EWB, yes it runs in the family. I'm a graphic designer and her father is/was an illustrator (not sure what he's doing now, except NOT making any money, so it could still be illustration, LOL). A word of warning to your son: illustration is a dying art. There's so much that can be done with photos in Photoshop these days, that art directors are shying away from illustration. In the eleven years I've worked at my textbook publishing company, we've only commisioned an illustrator once for a cover. We use stock for everything else. The only interior art we commision are maps.
Of course, we're college textbooks, so there's less illustration than school level. There's still some editorial work for magazines and newspapers, greeting cards, cartoons. But even the mainstay that my ex husband used to get work from all the time, romance novels and science fiction, have developed mostly type-only designs with small spot illustrations that can easily be changed around to suit the story.
Concept art has more of a market, I suppose. The less specific in nature (more abstract), the better. Good luck to him.

Sue,
I've had a sinus drip for over a month now. The post nasal part gave me a cough for weeks. I think it's finally starting to dry up, but I've literally had this since I was in my last week of rads (ended 10/13).
It makes me think of old novels where someone takes to bed with a cold for months. I've never had anything last this long.
-
Sue - in the states there is a bug that seems to last forever. Allot of the girls at work had it last for over a month. Maybe you have the same thing?
When are you going to the doctors missy????
-
Nancy- thanks, I think he is most interested in combining traditional/old style with newer tech, esp computer. Did you go to Pratt? Dear family friend went there in the late 70s- early 80s.
Hope all are feeling better soon!
-
Hi Sue,
Yes I am still sick, thought it was getting better, but today completely under the weather -a total coach potatoe, I saw my GP again today, he says it just takes time, my body has endured alot the past 2 years and it has finally kinda "broke down" for awhile -my resistance is very low, the antibiotic he gave me last week really didn't do anything much, mainly as he said because I have had so many doses the past years, rads, tamoxifen, 4 surgeries with general anesthesia, and all the locals - I gotta admit it is a bit frustrating, feeling well from the mastectomy and this stupid cold is hampering all I need/want to do foor the holidays.
OH WELL SUCH IS LIFE.
FEEL BETTER -XOXOXOXOXOXOXO -Cathi

EWB, No I went to Syracuse. I wanted more than just art school. I loved being able to take my elective classes in other disciplines just because I was interested in them. And I wanted a campus environment. Although SU is in the city, it's kind of set off by itself on The Hill. Lots of dorm choices when I was there, sororities, frats—I was all for the mix of things.
-
My daughter is looking at Syracuse (physical therapy), just finished her application.

Here is a suggestion for all of you suffering from colds from my dad on natural healing. Several years ago, I had a sinus infection and cough that would not go away, my dad suggested that I take a herbal supplement 'Olive leaf extract'. it is a capsule that you take 2 to 3 times a day and it helps your body fight off the infections. My doctor said that cough would have to work itself out and could last 3 months, within 3 weeks of starting the herbal capsules, my cough was gone. According to books my dad has on natural healing, Olive Leaf extract is a natural anti-fungal and anti-virual herb that doesn't interact with other medicines. Olive leaf extract can be found in the vitamin section at walmart and health food stores.

Hi ladies,
Update on my Delbert -
He had two teeth pulled, has 2 incisions on his back about 8 inches long and one on top of his head!He needs 6 antibiotics a day plus aspirin for pain. I won't know if the tumors are B9 until Friday. Vet seems to think they will be fine. He was under for 3 1/2 hours!!! Poor baby.
EWB - where are you in Jersey??
bbl,
AE
-
AE - Wishing your Delbert well.
Shelia, I'll look into the Olive Leaf Extract, nothing else is working, our weather is going to be just wonderful the next few days 80degrees, I am forwarding all my attorneys to the office for assistance, and going to nap outside all day.
YEAH!!!
-
AE, glad to hear that Delbert is doing good. I am afraid to take Penelope to the vet for surgery to remove her fatty lump and teeth cleaning.
Cathi, Are you bragging about the temperature in Florida or complaining? Here in NC it was 34 when I got up at 6:00 am and now is about 45 and drizzling rain. The Olive leaf really works for me, I start taking it when I feel a cold coming on to try and prevent it from settling in. My husband gets a stinky yeast/fungus skin infections under his arms and when he starts hurting under his arm he starts taking it to prevent any breakouts.
-
Hi everyone!
Boy, Sue and Cathi, your colds just don't seem to want to go away! Have you tried either Airborne or Zycam, Cathi? Do they have anything like that in the UK, Sue? I'm going to have to try the olive leaf extract you mentioned, Sheila. I'll do anything to prevent a cold from becoming a major thing.
Aawww, poor Delbert! It sounds like a bunch of us are having issues with our fur babies. Tinker is still drinking water like crazy (and peeing in the house at least once a day). Rhuel has lost all patience with her. He's such a grouch--he keeps telling me to put her down. NOOOOOO!!! She's a lot of work, but I will NOT put her down!
Where are you going, Shirlann? Did you have a cruise this month?? I can't keep up with you and all your adventures. Be safe, and have a wonderful holiday! Love you, Shirlann!
So good to see you, Mel! We miss you so much around here! It sounds like you're doing well. I'm so glad the transition hasn't been too horribly traumatic. Love you, Mel!
Love and hugs to everyone.
Karen

Where's our Judie? Are you doing okay?? Check in with us, please!

Oh Shelia I would never tease any of you 'COLD WEATHER" ladies. I would NEVER rub in the fact that I am wearing shorts, have my windows and doors open, that the wonderful cloudless sunny blue sky AND 78 DEGREE TEMP is creating a wonderful warm tan - I WOULD NEVER DO THAT.
-
Cathi...noooooooooooooo ...you are jesting !!!! OMG ..... that takes the biscuit!!!
AE .... poor Delbert .... I can feel him.... I am sending loads of strokes and cuddles.... he has such a lovely name...hes a beautiful boy.... I love animals sooooooooo much.... there is nothing can touch me like animals do!!!
Thanks for the tip Sheila...my cold lingers! Hoping it will go soon... or I will have to blast it out with an ultra hot curry!!!
BBL
love you all...and UB and snuggly Delbert xxx
-
Cathi if that is not a porky pie about your weather, then you have made me insanely jealous!!!
hehehehehe ...give me!!!
-
AE .... I may go docs if I have time...this time of year is way too time consuming... it it stresses me out... it really doesnt feel like Christmas... neither did last year.... I am sure its the work bubble in all reality... one monotonuos routine .... never to see light if day ! x
-
OK SUE , you caught me -But I didn't want to make everyone REALLY JEALOUS, the temp is not 78 degrees -it is actually 80.
BAD ME!
-
Cathi, just keep rubbing it in! I am sitting here at work with a long sleeved turtle-neck shirt just to keep the chills away and I normally hate anything around my neck. When ever anyone comes in the front door, I get that cold blast of air in my face. I can feel the moisture leaving my face and hands. I keep a tube of Neutrogena hand cream on my desk and slather it on my hands a couple of times a day to keep them from hurting from the dry cracked skin. Sometimes I don't know what to wear because of the cold outside air vs the internal hot flashes. I wish I could get the temps evened out!

Hi, sueps -
Try your level best not to let your imagination run away with you - it's not likely that every ache and pain is related to cancer. It will take awhile for the shock to subside - in the meantime, put on the bravest face you can and carry on.
The very worst thing a person can do in such a situation, IMO, is stay home from work. It's really hard to keep going in when things are so scary - it seems like resting and regrouping will help. But to me, actually giving in to the temptation to just collapse is a bad one - in my experience, all you have to do is think about what's going on and obsess about it, whereas if you're at work you can at least partially get out of that mindset.
It's perfectly normal to swear and curse the lump while driving, showering, or cleaning house.
BTW - there's really no way they can get ALL the lymph nodes - there's millions of them. The usual amount is 9-12.
-
CATHI
-
WELL IF YOU INSIST SHELIA - I have had to lather on sunscreen all day to keep from burning, everytime that breeze comes in off the Gulf -it sends sunch a warm sensation up my back - I am sitting in my back yard on my lounger forced to wear nothing but shorts and a light weight top - I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!
-
Oh and I also forgot Shelia, as I am pretty much taking the rest of the week off to try and kick this flu, and forwarding everything onto my office -I am afraid I am forced to do the same thing for the next 3 days- GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ
-
Did I mention the dry lips and the tube of Blistex complete moisture next to the Neutrogena hand creme on my desk and another tube of each in my pocket book? For the first time this winter I broke out my flannel night shirt because I am cold when I go to bed but still have to throw off the covers about 3:00 am because I am having night sweats! Like I said I wish I could get my temp evened out somewhat so I would be comfortable most of the time, not hot one minute and freezing the next.
Sheila

LMAO Cathi LOLOLOLOLOL....
Nasty!!!!
Dont take it Sheila.... just you turn ya heating up close your eyes and pretend you are sat in the sun nxt to Cathi! ...only tell her to stop coughin and wiping her nose on her tee shirt ...cheers xxx lol

Sue, Nancy and Cathi - hope you all feel a lot better soon. It's so horrible to be sick anytime but even worse when you have to work or want to do lots of Christmas preparation. You have all been through such emotional and physical stress.
Cathi - your weather sounds beautiful. The tropics are fabulous in the dry season. It's summer here and it's going to be about 23(C) degrees (73F) in the mountains but I'm going down to the coast at the weekend and it will be about 90F on Saturday down there.
The poor fur babies! AE - what a big operation for poor Delbert. I hope he makes a quick recovery and all the results are benign.
Karen - what is wrong with Tinker? Does she have kidney problems? Poor dog. I hope something can be done for her. Are you over your cold/flu and feeling a bit better?
Sheila - I must try the olive leaf capsules next time I have a cold. It certainly worked well for you. I have a potion that I make up which is warm and soothing with garlic, fresh ginger, honey and lemon juice with a pinch of chilli powder. It always works.
Mel - it was so great to see you post! I often think of you and pray that things will work out well for you - soon! It's annoying not having easy access to a computer. It took us ages to get it organised after moving house.
Lisa - it's exciting for Olivia to be contemplating New York or California. Do you have an idea what would be the best place for her to be? I hope something wonderful turns up for her.
Love to you all and also to Judie, Jule, UB, Shirlann, Ulla, Wren, AnnNYC, Kaloni and everyone else,
Jane xxx
-
Sue I actually reach over and wipe my drippy nose on my husbands T-Shirt. Darn Kleenex are costing me a fortune.
I hear yeah with the hot flashes though Shelia, although mine are better -of coarse I have been given permission by my onco to do 1 glass of Soy milk a day, and I know that has helped.
-
Hahaha. Love the friendly weather competition!
-
Ahhhh I am so lucky to have such wonderful sisters ...oooooooh I love ya all xxxx
My heart fills with deep love when I come here.... xxx
