I have been stuck in the house for 3 days because of snow and ice and I have been crocheting like crazy. I have almost used up the one pound of yarn I bought Dec 31. I have 20 blocks finished! I am going to Hickory tomorrow with my mom to a quilt guild meeting and hopefully will get back to AC Moore or Michaels and get another pound of yarn in another color.

hey, I read about your discussion group on my monthly email from Breastcancer.org.  I like to crochet... where can I get the instructions of what you need?  I clicked on the "warmupamerica" link from the first post but it doesn't bring up anything anymore... just a list of websites... I'd love to help!....

Welcome Jan, here are a few more instructions after you get the 7x9 squares made. You can border them with black yarn, single row of double crochet, or send the blocks straight without borders to madison, or liz to put them together into a large afgan (hugagan) and they will send them out to others who are having problems during treatment. The hugagans are so gorgeous even though they are made by many different hands, many different colors, and many different patterns. The women who receive them say that they feel hugged by the many women who have helped make the hugagan.

Send a pm to madison, liz, or purplemb to get their addresses.

    Hi kids,

Like Madison, I'm trying to dig out of the holiday mess.  I've also been down with pneumonia.  I'm working as quickly as I can to get more Hugaghans out.  I can't tell everyone how happy it makes Madison & I to be able to continue this warming project.

    Welcome Jan.....nice to meet you.

MB - I got your box while I was sick.  My son put it over in a corner and just saw it.  I'm off to open it now.  Thanks sunshine.

Sending hugs, love and warmth to all.

    Liz,

I'm so sorry you've been sick.  Don't try to over-do!  Things will get done in their own time.  Thanks so much for all you do!

hello, i am new to this website and notice that you were doing warmingup crochet squares and i have some extra yarn that i have no use for well now i do and was wondering what square pattern you were doing or if you want i can mail the extra yarn to you if you would like. I am in recovery but have a long way to go and this would use up some of my time that i have besides making baby aghans.

    Tracy,

I you would like to make squares, I'll PM a few simple 7x9 patterns.   We use only washable yarn so the afghans can be washed and dried.

Jan, I am also sending with patterns for the 7x9 "squares".

I need to upload pics of a few hugaghans that have been mailed recently.

Thanks everyone.   I am working on another hugaghan at the moment.

     You are all awesome!

Madison: Just came across this thread and want to help. Let me make sure I'm understanding your squares...Double crochet square measuring 7x9 square and border with single crochet using black? Any certain size hook to make 7x9?

What a wonderful thing you're doing!

madison is going to post some new photos but in the meantime pages 136 and 137 of this thread have some pictures ... lots of patterns .... knitted and crocheted ... as long as the final product is 9x7 or 7x9 before the black border is added either by us as we do the squares or by some of the wonderful women in the 'border patrol' who specialize in adding the black borders ....

These hugagahns are beautiful!  I'm impressed with the creative designs of the blocks--good job, ladies!  And what a wonderful thing to do for those who need a warm and comforting "hug" from their sisters :)  I'd like to join in, too--I LOVE to crochet!  In fact, to save money due to my recent BC bills, I made my married kids crocheted afghans since they all came home for Christmas. They truly appreciated this homemade gift, knowing I worked on them during my treatments.  I have lots of yarn leftover from those afghans, so I'll get busy and help.  Is it one row of double crochet around the edges in black?  Please let me know--thanks!  And bless you for continuing this wonderful endeavor!

PS--I just read that you have a "border patrol" that does the black edge, so I won't worry about that since you proably want to keep the blocks as consistant as possible.

Thanks for the nice comments on my niece's afghan.  I'm working on a white lacy baby blanket now...in between squares, of course!

Welcome to the project, arubajan, Joanne, mikita and Tracy

Joanne58 ~ how sweet of you to make afghans for your family while you were in treatment.  I bet they were just gorgeous.

liz ~ I'm sorry you were sick, and I hope you're recovering well.

veggy ~ As far as I know, the post office will give you free boxes if you're sending your squares by Priority Mail.

Madison ~ lovely hugaghan; thanks for the picture!  A box of squares is on its way to you.

Love and hugs to all of you,

I just looked at the AC Moore ad for this week online and they seem to be having a good yarn sale this week. I am going to Hickory today and see what I can pick up.

Hi ladies. Just poking my head in to say I got back to working on some squares and I am on my 10th one now.  I fell in love with sewing for a while (weight loss = new pants needed) but have managed to use up some odds & ends of yarn. Hope everyone stays well or gets better....
