So...whats for dinner?
Comments

Hello everyone, surgery was a piece of cake yesterday. Lipo on both hips (to remove the dog ears) and put up into my left boob, nipple made also. Just a little piching in the hip area otherwise no pain. I am bound like a mummy though, compression bra and abdominal binder, I have to wear these for a week....Yikes..not comfortable with this heat!
Hubby was so kind and made (bought) dinner last night, chicken teriyaki sub sand and tossed salad (that I made the night before) ha ha its the best the poor man can do. Tonight he is out of town for business, so I wont have to worry about dinner. Yay
Michelle Yoiur hair is growing like gangbusters! So thick and shiny...mine was that curly at that stage and I loved it, but now that it is longer it has gone back to straight and its back to the old curling iron. I am not complaining though...so glad to have hair.
Carole Hope you are out of floods way, looks like your in for a lot of rain.
-
luvrving.. i am jealous.. i just suddenly lost all my hair.. 6 months they say. you look super cute.
tonite I will sautee pork tenderloin and make a pan sauce of capers, dijon, yogurt, sourcream, juices and fix some basmati rice with wild rice mixed in...and a huge salad.
It's so good to be home. We eat a LOT of vegetables.. and I really missed them on the road. The only way to get them was to order a whole salad.. which is ok, but i like a lot of variety.
-
Carrie - glad your surgery went well. Yes, it is hot to be wrapped up like a mummy...that would have felt better a couple months ago...lol. I got my DIEP date - July 23rd! I'm not suggesting you cut your hair, but just wondering...do you think it would be very curly if you cut it short? I may have to test that out, I really like this stage of my hair regrowth.
Apple - oh, so sorry about your hair! Thanks for the compliment! Yes, about 6 months after final chemo for 2-3 good inches. But I ditched the wig and went topless as soon as the fuzz started to come in. I hope chemo is doing its thing and knocking out the nasty cells, too! Are you doing OK with it? You're always so upbeat, it's hard to tell.
-
Michelle- Your hair looks awesome! I am glad you are enjoying the curl!
Carrie- I am glad everything went well, thanks for keeping us posted. I hope you are still comfortable today despite the heat of the wraps.
Apple- I too am so sorry about your hair. But from your avatar picture you look adorable with your head wrap.
Pickety Place ladies- I don't think I am going to be able to make it on Saturday. One of my very close friends sisters passed away and the funeral is in Newport NH on Saturday. For you NH girls, she is the single mother who was struck by a car while out for a walk. It is so very very sad. My friend texted me this afternoon telling me the times of the calling hours and funeral. I am going to doa map quest and see if it is possible to do both with drive times etc. The funeral is at 10 in Newport- so let me see if I can figure it out.
Tonight we are going to an open house at the pre school we plan on signing our oldest DS up for. It should be interesting, we are going the four of us. My son has zero interest in school, I am hoping when he sees the playground, paints toys etc he will be a little more receptive.
Sorry I am so far behind here, it has been a busy couple of days. Also, I have been the one texting and e mailing al ot of friends on behalf of the one who lost her sister. I still can't believe it.
-
Carrie- So glad your surgery is done and you have minimal pain only. Hope the week goes by really fast for you too. Your DH sounds like mine he would rather buy it than cook it but glad he is taking care of you.
Momine- Great idea on the yogurt for creme frache i have also replaced it with yogurt too, and i have made it from scratch which is fairly easy you just have to plan on making it a couple days in advance but it last for 2 weeks. its only heavy cream and buttermilk.
Apple- I bet you will be eating tons of fresh vegetables for days since you didnt get much on your trip. glad you are back safe and had a great time
-
Laurie- Ohhh im so very, very sorry for the loss of your friends sister, and sad to of been so young and such a sensless tragedy. You and your friends family are in my prayers ((((((hugs))))))))
-
Laurie, I am so sad for your friend's sister's passing. I know that you will be a support to them all, and that they will be glad for your being there, but we can't be selfish and wish you were with us. (Although I wish things were different and you could be and that we could all meet)
Kaara, thanks for the soup ideas! I will try the vegetable one first. I have everything but the peppers. and Kale which I hear is so good for you.
Debbie, then I will try the pea soup. So good to have a pea soup that sounds like it won't produce errrrr gas. ahem.
Apple I'm sorry about your hair. You are beautiful
Carrie, I'm glad that your surgery went so well. You must be so excited. I know that SPANX are nothing compared to your wraps but I was uncomfortable in them. At least it's not August. How long will you have to wear them for?
Hello to anyone I missed. Long day.
-
Laurie: So sorry about your friend...that is so tragic.
Carrie: Glad that you got through your surgery ok...sending lots of healing energy!
Apple: So sorry you lost your hair..TG for wigs and head wraps.
I had lunch with a girlfriend today, so of course I was lazy about dinner, so we picked up Boston Chicken take out. They have good veggies. Will watch a netflix later. Tomorrow is app't with MO to get my tamoxifen refilled. It's really making me tired...sometimes I have to lie down for a nap. Has anyone else had this problem?
-
nap is my middle name. I actually am doing fine with this double whammy of WBR (whole brain radiation.. 50 seconds, once a day for 14 times (2 to go) and chemo.. it is a bit tiring but I am carrying on.
Just got back from vacation so i worked really hard yesterday on the 50 loads of laundry but rested this afternoon.. no lessons, no rides for kiddies..just me, the tv and a vogue.
-
apple: That's tough WBR...I imagine you are tired, and here I am complaining about tamox!
I send you prayers and positive energy!
-
Laurie, I am so sorry about your friends sister, how awful.
(((apple))))
Can't wait til Saturday.
-
Laurie - that is so sad about your friend's sister. Odd, I've been going for a walk the last couple of days and had this worry...how long would it take for my DH to notice if I weren't home in a reasonable time. I guess we just never know when it's our time.
Apple - you are one tough chick! And family laundry after a vacation...oh how I remember. Wishing you some rest and relaxation! -
Oh Laurie, I'm so sorry to learn about your friend's sister. What a terrible tragedy... we'll miss you Sat, but our hearts will certainly be with you as you support your friend. Hope the pre-school visit goes well.
I think if I were your oldest child I wouldn't be so quick to want to go anywhere either! You are fun to be with!! I do agree that the recreation equipment may be a good draw.
Apple, glad you are home and enjoying your kitchen once again. I'm impressed that you were able to pull off that trip in the middle of WBR! and 50 load of laundry ta boot?! Pretty amazing....I guess you would need a nap!
Kaara, I am definitely more tired than I have ever been and tend to think it is the Tamoxifen. But who knows....I think I'll head to bed. -
Apple- as always you amaze me! Naps are a great thing, enjoy them in between all your productivity.
Thanks for all the warm thoughts and love ladies. It really was so shocking. Sunday night, kids are in bed, DH headed to bed and I decided to switch onthe news for a few minutes before I headed up. Her sister was one of the headlines. All I could think of is how I would feel if in the middle of my day, someone called me and told me the same thing about my brother. I called her and she didn't answer and instead texted me right back and said talking was too hard...so we texted for a few and thats how I've been checking in with her. She is getting alot of calls, texts and e mails and is starting to shut down with the whole thing. My heart breaks for her.
I map quested the funeral and Pickety Place, the funeral is just over an hour from my house and Pickety is 1 hour 45 from the funeral, so it isn't going to work. I am very disappointed. We will have to make it a point to do it again before Michelle has her surgery.
The pre school open house was a huge success. DS#1 only agreed to go to prove he did not like it and would not be going. Thats what he said when he got in the car. We got there and with in 5 minutes he announced (to the entire room) " Hey you know what? I'm not afraid! I like this place and I'll go to school here!" The teachers and all the parents laughed. It was really very sweet. He feels good about it all which in turn makes me feel good. I am glad we were one of the first people there tonight too. There were only 2 slots left for his age in the morning class, so we got him all signed up happily. I had to laugh at one of the questions on the paperwork I had to fill out. "What is your child afraid of?" I sat there thinking and could only come up with one thing- afraid of adults who dress as animals. ie- Smokey the Bear, Easter Bunny etc. The teacher read over the paper work as we were chatting and pointed to it and said, "good to know" When I got home I asked him if he could think of anything he was afraid of, he said no. So I told him I thought of the people dressed as animals and put that down did I miss anything? He says no, thats a good one, I really don't like those people,LOL!
Ok I should go to bed.....not tired but I should,,,,,
-
Laurie- My heart just breaks reading about your friend, she is lucky to have you as a friend and i know when she is ready she will need you for comfort im sure.
The story about your son is so funny and cute, wonder where he got that from LOL!
Apple- I agree with the others you are so amazing with everything you are going through and you just keep trucking along with such energy, makes me feel very lazy LOL! Im sorry about your hair too.
Bedo- Cant promise no gas but its worth it LOL!
Kaara- I only took the hormonals for a short period because the bone pain was so bad, sorry i cant help you there. Have you talked to your MO about you being so tired?
-
Laurie: After a small adjustment period your son will love his preschool, and it's good for kids to have that socialization early on. It prepares them for the time when they go to regular school. My DGD is 2-1/2 and I've told DS that she probably needs to go a couple of days a week because she has no one to play with at home. When my kids grew up they had each other! It will probably be harder on you than on him, but hang in there and let him have the adjustment time even if he fusses about it.
Off to the MO today to get a refill on tamoxifen (so looking forward to that:( ) and I guess he will poke at me some more. I've taken my clothes off so much I'm beginning to know what a stripper feels like! Before that I have to run my taxes down to the accountant on the opposite side of town because they are only there certain times of the day...bankers hours...must be nice!
-
Laurie So sorry about your friend, such a tragic story. Like Michelle said.. we never know what lies ahead for us. What a super fun time to be sending your son off to school, you will enjoy your quality time with your younger one as well.
Apple, so glad you are at the end of your radiation, then hopefully you will be able to catch your breath a little and rest. Hang in there. [[[[hugs]]]]
Kaara I understand that!! about taking clothes off for doctors....before my latest recon, I stood there buck naked while the PS plyed with my boobs, pushing and pulling to see where to put the fat to make them semetrical, then drew with a purple marker all over the one side...all while my DH watched! they could have at least put some money in my g-string!! or granny panties!! LOL
Today I feel like a mac truck ran over me in the night...aaarg...sleeping on my back is killing me.
Gonna try to put together a salad, girlfriend decided we would do a cookout for hump night because its too nice to go to a restaurant....they are also sympathetic to my restrictions clothing wise.
-
Laurie.. I am so sorry. A sudden tragedy has a way of knocking us down. peace
-
I've been reading for about 30 minutes to catch up on a couple of days posts!
Carrie, glad your surgery went well. I remember well sleeping on my back for weeks with a small pillow under my knees to protect my back. I also placed a large pillow on each side at first to remind me not to turn on my side.
Apple, my thoughts are with you as you endure (and benefit from) treatment. I think I mentioned this before, but some women use the cold caps to prevent hair loss. I haven't checked into cold caps because I was spared chemo.
Debbie your pea soup sounds really good. Kaara, everything you cook sounds good! I wish I lived in the same neighborhood with most of you ladies who are great cooks!
Laurie, the story about your friend's sister is tragic. And the story about your Son no. 1 is amusing and endearing. I love his announcing his feelings to the room at large. I really can't blame him for not wanting to leave home. He's a lucky little boy.
Michelle, your hair is pretty. My hair is very curly iin the back but just curly/unruly on the top and siides. I've been wearing it a little longer and letting the back go natural, but with this heat I'm going to have to get a short cut next time. I don't like to spend more than 10 minutes drying and styling.
Yesterday was a high cal day. DH and I had lunch with another couple at Pontchartrain Poboys, a wonderful little hole in the wall place. We shared a 12 inch oyster poboy, "dressed" with lettuce, tomato and spread with mayo. Oh, and an order of French fries. Then last night for dinner we had flank steak that had been marinated in Rachael Ray''s marinade. Also mushrooms sauteed in EVOO and butter and a green salad.
The dinner had been planned in advance and the lunch was a spur of the moment happening. Otherwise we wouldn't have had beef on the same day we had eaten a heavy lunch.
I'm enjoying staying home today!!!!!
-
Kaara-LOL- Well mine dosnt even bother to ask me to undress, hmmm should i be insulted? lol
Carrie- Hope you heal fast and are able to get more comfortable
Carol-MMMM that oyster po boy sounds awfully good. I could go for one of those right now. As far as the cold caps go, my friend whom i met on Bco a couple of years ago did the cold caps she didnt lose any hair except a few strands on the side of her head that was not noticable at all she was so excited about it and after she finished her tx she looked into being a sales rep for the cold caps she put a lot of work into it, going to hospitals and dr offices to promote it, she now has a flourishing bussiness and will travel to there homes to do the cold caps for the ladies, im happy for her, but i honestly am not thrilled about putting any thing cold on my head, but it does work.
-
Laurie, what an adorable story about DS1's first visit to pre-school. I especially loved that he felt in charge of his decision and felt comfortable to announce it to the pre-school world. Sweet!
Good for your friend, Debbie...that's making lemonade out of lemons for sure! Not sure if I could do a cold cap either....especially in the winter here (most winters that is, not this warm one). On the other hand, preventing hair loss could be a huge incentive.
Am thinking cold soups with all this heat, and may make my gazpacho which is posted on the "soups" forum. Have some tomato juice on the shelf that is just calling out to me. -
Lacey- Can you share your gazpacho soup recipe, sounds good Dh dosnt care for it but i like it.
Laurie- Thinking of you today- {{{Hugs}}}}}
Making a brandy mushroom chicken dish for dinner tonight with roasted broccoli . Brandy really makes this dish and its great to sip in between too LOL!
-
She Says by the end of Summer she will be a Pro.
-
I agree with you Laurie, when I google Newport NH I said that is way to far to drive to PP. There will be other times I'm sure. We don't live far from each other.
Debbie, how's everything?
-
I sent LuLu22 a PM. She has had her surgery. She is the gal from Concord MA that met up with us all at the Glenview.
-
Debbie, check out the recipe on one of the first posts on the Healthy Soups forum I'm sending the link to:
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/86/topic/781196?page=1#idx_28
Enjoy before it gets back to winter temps! We have one more day up here.....:)
Joyce, so sorry to hear about more losses for you...hope DH can join you in NH. Look forward to meeting you in person, Saturday.
Michelle, do you think that the maple sugar place will be operating? One of my young clients said he and parents went to get some at a MS farm, a couple of weeks ago and it was too warm for the trees to produce the sap. -
My DD, (pictured above) is my only child so she had no siblings to play with. When she started nursery school she cried because she did not want to home. She loved it. But I convinced her that she will be going every day, she is 36 now.
-
gorgeous pic Deborye... neat how she looks like you but doesn't
-
Lacey - I am sure that Parker's is open as they have a year-round restaurant. Whether or not there is any 2012-made maple syrup is anyone's guess. They are probably not quite as warm there, and the nights have been cool. But it's likely the 70 + degrees did reach them. Right now on their website you can buy a gallon of syrup for $60.
Joyce - it's a bittersweet welcome home, for sure. We'll talk tomorrow.
Deb - I was trying to remember LuLu's name. Do you think she'd be up to meeting us on Saturday, or is it too soon? Not sure what surgery she had. I didn't call and change the reservation yet, so if you know anyone who might want to join us, it won't be a problem.
Debbie - hope Chuck is doing well!
Looks like we get a summer day tomorrow and a late spring day on Friday, then the "normal" weather returns. The grandkids are coming tomorrow afternoon to play in the lake...cuz they can! We are going to take pictures and document that they are wading in the lake on March 22nd! The little boy next door came over today and declared the water "warm"...lol. He only had his toes in, and that water was probably tolerable! We'll cook out on the grill and enjoy this "gift" of another summer day in March before we all get back to reality. I have a tan already, more than I got in Florida
-
I'll PM her.
apple~~ Thanx, Rebekah has some of me and some of my DH's looks. I have blue eyes, she has brown, she has her fathers nose.
