So..... the DR claiming vaccines has killed thousands and prescribes dog dewormer got appointed to the District Health board here. I thought the news said that he and his family have been vaccinated. I want to scream. We get redder and deader every day. Local hospitals are expressing concerns over the rising numbers and in some cases have postponed "elective" surgery. A few school districts are mandating masks. NO doubt the legislature will ban mandates. So we will carry poop bags as proof of taking dog dewormer rather than vaccine cards.

Oops -- I wasn't aware that Abbot was vaccinated but the minute I read it I recalled that most of those yelling the loudest ( whether willing to own up or not ) have gotten the vaccine. You are right of course.

Afghanistan is close to my heart as it changed me forever. I will say that the US has never had a true understanding of Afghan culture and particularly its tribal nature. No, I am not a foreign policy expert but I lived there for two years. I did not live in a diplomatic enclave nor did I have privileges associated with foreign service employees. As a Peace Corps volunteer I lived in an average neighborhood among Afghans.

Whatever it was we hoped to accomplish there, it was not what the Afghans themselves were willing to fight for. Yes, we managed to kill Bin Laden but a society that is essentially tribal has little use for a democratic central government. All those girls who want to go to school? Even in the best of times, only a minority of woman were educated and they were mostly those who were more well off in urban areas. Chaderi (burqa) were always worn by some women. Again, less common in the city but you never had to look far to see a woman wearing one. Hasn't their history with foreigners taught us anything?

I am glad we got out without more US military sacrificing their lives. I am very unhappy about the unfolding tragedy of getting those who helped the US effort out. To say I was surprised by the swiftness with which Kabul was taken would be a lie. What I was surprised by was our failure to recognize that this was a real possibility. Kabul jahn, faramosh na kadom (Dear Kabul, I will not forget you). That's a transliteration of Dari. The other main language is Pashto, which I don't speak at all.

PS: Yes, some Afghans want democracy but most can't really conceive of it. Remember, the few years of a nominal democracy wereheaded by President Daoud. He was the brother in law of the king he deposed. Not very Democratic, was it?

Afghanistan. No outside power has ever had whatever they thought was success happen. From Alexander the Great, through various colonial powers like Britain, the Russians. Why does the USA want to enforce American democracy on the rest of the world ? That conceit/concept is laughable in the face of what is happening now in the USA. Faux News is disgusting. Give me an "invasion" of Afghans over a bunch of brain dead Trump supporters any time.

Vaccines: don't get me started. I am so sick of anti-maskers/anti-vaxxers.

Ego could be defined as whatever covers up basic goodness. From an experiential point of view, what is ego covering up? It's covering up our experience of just being here, just fully being where we are, so that we can relate with the immediacy of our experience. Egolessness is a state of mind that has complete confidence in the sacredness of the world. It is unconditional well being, unconditional joy that includes all the different qualities of our experience. -Pema Chodron

Joe Biden Is Cleaning Up Donald Trump's Mess In Afghanistan

Officials say that Trump committed the US to leaving Afghanistan but had no plan in place for the withdrawal, which means Afghanistan is another Trump mess.

I think this is pretty much how things are. Bush ( Dubya ) got the whole thing going way back when, and the orange fool set up the Taliban to receive the keys to the door. The news medias are working overtime it would seem ( even some of the ones we trust a wee bit more ) to point their fingers to Pres. Biden. Along with the other set-ups that the orange one's minions helped put in place is this one. The name of the game became use what you can to make the Democratic president fail. That has been I think something of a real burden, but sadly covid and Afghanistan progress is evident. In the end I do think it will be possible to point fingers where the actual blame is -- but I worry if the truth will come in the best time for it to. Always an issue for the Democrats who believe too easily at times that people will tend to play fair. A big review of how Reps. have been on this issue should be front and center a lot more and the Democrats should take every advantage that presents itself -- because that is just what the competition does w/o the least qualm.

May be an image of text that says 'Middle Age Riot @middleageriot Pinocchio is a puppet who became a real little boy. Sean Hannity is a pile of shit who stayed that way.'

Read this morning parts of an interview that the orange one did with Hannity. The consensus seemed to be that not only did the orange one looked awful ( though I couldn't tell much from the pictures I saw ) but that he was off the wall in many of his meandering little rants. Hannity did have a look a couple of times as though he 'wished' things weren't being expressed in a fashion that made the orange one seem as loony as he is. Some things just don't change and it is easy to see why the orange one's handlers try so hard to be careful lately. You risk a lot when you let this guy loose now. He tells on himself half the time and the rest of the time just sounds crazy and dis-connected.

You know, if I didn’t see DeSantis and Abbott behaving like this with my own eyes or hear them with my own ears, I would truly think someone was making this up. It really and truly defies belief.

I was wondering when this trend would start. I'm sure other private practices will follow suit.

An Alabama doctor watched patients reject the vaccine. Now he won't treat them.

Can't resist -- I'm for that Dr. as well. Thought all along that those who have tried the hardest are still being put at risk by the foolish people who have to be good REPS. or whatever it is they think they are doing. In any case, maybe if they are told by their Dr.'s to go fly a kite they will possibly decide to be as serious as their Dr. is being over their health.

I do realize there are heavy loads of disinformation daily, but most people have had time to get real facts. I do believe in the oath Dr.'s take, but maybe people need to take an oath to do their level best to do no harm. Life has become in some ways so much easier now that diseases aren't rampant because they were wiped out yrs. ago that way too many have the choice to be grossly irresponsible. While I know it happens on all sides, I will say that the Reps. have a vested interest in slowing down the eradication ( if possible ) of covid and any other success that Pres. Biden could have. I really do think of them with a real evil streak as their gluttony for power even extends to the point of sacrificing many of their own.

I did read earlier that a huge majority of the American people are happy with Pres. Biden's handling of Afghanistan. He did inherit it as a super mess from the orange one and he is letting the BUCK rest in the O. Office with him which garners I'm sure so much respect. I hope it can get better, but it is quite a mess with no clear way as yet to get the people who were promised asylum for their work with us out.

May be an image of one or more people and text that says 'Scott Charles @TheScottCharles I wear a mask because if the experts are correct, I could potentially prevent someone from getting sick and dying. If the experts are wrong, the most I'm out iS the inconvenience of wearing a piece of fabric on my face. I often wonder who raised some y'all. of'

I have been wearing my mask in most stores again. We have gone into a few restaurants, but only if the patrons are very sparse or there is outdoor seating. I'm not thrilled about the mask but not because I mind so much wearing it. It is a bit more challenging with glasses plus a hearing aid in each ear. Sometimes the ear strap even falls off -- other times the hearing aids get entangled in the straps. Still I'm okay with it. Small price to pay for the safety of others and even myself. I'm hoping not to have to worry about breakthrough variants

We will be due for third ( booster ) shots on Nov 4th. We will get them as soon as we can after that date.

Thanks, Illinois! I wore a mask again to the grocery store today. I wouldn't do it to protect the unvaccinated by choice crowd, but I don't want to get some stupid variant from one of them.

I don't wear my mask for the idiots who aren't interested in protecting their own health either, but they do bring their kids with them in a lot of places and I would do it for the kids. I hope they can grow up ( even go back to school ) and hopefully with school boards who will in fact not follow the " Governor " mandates that say no masks allowed, or even put it in their dress codes etc. will help those kids have a little more chance to stay well.

Makes me long so for those who are in charge of indictments that will take the Trump family and remove them from society as soon as possible because sadly the orange thing is still having way too much influence. I think most of the idiot Reps. are going to have the rug pulled completely out from under them before they wise up.

    Yes, ouch, the pain!

For awhile people around here went maskless and now I see more wearing them. Store employees at various places also are wearing them. Because of the meds I take, I was able to get a booster shot already. I jokingly told ds, “I’ve had the Covid and three vaccine shots. If the ‘rona gets me now, it’s my time to go!”

In all seriousness, I’m still being cautious when out and about and social distance. I wear a mask sometimes and still hand wash and hand sanitize. Shopping early to avoid crowds was always my thing so I still do that although the pandemic altered my shopping habits and I do a lot on line.
