That is a great idea, WR! I will also donate to our President's campaign AND to Planned Parenthood.

I too wish to add my voice to say that it seems extremely unfair that Athena is removed. This all seemed very quick, and I do feel that there is underhanded things going on by someone. I hope you will look into this Mods, as soon as possible.
I've not been here long but I've seen nothing here but freely expressed opinions and ideas, and sharing of viewpoints. Between friends which is what prompted me to want to come here and spend time. Please allow Athena back. She is very wanted and appreciated here.

I'm going back a page or two - thank you to everyone for the kind birthday wishes. It's a great group here!
It's interesting how we all remember exactly what we were doing when the twin towers and the Pentagon were struck. I appreciate the irony of the activities on page 911 here. Are you old enough to remember what you were doing when J F Kennedy was killed? (Grade 11 geometry class). I can remember where I was when Paul Henderson scored the winning goal for Canada in the hockey game against the Soviet Union. There are some events that just kind of stop time.
-
I'm going to donate to Obama and to the Dem party to support Congressional races in honor of Athena.
And yes, lassie, I can remember where I was when JFK was killed. I'd been sick that day,my mother and I went to pick up my sister, and she came out crying that the President was dead. My mother yelled at her that it wasn't funny, then she turned on the radio.

I am making a donation to the Van Duzer Foundation. The Van Duzer Foundation is run by the wonderrful, enthusiastic gentleman in Florida who was so thrilled that President Obama came to visit his pizza restaurant (to congratulate him on the good work his foundation does) that he picked up President Obama in a bear hug. A registered Republican, Mr. Van Duzer voted in 2008 for President Obama and plans to do the same this year. For his kindness to and support of the President, Van Duzer has been attacked and reviled by the right wing all over the internet -- they have tried to plaster his Yelp review site for his restaurant with negative reviews and have spewed hate on his restaurant's FB page. The right wing trying to shut him down for his opinions and his support of the President. I see many parallels. The Van Duzer foundation helps people in his area who have fallen on hard times -- and he is a huge blood donor as well. The kind of man who reaches out to help -- who doesn't say, "I've got mine, too bad for you. Get a job."

Alexandria - I echo Yorkie's sentiment. Kind of reminds me of today's Cheney smear. Really, on a day we should be remembering the victims? Love the idea of contributing "in honor" of Athena. I gave quite a bit 4 years ago, but BC has set me back (even with health insurance, yes!). I think I can afford a contribution because what better disincentive would this be for some, in turn, making BCO a better place while honoring Athena?

I read those posts - there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with them - they were NOT NASTY at all. This just beggars belief!!!!!!

Hello all from Louisiana. I thought I'd check in a bit. Working 7 - 7, 7 days a week but often not out til 8. I'm really testing myself and so far other than back stiffness and achiness at night, the big C is not getting in my way. It has been great to seen so many old friends from when I worked hurricane Ike in Tx. One of my coworkers since then has had MX and a recurrence so found a compadre who gets it.
Workers pouring in to the state from every agency and charity. It's quite a mess.
So I've missed all the goings on here and fall asleep so early I didnt catch either convention.
Sorry to see that the inconsistent monitoring of this board continues. Sad really.
Well I'm exhausted and I'll try to check in with y'all again. Gotta do some FaceTime with DH. -
The banning of Athena was inadverant, and was caused by reportings of her posts "by the community". She is not "banned for life" at all. All should be fine now. If it is not, please do let us know.
Thanks,
The Mods

Brussel sprouts for dinner tonight.
Hope you had a good birthday Lassie...
-
I certainly hope Athena can rise above the nonsense and come back. I would understand if she decided it was just not worth the hassle.
If you don't like the discussion, ignore. that shouldn't need to be repeated but it seems like it does.
-
And the trolls laugh hysterically under their rock. They love the chaos they create here. It's why they do it. And only the Moderators can stop it. Really a sad situation.

Tealiban?????

Moderators,
Can you identify the persons/User names who reported Athena's posts? Is there any skepticism or speculation on your part re new users who somehow find their way here and report posts? Or repeat offenders? This happens often enough to make one suspicious of certain, and new, user names. -
Thank-you Mods for fixing things
Athena - please come back....
-
Thank you Mods!
Chickadee ... so glad to hear from you! Have been wondering how it was going.
-
Thank you, Mods! Whew. And I agree that the troublemakers (esp. if repeat offenders) need to be addressed. This is unacceptable bullying, IMO.
-
Whew! Stuff happens! So glad to know Athena's banning was in error, and I hope she returns.
HL -- Thanks for your thanks to my fellow Canucks, but I'm quite sure if the situation were reversed, your famous American hospitality would be sure to kick in immediately! Fingers crossed that it's never put to the test. However, Cdn opinion of W dropped to new lows (and subsequently stayed there!) when he left Canada out of his "thanking all the countries who helped" speech. Perhaps he had been influenced by the false rumour that some of the hijackers had entered the US through Canada.
Lassie -- I was in Grade 11 History class, and when the teacher came in with the news about JFK, we were all devastated. We had a special memorial assembly and I still remember playing the Mariners' hymn in tribute.
Chickadee -- Been thinking about you and glad to know that you're hanging in and meeting up with old friends.
To all our wonderful friends on this thread -- thank you for being YOU and for standing up for each other. So nice to know we can count on each other -- it means the world!
-
Glad to see Athena was banned "in error". Hopefully she will come roaring back. I always love reading her posts on this and other threads. She has been a great support to many.
-
Thanks for being proactive Mods - saved me pm'ing you

-
Thank You,MODS!!
ATHENA come on back. We know she will because she did nothing wrong.
I received a PM the other night warning about all the problems coming from this thread. I feel bad you havent caused me problems and I have totally enjoyed the camraderie enjoyed by most----------kad2kar -
Hmmmmmm......I wonder who PM'd you kad2kar? I'll bet I can guess but I won't because we're not supposed to name names. I'm glad you enjoy it here.

If you put that person on ignore, kad2kar, they won't be able to bug you with PMs. Just a suggestion.

-
Problems from this thread? That is really silly. Kudos to the mods for fixing the mess.
-
The only "problems" coming from this thread are from the interlopers who feel it necessary to censor opinions of others who don't agree with them, "punish" people who offend them, and generally try to get this thread shut down because they absolutely cannot STAND to see a group of women share conversation, viewpoints and beliefs in a civilized manner even when they don't agree. I, too, hope the Mods do something about the unjustified reporting -- remember, oldbies, how they got Konakat banned because they didn't agree with what she said. The mods unbanned her, but it showed just how low the hateful people will go to suppress anything that they don't agree with. They don't care who they hurt.
Thanks for fixing the issue with Athena, Mods. Now if you can just fix the issue with the reporters and the people who think they have a right to censor what we say here just because they don't agree with it, everything would be peachy. (Winning lottery numbers would be fab, but I don't expect you can pull that one off!

HL - yes, it still makes me cry those same vicious people got Elizabeth banned, when she was so sick, and that's when I started putting people on Ignore - because I too got a PM from one of them telling me about this thread, and I still am disappointed the Moderators haven't realized who these vicious ATTACKING bullies are and taken away their "report" buttons AT THE LEAST OF THE RESTRICTIONS.
ATTACKING a breast cancer survivor because of her values is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Why isn't that a "rule" at BCO?
When is it going to be made public who reports a post?????
-
Rest in Peace.
Ambassador to Libya killed last night.
Yes, alexandria, irony, and sad - attacking with words or a gun, because of VALUES.
-
So didn't I say, just a few pages back, that good always triumphs over evil?
The good is you wonderful sisters who frankly would have made it impossible for the mods, human beings that they are, to keep me banned. Donating to all these causes..... that's amazing.
Can we agree that SUNFLOWERS is both sunny and a flower??? That HL and the Wabbit are wise women, and we are a thread to stay? Can't wait to see Alexandria's avatar.
I can report that certain folks have been told to stay away from us. Several times. The mods are aware of the problem caused by the interlopers. So if they come here, they shouldn't.
And now we know why ignoring them is more than just as passing bit of advice. If you don't wish to ignore them, please respond via PM so that the rest of us can take full advantage of our settings.
In honor of all of you, I am donating to my favorite charity, Cause an Uproar(lol - predictable???)- a National Geographic initiative to save the lion and other big cats.

ROAR ROAR ROAR ROAR
We all KNEW the Moderators have told them " Don't Like, Don't Read" - but I still think it's time to take away their report button. We KNOW ( from our own personal experience, and what other women a little "newer" to this thread know) they send PM's "warning people they think are "newbies" ( but aren't!!!!) to stay away. or words to denigrate, the Yes/No thread.
ROAR, ROAR, ROAR - PLEASE use your Block/Ignore button - honest, it's SUCH fun to see an avatar and NO CONTENT, and you get to chortle, giggle, guffaw as you choose, cuz the person posting KNOWS you can't read her words - and the added benefit, CAN NOT PM you. Such a deal - a twofer...
ROAR, ROAR, ROAR
As we used to say, (wonder what the new words for it are?) "We've got your back!"
-
Welcome back, Athena!
I propose a new version of the drinking game - whenever a hater, troublemaker, interloper or otherwise undesirable User name comes calling, we donate to our favorite charity or cause and post it here. (Thanks to WR for starting the charity ball rolling! Obama and Planned Parenthood thank you!)
