marsha, I wonder if Isaac put up a fight?  I wonder if he and Abraham wrestled, or did Abraham sneak up behind him, or perhaps, Isaac was as willing to be sacrificed as Abraham was to do the sacrifice as it was for God?

I have been amazed at how many sayings we use today actually came from the bible!  Here are a bunch that I have heard all my life, some I knew were from the bible, but some I had no idea!

"turn water into wine", "doubting Thomas", "The Good Samaritan" law, "mind your own business", "you reap what you sow", "Lord willing", "cast the first stone", "the error of his ways", "the truth shall set you free", "am I my brothers keeper", "I was blind but now I see", "on account of", "be that as it may", "to each his own," "what's mine is yours and what's yours is mine" (except I say, What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine....LOL), and "better to give than receive".

I don't know what is up with my computer but it always tells me there is nothing new in this thread then I come and find a weeks worth of posts.....  I am still at the fight in the bushes.  Somehow I haven't had time to read much, seems as soon as I come in I crash and burn.  But I am ever thankful that my son and his unit have returned to the US safe!!!  I thank God for this and I am thankful for this time I am getting to spend with my boys.  If you would like to see our pictures check out the mets thread.  Anyway, tomorrow is SUPPOSED to be my day but something tells me boys can't manage on their own  LOL  I really do want to move forward and I know you hold back for me.

Moody thanks for all you do in this thread I am really enjoying it.  I don't give much input yet but lets hope that can change in the future.  But this is really something I can use and is helping me with so much going haywire in my life!  Please keep this going to keep me on track because I am enjoying this alot

You got it sweet heart.  I am so glad your son is back and safe.  I am so glad you got to spend time with him.  I am so glad you are getting to see the babies. And I am so glad you are still reading here.

I have been a bit busy and havent had a chance to prepare the next phase in Isaac's life.  Perhaps tomorrow I will not forget to spend some time doing this.  If not tomorrow then for sure monday, and hopefully that will give you enough time to catch up.

Lots of {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ HUGS }}}}}}}}}}}}}}} and Kisses  to you!

P.S. The "new" tag starts over every day that is why you might not think anything is being posted but in fact many new posts may be here.

Moody, I wondered the same thing.  Did Abraham say "I am doing this for your own good" and "This will hurt me more than it does you"  LOL Those are things my parents said when punishing me for something.   Did Isaac KNOW his father was told by God to sacrifice him?  For sure he didn't on the three day journey.  I'm still amazed he had to think of what he was about to say for THREE days.  Geez we have to psych ourselves up for "just a little stick"  haha  Foot in mouth

LouAnn, There is nothing more important right now for you than the time you are spending with your (hero) son!!  We will wait for you, not a problem.  I did see your pictures on the other thread and your smile made me smile.  Laughing

Moody, I am looking into the Trinity.  The Son part never bothered me, "why did Jesus pray to himself" Living on Earth in human flesh He would need to pray to the Father part of Him just as any "human flesh" would.  Also The Father The Son and the Holy Ghost OR The Father The Word and the Holy Ghost is clearly, to me, saying Jesus was the part of the Trinity to bring the word of God to the masses.  Anyway, I'm checking on the verses you pointed out.

marshakb I had asked the same question about why did Jesus pray to Himself - not because I doubted He is God in the flesh, but because I just couldn't figure it out on my own.  Anyway, I learned from others that Jesus prayed to show us what we were to do. As our example. And think about it, if He said for us to pray and He never did, that would have been very confusing.

Kind of like if I want/expect my children to do as I tell them, then I better be showing them how to do it!

I am working on the next post where I believe God has laid on my heart to show how in the New Testament, there is references to this very action with regards to Jesus and His sacrifice.  It is such interesting stuff!!!

Moody- it IS interesting to see how many phrases we use in everyday lang that come from bible, most of us probably never even thought about it before.

Lately I have been trying to be more aware of things like 10 commandments and incorporating into my everyday living more consciously.  Just saw a book at bookstore- some thing like A Year of Living Bibically (?) looks interesting- think I have to go back and get.  Has anyone read it?

EWB, that book does look interesting.  An editor for Esquire Magazine (I think it was Esquire). Part of the year was spent trying to follow the Old Testament and the other part the NewTestament.  Sounds interesting.

Most of the 10 Commandments are pretty basic when read in the book of Exodus but the book of Matthew really takes it a step further.  For example "Do not commit adultery" seems clear but in Matthew 5 it says Anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart.------------  Just thinking about todays society-------   Another one that gives pause is "Do not testify falsely against you neighbor" which in Matthew 12 "You must give an account on judgment day of every idle word you speak".    We've ALL had bad days where we said something we wish we hadn't or had a good old fashion gossip fest.   Of course you know the saying "It isn't gossip if it's the truth"  LOL

I agree Moody, it is fascinating stuff.  You know your Bible well and I appreciate your sharing your studies with us.  Since my mets diagnosis I have really had my eyes opened that maybe I haven't kept God in my immediate life like I should have.   Marsha

EWB, glad to see you again!  I hope things are well with you.  I have not read the book, but I have heard it mentioned before.  It does sound interest.  If you get it, maybe you can share some of it here with us.

Marshakb, we all have our times where we are "away" from God.  That fact makes me even MORE greatful that our God is a forgiving God!!!!  The most important thing is that you have such a deep relationship with God that you were able to recognize that perhaps your walk with Him could use some strengthening.  So don't feel "remorse" for that, give praise that you know it and are doing what you need to do to get closer to God.

You mentioned my knowledge of the bible.  Well I did read it all the way through last year. I started with Genesis and didnt stop until I got to Revelation.  Some days I would read for 2 - 3 hours as it was soooo interesting.  Way better than any John Grisham novel (LOL).  It has love, suspense, fear, sad, happy, it has everything, but the thing most amazing to me is how from Genesis to Revelation, it all is tied together.  How many 100's of years it took for the bible to be written and not one single detail is left out.  In fact, some of the details are so magnificent that there is NO WAY man could have ever done it.

An example is Laminin.  So I am going to tell you about Laminin in the next post in a few minutes.......

I gotta end this post by saying, I WISH I knew my bible that well!!!  Fortunately, what I do know, is how to FIND what I need.  I have 2 bibles and a bible dictionary on my Blackberry, I have 2 bibles on my laptop, my personal bible has concordance, subject guide, charts, etc to help, I have Matthew Henry's "Complete Commentary on the Bible" and I have about 4 websites I can find anything I want to know----by golly, I'm gonna find it!

Okay, you ready to see how our God is even more intricate with His detail when He made us?  This just gives me chills.

    LAMININ:

Laminin is a protein found in the structural support of all internal organs also called the foundation or "basement membrane".   It has four arms that can bind to four other molecules. The three shorter arms are particularly good at binding to other laminin molecules, which is what makes it so great at forming sheets. The long arm is capable of binding to cells, which helps anchor the actual organs to the membrane.

They are a family of glycoprotein's that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding in almost every animal tissue

Laminin is vital to making sure overall body structures hold together. Improper production of laminin can cause muscles to form improperly, leading to a form of Muscular Dystrophy.

Here is a Diagram of the Laminin Molecule that holds our bodies together:

And here is an actual slide of the Laminin molecule that holds our bodies together.

luvtotravel, WELCOME and it is NEVER too late!  In the "opening" post I add sort of a "table on contents" so you can see the exact page each subject is on.  I am glad you are here and feel free to post ANYTHING God lays on your heart to share!

EWB all I can say is "you crack me up".  I get a bit obssessive about things...........LOL.  So many people ask my biblical questions and since I have the memory of a pea, I have to have access 24/7.  I just like being ready at a moments notice when asked about something in the bible.  I may not be able to recite or recall exact book or chapter, but hopefully got the resources to find quickly.....and of course the obssessive thing.

Are you guys ready for me to do my next post on Abraham and Isaac?

    TY!

I agree with estepp, the loss of alaskadeb is tough and I personally am having a hard time with the loss of such a wonderful person.  She was vibrant before the rough tx and doctors errors messing with her brain.  Her death was so sudden and unexpected, just really breaks me up thinking about it.

tapmrv, I am so glad you found us and want to offer you a huge WELCOME!!!  I will give you some more time to catch up.  Here is the thing, if God can take His time with us over these past 6000 or so years, I can take my time so that everyone wanting to can join in without feeling lost.  I look forward to reading your input!  Plus, as you are reading, if you have anything to say regardless of how long ago a post was, please feel free to post!  Thanks for joining us!

Estepp, great idea.  I think we are all reeling from the loss of Deb.

Moody, could we come back to where we were and maybe find some scripture to help us understand and accept the loss of someone like Deb.  I will say I have noticed a coming together on BCO since we lost her.  We were seeing alot of infighting, ect and just one look at the threads about Deb makes me at least acknowledge something good out of it  You know one of the things I remember and know most about her was how she always tried to restore peace.

    Welcome Teresa and Luv!

Dealing with death is painful.  I hope this helps!

I don't why God sometimes picks the prettiest flowers to grow in Heaven.  I do not have any answers for why some suffer such heart ache and heart break, but I do know that our God is a loving God, and gives us the strength we need to get through difficult times.  Ephesians 3:9 "And to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery,  which from the beginning of the  ages has been hidden in God..."

The suffering is only for those of us left behind when a loved one moves on to their eternal life.  They are the lucky ones, as there is no sorrow, suffering, sickness, tears, death, in Heaven.  There are reasons for suffering, even though it stinks and hard to understand, and even angers us.  Thank goodness we have Him to hold on to, and He stays with us:  Psalms 139:10 - 11 "Even there shall Your hand lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.  If I say, 'Surely the darkness shall fall on me; even the night shall be light about me.'"

We may not even know what to pray for or how to pray during times like these, but that is cool because God already knew this and He took care of this too:  Romans 8:26 "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weakness:  For we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

There is good news though.  Our suffering is NEVER in vain!  Psalms 13:2 " How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily?" Psalms 13:5 "But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation."  God strengthens us when we are weak: Ecclesiastes 7:3 "Sorrow is better than laughter: for by a sad countenance the heart is made better."

And the sorrow does end and makes those of us left behind better people: Romans 8:17-18 "...if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.  For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."  John 16: 20 "Most assuredly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice: and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy."

I bet if AlaskaDeb could say one thing to you she might say this:   Ephesians 3:13 "therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory." Because she knows she will see her loved ones again:  John 16:22  "Therefore you now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one will  take from you."  By knowing Jesus Christ we have peace that passes all understanding.  Ephesians 3:19 "to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."

For all who believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, will not die in the spirit.  Only the flesh dies, but we continue to live with Him in paradise.  AlaskaDeb is with Jesus in paradise and has no more cancer!  John 6:63 "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak to you, they are spirit, and they are life."  Romans 8:13 " For if you live according to the flesh, you will die: but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live."

Jesus came to show us that suffering is an unfortunate part of life, but there is an end to the sorrow:  1 Timothy 1:16 "However for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for life everlasting."

AlaskaDeb has earned her reward and we too shall be rewarded with life in Heaven with Jesus:  Luke 23:43 " And Jesus said unto him, 'Assuredly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in paradise."  Revelation 2:7 "He who an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches; To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God."

I didn't know AlaskaDeb, I have seen and read many posts asking for prayers for her and I have honored those requests asking God to ease her pain and suffering and to drape His veil of protection over her and her family, and comfort them.

    Peace in Jesus-

    Karen

    "AlaskaDeb has earned her reward"

I was doing really good until I read that. It is so hard when we are left to hurt and ache the loss. What Karen put into these words, is the quintessential believers comfort.

    Thank you!

Marsha.. Yes, I see the closeness again too!

    From Moody:

We may not even know what to pray for or how to pray during times like these, but that is cool because God already knew this and He took care of this too:  Romans 8:26 "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weakness:  For we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

How true this is.  Sometimes I don't even know WHAT to pray for just that I feel the need.  Sometimes the actual wording will escape me but God knows what is in my heart and that I am looking for comfort and/or guidance.

    Thinking of AlaskaDeb today

Our Father, who art in heaven,

    Hallowed be thy Name.

    Thy kingdom come.

    Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

    And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

    But deliver us from evil.

    For thine is the kingdom,

    and the power,

    and the glory,

    for ever and ever.

    Amen.

My Life Application Study Bible had this to say about the Lords Prayer:

Death casts a frightening shadow over us because we are entirely helpless in its presence.  We can struggle with other enemies---pain, suffering, disease, injury---but strength and courage cannot overcome death.  It has the final word.  Only one person can walk with us through death's dark valley and bring us safely to the other side---the God of life, our shepherd.  Because life is uncertain, we should follow this shepherd who offers us eternal comfort.

Yes, Deb was one of the strongest, most couragous sisters I have had the pleasure to know here.  She no longer struggles with the "enemy" that is a cancer diagnosis.  I can very easily imagine her laughing and smiling down at us as she shines in the light of God.

    God Bless you, Deb.
