Kay, you are going for it and your training is paying off - well done. Thanks Cheryl and I think that was the pose I saw on Corey's instagram clip. I have quartiles at the end of this week. Ruth, I did it, I'm now a POUNDPRO and have spent a small fortune on ripstixs. No doubt I feel it today with a full day of POUND, yet enjoyed the training and think this is a super workout, that includes rage of motion, for pink ribbon ladies - perfect. Patoo, just found online Pickleball at a Y about 20 miles away. Love to give it a go. Off to type up lesson plan for pink ribbon later this am and more coffee to get this somewhat sore bod moving.

Congratulations, Lilac! I bought my own Pound sticks and decorated them with colored duct tape so I wouldn't lose track of them (neon pink & yellow).

Meeting a gf for a walk this afternoon...so it should be a good walking day. I haven't seen her in forever, can't remember the last time we walked!! We used to be co-workers several years ago...
Baked banana chocolate chip walnut muffins (always do when I have over ripe bananas) and chinese almond cookies. This recipe doesn't make very many, the batch I made last week is gone, but that's because I gave away at least a dozen. Hope to get lots of cooking baking done this week as DD has a request for 4 different types of Mom's cookies to bring her. I'm sure I'll be crazy busy after Thanksgiving and I leave in a month from today. Since I'm taking the last day of work off, I'll need to make it up on a Friday. Starting to put together the things she wants me to bring. I don't think I'll have a problem keeping my stuff to less than 35# since she has quite the list.
Be back tonight. Have a good day. .

Workout tonight

Exercise today was running around getting things we need for our trip this week. Saw the ortho this morning and they will be scheduling another lumbar epidural in the next few weeks. It sounds like bi-annual lumbar epis really my thing until I get the courage to have back surgery, which I'm avoiding as long as I can -- hopefully 10 or more years.
Looking forward to some gentle hiking this week, walking about and getting back on the treadmill as my back will allow. Maybe some light weights too.

Yes, Lilac, I like to spice things up if I can!
.
Totally busy, crazy day. Zumba & yoga tonight.
-
Completely off the exercise wagon lately except for lots of work around house while home on 'staycay'. Basement cleaning (move furniture to dust, vacuum, then move it back, and then rearrange furniture after dusting and vacuuming are all done). Sorting through the accumulation of clutter and made many, many trips hauling junk and donations up the stairs and out to the garage. Hauled two sets of patio furniture inside and downstairs for the winter (big basement).
Had 6-month onc visit on Friday with NP. Looking forward to 1-year countdown to finish arimidex. NP is fairly certain my MO will NOT recommend another 5 years for me (early stage, very low onco-typing score, no nodal involvement and double mastectomy rather than lumpectomy).
Also had dexa scan this morning and radiology tech said my numbers were 'awesome' so yay for that. Official results will take over a week but her comment makes me happy💪💪💪.
Sleep well my sculpted sisters and have a great Thanksgiving if I don't check in again before that😘
-
A busy day of teaching, correcting papers, recording grades etc. etc. etc. I went to yoga tonight & did an indoor walking DVD at home.
-
Didn't get my morning walk in today, so decided I would walk to see Mom. She lives about 3 miles from me...power walking it took me about 45 minutes each way. Much easier walk this time of year than in the heat of summer.
Struggling to make a decision on where to stay when I visit my daughter next month. Its now between 2 places...one is much less than the other but its not as nice....not sure which of the 2 is closer to daughter. Not much available in my price range a month out!!! Then I have to buy my travel insurance.
I have daughter's list of what to bring for her....She has two bags of clothes in her room, but not sure if she wants/needs any of it....I can't believe how much I bought her that was more than she needed and we both forgot about...some of it is new and unopened...all online purchases. I think I'm going to get my luggage out and put it in the spare bedroom and start putting her stuff in it as I get it.
I've officially taken over all of Mom's bills...I need to get them sent to me instead of her....I'm now also putting her pills out for her weekly. It breaks my heart that she can no longer to these. She really has lost all her independence. I hope I can manage it all. When I'm gone, my DH will have to put her meds out for the week (well 2 weeks).
Took the turkey out tonight to defrost...hope its defrosted by noon tomorrow so I can start brining it...Then I can cook it late morning on Thursday.
Sweet dreams...See everyone tomorrow!

Happy Thanksgiving prep, everyone!
Congrats on the dexa scan, sweet! Lilac Blue, kudos too on being a poundpro.
Karen, that is a sad transition for you and your mom. Great walking pace, on the positive side.
I was thinking of buying a portable stepper for the winter, but ended up buying another exercise machine for a bit less money. The goal now is to be able to do 60 proper push-ups by my 60th birthday next year. Maybe also run a 10K.

Hi everyone! Back from the neuro-oncology conference and Grand Canyon adventure. Both were marvelous, albeit differently.
First the conference: Our founder & CEO was honored by Cure Magazine as a GBM (Glioblastoma, brain cancer) Hero, so had the honor of being at the dinner and sharing that amazing moment. Fran Dresher was the keynote speaker and extremely funny and moving about her own experience with ovarian cancer. Otherwise, conference was extremely interesting with emerging therapies and experimenting with combinations of existing therapies, frequently repurposing existing medications for use in treating cancer. I got to hear presentations of emerging research tied to Cancer Moonshot 2020. One tidbit of note is that most cancer takes 8-10 years to develop from the initial genetic mutation.
Scary that I sat in on a lecture on treating patients and actually understood what was being presented. I got chatted up by a researcher who is developing an anti-tubulin that could be a potential replacement for current taxanes. It has the added advantage of crossing the blood-brain barrier which would greatly help in preventing brain mets and is far less toxic than either Taxol or Taxotere. It will go to clinical trials in a couple of years.
I am so glad that I took 3 extra days to visit Northern Arizona and the Grand Canyon. I loved Flagstaff which is really Old West and a stark contrast to Phoenix which is a post-modern sprawling mega-city with no downtown. Lovely, but to me lacks a sense of place. Flagstaff has a colorful place and a vibrant downtown with pubs and restaurants. The university dominates so tons of stuff to do. Just the most gorgeous scenery. I splurged for a bed and breakfast so stayed in a historic building. The breakfasts were divine as was the century-old claw foot tub.
Most importantly, I was directed to the "secret spot" for viewing the Grand Canyon, a mile walk in and then a hike out to the point. A bit scary as major cliffs. This selfie should give you an idea of what I mean.
The next day, I wanted to see Sedona, but since I had brought Seattle rain with me, it was pouring when I arrived. I was able to enjoy Oak Canyon and the rock formations, even if it meant fording some poor drainage areas, and navigating around a boulder (police were directing traffic). I carried on to Jerome as saw blue skies in the distance. What a fascinating place! It is now done up, but nicely so, retaining much of its original character. Of course, I had to visit the tasting room, and brought home a bottle of "bad girl wine", a delicious blend called "Stiletto".
Then, I climbed up to the Grand Hotel and took in the fabulous view. One place I would love to stay someday.
Not having had quite enough adventure, I drove over the mountains towards Prescott, but too late to stop there on my way back to Phoenix. Had to find my Airbnb, but unfortunately, I failed to notice that it was set to "bicycle" so guess where it tried to send me??? I eventually caught on, and navigated to the place via streets, seeing a lot more of Scottsdale than I intended to see!
Glad to be home now. Uneventful trip back, but want to point out that Uber is offering a holiday free ride with American Express and Seattle is one of the cities, so ride home from the airport was FREE!!!
All my Airbnb stuff went well, so would definite recommend as the interesting and cheap way to travel. You can rent cabins near Flagstaff which would be fun to do sometime. Just the most glorious scenery...loved the upland stretches of grazing area.
Need to get back on the exercise wagon as feel the absence of my weights and crunches. Did enough walking, but can't wait to get on my bicycle and catch up on exercise (even if I get wet). Speaking of catching up, life and work wait for no one, so glad I have 5 days to do this.
Happy Thanksgiving!!! - Claire

Claire you trip sounds wonderful and also very interesting on the cancer battlefront. Heidi what a wonderful goal - I can't do pushups on my toes as a number of years ago I broke three toes on one foot and they still bother me, but I'm a dab hand a knee push ups. Great news Sweet, I also had my Dexa I had improvement since coming of the AI but still have Osteopenia in my right hip, this doesn't surprise me as my Dad had 3 hip replacements so I guess it's in my DNA.
Been crazy busy at work, everyone off on vacation and dropping last minute stuff on me but it's all good. Monday night went to Body Jam and last night did Grit Strength and CX Works then came back to work and stayed till I couldn't keep my eyes open.
-
Exercise today was sweeping and mopping the kitchen floor for tomorrow
-
Great trip & picture, Claire!
Busy school day, made a salad to bring with tomorrow to DHs family in South Dakota, and went to Zumba.
If I get up early enough, I will do some toning tomorrow. If not, it will just be eat/visit/play games/repeat
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. One of the many things I am thankful for is YOU!
-
Popping in to report that I managed to get in two walks since the weekend - just around 30 minutes each. Well plus the walking all over Costco and then all over Target today!
Happy Thanksgiving to all! I am also so thankful for this team of motivators! You not only keep me exercising, but its a happy, positive place to come visit!
-
Claire, your trip sounds wonderful. I've used Airbnb several times and its always been a good experience. DH just booked a place on Airbnb. i find it much more reasonable than VRBO when looking for a small place. I'm waiting to hear back confirmation on the place I want to rent for next month when I go visit my daughter.
Got to get up early, no sleeping in till 7:00 like the past couple days. Doing all my cooking tomorrow.....not making that much, but its coordinating what goes in the oven when. I think I'll make the pies, stuffing and yams in the morning and cook the turkey in the afternoon. We are taking Thanksgiving dinner over to Mom's and we'll go around 5. I am bringing all the food plus a bridge table and a couple chairs. Mom didn't want her evening aide to come since its Thanksgiving so I have the job after dinner of getting ready for bed.
Have a great tomorrow.

Fell off the exercise wagon at diagnosis 7/2015 and have not been able to push myself to exercise regularly alone at home (except lots of walking). So I finally bit the bullet and went backto Pilates Monday. Did not die, so I went again yesterday (special classes for back and neck problems, my "old friends" from before bc). Ouch ouch ouch --- but yeah, no pain no gain, and SO much easier to keep moving when everybody else in the room is continuing with the routines. What got me started was a series of five free upper body ROM and strength building classes the Finnish cancer society gifted out local bc group (third class tonight). Couldn't have come at a better time --- planning to return to work January, and definitely need to rehab before then.
-
Nice report of your conference and trip to Grand Canyon, like the photo too Claire. Tessu, welcome and like the class your cancer society sponsored. Rest Ruth, you deserve it! HeidiHill, I'm roasting a turkey are you?
Happy Thanksgiving sculpted, lovely women!
-
Hi Teesu, glad you see you over here. We will 'pump you up'.
I am up early, and instead of exercising I'm sitting on the computer drinking a cup of coffee (with cream, no less). I will double-exercise on the weekend but am going to goof-off.
Karen, to me, it is the coordinating of the food that IS the work. Especially on holidays that require carving a turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, things you have to do all at once at the last minute (although I finally got smart, mash the potatoes early & keep them warm in a crock pot....that saves a big last minute job).
I believe I shall have another cup of coffee before we head off for Thanksgiving Fun. Have a great day & again, I am so thankful for you!!!
-
Hoping to get in another ride in the rain prior to cooking the feast. I have guests coming so should be fun. My former intern and her husband. Not doing quite the traditional menu as had planned Cornish game hens, so just added an extra as I want leftovers.
Rest of menu is parsnip soup which I made last night, yellow turnips, Romanesco broccoli which I will roast, and Potatoes Anna. Pumpkin custard for dessert (actually some of the squash I froze which is what you get if you buy pumpkin). I made cranberry sauce last night. I will also be stuffing the birds. I season with fresh sage, onions, and celery.
Amazingly, I missed long supermarket lines as had planned most of this in advance. But I tried to do trail parking near Whole Paycheck yesterday and not a spot to be found. I don't think they were out cycling.
Happy, happy Thanksgiving everyone, and this is one day where one SHOULD eat too much!!! BTW - also thankful that Florida was spared the wrath of the fiery meteor which crashed to earth, fortunately in the ocean, not Tampa. - Claire
-
Welcome tessu.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, so thankful for BCO and the wonderful friends I have made here.
This morning did Body Pump and Zumba now to shower and get changed and head out to my friends to eat, no traditional turkey for me, not when she also serves prime rib and lamb
-
Had a lot of excercise with flying about in the kitchen like a crazy person while making the big dinner. Glad to have had my mom here to lend me a hand with the cooking and clean up

Gmmiph....love the first one....seen the 2nd one before but its true!!
Welcome Tessu
Ready for my mid-day walk. Walked before lunch. Pies are done (1 each pumpkin, pecan), stuffing, sweat potatoes, cranberries. Turkey is up. Just have to make the green bean casserole but will do that so its done just before we leave. Have the good and card table and chairs ready to go. Hope we can carry everything in one trip each!! Taking dinner over to Mom's then after we are done will go to a girlfriend's for drinks.
Got the sweetest thanksgiving thank you from my daughter in Israel. She also sent one to DH. some of the same thing in both letters, but most individualized for each of us. i think she is feeling homesick today cuz its Thanksgiving here. I am lucky to have great kids!!!
A lot to be thankful today....my husband, my children, my mother friends, my "family" here on bco...but I sure wish we could have met on different circumstances. I haven't had the good fortune to meet anyone on this thread in person but I've met others and we have become good friends.
Happy thanksgiving to all those who celebrate!!
-
Gmmiph, add hot flashes and I'm really toast.
Great pic and adventure, Claire!
Lilac, I didn't see any turkey, but I didn't look too hard. Had a headache and mouthache from the dentist so had sushi for dinner. Maybe they will be selling turkey breast today at the grocery.
-
45 minutes of toning, cleaned the house, took the grandpuppy for a long walk (it is unseasonably gorgeous), and started on the Christmas decorating.
-
Long dogwalk in the park yesterday (wind and drizzle finally stopped for awhile), but skipping exercise today, because I woke up with my back pain and sciatica flaring big time. Possibly set off by carrying my 18kg dog up the stairs yesterday evening --- she needed to "go out", but couldn't make it up the stairsherself, and husband wasn't available at that moment. No worries, should settle in a couple days or so, and the pain meds are working (finally!)
-
Building concentration instead of muscles --- working on mycounted cross stitch Christmas ornaments
