Sheila, your plate sure is overflowing right now, you and your family are definitely in my prayers.

Went for my lab work today. At my onc office. They are stepping up my chemo to every 3 weeks instead of 4, poo. At least I'll be done in July instead of September. One way to look at it.

    Anyway,

yes, it's too cold today, more snow and I'm done with it, too ready for the warm weather.

Wow, Sheila!  When it rains, it pours.  I'll definitely keep your dad and MIL in my prayers.  My MIL had the same surgery that your dad is having, about a month ago.l  Unfortunately, she had some complications, but she's doing much better now.

Cheryl, you're so talented!  I love both the paintings.  I think, in the long run, you'll be glad that they shortened the length of time between your chemo tx's.  I had mine every three weeks, and it worked out pretty well for me.  And YES, you'll be done sooner!!!

My birthday dinner was wonderful!  I ate like a pig!  Judie, my mom puts mustard, onions, bacon, and pickle in hers.  She'd never heard of anyone adding orange.  It sounds kind of interesting.

    Love and hugs to everyone,

    Karen

Nettie, I had Neupogen shots as well.  I opted to inject myself at home rather than go to the cancer center to have a nurse do it.  My husband was totally squeemish about it, but I didn't have a problem doing it.

My dad has been having back/hip problems for several years. 2 yrs ago they replaced one hip and that seemed to improve his pain but not for long. He finally got to an orthopedist who specalizes in spine problems and dx this problem with the spurs. He tried several other treatments (pain management/cortizone shots) but the relief didn't last long.

The snow from this morning is melting quickly. Tomorrow the roads will be icy because of all the water on them.

Not sure if you will be able to see my picture.  I took this from my kitchen window this morning.  See why I want to go to FLA.  Cathi, do you have any extra rooms??

Your backyard looked like my back yard at 6:00 am this morning. My son had me take a picture of his truck this morning, he still has his Hawaii plates on the truck and to see the truck covered in snow was so funny. I emailed the photo to my niece who is on deployment in the Gulf area. She was complaining in an email that she felt she was missing winter. I told her look at what you are missing.

Makraz, you have a really pretty yard ... well, once the snow melts I"m sure it will be. Undecided

Ok, here's a painting for today, this one is a still life, names Precious Memories and each is done to order depending on the child's favorites and hobbies. My granddaughter has this one in her bedroom. The photo took it darker than it really is but I think you can still see the ballet slippers in it and all the different toys. My favorite is the slippers:

Yes I do have extra rooms, but you better wait a day or too, while we don' t have snow our temps have turned chilly again (I proably should not say this) only around 62, but we do have a very brisk North wind. By Wednesday back to mid 70's and the weekend @ 80.

I'm glad you like my work. When I finish my granddaughter's drawing, I'll post it, too.

Quick update, my dad went into surgery about 6:00 pm last night (emergency surgery for heart bypass on another patient delayed his surgery) and finished about 8:30 and in the room by 10:00 pm. Everything went well, kidneys seem to be functioning well. May be coming home tomorrow. There was some concern about his kidneys, he sees a renal specalist after his hip surgery, his kidneys didn't want to 'wake up' and had to have a dialysis to filter out the anestesia to wake them up. We were praying that it didn't happen again since he is diabetic on insulin and possibly leave him on dialysis permenantly.

Most of the snow from yesterday has melted leaving ice patches in the 20 degree temps this morning.

Praying for your dad Shelia, hopefully the one dialysis treatment will do the trick,  I remember those days well with both my parents as they both went through renal failure from diabetes.

Cathi, his kidneys seem to be working well this time, the problem with them not waking up was from the last surgery he had in 2006 when they didn't want to wake up and we were scared the same thing would happen again. He drank plenty of water last night and everything is going well now. My husband's uncle and grandmother went through renal failure from diabetes also.

Diabetes is a tuff thing, my dads kidneys were doing ok until he had to have his leg amputated because of gangarine, the anestesia and contrast from a dye they used for a scan just shut them down, crazy disease.  That was a crazy time, my mom was in the hospital recovering from open heart surgery and unknown to me my dad developed a sore on his toe, he didn't say anything for days (and he knew better -just worried about my mom), finally after about 5 days he showed my nephew his foot, and it was to late to save his foot/leg. So like you right now, I had both parents in  diffrent hospitals, the hospitals were about 10 minutes from each other but about 45 minutes from my home, I went back and forth everyday for over 2 weeks. My parents had to give up there home after that, they lived in a 2 story with bedrooms upstairs and only a half bath downstairs,  my dad never got a prosthesis for his leg, he was just to weak to support himself on one.  Sometimes we do get alot dumped on us, but I don't regret one minute of assisting/helping/loving my parents . I sure do miss them.

Sheila, I'm glad your dad's surgery went well.  I'll continue to pray that his kidneys continue to do well.

Do any of you watch The Bachelor?  I haven't watched it in several seasons, but started watching again this season because the bachelor is from Seattle.  Last night was the finale and I cannot believe what Jason pulled!!!!!  He had asked one girl to marry him, and six weeks later, on the After the Last Rose show, he broke up with her and asked the "runner-up" to give him another chance.  I really liked the girl he had originally chosen.  I can't believe he did that to her!  She has had a rough time in the past with men, and now she's been hurt again!  Stupid jerk!  If I ever see him on the street in Seattle, I'll kick him in the shin!!!!!!!!!!!  GRRRRRRRR!

I don't watch that particular show but on GMA this morning they mentioned about something strange happening on the show last night. I didn't know what it was.

I spoke to mom at lunch and she said that the therapist has been in and had dad up and walking. Mom told the nurse, 'he is walking without pain and having to stop and catch his breath!'. Dr Geissele said that alot of times this surgery provides immediate relief and she is seeing it with dad. The Doctor will be in tomorrow morning to see how well the therapy is going and release him. the therapist asked dad if there were steps in the house. when he had his hip surgery, they built a 'platform' to take him across the sunken Florida room to the back door and once in the house there are 2 steps up from the den to the kitchen. They put large barn door handles on either side of those steps as hand rails when my grandfather was living there and had problems with the steps. so he is set up at home for handicap living.

That's great, Sheila!  I'm so glad he's doing so well!  My MIL had to go to rehab for a couple of weeks before being allowed to go home.  The reason was because they have stairs as well (not one, but two sets), and she couldn't get around the house.  She's morbidly obese and still can't manage the stairs, so they set her up in the daylight basement.  My dh thinks she isn't trying and says she likes the attention and for people to feel sorry for her.  I think he's being too hard on her.

    Hugs,

when he had his hip surgery, he spent a couple of weeks in the rehab section of the nursing home my grandmother is in, then he was able to come home and had home therapy 3 or 4 times a week for at least a month. When they added the 2nd bathroom to their room (about 10 yrs ago) they put in a walk in shower that the shower stool fits in and a higher seated commode with handicap bar next to it, preparing for the eventuality that they would be needing the handicap assistance. When my grandparents were living there, we built a ramp up the steps to the front door to the main level of the house to assist my grandpa. It has since been taken down due to rot but is easily enough rebuilt by my brothers.

Fumi - great to see you back here and thank you so much for your great photos - they are SO beautiful!

Cheryl - I am completely blown away by your paintings! You are very talented. Your dear son - I admire him for his perseverance & for helping you around the house.

AnnW - good luck with your DIEP/GAP decision and surgery. I have considered DIEP - maybe one day. Sorry to hear about your neck and hip pain & hope the therapy brings you relief.

Nancy - glad you had a good celebratory weekend. I agree - small, cosy, well-modulated music and good conversation beats loud, yelling clubs for me!

Makraz - what a pretty snow photo. Your back garden looks lovely. Although I can understand why you and everyone else want spring, flowers and warmth again.

Cathi - my thoughts & prayers with your daughter for her baseline mammo etc. I can understand her fear but it's sure to be fine.

Sheila - so glad your MIL is doing well and hope your Dad makes a good recovery.

Karen - sounds like a great meal your Mom cooked. I have a horrified fascination for those arranged romance shows on tv. I don't know how real love can be achieved under such conditions! How much of it is real and how much is directed? We have a show here called "The Farmer Wants a Wife". I watched it for the first time last week. Two or 3 young women are sent to each farm. Understandably, the farmer wants a wife who can help him (or her - there is one woman farmer looking for a husband) but most of the contestants are from the city and wouldn't know one end of a cow from the other! Last week, shortly after the women arrived, one of the farmers got them to test his cows to see if they were pregnant. I won't go into detail here about what they had to do....!!!

    Love to everyone,

AE -5 Degrees -OH my, I grew up in that weather, but I just could not do it now, just no way, the temp dips below 75 here and I am frozen, this is the only time of the year I like hot flashes -LOL.

Thanks Jane, I know my daughters baselines will be fine, she is so nervous and scared, her appointment is March 20, I will go with her.  Of all the things you want to pass on to your children, strength, wisom, love etc, I hate that BC has joined that list.  Her daughter (who is only 5) has a double hit, both I and her paternal Grandmother have had BC, but I just know there will be a cure before she ever has to worry about such things.

FYI EVERYONE -Don't forget to set your clocks ahead this Saturday night, I didn't realize ubtil I just watched the AM news.

    XOXOXOXOXOXO -Cathi

Cathi, yes I have seen these before but it did me good to see them again. Isn't she just the cutest little darling?! Watching this always makes me smile and brings a tear to my eye. I wonder if she ended up winning the competition? There was also an incredible Border Collie dog called Gin who performed amazing tricks with her owner on this show (Britain's Got Talent).

Youtube - I could spend days on it!
