ok squares are boxed up ... will try to stop by post office today and mail them out ....
-
ok liz and madison - a box to each of you went out today .... so maybe wednesday or thursday should get there ... i had too much to send one big box so broke it up into two smaller ones .....
-
Yay Jenni and Sheila. Happy new year to all. I hope to have more knitting/quilting/gardening time in 2010. I think I will quit cooking to make more time for the other stuff.
Stay well, sisters.
-
jenni......got your box yesterday. Thank you SOOOOO much!
Madison is in Georgia with her pregnant DD. She has been put on complete bed rest. The doctors are striving to get her to 34 weeks and she's now 30. Please add her to your prayers.
Now the Christmas is over and this weekend begins a new year, I plan to finish the afghan I started and will begin another.
Thank you all so much for your help. We appreciate each of you.
Happy New Year.....Liz

DH is home so he will be able to check the mail and get the box of squares.
Shelia, your squares are great. I took them to GA and hope to be able to sit long enough to get them bordered.
I am trying to wash all the baby things and get the nursery in order. I know the baby will be in neonatal icu for a bit, but still wanted to get things in order.
Thanks all.....
Have a great new year

I wanted you gals to know how much my friend Mike loved his afghan. I've copied a portion of a letter he sent to me after he received his beautiful gift.
I was so surprised to receive an afghan! It is beautiful and it couldn't have come at a better time. I suspect that you had something to do with me being selected to receive an afghan and I really do appreciate it!Mike died on January 1st, and I attended his service today. I'm so grateful he received his hug-afghan when he really needed it. I'm sure his daughters will treasure it forever.
Much love,
Bren
-
Bren, I am sorry you lost your friend. I am glad he knew he mattered to a lot of people.
I will have a small box ready sometime next week I think. I am doing some other things so have not spent so much time knitting squares. I am well-stocked on yarn though --
-
Ok the last few squares are finally getting bordered, so you can send me more if you want....
Bren so glad your friend could feel the love, please lknow we are thinking of you and his family
take care

I'd like to crochet some squares to contribute to the project. It'll give me something to do with all those odd-ball skeins of yarn I have sitting around! The link for the warmup america instructions apparently is no longer valid/available. Could someone pm me the info and where to send the squares to? Thanks!
-
mthomp welcome ! i know liz and madison will check in here to let you know more but thought i'd quickly say:
7 x 9 inches (or 9 x 7 inches if you like to do landscape)
machine washable/dryable, medium weight yarn
crochet, knit or niftyknitter
plain, pattern, stripes, pettable, fancy, you name it .... the more the merrier !
and yes i've used up bits and pieces of the yarn in my closet and other people's closets too .... makes for wonderful variety ....
-
Here is a link to the "instructions" for a basic square from Warm Up America. We adopted their sizing initially just to have a standard size for everyone to aim for.
http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/patterns.html
You will have to adjust the stitch count or needle/hook size depending on what yarn you use.
Thanks for joining! The variety is what makes the afghans so interesting and the "love" makes 'em warmer.
When you have some ready, just post here to see who is running low and needs the squares for assembly.
-
mtomph,
Thanks for the help with this project.
If you can't find any instructions, please let me know and I can send you some simple instructions.

There isn't a time that I don't feel good after coming here. Look at all the lives you have touched. It's just amazing - the gift of love.

Hello you wonderful ladies,
Just wanted to share an email my DH got from his childhood friend who you so graciously made a hugaphan for.
"I'm back at Johns Hopkins. This week is the second round of chemo and the stem cell "transplant." I had chemo yesterday (malphalan this time), with another infusion today. They gave me lots of anti-nausea med, so I didn't get sick. Unless something shows up on my bloodwork, the stem cell "transfusion" is Thursday.
Please tell Valerie that I have the afghan with me and sleep under it every night. I love the colors, the feel of it, and most of all, the prayers and positive thoughts that come with it."All I can say is you ladies ROCK!!!
Thank you again.
Valerie

Thanks Val for sharing that. There is a purpose to this project and that is to make sure those who receive them know we are all here and care. We send love as well.

Big hugs to each of you!

Hi everyone,
MB & ellie I got your boxes. Thank you so much. I hope to be able to finish bordering the afghan I am working on this evening. We are expected a winter storm so I've been trying to get ready for it as well.
Hugs to each of you and again thank you all so very much.

Madison ~ a box with 32 blocks is on the way to you! I had 20-something ready, and then I realized the box was bigger than I thought so I kept making blocks and tossing them in until it was full.
I'm excited and nervous!!!
Hugs to all,
Artemis
