Behind again but enjoyed the pictures of Ruth's trip to Washington. It looks like you and Mary had a lot of fun.
Bareclaws I had some foot pain in the same area and the yoga teacher showed me how to stretch and hold and it went away - but it looks like you have already tried stretches.
I am in a pattern of one exercise session during the work week and then exercise on weekends. I have been working on losing weight and this actually does better for me. Down 3.4 lbs since Sept 20. Yesterday went for a nice walk but it was a little humid. Today it is simply beautiful, Carolina Blue or Door County Blue or Northern Illinois Blue and 75 degrees. Waiting on DH to get ready for a forest preserve walk.

Getting ready to start some new sewing projects and decided to vacuum the sewing room. Caught a thread in the beater bar. The beater bar stopped rotating. Long story short had to clean the beater bar. It was a mess inside. Today's piece of thread was more then it could handle. Works like new. That was a project.

Moving to a new city and state in just a few days so that will be close to the top of my list of things to discuss with new doctor. It should be a good place to address the issue as my new locale is chock full of runners. AND the worlds best painkiller.
I love the vacuum cleaner job! It’s never at a convenient time but fixing things like that is very satisfying.

In Philly. My SIL works for the Pennsylvania SPCA- she's their PR. So, this AM she invited me to Yoga for Pups, sponsored by Franklin and Whitman, a company that makes cruelty free skin care products. And part of their profit goes to shelter dogs. Check them out if you're interested!
Anyway, I was definitely the oldest person in the room. And there were 60 of us! I will say though, it pushed me beyond where I've been lagging in easyland to keep up with all the twenty year olds. Feeling pretty good this evening so I think I'm finally ready to move up a level in my practice. I think it's been 4 months since my recon surgery and ten months since I finished rads.

I can definitely relate to that Ruth!
I needed some serious stress reduction today, and didn't want to resort to Cherry Garcia, so hubby and I took off for a day trip to Yosemite NP (we are blessed to live only about an hour and a half away...). Here's my classic Yosemite shot. My iphone says I did 2.9 miles walking around the Valley. Given the state of my knees, I'll take it! Every now and then I'd find a bench and sit down while hubby did a bit more...so he may have gotten in four or five miles. Nothing wrong with sitting and enjoying the view in Yosemite however!
-
twohobbies, I had forgotten about door county blue! I used to live close to there, nothing against Yosemite!
brutersmom- if you sew and live in PA, have you ever been to Fabric Mart in Sinking Spring? TDF!
Got a 40 minute walk in yesterday. Then laid down to do 10 minutes of abs and leg exercise. I figured if I take motrin b4 bed I sleep better b/c the pain doesnt wake me up. I have a worker in today replacing all of the basement windows before winter hits. Once my endurance is better I want to find a per diem job on weekends to pay for tuition and house repairs. Our house is falling apart, but our kids got/are getting a good education!
Will have to wait for worker to leave before I go to the Y. Hey today is a holiday! NO school!
RE: Mortons neuroma. It may just be a shift in your alignment that is causing more force to be dissipated between your 2nd and 3rd toes, rather than most of it thru your big toe. Check and make sure you have good big toe joint mobility. I find when I get pain in that area, I need to replace my arch support. The improved arch support helps me take more weight thru the first toe. I get a Scholls OTC arc support and it works well.

2FUN. I love Fabric Mart. I work about 10 minutes away from the store. I just cut out a a blouse that I got there last week for $1.50 a yard. I will spend more on buttons then on the fabric. LOL
2FUN where are you in PA?
-
Octo, beautiful picture!
Falconer, I love your Yoga for Pups, and am glad that you are feeling more perked up!
2FUN, if you can help your kids get through school without an enormous debt, you have given them an invaluable present!
I totally zoned yesterday, took a nap (which I never do), went to bed early (which I rarely do)......today I will be back on schedule with Zumba & then will try out my more challenging yoga class (which I have not been back to since I had surgery the end of July)......I may be doing lots of Child's Poses, but that's alright.
If you want to see a picture of just about any monument, museum, memorial, Civil War battlesite between Washington, D.C. and Gettysburg, just let me know, I probably have it!!!

I spent the weekend doing retail therapy. I got a new bicycle helmet to replace the one that saved my head a week ago. I also am getting a major repairs on my bicycle. It seems to need a new crankset now as well as a general tune-up. Of course, this was discovered when I went in to have a flat repaired. I never did get a ride in this past weekend, but did my 3 miles of walking on Saturday on Saturday and a 5k run yesterday.
I have my bicycle, but expect the repairs to cost a nice chunk of change. I have also figured out which new cycling jacket I am getting. I have worn out that out as well, and I just saw something really nice in neon pink with reflective light grey patches on it. Really cool, flattering, and highly visible. I will be ordering that soon.
I found a gorgeous Prada black wool sweater on eBay. A nice V neck which has a touch of fur. It should be gorgeous, not to mention warm. I retired my old Prada cashmere which had holes in the elbows.
I think I have figured out where that consulting project check is going.....
I need to do a wardrobe edit as have a number of items ready for "retirement" and fortunately now have replaced many of them. Plus, my life is changing so that I seldom wear suits or jackets. I do need a few though, and I could use a black blazer. Clark's has some amazing black flats so I will be swinging by there too. I love my black patent heels I got there a few weeks ago. Just perfect and very wearable.
Not ready for the week ahead. Work on all ends plus mammogram on Wednesday. I am expecting all to be well. I will see a friend at the wine bar and pick up my wine club shipment after that.
Off to the races. And as inspiration to keep in gear, I will remember that Prada looks much better on a svelte figure than on a rotund one. - Claire

brutersmom, I live in western NY now. I lived in Allentown, but my territory was from Allentown to DC, and from reading to the jersey shore. I was ordering from fabric mart, but didn't realize I was driving by at least onCE a week! The reason I have no cash is B/c of my kids education and fabricmart!
-
Probably a good thing you did not realize you were driving by. The brick and mortar store in dangerous to the pocket book. I hear ya on the education and Fabricmart. Sewing keeps my sanity. It is my stress reducer. Although right now I need to re-adjust my patterns. That is a bit of extra work.
-
I'm adjusting my patterns not because of my foob, but I have no muscle tone after 8 months of surgeries (3 different cancers, and one suspected but b9) I was heavy before, but now I have a very pronounced menopausal body. Oh well, it gives us another brain challenge!

My DH and I had a wonderful week with Ruth and her DH during their visit to DC. As you can see by the pix Ruth posted, we did a LOT!! We got thousands and thousands of steps in every day (which of course were promptly undone by all the yummy dinners we ate!). I think Ruth and her DH crammed more into one week than most tourists do in a month. But the best part is that I get to see her and the rest of the Daytona gang in a month!
I have a mild Morton's neuroma in the ball of my left foot between the 3rd and 4th toes. It got somewhat better once I was off letrozole, but I've noticed it more since I went back on letrozole, so I think the AI probably intensifies the issue. Agree about the arch supports. I use SuperFeet supports in my running shoes, and that seems to help. I also try to wear shoes with good solid arch support - no cheapie thin flipflops. The other trick that really helps me is if I take a few minutes in the morning twist, squeeze, and use my thumbs to firmly rub the bottom of the foot before putting my shoes on. Something about manipulating the foot that way first thing in the morning seems to help all day long. I also manipulate the foot any time I change shoes during the day.
Falconer - love the Yoga with Pups idea! And Octo - what an incredible view. We drove through Yosemite during our honeymoon 35 years ago, and I still remember how breathtaking it was.
Back to my fitness class for the first time in 2 weeks. She did lots of upper body weights today - I'm going to feel it tomorrow, but it was good to be back.
-
exercise question....before BC and EC, I would work out, be tired and sore, then feel that " sore but I feel like my muscles are working " feeling. No matter how much I do, I never get that feeling, just generally fatigue. Anyone feel that way ever?
-
2Fun what kind of work out are you doing?
Today I did 45 minutes of weights and 15 minute on the elliptical. I keep a log of what I do. I am getting stronger.
-
Had a wonderful weekend with DD. Saturday was the best weather day of the 3, so we packed a lot in - visit to apple cider and donut stand, 40% off sale at Job Lot, local Oktoberfest, then dinner at our favorite restaurant. Sunday the girls went shopping, DD is 3 months pregnant and in denial about maternity clothes, so we found her a pair of stretchy work pants and a nice top for when she gets bigger. Yesterday we went down to the ocean and got clam cakes and chowder, then a quick stop to get her some new shoes before the airport. Made me sad to realize this is probably the last time we will have a visit like this, just mom and daughter time, once the baby comes everything changes!
Got a lot of walking in on Saturday, but the rain put a damper on that for the rest of the weekend. Getting ready for my trip to Ireland next Monday, it is so unseasonably warm it is hard to think about warmer clothes for the trip, but I really need to start digging them out.
-
i think I am very fortunate to survive chemo. In terms of exercise, I know I have to some weight bearing types. In the meantimd, as long as I walk about 3 miles I feel really good in everyway. However, if I do more than 4 miles my body screams,
I am trying to get back to swimming. Found a local senior ctr pool for $46 per yr. I am 8 yrs younger than min age so I will try to have exemption form by family doctor
-
Haven't been doing much in the exercise department except for housework. Since I am on a blood thinner and I have to see a cardiologist soon my hubby wants me not to do too much. Today was vacuuming the rugs and the stairs, clean the bathroom and wash the baseboards and walls in the bathroom as high as I could reach.
-
House work is LOTS of work (especially when you put it off like I do)!
Welcome, Castingame!
Pat, you and hbcheryl are out international travelers. She is in England (I believe meeting up with Lilac at some point) right now.
2FUN, it probably took me a year after I was done with 'active treatment' before I began to feel pretty much normal when exercise....it then it was still a process. And anytime you have surgery (on anything) it sets you back. After my hysterectomy, my surgeon said at 6 weeks I could be recovered 80%, but not totally until 4 months (think how bouncy I will be November 24th ).
Claire, please come edit my wardrobe. I have to keep subbing just so I can have someplace to wear the clothes I like to buy!!!
It was a nice fall day so borrowed the puppies and met up with a friend & her dog for a walk in the woods. I went to yoga tonight, but there was a sub who didn't seem to know what she was doing, so that was disappointing.
-
agreed that housework definitely counts!
Did 45 minutes in the pool today, followed by a short hot tub soak. I needed that.

My MO's nurse coordinator called to tell me that the PS got back to her and, yet again, provided no specifics. "Yes you can do strength training. Start out light." Which is......??? Sigh. But Lilac had some good suggestions for books that would help guide me so I am waiting on those to arrive. I'll read/research and get started on that. In the meantime, I'm building back up on my running and feeling pretty good.
2Fun, I don't feel that soreness from exercise after I run, but I know my muscles are used to that movement so maybe that's why. I haven't felt that soreness from my lower body strength stuff yet, though. I wonder if I need to up it somehow to feel that burn?
Castigate, welcome! I hope you get the waiver to get into the pool. Swimming is such great exercise.
Housework is a workout, I agree!
Pat01, sounds like a wonderful time with your daughter. Have fun in Ireland.

Hi Everybody! Just caught up on all the posts in the last week. Boy, we are an active group!
I have remained active, even with the rain over the weekend and horrid humidity that Storm Nate has left for us.
Yesterday was a sad day. We had to put to sleep one of our sweet 17 year old sister cats. She was so sick and I know we did the right thing, but it still hurts and leaves a hole in my heart for her.
To help me with my mourning, I came home and painted. Below are some of the pumpkins I dot painted for family and friends.
-
Today is my 3 year cancerversary. I am blessed and have been trying to up my exercise' Hiked all around the city yesterday with dd and her visiting boyfriend and got my pink breast cancer scarf and hat at our #AtlantaUnited stadium store. Hiked around our lake tonight.
Our giant Falcon wears an Atlanta United Soccer scarf for the home games.

Looking great, Scottie! Neat sculpture too!
cdv, they had no 'working out' recommendations when I was diagnosed, so I just had to figure it out for myself. What I did was to get some upper body exercise DVDs and first I did them with no weights, then worked up to soup cans, then 1 pound, 3 pounds, 5 pounds. If I felt a 'normal' sore (like you should when you work an area you haven't done for awhile) then I'd stay where I was awhile & move up. If I felt a heaviness or really sore, I'd back up a step. Of course, you need to be consistent. Lower body, abs......unless you had some surgery that affected those areas, you should be able to exercise them like crazy.
So sorry about your kitty, Wonderland. Having just been through the same thing in August, I know how sad it is. I still half-expect to find Henry sleeping on the bed when I come home. I love your 'cat and the moon' tribute pumpkin.
-
Scottie, you look FAB and wonderful on 3 years out NED! Pat, have fun in Ireland. Castigame, welcome! Wonderland, I'm so sorry for your loss. The pumpkins look amazing, especially the black cat with the collar stippling - all of it, purrfect! cdv, at pink pilates we use 1lb weights and we have a some 2lbs for those who are used to weights. Ruth is right, it's so important to start low and if wanting more of a challenge, up the reps in each set. The plan you devised M,W,F - run/walk C25k week 4; T,TH,S - elliptical, recumbent bike with one of those days being a rest day. Adding legs routine with squats and lunges and bands every other day, including very light weights for an arms routine - perfect. If you stick with this for three weeks to one month, you will experience improvement and know what direction to take to progress and possibly, what to knock back to digress. Just as recovery is not a straight line, neither is building up fitness. The key is consistency, sticking with it - building slowly over time.
I've been practicing and studying for a course I'm on in London this Friday & Saturday - called Move It Or Lose It. It's a training to certify to deliver their program for older adults who are chair based, standing assisted or free standing. It's for those who are older - 80+, to help with falls prevention and quality of life independent living issues, like getting to the toilet and stretching to dress ones self. This ties in with my previous course certification of exercise for older populations. Not many want to work with this age group but I do. This is not for gym delivery (a big step higher in regards to fitness ability), it's community based, such as a class offered in a village hall or care home.
Today, tai chi (as a participant, not teaching) in the morning, Pilates this afternoon and BodyBalance and Pilates in the evening.
-
Welcome Castigame
Wonderland, so sorry about your kitty. I love the kitty pumpkin too.
Lilac - you sure are a busy lady!
Such a gorgeous day here yesterday. After meals on wheels delivery DH and I went to an oceanfront restaurant and had some cocktails sitting in Adirondack chairs overlooking the water. Just so peaceful and soul fulfilling. It was my birthday, so we then had a light dinner, again at a table overlooking the ocean. Here was our sunset view.

After a nearly 5 week break (exchange surgery 5 weeks ago this Friday), I have been released to start exercise classes again. Over the past weeks my goal was to walk the heck out and not gain weight! Have made it and lost 3 lbs along the way...
Tonight start with a 75 minute Yin Yoga class. If that goes okay, next week will do 2 classes with rest between...then hopefully back to 3 classes the week after.
While "released" to do what I want...it is definitely released to start slowly and build up. My studio is a mix of yoga and pilates, so will try different classes, but doubt I will be up for a full Pilates or Vinyasa for another month or more.
I had pocket work at exchange and breast bone area is still sore just sitting here doing nothing but typing on computer!
-
Happy Birthday, Pat! Beautiful picture!
Here's the Walking Women this morning. As you can see, it is really fall here.
-
Wonder - I'm so sorry about your kitty. Love the pumpkin tribute.
Scottie - awesome picture! Congrats on the 3 year mark!
Lilac - the Move It course for the 80+ population sounds fabulous. Since I live in a 55+ community I see a lot of seniors at our fitness center. They are so inspirational, especially the "senior" seniors. They'll come in leaning heavily on their walkers, they need help from one of the in-house trainers or their home health aidesto get on the treadmill, and they're walking at probably .5 miles an hour. But they do it. I see them also doing weights and stretches. It might be with one or 2 pound weights and with limited range of motion but they're doing it. And they're there regularly two or three times a week. So many in that age group don't know where to start and need guidance from someone who will respect their abilities and their limitations, so your class will be life-changing for some of them. Good for you.
Ruth - your group is so bundled up!!!
Just back from the fitness center. One of the trainers help me design a weight training program that takes about an hour and I did it all the way through for the first time today. I have a feeling I'm going to be sore tomorrow but it's going to be a good sore.
