Thanks Traci - great news for Deb and her family!
-
All,
First Thanks for the post Traci. I've was busy with Deb then making arrangements for travel.
4 months ago, I planned to go to Fairbanks an approx 800 trip. Debs nephew started college up there and I need to get my continuing education credits done. So we thought it would be a perfect way to check in on our nephew, see a new town, and get some work out of the way.
Well when this all started there was no way I was going to Fairbanks. But Deb was stable, progressing even and Bobbie, Deb's sister, insisted she could handle her a couple of days. She's worked as physical theropist for our local hospital & is just a great person. So I've been gone.
While I was gone, Bobbie aquired some great stories of how she got to push her older sister around. Deb has been getting even by intentionally spilling things on herself, attempting to reorginze our junk drawers, and continuing to feed her meals to the dogs. I on the other hand, have been using tons of cell minutes keeping track of every bowel movement while learning tax law, and spending a little time with Deb's nephew. he is doing well in school while enjoying the new friends and activities that comes from being away from home.
I got home last night at 11pm to find Deb looking at cateloges (christmas shopping?) while sitting at the kitchen table. A late night for her. Today, we are back in our routine. She is much more lucid than when I left. She is now feeding herself again. She puts her own socks on, answers direct questions, and talks in complete sentances. She still has trouble with words and has limited short term memory. But It's great to see her doing so much better!! We also went for our morning walk & she is much more steady on her feet!. She kicks the ball for one of the dogs & trys to keep track of where the other one went. A true challenge!
Our girls are now in cross country ski season so they are having a blast! & Deb's mom comes home on Sunday.
Life is getting better!
Thanks for all the support & prayers! I know Deb loves you all!
Take care & God Bless you all!
John

Hey everybody,
I just wanted y'all to know that I just got off the phone with Deb's husband John.
He said she continues to improve!! He said she is talking more and more and is feeling better!! I caught him finishing up lunch at their church so the conversation was short, but good! He sounded really good. I'm so thankful.
Hugs everybody and thanks for all the cards going out; She's going to love that. Smile

All,
Sorry for the delay. Life is getting in more of a routine while I squeeze in some work. Thanks to Traci for reminding me to get back online. Deb is the blogger/writer.... in the family, I on the other hand do my best to just walk & talk at the same time.
Deb's mom is home so I have more help and Deb continues to progress. We have continued her treatment, so I get 2-3 days where I can't tell much. But today is day 4. We went for our walk, Deb talked a lot of the way. She is communicating much better now. When she is most rested she can carry on conversations. Whole sentances. She feeds herself with much less to the dog :-). We went to Carol's symphony practice & Deb was keeping time to the music & enjoying it.
I used to hear of people with brain injuries who they say are "trying to rewire their brains" I see that in deb's activities of "writing". She writes paragraphs of "words" It looks like jibberish but as I study it, I can almost read it. It's like she is trying to break through.
She is now even more stubborn. I have a hard time getting her to do what I want when she decides to do something. Another Great Sign! (but occasional pain for me :-)
I'm getting more hopeful that one of these days she will be back. She has also started using some of our standard answers. When I ask her if she is ready to leave..."Are you ready" She comes back with our standard reply of "I was born ready". That is Deb shining through. So I know we are getting closer!
Thanks again for all the prayers & well wishes.
