Amen, Kathleen. I used to work with a woman who always would say that when she was at the end of her life, she was certainly not going to regret not spending more time cleaning her house!
-
Good to be back on too, have started a couple of times but then its difficult to send when someone is shouting "mom, she's touching my clothes in my closet!" and "mom I"m hungry" (uh honey I just fixed you something to eat and if you don't mind I'd like to take a few more bites of my food before I'm fixing your second dinner.)
Just realize the only reason I've been able to get a little time to get on before is cause hubby is usually home and I get to post while he's keeping the kids occupied. He's been gone for almost a week on a conference trip but should be back tonight. Ok, gotta run cause I'm getting poked in the arm and hearing "mom, I don't have anything to do and mom can I have another snack...." Do boys eat this much even?????
-
Aw, mom.....
-
Kathleen,
So true! My neighbor has a perfect house. It's immaculate. Two kids who aren't allowed to have friends in the house cuz it might get dirty. Is this how people really want to live??? Not me. My house is clean, sometimes messy, but filled with happy kids. They drive me crazy, but that's there job!!
-
Ok back, dd is taken care of so I have a minute to post.
Linda I remember a couple like that. They had the perfect house, pure white carpets, immaculate, museum immaculate. Instead of impressing me though it made me sad for them.
-
On the other hand you can't just let it go to pot either. There was a woman on the news whose neighbors (nice neighborhood too) noticed rats hanging around the house. The authorities finally went in and the place was a pig stye. She had kids so not sure if she lost them because of it, but things can get out of hand if you go the other way too.
-
Mom, Every now and then you hear about a house like that....rats, yuck! I wouldn't want a house like that. A lived in house is best!
-
You should have seen the beautiful neighborhood it was in. Guess she just got overwhelmed or something. But you had to feel sorry for the kids eating and living in a house like that.
-
I used to laugh and say that if the dept of health came into my house, they'd close it down. I've had mice (which is why I also have cats), but no rats and no roaches.
-
bunnies..... I'm just feeling so helpless about Saint and so many others.
Thanks to everyone for adding their prayers to the various threads.
I just called her house, but no one answered. She always told me to call, and if they didn't want to talk they'd just let the machine pick it up.
So no new news.
Welcome to the new non-cleaners. Mizzz it's great to see you!

Hi ladies, Gosh you girls have been so unbusy (is that a word) it's wearing me out.
Linda can you send me some of that rain? Here in South Texas it is HOT and we have cracks in our yard you could loose a small child in.
I am starting a huge project so anyone with any advise I could use some suggestions. My almost 19 year old son is moving out and I am switching his room because it is larger with the girls much smaller room. That way I have a guest room or a place for him if living on his own doesn't work out just yet and the girls will have more room.
Heres the problem. We painted his walls a deep blue (he wanted black) a few years ago. The girls want the room hot pink and orange but I'm worried about the blue bleeding thru. I asked the guy at the paint dept. at Lowe's and he looked at me and kind of grunted and shrugged his shoulders. I took this to mean he didn't have a clue.
If I put kiltz on it will that keep it from bleeding thru or do I need to just change out the sheetrock? I thought this would be a fairly easy project but have been told by several contractors that this is more than I want to tackle. I can't really afford to hire a contractor and would like to do this with just help from the guys on the major stuff and me and the girls doing the painting. Anybody have any ideas?
-
Kiltz is for mold and mildew not as a primer. You need a very good primer not an expensive mold killer. Get a gray primer, not white as you are going to be painting hot pink anyway and don't want to have to start that off from white. The contractors obviously want your money! What 'major stuff' do you need them for? Do NOT change out the sheetrock! Wow they have you confused.
The blue is paint. It, if nothing else, has sealed the sheetrock for you. Now you just need to prime it out. Medium gray. Then go nuts on the pink and orange. You will need two coats. If you didn't prime, you'd need 4-5 coats. That's the only difference. With the primer, you're painting the walls 3 times.
Please let me know what other info you need. This is my specialty! I'll be glad to help you for free!
-
The staff at Lowes are paid by the hour. Now y'all see why it's worth paying someone on commission! (Best Buy are by the hour, Future Shop are commission. You get a LOT more of the right info from someone who has a vested interest in what you need!) The contractors don't want to give you the easy answer for free! They'll just make it look hard so they come out the hero!
(You can tell I feel pretty passionate about my commission sales position! heheehe)
-
Barbe. Is there anything you're un-passionate about?
Your passion is your best feature. IMHO.
-
That's what makes me good in sales...as long as I believe in what I'm selling, I do very well..

Whew, Good Morning Everyone. I just read 4 pages of posts on this thread and I "think" I was on here yesterday about this time. I remember something about swans and ducks - actually took one of the Duck tours in Boston and it was LOTS of fun. My son was moving from that area and we had seen most of the sites, so decided to do the duck tour as our last thing before he moved away.
Prayers go up for ((( saint ))) and for (((( all )))). You are right, barbe, about a primer. The previous owners had painted the closets DARK green before we bought our house. Not that a closet has to be a light color, but ewwww. We used 2 coats of primer and never put a "finish" coat and it worked great. AND if you want to kill the smell, put a bucket of water in the room with several drops of vanilla extract in it. Replace the sheetrock... NO NO...no need to spend that kind of money.
IF you wanted to, you could paint one wall with "blackboard paint". it is like a chalk board and you can draw and decorate to your hearts content (with chalk, of course). Barbe can give you more info, I am sure. I wanted to paint the door to my son's room with it, but DH vetoed it.
I "cleaned out" my purse last night at midnight - does that count for today? Had change rumbling around in the bottom and several used kleenexes, so it was time for a "red out", as they say in PA Dutch country.
HUGS for everyone. NO housework on a Saturday, right? LOL. Nancy
-
I was hoping you would have some new news about Saint Faith.
Jane, I just LOVE your kitty with the 'bug' pic. Of course I like ladybugs too.
Can't remember who on the previous page has a big house but heck..........I'd be moving if I couldn't keep it going the way I wanted to. We moved last fall to a (somewhat) bigger house but way less land. Instead of mowing 10 acres we do 1/3 of an acre. Gardens are small and managable.........it's great. The house...........well, it's not pristine......but I can keep it under contol at least. I too would love to have a cleaning lady...........
Prayers for Saint today.
Edit to add, and gentle hugs to all.
Arrrrrnie?
