Deb, That's a great photo of Rebekah...She exudes such confidence and freedom!

By the way, I am in Needham.

Michelle, thanks for the info on Parker's.

I love that your gk's will be swimming tomorrow...definitely photo worthy during this gift of a week from global warming! I'll bet our Newfound beach is a busy place, too. :)

Joyce- Oh wow, im so sorry, you know they say it comes in 3's i hate hearing that but seems to be what happens sometimes. You have been through so much here lately. Have you noticed that the flight attendants seem to be more humorous, they use to be so stuffy now they crack jokes, i noticed that on my last couple of flights. I like that!

Deb- Such a pretty picture of DD, i bet she is having a great time in the bermudas?

Lacey- Thanks, i will check it out!

Michelle- Cant believe you all are having such great weather and getting tans already, summer is just around the cornor so cant wait. I already lost my tan from hawaii and it was an expensive tan too LOL!

For all those who asked, Chuck is doing a lot better he is still having headaches on the right side of his face and nauseas but feeling better. When he went to work Tuesday his boss was so nice, he was in shock and today he was great too, hmmmm... he feels like he is being set up, LOL!  I told him maybe he is feeling so much stress from the counsil so he was putting pressure on everyone else, dont know but hope he is being sincere, i dont really trust the guy but for now everything is fine.

Deb, ha! That was my dd too, she is also an only. She cried when I picked her up, not when I dropped her off. As she said once, 3 years old, "You know, mommy, I like it when I don't see you ALL the time."

Dinner last nite was rather awful.. mr. apple requested potato and sausage soup and i simply have no appetitie whatsoever..

, i hope tonite's psuedo-mexican will be better.  Anything with cilantro rocks.

Apple:  I love cilantro as well...it's my favorite herb and I would put it in everything, but boyfriend is not as fond of it as I am, so I have to add it only to my dishes.  I know I don't need to tell you this, but you really need to force yourself to eat to keep up your strength...even if it's just small meals all day long.

oh thanks Kaara.. I'll be fine.. it's just those first 3 or 4 days and i can force myself.. Oddly, i have plenty of energy and haven't really lost more than a couple pounds.

I have a cilantro patch.. it is a bit unweildy in that the bunches are not bunches.. i just sprinkle seeds in loose soil all thru the growing season.  i can let it go to seed, but like it tidy. I have an awesome Thai or Vietnamese grower at the city market nearby, and for a buck I can get huge huge bags of cilantro, greens, etc. .

We had such a mild winter that my WHOLE spice garden, every single plant survived.  (have you tried sorrel?  It's wonderful - the plant lasts forever  if you don't let it go to seed.... and just a few leaves add a wonderful sourness to anything.

Deb, that's a gorgeous picture and a gorgeous daughter!  You must be so proud of her.

It's 9:30 am here and you wouldn't believe how dark it is outside.  We're under that big weather system that dumped so much rain on TX.  We've already had about 4 in. of rain.  Luckily no tornadic activity here in our neighborhood, but we heard on the news last night that a subdivision about a mile from us did have some damage.

I took some turkey "parts" out of the freezer to cook tonight, 2 thighs and 2 drumsticks.  I'll use the recipe with apples and apple cider.  I'm also planning to bake bread this afternoon.  Had some "starter" in the freezer.

If it lightens up, I'll venture out and do some shopping.

    Hugs to all.

Deb:  Yes, forgot to mention, your daughter is beautiful, and looks so carefree!

Carole:  Hope we don't get that weather, but don't think so we are so far south.  Texas really needed the rain though...nature takes care of that.

Think I'm doing something with turkey tonight too...just haven't figured out what yet!  I buy those little turkey loins and there are a multitude of way to prepare them.  Perfect for two people with leftovers.

Apple, there is a very old-fashioned, traditional Danish soup made with sorrel. It is also very simple. You heat up some clear, light chicken broth, then you load it with tons of chopped sorrel and let the sorrel wilt. In each soup plate you break an egg, then  ladle over the soup, resulting in a poached egg in your soup. You can also poach the eggs separately and add to the soup as you serve, to make sure they are done.

I don't know if I've ever tasted sorrel...don't even know what it looks like.  I grow my herb garden in North Carolina in the summer.  They do very well there, but not so good in the S. Florida humidity and heat unless I baby them.  I'm going to try some other veggies besides tomatoes and herbs this year.  We have a common area that gets overgrown and I'm the only one who takes care of it, so I'm going to set up a small garden and see what happens:)  The whole common area would make a great community garden, but I'm not up to keeping that, it would have to be a community effort, and I can only imagine the ruckus that would arise from doing something like that....lol!

I am trying to keep up and having a rough time!  With the weather being so nice the past week I am hardly ever inside.

Deb- love the picture of you DD, she looks so content!

Apple, I tried to grow cilantro last year as I love it too and use it quite a bit and it died on me.  Someone said it was too hot out for it?

Debbie- I am glad your DH's work is being extra nice to him.  I hope it's because they smartened up!

Joyce I am so sorry for all the loss you and your Dh are going through.  It is so hard to go through a loss, let alone many. ((((hugs)))

Last night was chicken Caesar salad for dinner with some crusty bread.  Tonight I am doing some pulled chicken in the crock pot to do sandwiches with and macaroni salad.  It is just so warm here!  80's yesterday and today I don't feel like making a big hot dinner.  DS #1 was just out in his sandbox for about 5 minutes and cam in saying it's too hot, he needed some juice and a cartoon.  We've got to get the big umbrella out that protects them from the sun so he'll last longer.  But, I mean it is March in NH it's just nuts!  We are sleeping with the windows open at night, you can hear the peepers.  There are buds on the trees and the grass is turning green, unheard of.

Sorry if I missed anyone!  Hope you all enjoyed the day and I will try to check in again later.

I had to add, when DS came in from the sandbox and saw me making the macaroni salad he asked "why are you doing that now?"  I told him- Daddy likes it to sit for a few hours before he eats it-

Made me stop and realize I may have him well trained, but he has me trained too!

Laurie- Hope the peeper isnt looking in your window LOL! Ok, what is a peeper? I dont have a clue. Im glad you are having such nice weather and are able to be outside, we finally warmed up to 43%

Apple- I dont know what sorrell is either im thinking mushroom? Hope you get your appetite back!

Carol- Thats scary to have storm damage so close to home, 4 inches is a lot of rain! I didnt know what i was having for dinner tonight but since you and kaara mentioned turkey i think thats what i will have for tonight, i have ground turkey so will make turkey burgers. Heres my recipe for it:

    Ingredients:

    • 1/4 cup thinly sliced scallions
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
    • 3 Granny Smith apples , peeled and diced
    • 1/8 cup canola oil
    • 4 pounds ground turkey breast
    • 2 Tbsp. salt
    • 1 Tbsp. black pepper
    • 2 tsp. Tabasco chipotle pepper sauce
    • 1 lemon , juiced and grated zest
    • 1/2 bunch parsley , finely chopped
    • 1/4 cup Major Grey's Chutney , pureed
    Directions
Sauté the scallions, celery and apples in the canola oil until tender. Let cool.

Place the ground turkey in a large mixing bowl. Add sautéed items and the remaining ingredients. Shape into eight 8-ounce burgers. Refrigerate for 2 hours.

Season the turkey burgers with salt and pepper. Place on a preheated, lightly oiled grill. Grill each side for 7 minutes until meat is thoroughly cooked. Let sit for 5 minutes.
The time it takes to make it is worth it, thanks for the suggestion i havnt made these in awhile.

For some reason talking about turkey made me remember this joke:

Bad Parrot A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot.  The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.  Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior." John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird spoke-up, very softly, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

sorrell is a light green lettucey leaf.. it just grows in a bunch.  My plant has lasted thru two transplants and 4 years. It's only about the size of a soccer ball tho. .  I think I will plant a few more plants this year and try Momine's soup!  I never see it in the stores.  My Russian friend grew it and gave me the plant a few years ago.. I see it in the garden center too. It's great just to eat a leaf or two... very sour.   She used to make a sour cream based noodle-ish dish with meatballs and sorrell that was REALLY good.

PS:  I don't remember if I said anything about this on this thread, but my DS and family had purchased a turkey that they were going to raise for our Thanksgiving dinner last fall.  Well, it turned out the turkey became a close member of the family and come Thanksgiving they couldn't kill it.  It walked around the back yard like it owned the place, and it did for a while.  Unfortunately, it became a hawk's dinner several days ago.  All they found left in the yard was the foot.  Thank goodness DGD isn't old enough to understand...she just thinks it flew away, but DDIL is inconsolable.  I feel sad myself, because the last time I was there it was following me around gobbling all the way.  She did have quite a personality.

Debbie  thanks for the joke  I have never put apple in my turkey burgers...gonna try your recipe.

Laurie...what was our answer to the peepers?  We discussed them during our barbecue with friends last night.  when it got dark we could hear them while sitting on their deck.  they have a pond out back of their house.  I think they are tiny frogs right? We get them around the pool in the summer and they sure can make a lot of noise.

Never had sorrell that I know of...sounds different...would like to try it in that sour cream noodle dish if you could get your hands on the recipe Apple.

    Debbie,

Those turkey burgers sound good... Put them on my 'Must try soon' list... The turkey joke was a good one, crazy fonts and all!.....

As for peepers, I thought they were everywhere but looks like it's an east coast thing....

    From Wikipedia...

"Spring Peepers are tan or brown in color with a dark cross that roughly forms an X on their dorsa (thus the Latin name crucifer, meaning cross-bearer[1]), though sometimes the marking may be indistinct.[2][3] They have a body length between less than an 1 inch (25 mm) to 1.5 inches (38 mm)[3] and a weight between 0.11 ounces (3.1 g) to 0.18 ounces (5.1 g).[2]

The species have large toe pads for climbing, although they are more at home amid the loose debris of the forest floor.[2]

The color variations of the P. crucifer are mostly tan, brown, olive green, and gray. Females are lighter-colored, while males are slightly smaller and usually have dark throats. This frog has a vocal sac located by its throat, which expands and deflates like a balloon to create a short and distinct peeping sound. Only males have the ability to make this loud high-pitched noise, and they use it to attract mates."
