Barb - one of these days I will make it to Treasure Island and meet you for lunch. Looks like ya'll went to a nice place. It is always nice to share time together with new friends.
Alyson - enjoy the time you have alone with DH. Good to have time with no one trying to lay guilt trips on you.
Hope everyone has a fun weekend. I am ready for a party too! How about a party to celebrate that I have stayed awake almost all day today!

Precautions re Mammograms and Dental XRays/ A Useful Warning
On Wednesday, Dr. Oz had a show on the fastest growing cancer in women, thyroid cancer. It was a very interesting program and he mentioned that the increase could possibly be related to the use of dental x-rays and mammograms. He demonstrated that on the apron the dentist puts on you for your dental x-rays there is a little flap that can be lifted up and wrapped around your neck. Many dentists don't bother to use it. Also, there is something called a "thyroid guard" for use during mammograms. By coincidence, I had my yearly mammogram yesterday. I felt a little silly, but I asked about the guard and sure enough, the technician had one in a drawer. I asked why it wasn't routinely used. Answer: "I don't know. You have to ask for it." Well, if I hadn't seen the show, how would I have known to ask?
Someone was nice enough to forward this to me. I hope you pass this on to your friends and family.

I am a dental hygienist and the offices I work in have always had the thyroid collar although I think way too much bad publicity has been given to dental xrays. I had some fool in yesterday whom I had sign a waiver since it has been 5 years since we last took xrays on him (at which time we DID find some interproximal decay on and probably would again since he does not floss) and he is refusing them because at one time he had skin cancer. I am not saying there has not been an increase in thyroid cancer in women , but why blame it on dental xrays since I am sure as many men are getting those as women?
Barb, I was able to see Shelly's pic with you on FB, but on here there is a blog about a victory garden right where her face is. Looks like you gals had a nice lunch.
I am glad you are getting your energy back AmyJo. It takes time.

hey ladies,Marybe, im shocked you're up so late!
it has been an eventful day, and i passed out after dinner, only to wake up in the middle of the night. good thing i di, my sugar went way up; and i would've been in trouble if i hadn't gotten insulin.
tokk it with dinner, didn't eat that much, and still was 300 upoun waking. great: thats' usually the opener for signs of a virus!
and, tommorrow, we have "wonderboy" im thrilled, but he's probably the carrier. we had him last tues also... im not complaining, though. tommorrow is an added bonus, as far as i'm concerned. whenever i'm depressed, or tired, he can pick me right up!(of course, im in bed for the next 2 days but WTH) so, sun and mon will be "rest" days.
for any of you up in the middle of the night, check out the new thread for in the wee hours of the night thread. where you talk to other people, as oppossed to trolling google, like i do!...lol
had first session with le therapist today again. she put me on a strength building excersice program, as well as showing me tricks for truncal LE. hope to be back to show normal in a few months. Vit. D still very low, so adding to my supplements...
Marybe, i'll be emailing you tom. nite, or sunday.. love you gals!!!3jays

Morning all. GramE, thanks for the info on the thyroid. Lord knows I have had enough xrays to last for several lifetimes. Shelley and I ate at Peg's Cafe in Treasure Island. They have the BEST eggs benedict!! DH and I go there every Sunday when he is not working. You can get them florentine, oscar and steak! Yum. Shelley had regular.
AJ, you will get stronger and stronger. Just takes time. MaryBe, you need to come visit!! We can go to the Dali museum. The new one just opened and is stunning. Then we can go to the Dale Chihuly museum. Awesome glass! And then we can go to Busch Gardens and drink beer and ride rides. And then we can go listen to DH's band. Anyone else in?? Come on down!
-
Come on down evokes thoughts of The Price is Right and also there was that song, Come on down to my boat, Baby, Come on down We'll said away...remember that one? I was always one for one hit wonders and that was probably one of them. Thanks for the invite Barb and I would love to come down, but lst I need to find out what is going on with the sky high tumor markers....for those of you who don't read my CA27/29 thread asking how high can they go?, they are now up to 2,177 as of Wed. when they drew the blood.....so by now they are probably 2,200....not a negative outlook on my part, just being realistic since that is the way they have been moving. 3jays.....I am developing your erratic sleep patterns I am afraid....stay awake most days because I have to or else I could not work, but if I am not working or get off early and I am tired I go to bed and immediately fall asleep and then I want up in the middle of the night wide awake. I hope you have a fun day with Wonderboy.....like that name. I will PM you and tell you about how when I suggested I may be showing signs of Alzhemiers, the PA decided I needed a MRI of my brain....NOT something I want checked out at all, just wanted to do that little test where they ask you questions. I am not the ostrich type, but when it comes to looking for something going on in my brain, forget it, I would rather not know for fear it might be bad. I know you can relate and I also admire KonaKat for being so brave and recantly went through her WBR with flying colors, but I just don't want to go there. Hopefully I am getting way ahead of myself here.
When is Lisa's send off party? I am ready.
My FB is all messed up again so I am mad about that....it has a mind of its own, sometimes the page shows up and sometimes it is just a big white blank.

LIsa leaves Tuesday so we are partying Sunday (I am going to ATL for a conference Sun-Wed and won't have much time to check in here). So you gals keep it going!
-
Here I sit twiddling my thumbs while my son finishes up a group project so we can sneak away to your state for a few days, Barbara! Sometimes I wonder why I haven't moved to Florida after spending so much time there anyway. We mostly went to Destin, now I'm going to St. George, but there are so many interesting towns along the coast.
I remember when we were kids we spent one summer driving down the east coast of Florida all the way to the Keys, and then driving back up the west coast, hitting all the cool little towns and seeing all the sites - like Alligator Farm! LOL! So many beautiful places...why am I still here?
-
It really is pretty here. Lots of real cool places to see (other than Disney) like Bok Tower Gardens. Shelby Gardens (can you tell I love plants?). Sunken Gardens, canoing on the Peace River, snorkelling with manatees in Crystal River, Dinosaur Land, the Strawberry Festival, picking vegetables in Imokkolee, shelling on Captiva Island, tarpon fishing in Boca Grande, Dali museum in St Pete, Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, watching the GreenFlash Band at Jimmy B's, hiking on the Pinellas Trail and on and on. These are places most tourists don't know about. Well, maybe the Dali but not so much the others.
HnS, I love the coast up around Destin. But we have beautiful beaches in Pinellas County, too.
-
Oh my gosh! You sold me, Barbara! It's been a while since I've ventured off the Panhandle. I have some relatives in Tampa/St. Pete - should go see them. I think my next big vacation with my son is going to be the same thing my father did with us - just go down one coast and up the other. Can't wait to see the GreenFlash Band at Jimmy B's! The word's getting out about them!
I was planning on heading out west, but I think we're going to do this trip first. My son is all excited about it now!
Catch you ladies, later! Party on!
-
Yes, you should fly here, hang out a couple days, go to the beach, the Dali, Busch Gardens (they have a great zoo) then drive south down the west coast, stopping at Sarasota and going to Siesta Beach, St Armand's Circle, Shelby Gardens, then head south to Venice and visit Casperson beach with it's black sand and tons of shark's teeth. Head further south and go to Captiva Island, heaven on earth and the best shelling anywhere. Then further south to Naples, then Marco Island, then drive down Rt 41 through the Everglades and take an airboat tour!!! Then on to the Keys. Do I sound like a tour guide? I do love south and west FL. Not so much the east side. Too much like NY for my liking. I like things a little wild.
-
Barb A: how do you arrange to snorkle with manatees in the Crystal River? That would be a dream for me.
Hugs to all.

Help! There's an ad on my face!! That's ok though. It made me look at my boobs. My new foob looks ok! Great thread Barbara! Have a good trip.
Speaking of Bok Tower, the Imperial Symphony (Lakeland) is playing at Bok Tower on April 30th. Bring a picnic and a blanket for our Concert Under the Stars!

safe trip:Barbara. and Lisa... 3jays
-
Lisa, turns out she was mleah in chat if that makes any difference!
Barbara, we did the Aquarium yesterday - I've done a couple others and this one was by far the best!
3Jays good to see you too and I loved the answer to my question - what 3Jays stood for
To all - have to share that my BCO buddy who booked this weekend trip went to Priceline and put in $95 as the cost she wanted and it was accepted. It was a room that normally went for $269 so we were ecstatic. Then we got the bill today under the door ... and were shocked!!!! Turns out that Priceline looked at all her details - including the length of stay - and did $95 for that - meaning, we had TWO nights, including all taxes, harbor view, two queen beds, for $95!!! Actually it was 92.40 or 94.20..but the point...DO PRICELINE folks! Not to mention that the weekend itself with a BCO buddy I've "known" for 5 yrs but never met was just awesome.
Happy Sunday my friends

Okay, I absolutely give up on ever posting a picture on this site! Frustrated is an understatement! I couldn't do it through Picasa and Firefox, so then I uploaded pics to Photobucket with Internet Explorer, looked at sites on "how to post to a forum", did the album thingie, and even changed default browser to Int Exp. Did all the steps (obviously wrong) and the above post I deleted just had the jpg for the picture, no picture.
So, now I'm making Firefox my default again and going back to the way things were. GRRR!!
I'm calm now, so --- Marie, that's an outstanding deal you got through Priceline. And I'm glad you had such a great time!
I'd mentioned earlier about all the bad thunderstorms we had last night, and we learned this morning that a house at the end of our street (long street with a cul de sac at the end) got hit by lightening and was a total loss. We saw the fire trucks roaring down the street but nobody on this end had any idea of what was happening. We didn't know the family and they're staying with some of our church members for now, but I'm sure we'll be told what we can do to help them very soon. What a tragedy for them. Worries about hail damage to the cars seem insignificant now, when you think about what happened to this family.
Hope everyone here had a good day, and hugs to all.
Kathy

Wow, Mary, that is a GREAT deal!! Oh Kathy, so sorry to hear about your neighbors. Terrible.
So Microsoft had a welcome reception last night and held it at the GA Aquarium and the World of Coke. They had food stations inside and out, beer and wine stations all over plus dessert stations. I found a dessert station that had fresh beignets and chocolate (You dip) covered strawberries. I hung out there for some time. Here are a couple pix from the Aquarium.
-
Here is the pic of Shelley without the ad over her face!! Love Bok Tower!!!
-
Hey - that chemo fro is almost 8 mos PFC. Time for a haircut?
-
Bon Voyage, Lisa!
Have a great time, and enjoy every moment~
