I agree it would have been so optimal to get the translators out of harms way from the very start of the wind-down.

Like all of the Peace Corps volunteers who served during those last years, I was in Kabul. A few volunteers who were close to completing service were in provincial areas but most were in Kabul. Kabul even in its best days barely resembled a provincial capital. It was not an easy place to live but I gained far more than I gave and am forever grateful to the people of Afghanistan for making me into an adult.
It is upsetting to think about all the Afghans who helped the US being left behind. The Taliban will not be merciful.

Opinion: Trump's Threats Against Members of Law Enforcement Are "Incredibly Dangerous"
Trump's words are not simply dangerous for the Capitol Police, they are further attempts to incite his followers to violence against anyone he deems is a member of the "radical left."

The people who are unhappy when they are poor would be unhappy if they were rich, and they who are happy in a palace in Paris would be happy in a dug-out on the frontier of Dakota. There are as many unhappy rich people as there are unhappy poor people. Every heart knows its own bitterness and its own joy. Not that wealth and what it brings is not desirable—books, travel, leisure, comfort, the best food and clothing, agreeable companionship—but all these do not necessarily bring happiness and may coexist with the deepest wretchedness, while adversity and penury, exile and privation are not incompatible with the loftiest exaltation of the soul. -John J. Ingalls

and some of the greatest examples of this and all Reps.

Typical behavior...
This has disappeared from the Reps. web pages.

I agree. It has been hard to watch so many of these people ( Delta DeSantis ) be themselves, but at least they are in fact showing their TRUE colors. If the orange thing is worth anything it is the fact that he turned all those Reps. loose to finally be themselves a now we know exactly who does not deserve the office they have right now.
-
You can say that again and we are fortunate that it happens to be Pres. Biden with so much experience.

Tommorow Commisioners meet to appoint a new person to the District Health Board. They did not renew one person because he offered opinions and advice which disagreed with the chair's policy and he wants someone "outside" the circle. They are considering one DR who Rx's dog dewormer for covid and does not see the need for masks, and claims that the vaccines have killed thousands. Hopefully they will not pick him, but it gets redder here every day.

RON BE GONE
County next to me, Tampa. 7th largest school district in country.

Spookiesmom: My sympathies and I hope all those who are quarantined survive this exposure. RON BE GONE is a great slogan. Perhaps you could have one of the tropical storms blow him out to sea? What a waste of a human being he is.

The true end of education is not only to make the young learned, but to make them love learning; not only to make them industrious, but to make them love industry; not only to make them virtuous, but to make them love virtue; not only to make them just, but to make them hunger and thirst after justice. -John Ruskin

Blue Girl and Spookie -- such madness everywhere. Just as it was so hard to believe a con-man lunatic would get to 'act' like a president for four yrs. so it is hard to accept and have to be a part of the total stupidity of some many people. Some are just so hell bent on being the BEST Reps. ever they are flying blind I do believe. Not willing to question, nor have a reasonable opinion of any kind other than that catering to hero worship for the vote of the orange guy's people. Willing even to let their own people die for it. Always amazing, definitely frightening.
I guess we are going to be stuck with this til' the Reps. get hammered into the ground. Just hope that the right ones do.

Oh so true.

In all honesty, I don't know enough about the situation in Afghanistan to comment on much about it.
On the kids heading back to school, it is a damn shame they are the ones dealing with fall-out from adults pandering to orange cheeto. Could you imagine if the general public had raised this kind of fuss when the polio vaccine came out? It might never have been eradicated if they acted like they are with the Covid vaccine! All this resistance to the vaccine is orange blight's fault, along with the fox talking heads who reinforce that rhetoric and the other Republican politicians who blather on about not getting it. They all ought to be ashamed of themselves, but sadly, they probably sleep like babies, without concern.
And as reported by CBS: "[Doctors] are tired of saying the same thing to people who often times don't want to listen, don't believe the virus is real, don't want the vaccine, and then walk in here and ask for treatment," David Begnaud says, as Louisiana hits the highest hospitalization rate since the pandemic began..

Love Lincoln Project. They do a lot of this.

'Thoughts, prayers', and pulling up the incantation again.....

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

As I live and breathe, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy as they say although to us he is mainly a dumb a**licker who is in love with orange and himself. You really have to want a position bad to do what he is willing to do to children. He is both deplorable and despicable. I hope he gets the company of R. DeSantis as well -- and I hope they both are sicker than they have ever been.

But Abbott was vaccinated. If he gets really sick then I’m afraid that some will take this as a sign that vaccines don’t work and use that as an excuse for not getting vaccinated.
