THE WAY WE WERE......LOOKING BACK IS FUN
Hi ladies......while talking about sunscreen I was thinking about how we use to use Baby Oil and Iodine......then a though came to mine........How about sharing our pictures and thoughts about THE WAY WE WERE........old toys we played with......old commercials.........old TV shows............Toys we bought our kids..............anything old, that would give us a good memory, or a good laugh, and funny stories are welcome too..........
What do you say...........Let's go back to THE WAY WE WERE.......Put this in your favorites.

Ok, I'll start it off with this one.....my kids loved it......

Hi ducky. It's so odd you'd post this today because hubby and I were just talking about how everything has changed so drastically since we were kids. Some things for the better some not. We talked about how we used to sleep on the parcel shelf in our old land yachts when we were little on family road trips. Bike helmets were only for motorcycles? Yikes! How our parents never had to worry about us when we were out...now I wouldn't dare let a kid out alone and always sleep with one eye open until their return.
How ridiculous our clothes were. Remember palazzo pants? Star jeans? Nylon puma running shoes? Square-flare pants?
I, too this day, remember my very favourite X-mas presents. My vanity, hand-made by my daddy, Digger the Dog, and Barbie's Country Camper. That thing was so cool. Lawn chairs, fold out tent, and enough accessories to keep me playing for hours. Oh, and my Mod Hair Ken. How could I forget him? My walls were covered in Donny Osmond posters and I knew every single thing about him. Still remember purple was his favourite color. Good times.
-
Oh, and Jesus sandals? Earth shoes? My gawd, they were ugly. GWG lace-up jeans. Department store windows. Loved those.
-
Don't let the title fool you...you will remember just about everything here...pages and pages of it:
-
Love this topic Ducky. I remember my mom used to use this on every cut I got as a kid. I was always covered in red!
Does anyone else remember this? I always thought it looked worse than the cut.
-
OMG.........I am loving this..............l
Leggo, a blast from the past......this is going to be a fun thread.........LOVE IT>>>>>>.let's keep it going.........invite others to join................This is going to be a blasst.......
-
Slow.......I do remember the orange red stuff..........it was called Mercurachrome......the only reason we agreed to that was it did not burn like Iodine........LOL.........
Does anyone remember this crap in people's mouths....they looked like they had the "ROT"
-
Hey Ladies......forgot to say WELCOME to the thread..............so glad you dropped in.........pull up a chair and sit a spell..................your gonna like it here................as Granny would say "ya'll come back now..ya hear......
-
Aw ducky.....so awesome of you to hunt down those pictures! Thanks!
WTH is that gentian violet stuff? That's horrible! I've never seen that in my life. What was a baby's response to that? I'm guessing not good, if that expression says anything.
-
I remember the Jesus sandles came with directions to soak them for an hour, put them on your feet and leave them on for four hours! Such a sucker I was. -
Now that is more my day I guess, but I know they used it a lot..............Babies would get (and pretty much anyone) something called ............Thrush...........or ......Trench Mouth.............it was like a "yeast infection" ...........in the mouth.............that is what they used back then........and it worked........but boy did the kids look scary for a while till it cleared up.................no hiding you had a problem......LOL
I think they even used it for something called "foot and mouth" disease, ...........I guess that comes from always "sticking your foot in your mouth" which I am good at................LOL
-
Leggo...........love the pictures.............you got the idea........this is gonna be fun.........hugs
-
And some things never go out of style. Still wear them to this day.
Only now they come in the most awesome colors. -
Had pneumonia when I was 10 and guess what I got.
-
GMa..........love it girlfriend.......hope your doing better.........
My grandmother use to make her own.................she burnt the shit out of us more then one time.........she and my mother used that, and this.........he latter I still do......
-
This IS fun! So many trips down memory lane. Remember Go-Go boots? Angel tops? Disco earrings? I inherited those boots from the neighbour's eldest daughter. I wore those things until there was nothing left. My growing feet didn't even fit them anymore but I shoved them in anyway.
-
this is a great forum.. I know all of the items except for the violet stuff for thrush.. Thanks Ducky for starting this.
-
WOW.......so glad this is taking off......pass the word, tell everyone.........by the way for the people who know our "lady Slow" she is the one who made the suggestion......she just gave me the ball to run with..........
I remember the boots.....my daughter now 54, had a pair exactly like them......she too never took them off..........LOL.......her little sister then then 3 years old, had a pairin black patent leather........she actually slept in them....If I can find a picture of her in them I will post it.....LOL
Crog, so glad your enjoying this thread........I am too...........love to look back at things from the past............
Pass the word to other threads.......let them know they are welcome........hugs ladies.........

-
Now I know some of you remember these..........
They cost a nickel to play your favorite song...............you walked to it when you wanted some good looking guy to notice you.........otherwise you sat in the booth and fed the machine from there....just like this...........................you could buy a coke, and a bag of chips for 15 cents, and sit all night..........

Cool. On one of our road trips we stopped at a liitle diner that had individual ones on the tables. Those were the most awesome thing to little kid.
Those go-go boots had some staying power. Your daughter being 54 and I'm 48.
Anybody remember those funnel neck jackets? We used to call them E.T. jackets. Yeesh, they were ugly.
-
omg leggo I had one of those in wool (synthetic wool like) and on the flip side of the funnel neck was a nice burgundy color - stylin' LOL

I remember earth shoes! When I moved from New York to California I was 14. In New York we wore boots that looked like boy boots. When I moved to California I got made fun of so bad. My accent and my shoes. That's when I got my first pair of Earth Shoes!! They no longer made fun of my shoes - but boy did I catch hell for my accent!!
Here is another blast from the past.
Remember these cameras??
-
fun topic ladies!
-
I posted this on another thread. This was my all time favorite doll. You'd pull the string in her belly and her legs would move.
Thumbelina Doll

I used to put my Barbies on the turnstyle and start them off at 33, switching to 78.....then I'd watch them fly off the turnstyle.
I really hope I'm not the only one that ever did that.
