Let's Post our Daily Exercise

Ruth and Mary, you guys look great. Ruth, way to have an inside Capitol connection. Badger, bummer for bum toenails. These are a perennial problem for me as well although haven't been sidelined as a result because I use open toes for dancing. Hehe. My running shoes are oversized but I think I will go have a doctor look at my toenails because it has been a long time. Falconer, spectating, lol.
LB, 4 hours is a long trip. If DD were to go away for uni she'd probably be just an hour away.
Cdv, hope you can get into the next session. In the meantime, walking is great exercise.
TH, thanks for the review. Thinking of getting an instapot too.
Ran 3K yesterday and did some kettlebells in the gym.
-
My son is 700 miles away for his freshman year . ...wish he was closer. As I always enjoy his company. He'll be home for Christmas, and we will be out there for Thanksgiving.
He ran crosscountry in high school. His school sponsors the country's 3rd largest meet in the US. It was held this weekend. 8800 high school runners from the US and Canada. And we worked the course all day yesterday. Had great weather, I got 7K steps in, and I stood all day to make sure the runners stayed on course.
I still wish I felt better. I have follow up appts with MO and endocrinologist this next month, so I'm hoping we can get my body into a better equilibrium.
-
Ruth & Mary, you look great and having so much fun. Nice to see the Washington Monument without all the scaffolding.
In my 20's I dated a triathlete who had perennial issues with his feet. While he was semi-proud of his black runner's toenails (eew), I have no desire for that so-called badge of honor. I found this article helpful. https://www.wellandgood.com/good-sweat/running-rx-what-to-do-when-your-workout-wrecks-your-toenails/
Going to wrap my toe and hit the gym today but not push myself to go so fast and so far on the treadmill.
-
Ruth, Mary, great pictures! Looks like so much fun has been had. When hubby and I go, I'm putting a river cruise on our list.
Badger, Heidi, I've run since 2008 and never had toe nail problems. Chemo has given me 2 wonky looking ones. I am hoping they get better but might check in with my podiatrist to see if there's something to keep them from turning into a problem. Luckily they are not bothered by my running shoes. I'm might try a different brand of running shoe anyway for a wider toe box. I've got some neuropathy in my toes, which I hope goes away, but I want to make sure I don't do anything to hurt them in the meantime. Badger, that article is really good, thanks!
2fun, my daughter looked at colleges far from home. I started to steel myself for her to be away and home infrequently. It's hard. She ended up going a different direction and is happy with her choice, but the school she wants to go to for her masters far from home. And my younger daughter is looking at art schools, none of which are near. I'm taking every opportunity to keep spending time with them now.
Did great with my plan, was able to get each day done. Today, I'll get a long walk/run in. This week is going to be much the same: M,W,F - run/walk C25k week 4; T,TH,S - elliptical, recumbent bike with one of those days being a rest day. I also do a legs routine with squats and lunges and bands every other day. I've added in some very light weights for an arms routine.
-
OMG, love the photos of Mary&Ruth with DH's; you guys look terrific having fun!!! cdv, you have put together a well rounded plan to not only keep your fitness up yet that plan will raise it. On your dates of tx for 2017, specifically the surgery, did you have any more lymph nodes removed? The hand weights you are using need to start at a light, particularly if you have had a full clearance of lymph nodes. PM if you'd like, I'd b e happy to help. 2FUN, I miss my boy and it's good going on standing around: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/wellbeing/diet/10913737/Stand-up-three-hours-a-day-for-benefits-of-ten-marathons-says-top-medic.html hope you feel better soon. TH, I want one of those cookers - awesome - thanks! HeidiHill, you are doing quite a bit and the uni DS was to attend was a hour and half away, on the other side of London - sigh. Nice to read you back in the water KB870. Badger, I'm missing something about having a black toe nail yet hope that hassle to getting to the gym is now cleared. Falconer, wonderful for the breakthrough! Took me 9 months to get up dog back and I cried when that happened.
Good news on the grant we submitted for Pink Ribbon Pilates - we got it! I'm on the lookout for a location for early evening to open a free Pilates evening class to add to our Monday daytime class - that will make the working women happy. Pilates this morning and sofa surfing on my laptop this on/off rainy afternoon. Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!
-
Welcome Leesa.
Mary and Ruth you look fabulous, so glad you are having fun together. I had never heard of the Instapot but boy sure looks like something I could use, I am one of those people with good intentions but then I get hungry and just eat to satisfy my hunger, I honestly think heads of lettuce just go to my fridge to wither away.....
A-boob In Soul Cycle, do you really stand and spin your towels around for most of the class as that's what I've seen so I don't know if it's for me - I am a woohooer but on my terms and that is what I don't like about UJam, all the screaming 'single single double' it just cringes on my nerves but other people love it.
I have fallen off the exercise wagon this past week as I have been crazy busy and working late each night, I did go to the gym yesterday and did a Body Combat class, my first class since Tuesday which is unheard of for me but I need to clear my desk before my trip. -
Taken from my backyard this afternoon. Air show at the beach this weekend so we've had 3 days of amazing precision flying by the Blue Angels ooeeee are those jets noisy but what a credit to their military training, absolutely breathtaking..
-
Ruth and Mary - great pics! Looks like you are having a wonderful time together.
Well, the yard sale was a success, but boy am I pooped. We made over $1300 dollars and that doesn't include the bigger ticket items we sold on craigslist. Waiting for a call from the truck from the non profit that is supposed to pick up the remaining furniture and clothes. Bit of a communication issue, he gave me a 6 hour window, I told him no one lives there and we will need to drive there to let them in, still waiting for him to call me back. Then a quick clean, mop, and vacuum, maybe one more dump load, and we are done! My friends sister returns today, and the closing is Friday.
Been getting a bit of exercise in on days I haven't been at my friends house, mostly classical stretch and 3 mile walk. Prayers for all those affected by the Las Vegas shooting. A friends nephew and girlfriend were at that concert, he's with the state police here and aided victims, so glad they are both OK.
-
hb Cheryl - I've never stood and swung my towel around in soulcycle. Every city and every instructor is different. I recently moved and prefer my old studio which was a full body workout and the coach rode with you the whole time. New studio coaches seem a bit burned out, and they walk around more while you cycle and talk a lot of zen. No matter what, it's still a good workout and guaranteed sweat session. But I doubt I'll go to my local place much longer - too expensive and not a good match for me - a bit cultish and sorority-esque. Luckily I love my local Pilates studio and get a good full body workout there. Just need to do something else for cardio. Running is boring and hard on knees. Will checkout gym later this week. I'd love to just do stuff at home, but I'm kinda lazy, and the pull of the couch is stronger than the yoga mat!!
-
Lilac, congrats on the grant! You deserve it.
-
LB: Great news on your grant! Have I told you lately what a saint and inspiration you are to me?
Badger: Ouch! Your toe! Hate you are having this problem.
Ruth and Nats: Great pictures and thanks for sending the cool weather, Ruth.
Pat: Congratulations on your yard sale! That's impressive. So glad your friend's nephew and gf are ok.
Cheryl: That is quite a picture!
Annoying: Hope you find a gym that is a better fit for you.
(((Las Vegas)))
Hi Everybody! We finally have cooler weather (for now) and I'm loving it! Walked/ran yesterday and today. Refreshing.
-
I have been missing all the action. I just skimmed through 8 pages.
Week 5 of itchy hives for me. Allergist wanted me to see a specialist in Boston and earliest appointment I could get is 10/23. Tried lots of meds that made it worse, including antihistamines, steroids and even the nebulizer treatment. Now taking something that is minimizing the worst of the itch during the day but I am still very itchy at night. The summer temperatures of last week were rough in school. Better this week. Not able to exercise with the intensity I am used to but I am getting in some Zumba and aqua running.
Welcome to the new people.
-
Hi All, we have been touring, touring! I will have to catch up and send out some pictures when we get home.
-
Oh Ginger, your hives sound horrible. Sorry you have to wait so long for your appointment.
Well, the non profit that was coming to pick up the furniture and clothes has cancelled twice! Now they say tomorrow morning. The closing is on Friday, so if they cancel again we will need to bring stuff to the donation center ourselves. With that in mind, we are going to take a pickup truckload of household goods to Savers today. We called around to other non profits, but none of them pick up furniture, and we just don't have enough time for estate liquidators. Fingers crossed for tomorrow morning.
I did get my 3 mile walk in yesterday and classical stretch, so I guess that's the upside of them cancelling.
-
Hope you find relief soon for your hives, Ginger! Itching can be worse than pain!
Although out of town for a conference last weekend, I managed to at leaat walk 6K two days and 13.5K one day --- cloudy but not rainy weather, and beautiful fall colors in the parks
Yesterday SPS (Spiral Stabilization) for my bck, and just got home from tonight's Pilates
Have a good day, everybody!
-
Ginger: Hoping the allergist can give you relief from the horrible hives! Wish you could see someone sooner.
Tessu: I had to look up what Spiral Stabilization is. Sounds interesting. Hope it is helping you.
Beautiful day here - Carolina Blue Sky, temps in the 70s, low humidity. I pushed mowed for 90 minutes and later walked/ran. Just delightful!
-
Great job, everyone! I read often and get motivated by you all, even though don't post much.
Just got back from a two-week vacation in south of France and Spain. My husband and I carried our running shoes with big running plans. Of course didn't use them even once! It is always the case, but my fitbit steps were off the chart, so there was some natural exercise thrown in.
-
We spent a very interesting 13,000 step day at Mount Vernon.
-
Mary and I may leave DHs for an older man (200 years older to be precise ).
-
love the pics, Ruth, keep them coming!
I am so behind but will try and catch up. I did manage 45 minutes of swimming today!
Octogirl
-
Ginger, I feel for you <<scratching>> Hope you find a solution soon.
Ruth, who is that man in the middle? (Pardon my ignorance of 250 year old men.)
LB, congrats on the grant!
Walked with a friend along the lake this morning.
-
DH and I are having a wonderful time with Ruth and her DH, but I do think Ruth shouldchange her avatar pic to the Energizer Bunny!!!! We've been everywhere and seen everything - from a fort built during the French and Indian War to Antietam to Gettysburg to Mount Vernon, plus Ruth and her DH did the D.C. monuments and museums. Whew!
The 200+ year old fellow in the middle of the pic was at the restaurant where we had dinner last night. It's an historic restaurant where Washington, Jefferson, Madison, etc. often dined (Gadsby's Tavern). The fellow was in period costume and was quite the raconteur, engaging with customers, teasing them a bit, and really recreated what it must have been like back then when good conversation was an art form. He also was a wonderful musician and sang a beautiful ballad for our table. And the food was fabulous!
Off to the Capitol this morning for the private tour Ruth arranged with her Senator's office - she and DH are quite the VIPs! We'll peek into the Library of Congress afterwards.
-
KB: I know just what you mean: between pics of WWW (Ruth's group) and of their swim center, I've been tempted to move to North Dakota! (too bad about their weather...)
Knee surgery is scheduled for November 2nd. Counting down the days. This is a relatively quiet week, next week I have more pre-op appointments and then a short consulting gig down in LA...
Heidi, I think the gentleman in question is Benjamin Franklin...funny thing is, he is my husband's hero, and my hubby even looks a bit like him (certainly as much as the guy in the photo, though he'd need to die his hair..). Where was the pic taken Ruth? Perhaps a retirement gig for hubby? :-)
The weather is finally cool here at night and in the mornings (54 when I woke up at five today). And gorgeous during the day. Fall is often the best time of year in California. We are thinking of sneaking up to Yosemite this weekend....sad that I can't walk much. Might try biking through Yosemite Valley though.
Hugs to all, Octogirl
-
Oh Ginger, fingers crossed the specialist in Boston can clear the hives. ErenTo, way to go on being off the charts with steps! Pat, like how managed this liquidation; not easy. Octo & KB870, good going on the swimming. Wonderdland, went and picked a load apples yesterday before sunset with my pink with yellow wheels wheelbarrow as it arrived that afternoon and had to try it out. Cheryl, are ya winging over here yet? Ruth & Mary, love seeing the sights with you both.
Thanks HeidiHill and all who commented on getting the grant. Fundraising is exhausting for a teeny-tiny grassroots charity like Pink Ribbon Pilates and nice to have a year to expand without having run ourselves into the ground to do it. We are very lean and don't need much and Monday we had about 11 show up for class. I think the Boy Scout hall that we meet at for our day class will let up have a early evening slot, so watch this space.
Sami Mansfield, whom I greatly admire does incredible work in helping so many to exercise towards cancer wellness: https://www.instagram.com/p/BZyv5E_lDR5/?taken-by=cancerwellnessforlife
BodyBalance this morning as I subbed for a laryngitis suffering instructor and with two Pilates and another BodyBalance class to complete this day and evening.
My thoughts and heart felt love and support are with those affected...remembering the victims.
-
Great pictures Ruth and Mary!
Took a pickup truck load of stuff to Savers yesterday from my late friends home, then cleaned all but one room. Non profit should be there shortly, we hope! DH and friend are handling that today, as I am scheduled to deliver meals on wheels. Came back home and mowed the lawn for 45 minutes, so that was my exercise for yesterday. Weighed myself this morning, I am losing a little weight, but my waist seems to be getting bigger! Seriously, my "fat" pants are getting snug, and was so surprised to see I've lost 5 lbs. Need to start some core exercise to try and keep that in check. I picture my late mother, skinny arms and legs and a great big barrel for a torso, I am turning into my Mom! My daughter (11 weeks pregnant) is coming to visit for the long weekend, can't wait to see her.
-
Hmm...from Mary's description maybe he isn't Franklin, just a 'period piece' guy?
I think the only thing missing from Ruth's itinerary is a Nats playoff game, if she and her DH will be there long enough :-)....I bet that is a very hot ticket though, especially playing the Cubs....Glad you all are having fun and that Ruth and her DH are seeing all the sights: DC is one of my favorite cities! (And I will be there for a few days in May, Mary, if you want to catch a Nats game...)
Octogirl
-
Octo - absolutely yes on the game in May!! I'd love to meet you and share a game.
Ruth was not going to leave D.C. without seeing a game, so along with everything else, we hit the Nats game last Saturday! ⚾️⚾️
-
Well done on the weight loss KB870! I know this is preaching to the choir, yet this very recent article is excellent: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/oct/03/exercise-depression-disease-death-sit-less-move-more
-
KB, yay for the actual weight loss. That had to be maddening to have seen nothing on the digital scale at the doctor's office.
Back from Herceptin treatment this afternoon and my MO appt. she said she would call the PS and nail him down on if I have any restrictions and if so what they are. She could see it was distressing me to not have the info. She did pressure me to start tamoxifen so I just gave in. She told me weight gain was not a side effect and that I gained weight because I "treated" myself or allowed too much comfort food during treatment. Neither of those things is true, but it appears I'm going to have this same conversation each month when I see her. I decided I will start and if there are horrible side effects, we will deal with that. My reasons for delaying are valid, but she's not going to acknowledge them so there's no sense discussing things that have not happened yet.
I'm off to run. That helps settle my mind and clears my head.
-
Hi Everyone!
It's so nice to hear of the ways you're all taking care of yourselves. Mary and Ruth, you two look great together, and I'm so happy to know you're having a good time! Octo, glad to know you got out for a swim and cdv, that you can clear your mind with a run. KB, great news on the weight loss! Pat01, you've had so much happening, you can give a little to yourself! Anyway, mowing the grass is a great workout. Lilac, thanks for the links, always good info. Heidi, glad you had a nice walk with a friend.
I had a thirty minute yoga workout this afternoon. Trying out a chiropractor who specializes in active release technique. Saw him Monday and felt good afterward. Now it would be nice to have the time to go twice a week as he recommends. Ha!
