Single Pink Rose for AlaskaDeb

Wish.....and....when I finally get finished with what looks like so far is going to be 70....... 8 1/2 x 11 pages of beautiful condolences....they will be able to see who sent the roses. I've since changed the idea of the first page to our book to include a picture of the same # of pink roses that utlimitely end up at our beautiful Deb's funeral.

It's going to be great. You girls are awesome. 

Edited to add....omgosh...if the girls send us a pic of the actual roses...I can use that!

This is so touching and all these single roses in vases will comfort the family.  Perhaps, if we now have 100 single roses in vases being sent by one florist in a small town, we should now, be sending financial support for breast cancer research in Deb's memory and not more flowers. What do you think Deb would want.

sue, someone said earlier that it will not be a single rose per vase...simply too many roses.  there will be multiple vases with many roses in each one.  i do know that most florists order their flowers in so they shouldn't have any problem getting that many flowers.  if my memory is correct, the service isn't till sat so they should have plenty of time.  wouldn't it be nice if gov. palin knew about our special angel and could honor her in some way also.  maybe i'll go look for her website.  take care

I sent this post/email to Gov Palin.  Her site did say that due to the volume of emails that they give priority to reading those from AK.   

I  hope that I do not step on any toes or boundries by mentioning both websites...Deb was involved with both discussion boards, and I felt since they are both dedicated to BC to include both in the email.

One of my friends, Deb Clonan passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2009 after waging a valiant battle with breast cancer.  Deb is a native Alaskan and lived in Soldotna with her husband John, two daughters Carol and Katie as well as her parents who were her neighbors.

The reason I am telling you all this is as a way to introduce you to one of the truly most wonderful, caring, amazing person who I have encountered.  Deb was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, friend, community volunteer.  But her community was not just Soldotna, AK.  Deb's community reached across the US, Canada, the UK, Japan, Australia, and Israel.  You may wonder how Deb came to have so many friends across the world.  To those that counted Deb as our friend, the answer is simple.  Deb was caring, intuitive, had a great sense of humor, and a wonderful supportive listener.  Deb told stories, stories of her life in Alaska, her family, her animals, friends, work both volunteer and paid. Deb was a member of two non-profits that support breast cancer survivors, families and friends.  These two organizations, Breastcancer.org (bco) and Nosurrenderbreastcancerhelp.org.  Both provide invaluable information to those touched by breast cancer.  Among the resources both these groups provide are research, education and discussion boards.  For many of us, the discussion boards are a life line to others battling breast cancer, a cyber support group.   It is here that I had the good fortune to meet Deb.  It is hard to even to begin to describe how many women lives that Deb touched.  Just read the number of posts that have been written on BCO and No Surrender and the words women used to describe what Deb meant to them, what support she offered.  Deb's friends are ordering single pink roses that will be arranged in several vases to be delivered at the memorial service.  At last count, there were at least 150 roses ordered at the end of business today and the number will continue to grow. Deb will live on in all our hearts. Local Soldotna Florist, Tammy's Flowers and Gifts will be arranging the roses and delivering them to the memorial service.  The service is being held at Soldotna Bible Chapel at 2 pm on January 31^{st (}Her obit is in the Peninsula Clarion).

I realize that it is not possible for you to attend the memorial service.  I wonder though, if there is another way for you to pay tribute to Deb Clonan or a way to honor her memory and what she has done for her community near and far.  A few ideas come to mind:  a donation to BCO or No Surrender from your office,  support funding for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment for the uninsured and underinsured, support funding research so that one day soon, we will no longer loose sisters to  this dreaded beast called breast cancer.

I think this is all so amazing. A little angel here on the boards gave me the heads up about the roses and asked if she could send a rose for me, in my name.

Adding Another Rose from the Bahamas ( as soon as they open!)

I opened up a paypal account recently and would like to buy Deb a rose...can I use paypal for the florist (wanted to know before I called her)?  Halp!

Peggy, I will get Donna (djd) to get a rose for you because she has a PayPal account and you can repay for it. Though I doubt she will take it. If that's the case, then PAY FORWARD. PM you anyway.

I just ordered my rose and they told me they were up to 141 and calls were starting to come in again this morning.

Donna, I think this was just such a wonderful idea. What a way to show her family how many people's lives she has touched, if even in a small way. I am more of a lurker than a poster on these boards, but when I first came here two years ago scared and confused it was Deb's avatar that really caught my eye and actually made me smile. And reading her posts often gave me a chuckle. She will be missed but forever remembered. Thanks for coming up with this idea.
