Let's Post our Daily Exercise

Today we enjoyed the U.S. Capitol, including a tour through our Senator's office and the chance to watch the Senate in action (since we are all newsies, we are now sitting here marking off all the ones we can identify). What a super-fun trip!
-
KB870 I hear yea. The trainer and a lot of articles I read say ignore the scale. Check your measurements. If they are getting smaller what you are doing is working. The gym I go to measures you once a month as a motivation. Loss clothing is great. I just bought new pants a size smaller. My pants from last fall/winter were baggy and I needed to wear a belt with them. That was a reward in itself.
-
hi all and welcome SusieM49. Love all the pix Ruth & Mary!
Just a quick post this morning as getting on time to hit the shower and head to work.
60 mins @gym last night, 20 TM and 40 weights==> 481 cal burned.
-
KB - congrats on the weight loss!
Well, the non-profit never showed yesterday, so DH and friend took truckloads of furniture and clothes to savers, and we are DONE! But what is the saying, it never rains but it pours? Day before yesterday another good friend had a heart attack and had surgery to put in a stent. He and his wife just moved out of their long term home last Saturday, and their new place isn't ready yet so they were staying somewhere temporary. Movers coming to the new place today! (And we were there yesterday and it doesn't look ready for furniture). So yesterday we were pressed into service picking up rugs from the cleaners, and today we pick our friend up from the hospital as his wife is at the new house. Take about stressful for them. But he will be in no shape to move furniture and rugs around, so I'm sure we will be helping them out.

Hi All! We are sitting in the airport ready to fly home from our Wonderful Vacation. Here is one last picture, we stayed overnight at Mary's cabin Sunday night (in between visits to Antitem and Gettysburg). Such a lovely, peaceful setting (no bears greeted us). I will catch up with everyone's posts when I get home.
-
Ginger so sorry you are still having to deal with the hives, I wonder what the underlying cause is I sure hope the "expert" can help you but unfortunate you have to wait so long for the answer.
Ruth and Mary so glad you were able to spend some quality time with each other doing such fun things.
My goodness Pat it really never rains but it pours for sure, what a good friend you are and I'm sure you are really appreciated for your kindness.
Welcome Susie, when you have to stop at a rest area just walk around for a few minutes and that will get your steps up and keep you moving.
CDV yay for doctors who take the time and listen, you have a winner.
Great news on the weight loss KB.
Last night went to Body Combat, was really looking to fob off gym but I needed to go to the bank, get gas and go to Kohls for some slippers so the gym is in that direction and I made it part of my journey. Fly to the UK tonight, one more job to do then shut my office for two weeks woohoooo - see you soon LB.
-
Ruth, I can't believe Mary talked you into a Nats sweatshirt! Oh darn, I haven't been following closely enough: just realized the Yankees beat your Twins in the wild card game :-( and actually, I am just teasing: thinking of switching my allegiance to the Nats for the rest of the playoffs....
pat, glad you are there to help your friend...heck of a way to get the exercise in!
I swam laps for 45 minutes today. Yay!
Octogirl
-
Octo, yes, sadly the Twins couldn't pull it off....., but now I will cheer for the Nationals during the playoffs with no divided loyalties.
We made it home about 4:00 after unusually smooth travels. I read the mail & zoomed over to my POUND class (I am not completely nuts, I wouldn't have gone except it is the teacher's last day before she has a baby (she is due NEXT WEEK!.....she was going to take the last 6 weeks off but got too bored so she came back).
Cheryl, have a blast on your trip!!!
-
I'm still not into an exercise routine. I'm trying to determine if I should be ok nor exercising since I am exhausted after work, or if I should push myself. How long after last surgeries/treatments did you feel like you had extra energy to exercise?
-
Got a 3 mile walk in yesterday. DD comes this afternoon, so looking forward to spending the weekend with her. Have a great weekend everyone!
-
Ruth, amazing instructor and love the photo in the new studio with new, beautiful, pristine sprung wood floor - I swoon! Oh and welcome home! 2FUN, how is your upper mobility since surgery? I found it took awhile for my chi to rise back up after being broadsided by the diep mac truck. Do what you can (weekends better..more rested?) and key is consistency (even if starting with weekend workouts) - slow and steady it will build. Pat, have fun with DD. Cheryl, lucky puppy call me anytime!
Pilates and tai chi for Parkinson's earlier this afternoon. Have a super start to the weekend everyone!
-
2fun- everyone is different. My advice would be to start slowly and do what you can. Even a short walk is better than nothing and then see how you feel after it. It will build up over time. Good luck.
Looks like you had a nice visit, Ruth and Mary.
Cheryl- have fun. Jealous you get to see LB!
I am in Portsmouth, NH visiting DD for the weekend. Hoping to get in some walking since I am playing hooky from Zumba tomorrow morning.
-
2FUN, I started a walking program with a slow shuffle to the mailbox & back. I've built up from there. Do what you can without pushing too hard as rest is crucial for healing.
Great pix Ruth! I see you brought GW to POUND. :-)
Safe travels Cheryl and pls give LB a big hug from us Sculpted Sisters!
Took mom out for supper 2nite. She had mac & cheese with cranberry-applesauce and I had almond-crusted walleye with fresh green beans. Mom was full but I had room for a piece of key lime pie for dessert. ;-)
-
I made it to the gym twice this week and hopefully again tomorrow. Really pushing weights right now. Love watching my clothes get baggy. Did exercise at a local department store trying on new clothes in a smaller size.
-
Tried to get a little caught up, walked two little dogs & went to a football game ("my" last class are seniors and I still know lots of kids from subbing). I am TIRED!!!!
Badger, yes, I thought George Washington would enjoy coming to class with me. In real life he was a GREAT dancer!!!
-
Ruth, you were so active and packed a whole lot into your trip. I'd be tired, too! I always feel like I need a tiny vacation from my vacation when I get home, lol.
Brutersmom, yay for that motivation!
2Fun, I think everyone is different because treatment and surgery affect everyone in different ways. I personally started off small with walking. It's a good exercise in and of itself. Your body will tell you when or if to do more. When I started to feel better after the walk than I did when I started it, I knew I could do more. I've learned hard lessons about doing to much too soon from running in the form of plantar fasciitis and a stress fracture before this diagnosis, so I err on the side of being conservative.
Ginger, enjoy your visit with dd!
KB, I'm glad you had weight loss vindication, but you bring up a good topic because I am still getting treatment also and that is calculated based on weight. So if the scale is not accurate, how do you know? And I'm not sure how much weight loss could cause a problem because the weight range could be large before a dose should be reduced but you never know. I'd definitely bring it up at the next treatment especially if that scale is still not showing a loss.
So here I sit with the tamoxifen still in the bottle. I'm not sure what time of day to take it. This is probably not the right plaice to post this, but some of the other threads and boards get very depressing and scary, so I'm limiting where I read here. I've heard some people take it at night, others mid day, others in the am. My onc didn't give me any information and the pharmacist was a young girl, very new, and said she hadn't any info other than the handout, which had no info about it. I guess I can put it off for a few more days and call the nurse coordinator Monday.
Missed running yesterday because I went out after work with some friends. So I'll run today and do something extra tomorrow at the gym in addition to my long walk/run.
-
Exercise has been on hold again because of fever/headcold/chest cold, but just had to get out in the fresh air today. Walked about 5K steps --- slowly, enjoying the fall colors.
-
cdv, do NOT even read those threads!! Remember the people who don't have problems are, quite naturally, not the ones who are posting. Experiment with what would be the best time for you. I took my arimidex in the morning just because I always got up at the same time, so I would have a better chance of remembering to take it. I also bought one of those daily pill holders, because it got so routine that some days I didn't remember if I took it or not, if "Saturday's" slot was empty, that meant I had taken it.
I eent to yoga this morning, which felt extra good after traveling.
-
Chris, I took tamox for five years without too many SE. How flashes and night sweats were the most annoying, but easily dealt with via layered wardrobe and omni-present fans. Did get foot & leg cramps, and still do from time to time. My DH says to drink dill pickle juice (yuck), but I'd rather just walk it off.
Probably not supposed to do this but I take all (five of) my daily pills first thing in the morning with my coffee, which I ALWAYS have. Like Ruth, I bought a pill holder so I could be sure I'd taken them.
Brutersmom, I too have baggy pants & love it. Want to buy new but holding off as still on a downward trend.
For some reason, got up super early on my one day to sleep in. Did errands and now a nap, then the gym.
-
Yoga class this morning & now off to Philadelphia for the weekend with the DH and DSs.
Cdv- I am not on Tam, but like everyone said, what helps is that I take my AI the same time every day. Weekends and holidays mess me up sometimes bc I don't always get up as early. Hope you find your comfort zone with the meds. -
I take another med every am, so I take my AI B4 bed
-
Last night I finished hemming my new pants. Bought inexpensive pants for work and I really wonder if they will last the winter but they fit. Had to do it. Badger, I really hate when the crotch hangs to low. Will work on tops another day. They are always a challenge because I have a broad back. Today I worked on the final cleaning or my rental unit. Had a cleaning lady do the worst of it. I didn't want to pay the price for the tub and the stove. Then I went to the gym. Made it through 45 minutes/ Better then I thought I would do. Will be going back another day to try something different on the stove.
-
I haven't posted here in a while because I've been so busy. I just finished week 4 of taxol and I moved last weekend! I went from a rather large house to a still nice sized, but more manageable house. Unfortunately, all my stuff had to come with me so I've been unpacking all week and still have so much to do.
I've struggled with fatigue, I suppose due to chemo, but have managed out of necessity to get at least 10,000 and up to 28,000 steps per day just cleaning and unpacking. Today I walked around town a bit and noticed I couldn't walk as briskly as normal and I'm just soooo tired.
I'm not sure how to balance rest with pushing through since I know exercise and drinking lots of water seem to be the best way to cope with SEs. Anyway, I'm looking forward to life slowing down a bit now that I'm in and getting settled. I miss my morning walk routine
-
If you have been 28,000 steps you would be super-tired, with or without chemo. You deserve to crash a little once you get settled!
Oh, my pregnant POUND teacher, who taught class on Thursday, had a baby boy this morning.......we are making bets on how soon she'll be back; for some reason, I think it won't be long!
-
Brightness, I felt easily fatigued during my Taxol treatments, too. I did what I could to move during the day in the form of walking, which did make me feel better, but it didn't mean at the end of the day I wasn't tired. Do what you can but listen to your body. The 12 weeks will be over before you know it, and you will start to feel better and able to do more. Moving is so much to deal with let alone in the midst of treatment. 28,000 steps is huge!
Ruth, you are right, I don't want to cause myself more anxiety reading about problems when most people who don't have issues never post.
Thanks for the input, everyone. I'm going to start next weekend. I need to mentally prepare myself and there's a very stressful week at work coming up. I don't want to be preoccupied with this stupid med right now. There's never going to be a perfect time, but this week is not going to be good anyway.
So, great week in all. Got all my exercise in. Long walk/run tonight after the dinner dishes are done. I think I lost a pound and a half, by my scale. But, like KB, the digital scale at the treatment center didn't show anything. So who knows. A pound doesn't make much difference in how my clothes fit, so I'll have to see how it goes in the coming weeks. I feel good though. Same plan for thie coming week: M,W,F C25k week 5; T,Th, S some form of cardio with one of those as a rest day and Sun long walk/run day. Lower body strength work 3 days and something light upper body 2 days.

I have a problem and am hoping someone here can recognize the symptoms and tell me what they did to overcome them. For over five months now, I’ve had a “bruise" on the ball of my right foot, behind second and third toes. It started between Taxol #4 and #5 (I iced feet for all 12 treatments), after a morning of shopping with family, wearing new Birkenstocks (bad idea) and a longer-than-normal run at a faster-than-usual pace for me. I’ve always been a barefoot runner, but Adriamycin and Cytoxin gave me hand/foot syndrome for several weeks and my callouses completely shed, so I started wearing minimalist shoes. The “bruise” has not improved, despite now wearing traditional shoes, icing, massage, rest, all manner of foot exercises. Today I am trying Rock Tape on the bottom of my foot, wrapped around to the top, but can’t say that it feels any better. This sounds like Morton’s Neuroma, doesn’t it? I’m so distressed about it! I want (and need) to push my runs, but this is holding me back. Anyone
-
hi bareclaws, there are a couple of people here who've been dx with Morton's neuroma. Hoping they can shed some light.
-
Bareclaws. You don't have anything in you profile. Do you take any anti hormone medication? I injured my foot while taking Arimidex. Injured a tendon. I had to stop the drug for my foot to heal.
-
I'm supposed to start AI's any moment now, letrozole I guess, but haven't yet. This is another worry, re my foot. I am currently getting Herceptin and will continue until spring. I gained about 11 lbs on chemo, but have lost most of that . The weight gain probably contributed to the foot injury, too.
-
bareclaws, have you asked your doctor about it? Maybe you need to see a sports medicine person?
cdv, I finished radiation on a Thursday, took my first Arimidex the next day (Friday), and started a hectic new school year that Monday. I thought it was good to start during a really busy schedule because then I didn't have time to think about it/dwell on it very much.
I am taking the day off to finish up trip pictures etc. I feel like might be getting a little post-travelling cold, so am going to have one day of babying myself!
