2005 ROCK-TOBER CHEMO GIRLS

Dropping in to give greetings to all! Have enjoyed the messages even though I haven't felt like writing much.
I'm still feeling tender-hearted and sad. The visitation hours for Natalie were last night. I got to hug her mom and dad and siblings. I took her mom aside for a moment and offered to make Easter baskets for the younger sisters. She gratefully accepted. I will be happy to do that since having no children myself, I never get to do those kind of little fun things. I'll go see her in a couple days and find out what their candy preferences are and what little treats would be nice. I already know I will get them some perfumed lotions and bath gels. The sisters are 9 and 12 and they have an exchange student from France this year so I will make a basket for her, also.
At the funeral today it was lovely, beautiful flowers, tender speeches from family and friends about this wonderful girl. The sun is shining brightly, just like her smile. I had my husband with me, which I was grateful for. Our entire church was filled . . . the chapel and the church hall adjoining the chapel. Her 2 best friends, older sister and 2 older brothers told sweet and funny stories. Her dad spoke also. I was amazed at thier poise, self-control, and great love. I knew they were an awesome family before this but now I am even more awed by them. The hardest thing for me was seeing her mom, my friend, holding her favorite stuffed animal, all through the services. My best friend played the organ so sweetly and with music choices that were so sensitive. And, many people knowing that her favorite colors were yellow and orange, were wearing yellow . . . dresses, sweaters, shirts, ties, and all the high school kids had yellow and orange ribbons. It was a very moving day.
Hope this doesn't make anyone sad. I know, maybe some might not want to hear about this, but she was someone I cared for and I needed to tell the story. Thanks for your friendship.
Mary -
Mary,
My sweet sister it must have been a very tough day for you yesterday. You are an angel to put some brightness into Natalie's siblings lives with offering to make easter baskets.
If I could see you in person would give you a big hug to ease your hurting heart. Dont ever apologize for wanting to share your feelings. This young lady was someone who was a part of your life that you loved and is now gone. Sometimes life doesnt seem fair when these tragedies happen.
Thinking of you and hope you have a restful Saturday.
Your bc sister
Michele -
Thank you so much for sharing your heart, Mary. It did bring tears to my eyes but I so appreciate you and your tender heart. Big hugs and lots of love, sister!
-
Michele - you and I were posting at the same time. You are so sweet too!
-
Yes, I am a hooker and swinger...... can't imagine doing "back"wards.
Mary, Mary. I am saddened for all of us. To lose such a beautiful person is tragic. You are an angel to that family and to us. May you be comforted by your friends. -
Mary... you are so, so kind. Her sibs and the exchange student will especially like their Easter baskets this year coming from you. Such a sad day for you and your friends. I hope that you and the family and friends can begin the healing process.
I looked up Krukenberg tumor. It's very rare but it's fierce. There's no chance with it. It is very quick. How horrible.
Michele...you are amazing with all that cleaning!
The Young and the Restless..I watch that, too, sometimes, but I'm not hooked. The acting isn't as good as on the Bold and the Beautiful. I really appreciate soap opera acting..they work exceptionally hard, sometimes have no lines given and just a story and they fill in. They are really exceptional. I have a friend from high school who was on a couple of soap operas but I can't remember which ones right now. She was a reporter and was killed (so she's not on anymore..last I heard she is doing broadway). Another mutual friend keeps in touch with her. She was our star actress in high school and her voice lessons were just before mine..hard act to follow!
Glad your hubby, Michele, didn't say you had big hair! Hope you had fun with your friend.
RoseMarie..I hope you take time off from being a mom. Oprah said you are allowed to lock yourself in a room for 15 minutes and just do whatever it is you want to do without kids! I think that's a grand idea. You seem to be totally filled with kids inside and out! I remember those days. It's so different for me now. My soldier is hardly at home, my daughter is 23 and living at home but I don't have to watch her , and my youngest only talks when he needs the keys to the car! AND, I have my own computer which I insisted on when the kids were a bit younger.
Okay..back to cleaning. I'm getting to the end. But, our electric kettle, which is fairly new, broke. The switch broke on it and since I really need this, I will need to buy THAT first thing in the morning. ugh. I decided to do all the cooking tomorrow and Monday. I will take a look at all my things and see what I need, get to the store in the morning and then get home and just cook, cook, cook. Hope I get through it all!!!!!
Back to work.... -
Hi Ladies,
Here is my big hair, I just pinned up the sides to get through the transition growth phase.
Will post tomorrow off to dinner.
Much Love
Michele -
Mary -
I hope your memories will comfort you.

By the way...that baby, Amy, has a Fists Up!
OMG - I hope Mary-Anne sees this! -
Mary you are such a sweet and loving person. I know this has to be hard on you and I am so sorry you have to go through this. I second Michele and the rest I wish I was there to give you a hug and to help you through this. It does sound like she had a very nice funeral with so many people that cared about her.
Michele, Your hair doesn't look like BIG hair, it looks nice. Although I wouldn't mind Big hair right about now. We are going out in an hour and I can't do a thing with it. I would like to fluff it up a little, it is flat to my head. You still have your curl's. I can't remember did you have curl's before chemo?
Amy, Your friends little boy is adorable. He looks a little like my grandson although my grandson is a little older. He just turned 2. I will have to post a picture when I get a chance.
Ravdeb, It sound's like you are really busy cleaning. How many people are you having over for Passover? I guess I am lucky I have a small house. Although, sometime's I wish I had more room so I could entertain.
Laura, I really think we were separated at birth. We alway's seem to post at the same time.
Everyone have a nice evening. -
I did see it and thought it was a great pic Amy. I loved that your hubby is singing to a baby, I loved her Fists up, I loved your enthusiasm about the baby.
Had a busy week. Had Patrick's stomach on Thursday night, but recovered within 12 hours. I STILL haven't had my MRI and no word on the bone scan. My hip hurts but only when I cross my leg so it is easy to avoid and from what I know of mets, it is not a likely thing . But..it will be nice to put it out of my mind.
I spent the day with my dragon boat team. We had our annual meeting then went out to lunch. It is a great crew of people. Paula, we do have to get our teams together--wouldn't that be amazing.
Oh Mary, really no words to make sense of your friend. Hope you have some really nice things happen to you soon. You deserve it. How is your training going? It must be great to have your place all painted. What colors did you choose?
Michele, I hear you on the "big hair", mine is heading that way. I have to work to tame it down. I have a small face so big hair does not suit me at all. I bet when we get it long again we'll be chooping it short--it is so easy short. Yeah, why AM I growing this out???
Tracy NY, I acn almost hear your voice in your posts. You laugh a lot, I can tell. Off to storage again? I think it is so funny to not have enough space but having been to NYC I know it is a reality. My basement is a full floor. When I moved in 18 years ago it was empty. And slowly but surely it has filled up with seldom or never used stuff. I hate the thought of dealing with it all some day.
Any word on your job yet Debbie,? How did the pics of your daughter turn out?
Had a quick chat with the Therapist about my arm. She will measure me for a sleeve in two weeks. She wants to measure in the morning then see me back in the afternoon to instruct me on the how tos. You others with LE, is it still early stage?
V, wow, great numbers, another sigh of relief. Thinking of you as you move.yikes the work . How long did you live in the old place? you must have a lot of memories. I guess you don't leave them behind, so that is comforting.
Ravdeb, I think you have to be a little obsessive compulsive to observe and commit to memory all the rules and customs of your faith. We Catholics have our fair share but not to the same degree. Easter is fast approaching.
I took Patrick to a movie late this Afternoon. Meet the Robinsons , it was OK but I'd wait for the video. 6/10 on my rating scale. Patrick loves movies. I do too. The big screen , the popcorn, listening to other's reactions...
I rarely watch TV, only if one of the kids insists or looks like they need a buddy to sit with them. In the evenings I hang out on line or read a novel.
Graycie, isn't it funny...if we have straight hair we want curls, if it is curly, straight...
Hi, to all the rest of you.
Fists up! -
V- forgot to mention how happy I am, chica, that your e levels have gone in the right direction. Hope you are getting thru the move alright. Are you getting to spend Easter with Nic and Madison? T cannot wait until the Easter Bunny leaves his prezzies. My dad is having Easter so all the grands will get a double dose of the E-bunny.
-
mary....i'm so sorry you're going through this. i'm at a loss for words, but know that i'm thinking of you. please take care of yourself. you do such a good job of taking care of everyone around you...save some time for yourself as well!
-
Michelle, I love your pic, I am having to pin my hair back, too, and wear a short stubby ponytail in this transition stage. I'll have to have someone take a pic since it now looks like a nice up doo.
-
Michele..you look great. I envy the curls!
Maryanne..hope that le isn't too bad and you have no problesm with the sleeve. What's with the MRI? I still say you have bursistis! :-)
I'm here on 3 hours of sleep. My organizing last night was more than I thought. Thank goodness I had done a lot throughout the last few weeks. But, I'm really tired and I gotta leave. Came down here to get something out of the fridge. Gotta go pick up some stuff and a new kettle so I can have my coffee..boy am I in need of my coffee! And then I gotta figure out the new food processor so I can chop and grate with ease this year.
maryanne..I grew up with the traditions of the holiday and am really into it. Always have been. I research it and have discussions with my rabbinical friend and my sister and whoever else, to make it more meaningful because frankly, when I'm cleaning and being so meticulous, and then I get tired, I'm like...this is so dumb! So, it's good to remember all that goes behind it and I want my kids to pass it down. This is what my mom did and I'm doing it much like she did...
There will be 16 people here. I've had more before but not for this holiday. We have to move all the furniture in the living. Our kitchen, dining room and living room are all together. I have to bring in the wooden table we have on the patio. This will all take place today. I'll have my son clean it all off, and the patio chairs, and bring it in somehow. Will be a bit of an inconvenience in the house til after the guests leave. My house isn't all that big, Graycie..normal size family house and my dining room is part of the living room so there is really not all that much room. Not sure where the sofa will be going and we have a big coffee table to move out. Major job here, along with the cleaning and cooking.
The joke is that by the time it's time to sit at the table with the guests, the hostess falls asleep in her soup! -
(((hugs))) Mary - what a tough day. You are such a sweet and helpful person, I know that having you means a lot to Natalie's family.
I am a back hooker too. Lately I have been wearing tanks w/the built in bra. My PT recommended them, she thinks the commpression helps LE. I got measured for my sleeve and mantle (glove) on Friday. Should have it in two weeks.
You know, sometimes I just get overwhelmed. There are just so many things that need to be done and not enough time to do them all. I need to unpack, the house is messy, today was grocery shopping which is about all I got done..... ARRGGHHH!!!!
Well, it is past my bedtime and I have to put the sheets on the bed before I can go to sleep.
I love you, sisters! -
Hey Tracy.. I didn't know the glove was called a mantle..is that what a glove is called that is used for sorcerers (is that what they are called?)? If so..that is cool! You would then have fighting gear to fight the beast off with (of course you already fought the beast but you know what I mean!).
I am overwhelmed, too. I'm so overwhelmed that after I finally got my first cup of coffee at 1 pm, my mother in law came over and I actually didn't mind..it was a great excuse to get away from all this stuff I'm doing!
And now I'm on the computer. Boy am I avoiding stuff. I decided to do the easiest thing first and am off to make the soup...see ya later! -
Ahhh... finally on sunday night i have a chance to catch up with you girls. Had a busy weekend - trying to get that last bit of summer. Went to Fish Markets on saturday - mmmm fresh oysters and prawns... and then rollerblading today.
Anyone doing pilates? I got some dvds and do it at home... boy, thats hard.
One of my girlfriends had her baby last week. That little boy is absolutely adorable.
Lol i had to laugh at all that talk about bras. I cant unhook mine from the back - thats a guy's job! Although i am a bit concerned if a guy can do it with one hand. Tells me he had too much experience perhaps?
V., great news on your results.
everyone, glad all is well with you!
well, its 11.15pm and i gotta go to bed. Got an early morning appointment with my PS tomorrow, so should have more info on my upcoming operation. -
Isn't it funny that Paula is going to bed when we are just about ready to eat lunch?! I have a PS appointment too tomorrow. I think I need another nip and tuck, I want to hear what he thinks.
I haven't left this house yet!! I meant to go to Satan's Lair, I mean Target, but I went no further than the mailbox. I took an Ativan last night and slept like a brick. Sewing class is in a little while, I want to trace, cut and baste my suit in about three hours, we'll see how that goes.
Anyone wondering where the furniture man is? Join the club, I am too. I paid that bitch two weeks ago and he hasn't showed up yet! -
Maryanne, Gosh, you would have to catch the bug. I hope it doesn't go through your whole family. I was at a party last night and half the people didn't show up because they had the stomach virus. I hope you are feeling better. My grandson went to see Meet the Robinson's movie last night with his other grandmother. Popcorn sound's good right about now. lol
V, Forgot to mention, that is amazing that your count's came down that much.
Ravdeb, I join you on the lack of sleep. We didn't get to bed until late last night.
Paula, I don't do pilates (although I did take a class once ) but I like to roller blade. I haven't done it in a while though.
Tadah, Can't you pay that furniture man after he bring's the furniture? I would be afraid to pay him first.
Something strange has happened to my face. The last two day's it had been red, warm to the touch like a sunburn and hurts. Almost like when we were on steroids during chemo. I look like a tomato....lol....The only thing I can think of is that I tried this wrinkle serum that my sister gave me, hydroderm. But I stopped it a couple day's ago and it didn't do it the first couple times I tried it. My husband told me it could be high blood pressure so I took it and it was 100/58 so it's not that. Weird, has anyone experienced anything like this before?
Good luck to everyone having an appointment tomorrow. -
Graycie, if it hurts and is firm you may have a skin infection called cellulitis. This would need prompt treatment(ie today) with antibiotics. Generally reactions are usually itchy. Hmmm, maybe you should post a pic so We can have a look.LOL.
Caught your cleaning bug Ravdeb, did at least three hours today. Wish I would get your cooking bug. I don't feel like make supper tonight at all...just kind of lazy now.
Tracy, Seattle, you have years to UNpack, take your time.
Track NY, your furniture, guy-Never trust this guy with your bed Tracy. You'd be on the floor for weeks. What is he doing for you now? Do you ever rest? Off to a sewing class, very industrious. I had a sewing kick a few years back, did some curtains but now, back to duct tape.
What is the most unusual thing you have used duct tape for?
I bought an antique dresser 10 years ago, I temporarily fixed one of the drawer runners. It is still on and it still works. That stuff is amazing.
Income Tax is due soon... I hate it. I must get at it soon.
-3C today but sunny, so crocuses opened and Spring is in the air.
Talk later.
Fists up! -
My friend who adopted the baby from Guatemala in October called last night. She's doing great, baby is doing great and she would love to adopt another right away but her dh isn't ready, lol. The agency she went through has a website, www.celebratechildren.org , I need to stay away from the site -three's enough...right??? Anyway, she feels so indebted to Guatemala that she wants to do something. She found out that many of the children in the mountains have no shoes and very little clothing. The schools are really more soup kitchens than schools - so she is starting a shoe drive. If anyone is interested I could give you the address of where to send shoes and she even said that the nonprofit organization she's working with may even help with some of the cost for postage. Anyway -
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. We had a neighborhood Easter egg hunt (I love this neighborhood!) and all the men are out mowing, edging and all that other he-man stuff. It's a beautiful day! 70 F, breezy and sunny. -
RoseMarie..pm me the address..that is a great project and I know some people who might be interested in something like that.
I've got my second casserole in the oven now. I had a slight problem during the day due to the fact that we couldn't figure out how to get the new food processor to work. It's working now. Good thing..lots more to use it for tomorrow!
I think I took on too big of a project. I'm not sure I'm keeping up. With all the shopping, cleaning and cooking I did today, I had to cut back on one casserole because I have to go to bed! And I have tons of food to prepare tomorrow and am still trying to figure out where I'm going to store it all! Am making too many things that I've never made before and wondering how they are all going to come out! I'm sooooooooooooooooo tired.
Graycie..that sounds really wierd. Have it checked out like Mary-Anne said.
Paula.. you are right. If they know how to unhook the bra with one hand then they are too experienced! That is my motto!!!!
Tracy NY...you have inspired me and I have a sewing machine on my wish list. I hate sewing, actually, but I have some non-clothes things that I'd like to make that I would need a sewing machine for.
Mary-anne..don't get too carried away with the cleaning. It just gets messy and dirty again. My kitchen is a disaster zone again after all the puttering around I've been doing! And the cooking bug? Like I told my mom the other day on the phone, after this bout with cooking, I may never cook again! You are probably tired from that bug you had the other night. YOu may feel better, but you know..it can run you down anyway. Doctors tend not to take the advice that they give the patients like..REST! -
Happy Sunday!
I cant believe how fast the weekend has gone even though I had Friday off. Its another short week for us due to Stat Holiday this coming Friday.
Had a great time with girlfriend last night and on my way home I went grocery shopping. It was great absolutely no one in the store, store is open 24 hours. We live in a small town and the parking lot is really well lit and I also park close to the store. I dont usually go shopping at night but I thought what the heck I was driving by on my way home from my friends. It made one less task to do today as hubby is working nights all weekend. It ended up raining all day today so I spent a few hours painting the basement walls, almost done 1 more wall to finish. I also went out and bought some paint for out little front hallway to freshen it up too. The paint I got was a mistint meaning someone originally had it mixed and didnt like the colour so the store kept it. If you are lucky you can get paint for ½ the price then the original. I got a small quart for $5.00 which will do that hallway.
Thanks for all the comments on my hair and yes I did have curly hair prior to bc, it is just now curlier than it was. I know those of us that have curly want straight and straight want curly. I actually like the curls better than my hair before.
Okay, I suck at baking. I made some chocolate chip cookies from the package and they look deformed. I thought I would make hubby a treat but they look like something landed on the plate, dont know what I did wrong?
Amy if your checking in the Race is 2 hours tonight, I think you said you watched it or was it survivor? Cant remember ..
Deb the way I figure it out all the cleaning and painting will pay off in the end when our home sells quickly, hopefully!! Once it sells I will sleep for a month.LOL. My little brother who is the one and only boy in our family also was only vocal when he wanted money or the keys to one of my parents cars. It sounds like you are running yourself ragged, take some time out for you! I am one to talk I did relax last night when I went out but was back at it again today.
Gracyie do you put anything in your hair to give it some volume. I use Loreals architecture wax. Put a little on your fingers and rub through your hair, the hair tends to stay in place and retain a style. Hope you get some answers on what is going on with the redness on your face, very strange!
Maryanne the sleeve really helps keep the swelling on my arm under control. Im going to try and grow my hair as I have had it long for years prior to bc. Long hair can be tied up, an up doo or whatever you fancy, so much more versatile. Who knows maybe I will hate it this time with all the extra curls and cut it off short again.LOL. I cant believe you havent had your MRI yet. I owe the taxman too this year as the Insurance Company didnt take off enough tax when I was off most of last year. Sent hubbys return in first, will mail mine on the last day April 30th.
Kelly I use to love Easter as a kid looking for all the jelly beans my mom would hide. There were five of us so we each got a hollow chocolate egg with our name on it and then she hid the jelly beans.
TracySeattle I dont envy you. I still remember when we moved into this house almost 14 years ago and vowed to my husband that we would never move again.LOL. Here we are moving again but some people that I know at work move every 3-5 years so we are doing well!
Paula hmm never thought about that if a guy was that good at unhooking from the back that would say too many women.LOL. thats funny! It is exciting to hear about new life. Babies are so cute.
TracyNy I chuckle everytime I read your posts, cant wait to meet you in person. You sound like a lot of fun and enjoy laughing. We will have to advertise the furniture mans picture on American;s Most Wanted and then maybe he will cough up your furniture.LOL.
Rosemarie the easter egg hunt sounds like fun. We had rain all day and the temps have dipped back down, all this upcoming week it will be around freezing. I do see some green grass popping up here and there though.
Have a great Sunday evening, hello to all my sisters.
Love
Michele -
Thanks for the advice Mary Anne, now I am a little scared. lol. Just my luck I could have something serious. My husband had cellulitis once and I really don't think it look's like it since my skin is not tight and it doesn't appear to be as red as it was this morning but you never know. I didn't realize you can get it in your face. Believe me, I will keep an eye on it and if it doesn't improve by morning I will definitely call the doctor and have it checked out. OK, now I am so nervous my chest and everything is red.......lol.... I better calm down......
Michele, Thanks for the hair tip...Actually I forgot I do have some wax, I should give it a try now that my hair is a little longer. I used it when it was short to spike it up. -
Maybe it is a sunburn...LOL.were you out walking the last few days?
Fists up! -
Quote:
Hmmm, maybe you should post a pic so We can have a look.LOL.
OMG - that is so funny!
Please Graycie, post a pic! LOL - No seriously, I hope it's nothing more than a reaction to the cream you used...has it gotten worse today, or better?
Mary-Anne -
I haven't really used duct tape for anything unusual, yet.
But recently I used it to seal a box and then needed it again, and couldn't find it. A couple of days later I found it in the bottom drawer in my fridge! I almost called my Onc to beg for a brain MRI! LOL
RoseMarie -
One of the girls here in the Illinois Survivor Thread just adopted a baby girl from Guatemala too. I had a mini-meet with her at last year's bc walk and had lunch together recently and met her little one. They are both doing great! Can you please PM me the address to donate to?
Michele -
My...what curly hair you have! and lots of it too...it looks really cute. Even if cookies don't look good - they always taste good!Quote:
Anyone wondering where the furniture man is? Join the club, I am too. I paid that bitch two weeks ago and he hasn't showed up yet!
TaDah -
OMG - it's time to rough him up! LOL
Paula -
Good luck at the PS tomorrow...keep us posted. Shelby's here - she says to say HI!
ravdeb -
Hang in there...take a deep breath...everything will turn out fine!
----------------------------------------------------
Girls -
I feel sooooooooooooooooooooooo bad! Roy's been putting off a haircut (for no good reason), so he asked me if I could give him a trim to hold him over til he could get to the barber. I used Buddy's electric grooming shears. Well, let me just say...it's not good! He's almost completely bald on one side of his head! I don't know how it happened, but I think his hair was curlier on that side and I didn't realize it. He's taking it really well though...I think the initial shock has worn off. But he keeps leaving the room and looking in the bathroom mirror. Honestly, I feel bad, but on the other hand, I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING! Every time I start to laugh I run down into the basement or into the garage! He's such a good sport! Shelby's here and she actually told him he looked bald on one side! I almost strangled her! LOL Thank goodness his hair grows really fast! I asked him if I could take a photo and post it here...he said, "NO WAY IN HE**"! OMG
Hope you all had a nice weekend. -
Graycie - Mary-Anne -
We were all posting at the same time! Graycie, there we go again! I hope you wake up and it's gone! -
OK, Here it is......lol......Kind of hard to tell.
Maryanne, I would go for the sunburn since I have been out walking everyday but it was cloudy today. I'll tell you one thing my cheeks sure look fat but unfortunately I think that is normal....lol -
Laura - I do those crazy things all the time. I go to look for my glasses and they are on my head. Last summer I was looking for my glasses and they must have gotten caught in with all my dirty laundry and they got washed! I found them after looking for them for two hours after deciding to hang the laundry out and they were in the laundry basket in one piece! I find myself starting to do things all the time and then forgetting what I was doing.LOL.
Poor Roy, my dh would never let me cut his hair with the trimmers. He shaves his down to stubble all the time, I love it, makes him look hot... Thankfully your hubby has a good sense of humour!
Gracyie - that does look like a sunburn, if the redness doesnt go away, please go get it checked out. You can still get sun even if it is cloudy out especially early in the season when your skin hasnt been exposed to the sun all winter.
Have a great evening, almost time for bed for me.
Love
Michele -
Graycie, it is suspicious for sunburn. Cellulitis is usually bright firm and very tender. If it is sunburn it should start to improve by morning.
Laura, you USED the DOG clippers. Roy is way too trusting. I cut My DH hair all the time. His is curly so pretty forgiving of my inexperience. Even so I ahve done some pretty unusual cuts too.LOL.
I am off to bed too.
Fists up!
