A quick pop in... Laura thanks for joining the border patrol !! No more therapy on my elbow so back to working on the "odd" squares.. and most aren't very square.. I can't wait to start putting it together... keep up the good work..
MB -
Madison ~ thanks. I just wondered if they were knitted because of the "argyle" look. I can only crochet, and I've never had my yarn make a pattern like that, so I thought knitting might be the difference. I think it looks very cool!
Laura ~ those squares are very pretty!
So, ladies, am I the only who didn't know that yarn has right and wrong ends? I never heard of that until today, and I've been crocheting for over 30 years. Maybe I did know it, but then it got lost in the chemo fog.Hugs to all,
Artemis -
artemis, I think it has something to do with the direction of the twist of the yarn, If you try working from the 'wrong' end the yarn may lose its twist as you are working. Although I have never noticed a difference. But does it make a difference if you are a lefty or a righty . . . hmm? About the argyle look, when I was in high school I crocheted this top with verigated yarn and some of it had the argyle look, it depends on how the colors line up to get that look. I have tried to replicate that look and haven't been successful.

Okay, ladies, being new at this, I kind of had fun using up a bunch of yarn, so I have a few dozen patches to send off...where do I send them?!? I do happen to have black yarn, so I think I will crochet around them before sending them off, but if someone could get me an address to send them...?! Sorry to be so lame, but I haven't seen it anywhere.
-
MB - Glad you're all better! And...you're welcome...no problem being one of the border patrol.
Artemis - Thanks! Those squares were made by jenni_ca (one of the girls here) - I can only take credit for bordering them! Jenni's squares are quite creative. And...I never heard of that either (right and wrong ends?)!
-
Sheila ~ yep yep, it's all about the twist. I knew some yarns felt different, but I never thought about this "wrong end" business. Now I can't get it off my mind when I'm working with it especially since I know that most of the time I'm doing it "wrong". I tend to wind my yarn into balls instead of working from the center pull; therefore, according to CrochetCabana my balls are backwards. (heehee, where else but on a yarn thread would THAT comment be appropriate?!
)
About the patterns and color pooling that verigated yarns may produce, a friend told me that she uses 2 skeins at a time for large pieces. By switching off every row 2 or three rows, patterns and pooling can be avoided if you don't want them. She said it can also be helpful if you have non-matching dye lots.
raro ~ yay for newly finished squares! I'm sure Madison or Liz will PM you soon with info about sending your squares to them.
LauraGTO ~ I'm feeling challenged by jenni-ca to learn to do some fancier squares. Woohoo ~ I love this project! Making new friends, sending hugs to our sisters, and learning new things ~ what's not to like?
Hugs to everyone! -
laura thanks ! as you can see i can do straight lines - i just hide the fact with different colors of yarn
... i can't follow a pattern at all ... same with recipes !
-
Do you single crochet around them in black? Or double?! Half-double?!
-
raro ~ The black border is one row of double crochet.
-
Artemis, thank you for giving raro the information concerning the double crochet.
I am still having problems posting a pic to the new afghan....maybe tonight.
-

Hi kids!
I haven't posted pics but have sent out two afghans prior to this one. I'll try to post them all here. Isn't Madison's pink ribbon square gorgeous? Wish I were as talented as so many of you. As she said, we could not do this without each of you. Thank you so much!\ Wow had a heck of a time posting pics. Here are two of the three. I can't seem to find the third one. Sorry about the mess with the pics. I'm off to lay another afghan out. Thanks and lots of love and prayers to each of you! Liz

Raro, yes indeed.......Thank you for the beautiful squares. They are absolutely awesome.
Liz, gorgeous afghan.......thank you for being my sister.
I'll be working on a afghan in the next few days waiting at the hospital. My mother will have open heart by-pass surgery tomorrow so I'll be "out" for a few days. My parents have been ill so I've been either at work or caring for them in another city.
Hugs and thanks to all
-
So glad you got them. I had such fun making them, because they're so quick and easy and use up my old yarn. :-)
I'll try not to overdose you with tons of squares...!
-
This latest masterpiece is gorgeous! The first thing that popped into my head when I saw it, was the ocean - coral and turquoise. It made my eyes happy!
Thanks for putting it all together!
-
Thanks everyone. I have another ready to start putting together. All the squares are just wonderful.
Madison.....I am here day or night. You know I have your mom and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Love you guys.
Off to do a little sewing.
Hugs
