There are obviously many technical issues here but in my limited way, I have always managed to sign in and read any forum or thread I desire. I believe there are multiple issues here and not feeling safe on BCO, I have still spoken up. I can predict exactly who and what will be said. But I have never stopped advocating for what I believe. New posters often lurk to test the waters. They could not possibly miss this thread and the anger and hostility. They will never feel safe here. And add to this the hostility directed towards newbies by long timers on here for saying anything that does not sit well with them, there is no wonder the numbers are way down. Newbies have been attacked for saying “we” instead of I, for stating that they need to survive for their children and for exhibiting health anxiety disorders. And for thinking pink is pretty. Let’s forget about what we cannot control, but take responsibility for what we can. Navigate the threads and support each other. Create an environment of safety and acceptance. If BCO cannot do this, we can.

TB90, Respectfully. You need to move on from your obssession with a few members who you feel picked on you years ago and pay attention to the many members you have just dismissed with your post above. Newbies are not coming here for obvious reasons (again READ) and not because of things that hurt your feelings.

an eye roll is considered lateral violence. Please look up the definition. As a professional advocate and not feeling safe here, a complete revision of behaviour and standards should take place rather than blaming all on the mods and iT. I won’t carry on here wasting others time and carrying on the negativity. Please just take some time to look at how our behaviour is responsible for the impact on this forum

tb90 - This is the thread for technical issues, not a thread to declare grievances against other forum members. Please stop telling us not to post to this thread for site issues. The latest wave of posts were triggered by moth's passing when her family found it easier to post updates in multiple sites except BCO. Your focus seems to be on newbies whereas I want everyone to be able to access and navigate the site with ease.

Then stick to technical issues and stop the personal attacks. The wording used here is appalling.

This is not a technical issue. You seem to want a fight, but you’ll have to find someone else.

We understand all members have a high level of frustration but we'd like to remind you that this thread is intended to report technical glitches. Thank you all for your assistance in this!

And... There goes this thread, now turned into something personal instead of a place to vent about the technical problems on this site. Over six months and hundreds of posts, and THAT'S what will kill this thread and possibly the site. Not with a bang.

The only response I can think of at the end of a long day & reading all these posts is to cry.

Mods - AGAIN - could you not just pick one thing that people have requested and 'show the faith' to the community by fixing ONE TINY thing? Forget the promises or the new platform or the negativity. Can't you PLEASE give us one positive "correction" to all the problems?

Edited to say: Can you not pick one TECH GLITCH and fix it??

“A whining snit”. How do you feel that this language is ok? It won’t fix the technical issues if this is really the issue. It is simply cruel and mean. It is bullying. I don’t want to create more issues for the mods as I want them to focus on the serious issues, but there are the same few in here that are making BCO unsafe. That is the real issue. And it existed prior to the changes. My feelings cannot be hurt by bullies and I do not whine. I speak up where and when others are afraid to do so. I refuse to accept the group here that dominate and hurt others with their words. Let’s stop blaming others to avoid the real issues that exist in BCO. Good night. It is a beautiful night here in northern Manitoba with northern lights and I refuse to waste another moment. Thanks Illimae for your beautiful rainbows and soul. You are why I cannot quite leave.

STOP, STOP, STOP - JUST STOP. BITE YOUR TONGUES AND PUT IT DOWN. NO ONE NEEDS TO HAVE THE LAST WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mods - you'll notice I edited my last post since i felt your comment was directed to me personally. I mean only to hope we could get ONE glitch fixed as a show of good faith - and to keep us hanging on.

So I have been asked not to poke the bear. To let the unrelentless lay silent. Isn’t this just the new way of our world. Appease the loudest. Ignore the obvious. But I have spent four decades fighting for what needs to be said, whether popular or not. I do not have a forum here so I will leave. I have tried to many times but my heart was here with a few members and the posters with mental health issues.

As the rest of you, I fear I may need a forum like this is the future. I have had two other cancers. But it is not the cancer that scares me the most, it is the attitude. With kindness and love, I can cope with anything. Be kinder please. Be intolerant of anything less. Thanks for 9 years.

"I mean only to hope we could get ONE glitch fixed as a show of good faith - and to keep us hanging on."

I nominate adding "My Favorites" to the dropdown menu from the Community link on the initial post-log-in screen. It will only be one or two lines of code, easily copied from the left menu in the forum. This would be a (1) simple change that would be (2) highly noticeable and (3) improve the experience for every user.

    Just. Do. That.

Mods, would you be able to give us an update on what is going on behind the scenes? Much of the frustration you see on this thread is happening because people don't know where things stand.

    Hi All,

We completely understand all the frustrations.

We are diligently working on fixing all the reported issues while simultaneously working on the migration to a new platform. The goal is to have a wonderful new community platform, with all the glitches fixed as soon as possible. We will continue to communicate any and all updates the minute we really have enough information.

We feel your grievances, however contentious comments and name-calling is unacceptable, and will be deleted. It is hurtful, takes away our time and leaves an ill feeling in the entire community. We are all eager to have the repairs made, AND be on a beautiful and useful new platform. We all agree that the current situation is not acceptable, and would love your support and trust that we are working on this as fast and carefully as possible.

    With respect,

    The Mods

Mods, I'm sure you understand how those with cancer worry about what is to come (scanxiety?). Since the diagnosis came at us out of nowhere and threw us into panic we are all very sensitive about expectations. The frustration (for me) is due to your vague "updates".

I think letting us know if you anticipate that it will be a week, month, 6 months, a year would go a long way to decreasing the frustration.

    Thanks

My question too - can you at least provide some kind of realistic time table. Hope you can this week.

It used to be that the menu stayed on the left side of the page no matter where you were at on the forum. If you needed to search something, click on the Search button on the left. If you wanted to scroll All Topics after that, click that link on the left. My Favorites was there as well. It's infinitely frustrating to continually have to click open the menu every time you want to navigate the site. That was not an improvement but a downgrade. It reduced the ease of use.

That, along with the convoluted number of steps simply to log made the new format immediately cumbersome. Why did those in charge think that was acceptable and even an upgrade? Weren't we even told that there had been some kind of trial run, a beta testing of sorts, where select members tried the new site and weren't we told it met their approval? Small faded gray font and all? Seriously? How? What would be the reason anyone would want their website to need five or more clicks just to log on? I'm also frustrated because there is no box to click to stay logged on. Every time I visit the site, the whole rigamarole to sign in begins again. On what level did that make sense to anyone in charge?

To those complaining that we are complaining, imo, the site managers expected the mostly women members would be complacent and not complain, accepting what was offered. We're not here to keep sweet when things are not acceptable. We are members who have a voice. We use those voices to call attention to problems that need fixed. We want a user friendly forum that operates effectively for any woman or man dealing with breast cancer to use and benefit from. The current forum is not that.

    Mods,

I worry that you emphasize repairs here. The convoluted navigation issues are the result of BCO's design changes to give the site the minimalist look similar to the other sites your consultants have created. They are not in tune with your target audience who are older and likely suffering from treatment effects. I bring this up to remind you that the minimalist design is not functional. That is not beautiful or useful.

Divine - If you're on an iPad, the menu should appear on the left if you reduce the browser font size (50% if I recall correctly). But then you won't be able to read. 🙃

Yes, we are aware of the navigation issues and our intention is for this to be bettered with the new platform, if not before. Thanks

I still don't understand why the moderators seem to take our complaints so personally. Above, they described them as "hurtful". That implies that they've taken these legitimate grievances about the site and the organization as a whole, personally. I think the moderators are doing what they can within the confines of what the organization allows them to do.
