And once again, many heartfelt and loving thanks to our Canadian friends, our brothers and sisters, who took in frightened Americans and others when the airplanes bound for the United States were diverted away from our borders and into Canada. The terrified and weary travelers were cared for, fed, taken into peoples' homes and hearts -- comforted and helped by our brothers and sisters to the north.
Thank you seems so inadequate for the humanity and kindness you have shown us so many times, including sheltering American diplomats in Iran after the hostage-taking, but it is all I have to give. Thank you, friends. Thank you.

A very, happy happy birthday Lassie....Have a wonderful day spent with people you love.
9-11 --- as usual Dh and I were watching the news when the broadcast broke away and started showing those pictures of the first plane hitting the Tower. Of course, we too thought it was an accident and were immediately terrified about wounded and causalities. Then.....seemed ( though I don't think it was really quite that short ) such a short time before the second building was hit.....and then the Pentagon building. I think we were all in a daze ( had overnight company ) and just struggling to have some sort of normal feeling about anything that day.
Jackie
edited to add.....omg --- I had forgotten about the wonderful Canadian hospitality.

Hi, all! Just popping in very quickly to say hello and give everyone my warmest of wishes on the anniversary of the tremendously moving and life-changing and terrible events of 9/11 .
I hope that this post finds you all in a positive and life-affirming place.
For me, I am on the eve of my birthday and the one year anniversary of the biopsy that led to my initial diagnosis. As I lay there on the table preparing for the stereotactic biopsy, the radiologist noticed that 9/12 was my birthday and became the first person that day to wish me a happy birthday. He nearly broke my resolve...but I kept the tears in check. He had no idea that he'd just made my heart drop through my stomach.
This time of year seems so intense to me now. Not all bad feelings. But such intensity.
I wish that I had time to converse with you all. Your conversations are wonderful and I am enjoying reading....but I can only scan most of the pages...
Have a good night, all!

I had taken the day off work to go to the Western Washington Fair with my hubby. I was in our study and hubby flicked on the TV. I heard him in a very strange voice say "Yvonne, you need to come in here." We spent the rest of the morning watching the events unfold over and over. In the afternoon we took a long drive to decompress. What I remember the most after that is seeing no airplanes in the sky for many days, as we used to lie in bed and watch their twinkling lights high above us heading for Sea-Tac. Such a terribly sad day.

A post on THIS THREAD has been deleted by the "community." How many stalkers are needed to get a post on a Friendship thread that has been going on for 911 pages removed? And who were the people who requested to have it removed???
As if what ever was posted, is not respected by EACH INDIVIDUAL who posts on this thread?
WHAT HAPPENED???
Please email me or PM me with the contents of the posts which were deleted? Thank you.
-
I just got an email, as we seem to be "not allowed" to use other people's screen names on this website, I thought
all who regularly post on this thread would want to know that a certain BELOVED LION is unable to sign on and has been sent an email that she is BANNED FOR LIFE?????
COULD THIS REALLY BE TRUE? Have the terrorists really struck again, on page 911 of a Friendship thread?
-
WHAT???? Can we verify this??
-
You know, this is just soooo wrong - I am sooooo tired of certain people getting on here and "baiting" our regulars - BRING OUR LIONESS BACK!!!! As for being "banned by the community" - what community? ENOUGH ALREADY!
-
Yorkie - I can CONFIRM the emails I have gotten with lion paws in agony, the way we, regular posters on this thread, have been TERRORIZED by people who resent the FRIENDSHIP, SUPPORT, KINDNESS, we share as breast cancer survivors - and if the LIONESS were able to sign on, SHE WOULD BE ON THIS THREAD AS USUAL.
-
NOOOOOOO!! This is just so UNFAIR and OUTRAGEOUS!

Sunflowers, the belief that one cannot use another member's member name seems to stem from this rule:
"You agree not to communicate any personally identifiable information about any person, without his or her advance written consent, and not to provide your own address except through the Private Messaging function."
However, "personally identifiable information" is an information security term that applies to things like address, phone number, etc. It could be construed to mean someone's name IRL as well, and that interpretation would be prudent. But I don't think that extends to using people's screen names in a post, because -- after all -- they have screen names so that they are identifiable in this context and not identified by their names IRL. I believe that the supposed prohibition on using someone else's screen name in a post was a creation of the certain group of deleters so that we couldn't call them out on their mischief. Perhaps the mods can further define and give a ruling on whether another member's screen name can be used in a post.
I don't have the post that the "community" deleted ("community?" - more like "posse" in this case). -
Oh for crying outside.
I suppose we gave the one who dwells under a bridge what she wants by reacting.
-
.......and their hearts!

Agree, HL, now what can we do about stopping it. ABC News used to call it BULLYING. Isn't it BULLYING to keep trying to get a thread that celebrates FRIENDSHIP, community for breast cancer survivors deleted by picking off women who are a vital part of that community???
If this were happening on a thread of friendhsip that focused on religion, lesbianism, catholicism, and those who did NOT support the themes of those threads be allowed to have posts they didn't like deleted?
THis is a FRIENDSHIP thread on a breast cancer SUPPORT board. The BCO seems SO PROUD of the friendships that when members of THIS THREAD meet, they are given a HUGE BCO BANNER to stand behind as a symbol of how we all met.
WHAT IS HAPPENING???? WHERE IS ATHENA???? AND WHO were the people who had her post removed?
-
Lion confirms by email she never mentioned another member by screen name..
but nice try HL - now reason for Athena being banned?????
-
We can't stop it, Sun. Only the Mods can. They have been much better at stopping it in recent years, after they hired more Mods. And they reminded the deleters a few pages back that they needed to STOP READING HERE if they didn't like the content. But apparently the deleters are unable to stay away. They want so very desperately to suppress this discussion (especially the liberal political part) that they will take every opportunity to do so. Like voter suppression, which seems to be something they might also support.
Only the Mods can fix this, unban Athena and punish the deleters. We are at their mercy. They cannot prevent the Elvira Gulches from riding their bicycles or brooms here to make trouble.
For our part, we ALL need to put them on ignore so that we don't respond to them at all. They thrive on the attention. I know there are people who don't want to put anyone on ignore, but it really is better that way. We will not bring light to their heads or their hearts. They do not hear what we have to say. They only hear the clanging of cymbals in their own heads. It is useless to engage them -- we know there are people like that, but we don't run out to a TeaParty rally to socialize with them or try to explain reality them. It's the same thing.
So, we wait to see what the Mods do.
L -
Agree, HL. I just ACHE with understanding how wrenching it is to be removed from a COMMUNITY of support that is important to you - PLEASE KNOW ATHENA WANTS TO BE POSTING WITH US - and PLEASE, if you are new to this thread and haven't rezlized yet who you ight want to put on BLOCK/IGNORE, please PM me and I will make su[ome suggestions.
Meanwhile, why are the moderators NOT supporting - Don't Like Don't Read.
-
Sun, they have to eat dinner and tend to children and go to sleep, too. They aren't on 24/7, although it seems like it. I am sure they are aware (they get notified when a post is deleted by the "community") and will take the action they deem appropriate. I know it's terribly upsetting, Sun, but we have to wait for the Mods to fix it. We can't -- we can only express our unhappiness with this situation to the Mods.
-
HL, maybe they "work" in shifts. Just sayin'.
-
OK -EXPRESSING UNHAPPINESS TO MODS!!!! BRING BACK OUR LIONESS!!
-
thanks HL - got it.
Nite all, see you tomorrow...
ROARS TO ATHENA....
-
Oh, for crying out loud! This is beyond stupid - bring back Athrena and ban the deleters instead! No one is forcing them to come here and read in a thread that is NOT on the active list and that they obviously don't like. How can you allow them to come here and terrorize and bully fellow BC survivors? It is obscene, IMO, that this keeps happening.
It is BEYOND ironic that this attack on our freedoms happened on 9/11.
-
G'nite, Sunflowers. Sleep tight and it will look better in the morning. (((((Sunflowers))))) and (((((Athena)))))).
L -
Changed my avatar until Athena is back!!
-
Oh...Athena...:(
-
I've written to the mods as well asking for Athena to be reinstated and for them to investigate the people who misuse the report button to bully and harass this thread.
-
What is going on? I see some of Athena's posts deleted by Mods and then another by "the community". How does one have their posts deleted by the community? What does that mean?
-
I just note - that today, 9-11, in the midst of our group of friends sharing our remembrances of where we were on 9-11, one of us is attacked by someone who doesn't like our political point of view and comes here, deliberately, knowing who we are and what we believe, but wanting to provoke us in a place where we thought we were safe. Is it just me or is there something deeply ironic here?
-
Alexandria, it's not just you. The irony is stunning.
-
Ironic ... and worse. Unfortunately some people are not self aware enough to see it.
Glenna ... 'the community' is other board members hitting the 'report this post' button because they don't like a post.
I decided to make another contribution to Obama's campaign in honor of our favorite lioness. Was the only thing constructive I could think of to do while we wait for the Mods.
