Welcome KB870! Just do what you can during chemo, it will help you bounce back better & faster once you are done.
Yikes Karen, sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now,
Still cold, gloomy and slippery around here. School, Zumba and Book Club......all fun, and boy am I tired now!

KB870. welcome and well done on the swimming post chemo! M0mmyof2, doing great! This is recent research that came out this week and might be of interest to some of you: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/314420.php The data (in the article)by sports:
<Once the analysis had accounted for potentially influential factors, differences could be measured between the various sporting activities. Compared with participants who had done no exercise, risk of death was:
- 47 percent lower in those who played racquet sports
- 28 percent lower in swimmers
- 27 percent lower in aerobics
- 15 percent lower in cyclists.
Perhaps surprisingly, cycling, running/jogging, and football/rugby were not associated with any kind of protection from cardiovascular disease. When joggers and runners were compared with those who did not run or jog, there was a 43 percent decrease in risk of death from all causes and a 45 percent reduction in cardiovascular risk; however, when confounding variables were adjusted for, this effect disappeared.>
Working on POUND and BB tonight

Calves are sore from the excercise today
-
Dance Attack & half an hour on the treadmill. I'm trying to convince myself to do some toning (it's not working so far!).
-
Welcome KB870: Good luck with your treatments. Interesting to hear that you are doing the Concept 2 Challenges. My cousins design, manufacture, and sell the ergs. They are wonderful people and so down to earth. Years ago I visited them in VT when they were just starting the business. They did it all out of their barn!
The last couple of days I've been in Raleigh, NC with dd. She had some job training there and didn't want to go alone. Yesterday I walked/jogged on the treadmill at the hotel. It was so hot in the room and I was dripping sweat. Last night we walked all over at a mall.

Wrapped up a big project due end of Nov so took the afternoon off in comp for hours worked last weekend. Was going to walk to the library but cold rain and the siren couch lulled me to nap. Lovely rest day. :-)
-
Welcome KB870. My goodness Karen you sure do have a lot going on, you know what they say "if you want a job done right, give it to a busy woman" they sure have your number - be kind to yourself. Congratulations on getting your project finished Badger, my warehouse looks like the paper fairy threw up everywhere, I have such a mess going on mostly mailing 2017 calendars for businesses they are my once a year clients but luckily they keep coming back. LB looks like I'll have to take up tennis again!!!! Enjoy the time with your DD Wonderland.
Tonight did Body Combat class, last night Spin and Tuesday was Body Flow it sure is hard going out once I come in on these cold evenings.

working out tonight
-
7th inning stretch break this afternoon. Oxygen is the best brain-booster there is.
Supper with mom tonight, as most Fridays. She says hi all and thanks again for the gift cert. We are planning an expedition next week to include a stop at B&N. The final book of a Nora Roberts trilogy just came out and she's held onto the first two books - unread - until now. LOL I can relate! Someone gave me the first five Harry Potter books in a paperback set. I didn't read them until homebound with flu one winter, then read them in four days. Bought book #6 in hardback and read it in a day then had to wait A YEAR for book #7. :-)
-
A LONG day, with 30 minutes of pilates squeezed in at 10pm.
-
Several dogwalks, and also a bit of snow shoveling (slowly, carefully, half-shovelsful). Waiting to see whether that flares my LE..
-
45 minutes of toning with Denise Austin & off to POUND in a few minutes.....playing catch-up from being a working girl!
-
LOL Badger, I can relate I bought a Maeve Binchy hardcover years ago and I have it "put up" as I knew she would be gone one day and I would still have one to read, well her DH keeps releasing her work so I've still got it "put up". Fingers crossed for no flare tessu.
Last night drove to San Diego for Body Jam, so worth the drive as I love to dance with the group down there. -
And this is the reason I drive to dance - who wouldn't want to spend Friday night dancing with these two!!!
-
I grew up about 8 miles from the Concept2 HQ. I also know people who have worked there. My family has lived in the area for almost 200 years, and still do on the other side of the mountain, with distant cousins living in Morrisville/Morristown. The company was formed after I left the area (they also manufacture canoes nearby). Vermont has the same outdoor culture as here in Washington State. The local hospital is renowned for orthopedic surgery. My late wonderful friend and cousin Kathy worked there as an x-ray tech. She did a lot of broken bones. And she had more than her share, most horse-related.
Things are hopping here. I have a meeting in a couple of hours so have to go in. Stayed home yesterday as have to take blood pressure meds after all. I did a run, but didn't drive. I thought the worst thing that could happen with a run is that I would have a soft landing in mud. Hoping to get on my bicycle later today and do a real ride tomorrow.
On the subject of running, my new shoes came yesterday, and I am here to put in a plug for TRACTION. It really is a wonderful thing, making less work and increasing speed. So a major step forward. I will toss the ones with the hole in the sole under my right toe. Really happy to buy online for $40 and not $110.
I think too early this weekend, but I think Stevens should be open for Nordic skiing next weekend. I can't wait!!! 10 miles of that does wonders for body and spirit. Hopefully, I can get to the Methow Valley this winter at the height of the season. I would love to do hut skiing one day, but requires more organization than I have. Perhaps, the local cyclists are going. I should ask, but they tend to do weekday.
So much cool stuff to do, so little time. - Claire
p.s. Especially since I may get a research report-writing gig for over the holidays. Hopefully, will be a bit less busy than last year at that time. What I needed to do financially and professionally, but I do admit to liking a bit of time off. However, without those projects, I wouldn't be as able to do the startup work I am doing now, or at least not easily slide into it. So it really does all work out.

Here is a picture of some of the Saturday POUND ladies.
-
Ruth, nice! Is the lady on the R one of your WWW friends?
Chilly today but sunny. Got in a 30-min walk by way of three laps around the neighborhood park path. Also put up holiday decorations. Wrapped greenery around the front porch railing and decorated with small red glass balls to look like holly berries. Pretty! We don't do a tree anymore but have some small seasonal items yet to unpack. Also cleaned out 'my' dresser and swapped out t-shirts for turtlenecks.
-
No, although one of my WWW friends does take the class but wasn't there today.....all the Christmas 'stuff' makes everything hit & miss (the weather is supposed to get really cold next week, so people are out to the stores in force today).
-
Winter has hit Denver this week!!! Wednesday the high is forecast for 20 as the high!!!! It might be snow pants for my early morning before walk!
Made the decision yesterday to have my mother move to the smaller more hadicapped accessible apt. She threw the decision in my lap. She has an electric wheelchair on order (who knows when it will come!!) and I talked to the OT as she wasn't sure it would fit in the new apt. Lots to do to move mom. The independent living community will move her furniture for free, but I will need to take the fragile things. Also Mom will have to choose what artwork/pictures to keep as she won't have as much wall space for them all. I need to go threw her clothes and take about 75%....she doesn't wear most of the the stuff anyways....both here bedroom closet and hall coat closet. Not sure where will put the linens as she doesn't have a linen closet in the smaller apt. She has a great desk that probably won't fit, so I'll put it in my garage for now with all of my son's furniture!! Only room for 1 car right now. The thing that I'll miss the most is the gorgeous view that she has..a view in two directions of the city....new apt looks at a parking garage!! Tomorrow I'm meeting a couple gf that I haven't seen since early summer, then I'll go to Mom's and start taking stuff!!! Wish my luck.
DD left me the sweetest voice mail telling all about her Shabbat and how amazing it was..It sure bridges the distance. I leave in 18 days!! (not that I'm counting!!).
Well, I best get busy doing my weekly online banking and pill paying and then look for the needs I need to gather for the new apt (bank statements, w2's...all the fun stuff).

long walk around the neighborhood and through the park today....heading to swim tomorrow. can't wait!
-
Yikes Karen, I hope you & your GFs have a DRINK. I think you need one for medicinal purposes!!!
-
Cheryl, you are amazing to drive that far and can see you truly enjoy LM classes. Yes to tennis and wonder if golf has some of the same benefits? Have been wondring how busy you are in delivering before the 25th. Ruth, love seeing your POUND class - so cool and see your big smile holding bright taped ripstixs . Not easy to learn as it's sheet music and video clip online (our awful broadband connection comes and goes out here in the hinterlands and can't download it - only fire walled online) to learn from and I'm still learning the different drumming moves, (rain press, rainbow, bass kick, etc..). Feel a bit of a dolt in trying to get a couple easy level 1 tracks down for Pink Pilates tomorrow, as it's our last class until the 9th of January. I'm sticking with it and my pink rock rebels are looking forward to trying POUND. Claire, looking forward to your Xcountry photos. Karen, you have a lot on your plate before leaving.
Today is trim the tree day and POUND practice. Have many substitute/cover classes each day next week. Aim 1 next Saturday and printed a copy of the workbook LM sent and studying up for that as well.
-
Woke up to a winter wonderland. Finally, the first good snowfall of the season. Could get up to six inches. Dispatched the first three to make the next three easier. 45 mins Shovel & Sculpt. Really like how the snow looks on my green & red decorations. Glad I did that yesterday.
-
Today is my no workout day. Been busy in the house with other things though
-
Add another 30 mins Shovel & Sculpt. Snow is tapering but still coming and folks are out & about. First there was a single fat tire track, someone on a mountain bike, then it was prints of boots & paws, my neighbor walking her dog. So got the next three inches off the sidewalk. DH can tackle the driveway and whatever the snowplow leaves behind.
-
We also have the winter wonderland going with the snow sticking to all the trees. Gorgeous. DH and I went for a 45 minute walk. Very pretty and now its motivating me to get my tree out and up. .
-
None of the white stuff here yet. Can I request that we don't get any this year? It is pretty, but I hate it. No tree up yet either. Next weekend I think.
Actually jogged (or wogged may be more accurate) for 4 miles today! Slowing down a bit made a big difference because I was really struggling the last couple of times I attempted it.
You do all inspire me! Thanks for the motivation.
-
Did an hour of spot toning. Here is a little before and after picture of the kitchen.

First day in I don't know how long that I barely got 10K steps in....really didn't have a proper walk today
Met one girlfriend for breakfast and other for lunch then got my haircut and went to Mom's. Tonight was a surprise birthday party for a good friend who is turning 70. One of her daughter's flew in last night and surprised her with a visit. She knew they were going out to dinner tonight, but she was shocked when she saw all of us there!! it was a good time, but that's mostly cuz I was sitting with another close gf...across from my was her son and another friends son who I have know for over 20 years and he is now a dad with 3 kids....its the first time we've really talked in years!
DH is supposed to be going to S. FL for a business trip till Thursday....it will be in the 50's tomorrow and maybe 20 when he gets back on Thursday. We're playing musical cars as the car my son drives is at the mechanics with a broken water pump. If neither DS or I can get home in time to take DH to airport he will just take Uber. I'm driving DH's company car and DS is driving my car!! Mass transit is not the best in Denver...DS is too far from work to the take bus..it would take him a couple hours, and I need my car at work as I have to go between a couple schools.
Better make up time walking tomorrow for my lack of walking today....really messing with my average!!
Night and sweet dreams.
