Thank you for reporting this, Goldie! This issue should now be resolved and resulting in faster load pages and no more timeouts.

Yes Mods, thank you. Site is still a mess. It should not take 5-6 months to fix a site. I'm just glad I can manuever about.

This presentation/menu after we log in after we decide we don't want to change any of our information –requires us to go to Community, then choose Active (or something), then back out and FINALLY get to a place to choose Favorites (and in fact it won't let me copy I paste the menu I'm talking about so I guess I'll type it in)

Why can't COMMUNITY take us directly to the menu below instead of backtracking every time & having to choose 'all' or 'active' and then going backwards to go forwards. All the extra steps are sooooo annoying. I know any number of people who no longer post due to this convoluted way to reach Favorites (and again, it won't let me copy the menu so I'll type it in. This is exactly why I haven't articulated this really annoying feature more often)

Point being - from the first appearance of 'community' - we should go directly to a menu to choose favorites. I'm going to send a PM also. I'm using a desktop computer with Firefox.
-
I continue to experience what minustwo describes as well.
-
I agree!!
-
The change to go to the profile after login was intentional. It's a terrible design decision to make it more complicated to log into the forum. It's also a pitiful design as a landing page.
I've written before that members won't bother to post if it's too much effort. This also means that members won't read PMs, and their families won't be able to navigate the forum because it isn't intuitive.
Note that moth's last post and activity were on August 3rd. If you sent her a PM after that, she never read it. Her family posted updates in multiple sites, but not BCO. Thanks, BCO.
-
OMG Serenity. That posts from Moth is soooooooo Sad. I can live with going directly to the profile - don't like it but I can live with it. I can live with the duplication - do I REALLY want to sign out. Don't like it but I can live with it.
I just really don't understand this one simple thing. When we finally get to "community" - why isn't MY FAVORITES an option there?
Or (and this is cynical) does the site count each double & tripple negotiation to get where we want to be as another "click" - which may be telling them LOTS of users are happy. NOT!!!
Edited for spelling
-
serenity, your post makes me both sad and angry at bco.org. I did not see that last post of moth. I knew things were heading in that direction for her and I did send her a pm. I just went and looked at the date: August 5. This forum failed moth in her dying days after she offered so much of her intellect and insight to helping the members here. It’s tragic.
-
This situation with Moth continues to just be so very sad. And yes, I too am sad, angry, and cynical. And to think that BCO claims to offer "trusted guidance" and "just when we need them most". Where do they come up with this insincere drivel?
Serenity, thanks so much for sharing Moth's final post on here. I hadn't seen it. I did see the posts that TravelText shared from other sites. You have been a real trooper for Moth and that is to be commended.
-
It wasn't just Moth, either. ShetlandPony was terribly frustrated with the site as she approached her last days, too. It's unconscionable. THIS is where we got to know them. THIS is where they gave so much support and wisdom to other members. And THIS is the place that failed them when their friends wanted to say goodbye. I'm sure there have been others who have passed in the SIX MONTHS this site has been a disaster for users.
Any other company or organization would have fired everyone involved in a crapfest that dragged on this long. Who is BCO protecting?
-
BUT, They bumped a 2 year old thread showing an article about grief in the digital era. Was it a deflection from blame to blame the interwebs?
https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/56/topics...
It was a great article originally posted/authored by Traveltext (author of many great articles) so the thread was great but it was interesting timing to bump it.
-
Sadly, I'm beginning to think is as good as it gets.
-
MODS, there used to be a place on the site that told us how many members we had, I can't seem to find that. Can you help?
-
Hi goldie0827,
If you go to the Community Member page - https://community.breastcancer.org/members and look under the search function you will see the total number of members as of today. (241,076 results)

Do you track numbers of active users? I assume the drop in posts is because members are unable to sign in including those who are no longer "members".
I am sure there is a vast difference in numbersin the 6 months since you decided that forum members don't matter.
-
Thank you.
-
Good question Wrenn, I too would like to know how many "active" members there are, since many have not logged in for a long time.
-
Or they create an account and never come back.
Or they may have passed on and account never deleted.
-
I went back to a thread I'd started early this year, shortly before the site imploded. The way the pages are badly configured now, it showed 14 pages of activity. I wonder if that configuration change was to show more pages per topic so BCO could brag about increased activity using that figure instead of number of posts? Anyway, of the people who posted, NINE are no longer active on the site. All but a few of those were long-time members who posted pretty frequently. I don't want to see anything from BCO about "we care about our community." BS.
-
Mods, can you give us an update on when/if things are going to be improved on the discussion boards? I went into the membership roles from my laptop & reached page 5 before I found anyone who had posted in 2022. I love BCO and WANT it to be a place of information and companionship, so I am very unhappy that of all my favorite threads, there is only one that still has what I consider as having 'vibrant' activity. On The Lets Post Our Daily Exercise thread (which is one of my 2 'go to' threads), there are only 3 of us who post regularly any more (and we are Facebook friends, so are getting to the point of 'Why bother?'). That thread used to be so full of people and activity that you could hardly keep up. This situation makes me very, very sad.
-
I so agree with Ruth. I used to read the Exercise thread - and yes you could hardly keep up. No one is posting to the Book thread. Many friends have dropped off the Dinner thread. 10 or 12 people who were very important to me have quit posting because of the hassle. I agree with Ruth. I'm hanging in there by my thumbs, but the camaraderie and the excitement to log on each day is gone. Not to mention that I, along with many others, no longer try to visit the new or active threads to see if we might be able to 'pay it forward' and help a member in distress. That was probably the most valuable part of the site. Sisters helping sisters. Friendships & bonds made & reinforced. You may be able to start over with a bunch of new people if the format & the glitches ever get fixed - but you've pretty much lost the heart & soul of the discussion boards. VERY SAD!!!
-
Someone in a local cancer group mentioned finding this site through Google but after visiting decided it wasn't a very active or useful site to bother accessing again. I am sure she wasn't the only one. I told her it used to be great.
Many 'just diagnosed' people are missing out on information and support that I had when first diagnosed. Shameful that BCO decided that this was the least important part of the site when trying to switch to a money making model. I can't imagine that area of the site is living up to BCO's fantasy.

I made a video of the actual process it takes for me to log in and go to the My Favorites link. I have tried to load it here, it is only 1:32 minutes long, but it says the file is too big. I am on an iPad. Anyone have a suggestion how I could load it here?
On the video, minus the seconds I'm talking at first, the whole process to get to where I want to go takes at least a minute and I lost count of how many steps it took. Honestly, I don't even know how I figured out all the steps. No wonder activity is down! People do not want to jump through hoop after hoop after hoop after hoop like this just to gain access.
-
Sorry Divine, I know nothing about uploading videos, but I do really want to underscore Ruthbru's comments above and those that were posted after. I am in complete agreement with the things everyone has said here.
Some of us really want this site to work, want it back like it was, and are "hanging in" in an effort to see that happen. What the heck was BCO thinking anyway? Poor planning, poor strategizing, poor testing, poor follow-up, just overall poor "leadership" and understanding. So much disconnection between the "leadership" of this organization and reality!
-
I find the disrespect/care shown members from the beginning (6 months tomorrow) is disturbing. If BCO had given warning weeks before that date and said there were about to be some changes members could have set up alternate means of communicating with each other. Instead it just hit us unannounced and many (Shetland comes to mind) could not get in to see if anyone had set up alternates after the shit storm started.
Then to act like they were doing this for us (gaslighting) and calling the problems "glitches" was so insulting to the intelligence of the members. I am happy that some stuck with it since they couldn't afford to lose the connections they had built over the years to help deal with a deadly disease. This is a CANCER forum FFS.
-
I couldn't agree more with what has been said. You've described so well what I have been feeling.
-
I agree with cowgirl about the posts above. And again will mention that a like/love button would be a great addition. (probably sad/cry/angry as well)
-
Sorry zogo - I'm still not in favor of a "like" button. Or any other quick answer buttons. If something resonates with someone, I'd like to see a comment - or nothing.
-
minustwo, well, you're probably in luck then, because I really don't expect to see any added features at this point.
-
Agree with that for sure. Even requests for small changes that might mitigate the extreme dysfunction are apparently off the table.
