Bible Study for the Biblically Challenged Anyone?

Has anyone seen Marsha lately? I noticed her missing here and on the mets board.
-
Please be in prayer that God will reveal to this doctor the proper tests to run to finally get a true diagnosis, so that we can do a REAL treatment for a cure, rather than "medicating" to be control symptoms. She was feeling too nauseous to go to school yesterday and today and too weak. She is able to drink a little Boost and a few bits of applesause, but that is about it.
Olivia is again getting so discouraged. The good news is, she will talk to me about it. She says "I know God is hearing us, I know we are suppose to wait for Him, but I feel like I am withering away while I am waiting on Him to heal me." She said she feels like the "flower" in the song "Who Am I". If you don't know the song the chorus says "I am a flower quickly fading, here today and gone tomorrow..." But I reminded her that the chorus goes on to say "But You, hear me when I'm calling, Lord You catch me when I'm falling"
I feel everyone's prayers and so does she, we really appreciate them and we certainly need them. Her prayer pager #770-388-6901.
P.S. my modem took a "poop" this weekend, so I have no internet access from my house till tomorrow night................
-
LuAnn, thanks for asking about me. To be honest, I am just simply devastated by the loss of my friend Twink (Twilah). I'm also very scared and praying for strength for myself, to not worry that I will be next. I don't want to live that way, with the fear, so am just taking some time to mourn and then will try to put my big girl panties back on and accept whatever is meant to be. Marsha
-
Marsha,
So sorry to hear about Twink, and your stuggles. Every time I hear that someone has died, I worry and get scared even though I am doing well at the moment. Never know where to express my fears because I don't want to frighten others who are just beginning.
My prayers are with you, in sorrow for your friend's death, that you find peace and comfort and that you find the strength and courage you need to put those big girl panties on.
-
To Whom It May Concern: I am so sorry that I have not kept this thread going like I am suppose to. I seem to have "bitten off more than I can chew" and to top it off, Sunday night my DSL modem died and I have not been in my office like normal because of my daughter's dr. appts......
Anyway, I am suppose to have my new modem when I get home (I sure better) and hopefully will get all caught up. Please dont give up here!
LuAnnH, your rosary sounds beautiful! I know that touched your heart so deeply! I continue to lift you up in prayers and look forward to you challenging my brain!
JO-5 thanks for the link and thanks for joining us here. I hope you will continue to post here.
Marsha I am very sorry about the loss of your friend, it is really hard dealing with someones death knowing in the back of our minds our own mortality. If you need anything, please let me know.
-
Moody,
I think you have a lot on your plate right now, and your first priority is the health of your daughter (and yourself). Please do not over extend your self and put yourself at risk!
-
Last year I gave testimony at my church. If you would care to hear it, click here: http://www.survivorbiblestudy.com/My_Testimony.html

I tried to listen to it but my link didn't work either. I am so sorry Olivia is going through so much. It is hard being sick as an adult but a child is a whole new ballgame. They should just be happy souls learning and enjoying life. I did call her prayer line today and will try to remember to say a prayer for her and call it each time I check out this thread.
I do understand you not being able to be here and it kind of works out since my life is so crazy right now. I was really bummed becasue I was going to show up at church on wednesday to get my ashes. I ended up mixing up my days and went to show up thursday instead of wednesday. I did try though which is another step for me.
Marsha, I am so sorry you lost a good friend. I have lost quite a few in the past 2 years and it is tough. I guess I find my strength in this board so I don't leave when we lose people, although I do cry alot. If you ever need someone to talk to I will be happy to send you my number.
-
It worked for me and was great to hear.. I had to start it over because the first minute or so.. I was just giggling over your accent!!!! So adorable " dalin ".....
The song added to the whole thing!

Awww shucks Laura, you make me blush

Since I cant even rem where I left off, I am going to jump in to Revelations because I some great stuff on this!
Be posting it in just a little while.
-
Okay, I want to start a discussion about Revelations. My pastor did a four week series and it was incredible. I have his sermons on CD and got his permission to upload them to my http://www.survivorbiblestudy.com/Revelations.html website. I am in the process of doing that now, but I want to go ahead and share my notes that I took so you can be looking into the scriptures now.
Many people wonder when will the rapture actually take place. We are going to start with this part of Revelations and I can't WAIT to see what God reveals to you in these scriptures!
"The Glorious Rapture Of The Church"
Reference: Rev. 4:1-2, 1Thes. 4:16-18, 1 Cor. 15:52
Rev 4:1-2 "After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me saying, "Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this. Immediately I was in the Spirit: and behold, a throne set in Heaven, and One sat on the throne." NKJV
1. The open door in Heaven: God opens this door, not man.
A: There is an open door for evangelism and missions (Rev 3:8)
B: There is an open door of the human heart (Rev 3:20
C: There is the door of Revelation (Rev 4:1)
1 Thes 4:16-18 "For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words." NKJV
2. The commanding voice from Heaven
3. The call to come to Heaven
1 Cor 15:52 "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." NKJV
4. The immediate transformation in the spirit to heaven.
5. Reasons we will be raptured to Heaven:
A: Because we are in Christ and the tribulation will be a great wrath of judgment (Ezekiel & Isaiah) except for those of us who are justified in Christ.
B: Because of the biblical pattern of others: Enoch, Elijah, Noah and Lot.
C: Because the church is not mentioned in the tribulation period
God always warned His church before something happens.E: Why would Jesus "beat us up", then take us to Heaven? He wouldn't or He wouldn't have died for us!
1 Thes. 5:9 "For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord, Jesus Christ" NKJV
http://www.survivorbiblestudy.com/Revelations.html If you will just take the time to listen, I promise you will find it so incredibly interesting. Until then, what do you think about the timing of the rapture?
-
WOW Karen, Revelations is a book so hard to wrap our heads around. So vague, but spirit filled. So many versus that seem to be saying different things. There are alot of people who think the rapture is near based on current activities around the world. One passage is very clear that we will not know when it will happen, but should just always be prepared.
Anyone ever read the "Left Behind" series of books? I loved those. The author wasn't trying to say this is how it will be but here is an idea of how it may be, in a story that we can actually read and understand and think "Oh, OK, that makes more sense now".
This is a challenging book for us to discuss. So many interpret things differently!! Glad to see you back. (LuAnn, thank you so much for your concern and friendship)
-
marshakb, I totally agree with you. The Bible says in several places that NO ONE knows. And it is so interesting to me at how God speaks so differently to people with the same exact verse!
I look forward to seeing what others do see in the scriptures! I think it will be a very growing experience.
I do want to add, that just because I understand others may totally disagree with my understanding of the scripture in Revelations. I am not ever going to discount how God does speak to others, nor am I ever going to be in a postion to tell someone that I have all the answers, and anything I say is "100% correct" as God does NOT reveal the same things the same way.
So that is why I am excited to have discussions and see others thoughts and feelings.
-
I agree Karen. Also I don't think you come across as thinking you are "100% correct" at all. Just wanting to share, discuss and grow. Sometimes I think a certain way and someone will make me think "Oh, I never thought of it that way". I look forward to this discussion! Now I need to go refresh myself. It's been awhile since I read Revelations.
-
I initially was looking forward to this topic until you stated that my religion was false for you see I am a Mormon and proud to be one. I don't appreciate my faith being ridiculed and yes, I was offended.
Good luck with your study. I hope each of you finds what you are seeking.
-
Kathleen, everyone has an opinion and Karen clearly stated that everything she says is "just her opinion". Maybe you could use this bible study thread to educate us about your religion? I, for one, would be interested in hearing your take on the Bible, God, Jesus, etc. When I give an opinion it is just that, my opinion. Doesn't make it right or wrong, just makes it mine.
I admit I am painfully ignorant of all but the basics of alot of other religions. Karen said she is a Christian and here is why. You should just do the same. If you are not comfortable with that maybe start another thread for Mormons. I failed to see anyone "ridiculed".
I too hope everyone finds what they are seeking. The one thing I am NOT looking for with a mets dx is conflict!
-
I dont know if you guys noticed, I edited the above post to add the link to the sermon that goes along with the notes. If you want to hear it (I promise it is very very good) but cant play it from the website, let me know and I will post link for you to down load the file directly to your computer.
-
Marshakb - the last thing I would ever want to do is cause conflict with anyone who is already fighting the beast. My faith was called into question and I felt I must defend it as did the early Mormons.
If anyone is interested, as any church doctrine is too complicated to outline here, go to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-day_Saints
It is as fair as an outside source can be with one exception: Our belief is that Joseph Smith RESTORED the original church - not that he founded a new one.
As my great-grandmother once said: All religions are beautiful when practiced.
Peace & Love.
-
kmccraw423 I do hope you will join in here. I understand, of course, if you choose not to.
I am going to stay focused on the topic at hand, continue to post regarding the studies I feel God has led me to start, and look forward to reading how God speaks to others through the scriptures.
As I have said I use the New King James Version, the King James Version, New International Version, and God's Word bibles. I also refer to my copy of Matthew Henry's Complete Commentary of the Holy Bible
P.S. I think your little dog is absolutely precious.
-
Thank you Karen. You're sweet. I will try to stay focused too. I pray that you daughter gets healthy really soon. Thanks for the compliment on the dog. We think she is special and more importantly, she thinks she is special!
-
Kathleen, thank you so much for posting that link for us. I'm leaving for the weekend but do plan to check out the site. I really am interested in everyone's prospective!! I hope you will stick around, the main thing is our love for God!!
-
Kathleen, glad you are continuing to read and participate. As a challenged person
I am interested in all opinions, makes things more interesting. As long as things stay respectful (which I imagine they will seeing the people posting) then getting different opinions is great. Now back to the scripturesThes 4:16-18 "For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words."
I read this and understood it to mean the if you accept Jesus then you will rise to heaven and if you don't you just sit in the clouds close to God. That doesn't make sense. Anyone care to give me their version of what they understand?
-
What is "the dead in Christ" mean? Is that what you were saying about those that do not accept Jesus/christ?
-
First let me say I have always wondered what "the dead in Christ" means also, just never have researched it. I will do that and tell you what I find out.
LuAnnH the way I read that verse is that any believers still alive here on earth at the time of the rapture will be instantly called up to Heaven. Unfortunately those who don't believe in Jesus, believe He is the Messiah and accept Him as thier savior, they will be here on earth and have to go through the tribulation. Some will come to know and accept Him during the tribulation and they will most likely die for their belief but they will go to Heaven.
One point of reference for both can be found here:
Rev 21:6-8 "...I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, *unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimestone, which is the second death."
