Hi hermits- just a quick hi to say the first night of the jazz festival was fabulous. It featured Trombone Shorty, who is just the most amazing horn player, singer and dancer! He also had guest John Boutte, who is a New Orleans vocalist and who wrote and performed the theme song for "Treme" on HBO, if you watched any of that while it was running. Both Trombone Shorty and Boutte were on that show performing through several seasons. They were rocking the jazz festival last night, and brought the house down!
This morning gift as I drank my coffee and looking out over the lake, there were two young bucks who came up through the meadow right in front of the house. So lovely. Lots of wildlife up here from bald eagles, to deer, to magpies and chipmunks. We are still hopeful to see some bighorn sheep, which are common in the Rockies.
Here is the view from the house. Did not have my better camera this morning upstairs to get any decent pics of the deer. I will let you imagine them coming up through that meadow.

Jazzy, having a good time with such lovely scenery!
Hope friend is feeling OK ;o)
-
Jazzy, what a wonderful combination of scenery and music and spa time.

Teka- friend is not really feeling all that great with the dental issue, but the plans this week just got adapted to address that and not overdo. We are focused more on ensuring we get to the jazz festival events, as that is what initiated this whole thing!
I was going to try to see an old friend who lives in Aspen today, but realized in the end it was not going to happen with all the other stuff going on. Because we are up in the mountains and much further from downtown that I was expecting, just not any real easy way to connect with her this visit. So I will just have to see her another time. I just had to let that one go today in the end....
Traveling has it's fun times and it's unexpected challenges as you probably all know. Going with the flow and going to head out shortly to see Diana Krall!
-
Sorry that friend still has a dental problem
(
Enjoy the evening)

Teka, good morning to you too. I am waking a little late. Two cups of coffee late yesterday afternoon kept me awake a little late last night. I just read.
Cami, glad to hear you slept well. Any special summer plans for today?
Jazzy, thinking of your friend ... how was last night's event?
DH and I are going to his DD and DSIL's for dinner. We are passing along an adirondack chair that DH made years ago. It needs painting but DD wants it anyway. Our patio was feeling overstuffed. The other chairs are more comfortable for our senior bodies.
-
Well, I figured out how to insert the picture but not how to make it smaller or type beneath it. How do I do those things?
-
Good morning hermits- happy summer solstice! Longest daylight of the year. I hope you all have some nice time outside this evening!
Diana Krall concert was fabulous. She is SUCH a great pianist, vocalist and had a wonderful band (bass, guitar and drums). Really great evening of music. Got home late, and to bed after midnight and feeling tired today. All the late nights of music (mostly late night from the drive back from Aspen that takes us a good hour) have me tired!
One more day here, and Steve Winwood tonight to wrap up the festival. Then, we will be leaving in the morning to head back (8 hours drive), so I will check in with you all and have more pics to share when I get home.
Oh and I got a call from someone about yet another work opp too! Going to call him first thing Monday morning!
-
Jazzy, I was composing while you posted. Glad to hear that the concert last night was another great one. I hope your friend is able to help with the driving tomorrow ... am thinking she might be on pain pills. Also, happy to hear that you will have a choice about where and with whom to work next.
-
Oh Jazzy that sounds marvelous! I love Diana Krall, I have 4 of her albums on my phone. Very soothing. And Stevie Winwood! I still have Winwood on vinyl! (Somewhere) I liked Blind Faith best — Can't Find My Way Home, and of course Traffic. Maybe I'll download some Winwood today. Ah, those were the days. So glad you're enjoying yourself. Was Krall's husband (Elvis Costello) on backup?
Drive safely, going home.
-
Mags- Elvis nowhere in sight, but she talked about having her twin boys with her on the trip, so my guess is he was watching the kids while she performed.
Sally- I hope my friend allows me to help with driving tomorrow. So far she has wanted to do all the driving herself (her car). She has been taking some pain pills at night, Advil during the day.
-
Oh this has been a wonderful trip for u Jazzy and u'r not home and u get a call for something new. See I knew it.Just be safe and load up the pics when u come home, u know how I enjoy them.
