series. Zumba and Yoga tonight.
-
Off to my 75 minute mid-week Yin Yoga class after work today...a perfect mid-week workout to recenter for the second half of the week. Tomorrow off on a business trip through to Sunday (hate it when I miss the full weekend, don't get home until after 6pm on Sunday!) so after tonight, my exercise will be walking...walking from parking garages through airport terminals, walking at every break in meetings as I will be sitting for unreasonable amounts of time, walking hotel hallways...but will at least assure that I get my 10K steps! Also first solo business trip since exchange, I am 8 weeks post-op...bought a new spinner roll aboard so I don't have to lift so much... TT
-
Sounds like many of us are practicing yoga these days. Tonight I did asana practice and pranayama to follow. Work was particularly exhausting today so my head needed the calm. Do any of you have a regular breathing or meditation practice that you like?
-
Falconer, I like the brief meditation at the end of Rodney Yee's AM Yoga stretch. It's a great way to wake up: 3 mins conscious relaxation, 10 mins gentle yoga stretch, 2 mins meditation. I have the DVD and memorized the routine so do the yoga stretch sequence after my workouts.
Stressful day so hit the gym hard tonight. 30 TM/40 weights/15 foam roll & yoga stretch ==> 650 cal burned
-
Falconer- I FINALLY got a medicine to calm the itching from these hives down after 8 weeks. Doing so much better. Got back to Zumba and Water Fitness but I have definitely lost strength and endurance so will work to build it back up. Back to Boston on the 13th for more tests.
Storms hit us hard on Sunday. We lost power Sunday night and still don't have it back. School was cancelled Monday and Tuesday. So many trees and wires down there was no way to get the buses through. Got back to school today. Hoping to get power back tomorrow.
Lilac and Cheryl- glad you got to meet up. Sounds like it was a great visit.
Wish I was meeting up with the travelers heading south. When do you go?
Better sign off. With no wifi, I am using up data...
-
Badger: Who from work were you telling off when you hit the purple zone?
Ginger: Finally! Happy for you to get the right medicine! Your storm was a nasty one. Hope you get your power back tomorrow.
Nice picture Ruth.
Walked/ran yesterday and today. Definitely need it after eating Halloween candy! Gorgeous weather both days.
-
Dancing queen, haha. That song was on my workout playlist for years.
Brutersmom, great numbers! Exercise IS medicine. Ginger, great to have one problem resolved. Hope you get power soon. Ruth, awesome picture. Go for that 200K challenge, KB.
Dancing again, but more steps helping a friend move. Somehow all not counted as active minutes on Fitbit. Hmm
-
Falconer, I have a number of Nature Sounds & soft piano songs CDs. If you go an Amazon and type in 'Stress Reduction CDs' (or 'Relaxation' or whatever), you can listen to samples and see if they sound like something you'd like. I have never found one I like enough to recommend (except for one I bought for $5.00 after I went to one of those acts where people are hypnotized on stage & did goofy things....this guy's stress reduction CD was great....but not available anywhere else, I checked).
Ginger, so glad you found a medicine that works! The strength will come back. We will all be in Daytona by Sunday. For new gals, some of us from this thread take a yearly vacation together (all are invited!). This is our 7th year. We meet up in different parts of the country, try to get together with some of the local BCO ladies, and just have a blast being together. Stay tuned for pictures.
I am going to the college production of the old musical "On the Town' tonight, so need to get my exercise in during the day....haven't decided what I am doing yet.....
*edited to add that I walked for 45 minutes & did 15 minutes of abs.
-
I was trying to think of how many years this thread has done a vacation meet up - is this the sixth? I haven't been able to make all of them, but was trying to think of all the cities. This is what I came up with - what did I miss??
- Minneapolis
- DC
- LA/San Francisco
- SoCal Coast
- San Antonio
- Daytona Beach
-
#2 was Chicago.....so we're on #7!!!
-
Falconer, I use Youtube for various meditations-just search "healing", "sleep" "anxiety" whatever you need. Can be hit or miss if you will like it. Warning: If you want to fall asleep. use a sleep one. One time I feel asleep to one and was awakened by a gong at the end. My favorite thing though is an app called Headspace. He teaches you how to meditate, and has a great voice. They used to have 10 free and if you want you can then pay for more.
Congrats Brutersmom on the improved lab work! Thats motivating to see real results!
i see a lot of exercise and ladies with multiple classes here this week. I was lucky to get in 2 walks at lunch on the 2 sunny days this work week. Yes its raining again.
-
Wonderland, there were several culprits. Please do X before you go on vacation. Yeah, I've had it on my desk for a month but I need it by Friday. Sheesh. Got a lot done today and more tomorrow then gone for a week. I may go for TM cardio 2nite but first must dig out some summer clothes. Woo Hoo!

Woke to sad news that Beth Caldwell, co-founder of METUP passed away yesterday. There are many women that have touched me deeply and leave earth much to early due to this shitty disease, Beth was one of them. Click this link - to her website to read how awesome she was: http://cultofperfectmotherhood.com/category/fucking-cancer/ and http://metup.org/index.php/a-tribute-to-beth-caldwell/
Falconer, I meditate early morning when no one is up, just about 15 minutes, sitting still or lying, eyes closed, relaxing every muscle with focus on breath. Ginger, pleased to read of your relief from itching.
This is going to be an interesting weekend for us. Tomorrow afternoon, DH and I are off on the highspeed to have a late lunch and afterwards, to the opening night of Aida at the English National Opera. I've never been to an opera and suggested we give it a go when asked what I'd like to do for my birthday, which is Sunday, and also Bonfire Night, a quasi holiday here in the UK. Anyway, I bought a new little black dress and shoes online, that have arrived and to my astonishment, fit perfectly - bonus! Not sure if I can take 3 hours of opera so DH said if and whenever I may have had enough, no problem with leaving - what a sweetie. Enjoy your Friday everyone!
Pilates mid-day at the gym and afterwards, seated tai chi fop Parkinson's in church hall.
-
I am so sorry, Lilac. She sounds like an amazing woman. That a wonderful tribute by her spouse.
Sounds like you have a fun birthday planned. Much happiness!
I subbed today, did a 30 minute cardio dance DVD, got a spray tan, and will soon be off to some basketball games. It has snowed all day & more is in the forecast for tomorrow. I think I have picked a good time to absent myself from the upper mid-west!
Here is a present for us all:
-
Evening ladies! I have been MIA this week. Got some workouts in at beginning of week. Had my final chemo yesterday. Celebrated with dinner out with our children and signing up for an online holiday exercise challenge I participate in every year. Starts on Nov 13th and ends Dec 18th. 6 fun workouts every week. Excited to have a plan! No exercise yesterday or today. Ran some errands, bought my first Christmas gifts of the season, had coffee with a friend, lunch with hubby and a couple Dr appts this afternoon. It was a busy day. Tonight I am at home watching the high school fb game at home on my couch with blankets. I live about an hour and half from Ruth, it's cold and windy tonight. My dad, hubby and son walked over to game. They can walk home at half time if it's real bad. Tomorrow I will be down on couch all day after steroids wear off and neulasta shot kicks in. My chemo experience went well, my side effects were pretty mild but I am happy this is my last time going thru the next day or 2 of yuckiness.
Have a great weekend everyone!
-
Congratulations on being DONE with chemo, Runner! AND on your football team's big win!
-
LilacBlue....I just LOVE the Coliseum!!! It's just so wonderful when you see the globe twirling over Trafalgar Square and you are on your way to an ENO performance. I am jealous, as my last opera performance was high on action and low on singing quality. ENO always has done it all for me. (I listened to Sir Thomas Allen which was highly therapeutic and restored my perspective.)
I am listening to 1930s recordings of Carroll Gibbons with the Savoy Hotel Orpheans on YouTube. Just the most delicious music. Love Anne Lenner. Gibbons is vastly underrated as a jazz pianist.
Got out for a walk in the first snow of the season today. Foretaste of great skiing to come. I am stoked.
I am so sorry about your friend. I am still feeling the loss of my childhood friend who was diagnosed with terminal kidney cancer 3 years ago. I got off easy.
Listening to "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". Swear that Tommy Dorsey swiped his muted trombone sound from this. Gibbons is far classier. Great stuff.
A girl can dream.... - Claire

Ladies, when we meet up in FL, I will have a bourbon in honor of Beth Caldwell. What an amazing woman!
Congrats everyone on accomplishments, persistence, and goals.
Today I'm doing last-minute chores including the dreaded packing. Will spend the night with mom as she's 30 mins from the airport versus 90 so I can sleep in a bit. That will help with a 6:30 am flight out of Madison = being at the airport by 5:30 am ugh.
-
Midway through my business trip and walking, walking, walking...and sitting, sitting, sitting.
Yesterday, was my most inactive day by work hours sitting since my surgery Sept 8! Which I guess amplifies how sad yesterday was, but how good I have been on being active since exchange.
Taking advantage of every break to do a 10 minute walk...and then a longer one in the evening...
-
Braved the ice-slicked roads to go to Wake Up Yoga, shoveled the driveway & sidewalk for about half-an-hour, did 15 minutes on the dreadmill, and will now commence with the packing. Badger, I have to be at the airport at 5:30 as well. The time change will work to our advantage this time!
-
This thread is were it's at! Pick Asheville NC for your trip one year! Such fun!
See the beautiful Biltmore House in the distance!
-
Finished the 1st week of a 21 day training program. Found some new muscles. I am tired. I ended the week with a yoga class. That was a good choice. What i learned this week is my lower legs are week and as a result my balance is not good. Will be working on that moving forward.
-
back home after knee replacement surgery, and my rehab so far is brutally good exercise. Using a walker, doing leg lifts and other painful things that are necessary to full recovery. Overall, though, I feel pretty good. Nice to rest in my own bed.

Good job, Oct.
Vargadoll, I was in Asheville one Christmas. Beautiful area!
