hahahaha leggo!
I watched Romper Room. I always felt so dejected when they didn't call my name. I'd sit there so hopeful....then....nothing.
-
I know!!! It was almost cruel not to here your name.
-
wow Ducky,u picked a winner...
Lots of new faces
And sooo much fun
Who wanted little JOE?
Well he was mine...
-
In between the Saturday morning cartoons.....a little accidental education.
-
He's mine FK. LOL Two NY gals duking it out for Little Joe. Too funny!
-
WOW. I forgot about School House Rock.
-

Oh all the TV shows.....remember them well.....we had 13 channels, aerial on the roof, and also at one point Rabbit Ears we called them......plus how about the piece of plastic we put in front of the TV tha had colors on it, and we though we had colored TV........everything was green, pink, blue, and purple...............LOL....and if you had bigger then a 10 inch TV you were rich.....then if you had real color.............You had a lot of company...........LOL
-
I really want to say something here........
The idea for this thread was suggested by one of our "sisters" posting on here..............her name is "Slow Deep Breaths", or as i call her Beppy............I take no credit for this thread.............she is the one with the "thought", and the "brain storm"................I told her to "go for it"........she said "oh no".........I thought.........too great an idea to pass up......
Soooooooooo.......thanks Slow (Beppy) for the suggestion..........you deserve all the credit for the suggestion.......a little for me for the starting of it........but "you sisters" for making it the success it has become in such a short time.......Love you all..........Keep the fun coming..........we need it..........laughter is the best medicine...............hugs.
-
You're a sweetheart Ducky. But, there's no credit here. It's just a fun way to forget about our aches and pains for awhile!! You're the one that knows almost everyone on BCO.
Besides, who better to start a thread than the......prettiest, smartest, funniest, sexiest.....and a member of the Mile High club?
-
Great idea ladies. Let's have TWO MEMORY THREADS going. Twice as fun. And if no one wants to take the credit, I don't mind mentioning that I suggested it to NativeMainer over four years ago. I guess it is nostalgic minds thinking alike, or something.
-
Oh no elimar!! I even did a search for something like this. Shows you how good my searching skills are!!
Jeez....now I feel bad that I missed that!! What a great idea you had!!!!!
Edited to add: It's my fault, not Duckys. I take full responsibility for the double thread. I should have looked better. Sorry to have offended anyone.
-
It is a great thread.......on other threads STFU....Bonfire of the Goddesses.......Thinking Out Loud.....Hermits ....we often talk of things past............but this is the first time a thread was started to talk just about that.............and it turned out great...............
-
Thank you, Slow. Well, I did link to it on the first page of this thread.
Look, this is the story. I have the Middle-Aged Women thread, right? So, everyone there was going down memory lane, way back four and a half years ago. Rather than fill that thread with the many nostalgic ramblings of the mind, and because that thread has so many other tangents we go off on, I remarked that "memories" could be it's own topic. Native said, "Good idea, why don't we make one" to which I replied that I had my hands full hosting one active thread and that she should do it. She did, and a thread was born.
I'm not looking to rain on any memory parades here, but this thread was getting so congratulatory and self-congratulatory; so in the same self-congratulatory spirit I did feel like setting the record straight. Think what you will about that. (I already post on the "Vain" thread.) Repetitiveness aside, it looks like there will be two threads going down memory lane now. Yes, a lot of overlap, but to be honest you have had a few things (I remember now that I had that Coty Sweet Earth fragrance compact!) we didn't get around to mentioning in 80 pages, so they won't be quite the same, will they? Have fun.
-
Who ran to the store for these goodies.........
-
I think I may have just heard it all. Ducky, Slow....it's been great fun. So sorry you were meant to feel bad about starting this particular thread. That it was their idea first is a seriously trivial thing to point out. Who cares?
-
Leggo, I care. Which is why I gave the facts. This thread is not the first, but the second.
Don' t spin it that duckyb and Slow are the only persons with feelings. Did it occur to you that I have them as well? Or are you saying you care only about the feelings of duckyb and Slow? Is that what you mean, and you can certainly feel that way, I don't think that is right. You are not that way, are you?
duckyb doesn't have to feel bad for starting the thread. Slow doesn't have to feel bad about having the idea. elimar doesn't have to feel bad about setting the chronology straight. leggo doesn't have to feel bad about anything. Even calling my comment trivial. I've already called myself vain (and worse, elsewhere.)
Leggo, you and anyone that feels the need to rush in to "defend" duckyb or this thread need not bother. You cannot argue with the accuracy of the information I provided. How 'bout everyone just have fun with the memories now? Conversely, if you have a real beef with me, air it all in a PM to me. I do not feel bad about anything I have written so far, but I will feel bad if I detract any further from the memories on this thread. That is not my intention. Carry on. Enjoy.
-
OMG!! Gym suits!!! You had to either embroider or glue white letters on the back to spell out your last name... And if by any chance you took it home on Friday to wash it, and forgot, you had a stinky, wrinkled mess on Monday, and everybody knew it.
Now, can I admit something? I always thought Romper Room was a LOCAL show, and all the kids' names who were called went to my school!
Romper, bomper, stomper, boo......
-
Love this thread and LOVED Double Bubblegum. I was only allowed Juicy Fruit gum. I have no idea why.
-
BTW, those gym suits must have been the North American style because we had them in Canada too. No wonder I hated gym.
-
What a great thread! 'Romper, bomper, stomper, boo. Tell me, tell me, tell me do. Magic Mirror, tell me today, have all my friends had fun at play?' I was devastated if they didn't call my name. LOL! Anyone from the Midwest where we had Miss Frances and Ding Doing School?
-
I don't remember Ding Dong School - I'm east coast. But I did buy my kids Romper Stompers. Not really sure what I was thinking....
I loved double bubble but it makes my jaw ache just looking at the picture. I think I ate just as much paper as candy with those dot things!
-
Jr. High gym suits were the worst! Just when you are trying your best to look exceptionally cute for the guys, you are forced into those gosh awful suits!
-
Oh, the candy! I loved candy. We ate these until we wore of the roofs of our mouths.
-
Our gym suits had to be ironed! Back then we were involved with the Presidents physical fitness program. You earned gold, blue, red or no patch depending on how athletic you were. I hated gym class!
-
I remember the gym suits.......oh Lord were they awful..............I had one like that, but the legs were more like bloomers.......so what we would do was tuck them under a few times, and they would look much smaller.funny thing is we tucked them under our underwear....but it worked...........now the name..........we had sewing class, and the first thing you had to do was to embroider your name across the front of the gym suit.........
I was and still am from the east coast but I do remember Ding Dong School too..maybe because I lived in a big city Phila......we got the channel it was on.....but usually it was Romper Room......now my kids watched this.....now 56, 55, 54.......the latter 3 did not get to see it...........
Peeing my pants over the Romper Stompers.....at the time my first 3 were 1 year apart........each had the Romper Stompers............the kids were 5, 4, 3..........hardwood floors, each one funning from the front of the house to the back.............drove me nuts.....can anyone say .HEADACHE at 9am.........LOL
-
-
I also watched Ding Dong School and when I tell people who are not familiar with it they seem to think it may explain a few things about me!
-
Well, at least the gym suits were hideous on everyone! Most of ours had the elastic in the legs that looked like bloomers. Some of the younger girls eventually got the ones with cuffs that looked something like shorts...but not me! Mine looked a lot like this, only more faded.
-
AZ..........LOL.......that is mine........and I rolled the legs under so they were shorter..........LOL
-
I rolled them under too
I thought it was a Brooklyn thing,,lol
