Mexaltrexate

Does anyone know anything about a side effect of Mexaltrexate where there is swelling in the frontal lob of the brain?   Any treatments to reduce the swelling?

Thanks

John

    John,

I don't have an answer for you, but I hope Deb can get this resolved soon. What have the doctors said about it? I wish you and your family all the strength it takes to get past this new hurdle.

John:  Do you mean methotrexate?  I would call the doctor right away and ask.  Let us know how you make out.

    Kalyla,

Dr.s said no tumors just swelling.   They said wait & see for now.

I just have trouble waiting.   I also have a call in to the oncologist to ask about drugs to reduce the swelling.

Thanks for your & everyones help.   Deb is so lucky to have everyone Praying & Pulling for her!

    John and Deb,

I am sorry to hear about the swelling, and the "wait and see" for an answer. Sending you all my prayers.

John:  I'm just so sorry you and DebC are going through this.  I will be praying so hard for you and your family.  High doses of Decadron can be used to decrease swelling.  Mannitol is a powerful diuretic used to decreased swelling around the brain - not the brain itself.

I don't blame you for not "wait and see."  Definitely pursue this with the doctors.  What if its related to that port being in the wrong place the first time?

    Hugs and prayers

John, there is another site that Deb post and your question was posted to someone who Deb knows about.  She will know which site to go to.  He has answered the question and there are some drugs that can be take to help with the swelling.

Our prayers are with Deb, you and the girls.  We are just saddened to know that Deb is having a problem with this.

    John,

I'm going to send you a PM to Deb's logon here on BCO with the link to another website she is a member of.  You might find some helpful suggestions there.

Deb has to recover John from the effects of chemo.  Chemo reeks havoc on healthy cells too.  She is in the healing mode.  So awesome to hear there are no tumors.  Consult with the doctor about anything worriesome while Deb goes through this recovery period.  I am betting the spunky lady will do us proud.  Make sure she has lots of fluids and is nourished properly and gets lots of rest.

    All,

Thanks for the feedback.   Debs still quite out of it but.... I may be seeing slight signs of improvement.

I spoke to the Dr.s again yesterday.  They considered the Decadron but Deb reacts very badly to it.  So we are temporarily sticking with the wait & see.

Also,  I feel like the only thing I can do is feed her, keep her comfortable, clean...., kisses & smiles.... so that's what I'm doing.    I'll check the other site.

    Thanks & blessings to all

    John
