Laurie - I think your burgers were "slime-free"
Back when all my kids were home, I would go to the grocery store, pick out a round or rump roast, then ask the butcher to grind it for me. I was pretty sure that I was getting real ground beef and not some manufactured product. I asked Shaw's if they still do it and the meat manager said yes. Might have to start that again - I like knowing what's in the beef!
We just got back from having prime rib at the Glenview. It was excellent tonight and I have a box of leftovers in the fridge.
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
-
I didn't know about the pink slime. Must have missed those posts.
-
Deb, are we thinking early black flies? Is the last stretch of that road really rugged?
This will be an upcountry adventure...and I'm assuming upcountry casual dress? -
I'm wearing black jeans tomorrow. You'll see people dressed from casual to "tea party" fancy. The last bit is definitely a little bumpy but it's not very long. Black flies...surely not yet!
-
Thanks Michelle. The place will probably be in beautiful early bloom with all this heat.
See you tomorrow..... -
Have fun tomorrow ladies!
Lacey I had to laugh at your question about the road. When I went last time I had never been and had the address plugged into my GPS on my phone, it was telling me where to go and I was like....really? A crooked dirt road in the middle of nowhere going up a hill....ok....but it was right and the place was wonderful!
I can't wait to see the pictures of all of you. It should be a great day for it tomorrow, not hot and not cold.
Sweet dreams everyone and safe travels.

Apple, I am Danish, but am married to a Greek and we live in Greece, after having lived in the US for many years. I used to work in restaurants and grew up with a grandmother who collected cook books (among other things).
-
Have fun tomorrow everyone wish i could be there too! take some pics please
-
Hope you all have a blast at Pickety Place!! Dittonwhat Debbie said....Wish I could be there!
Laurie... Thinking of you today.... -
Interesting Momine.... I lived in Greece (Salonika) for a while.. and then worked for a Lebanese (excellently trained restauranteur ).. our food rocked. I watch shows on northern European cooking. There is this guy who cooks outside up in the arctic circle and all over mostly Norway. Right out of college, i applied for and immediately received a grant to categorize (librarian style) manuscripts, but i was supposed to male so i lost the grant.. but i stayed in Thessaloniki as an au pair. (sp?) and vegetable picker.
On place I'd love to visit is Estonia.. and then St. Petersburg. I will most likely not, but i ordered my piano from Estonia. (quite the deal.. and quite the piano).

Apple, that is so cool. Thessalonica is a pretty town. I hope you make it to Petersburg. I was there, once a long time ago, and it is absolutely stunning. You should take one of those baltic cruises and start in Copenhagen
-
Ladies...your lunch today sounds magical! Please take lots of photos and post so the rest of us can enjoy the event with you! Have a wonderful time!
-
I went to Copehagen about 4 years ago with my DS who was playing in a World Poker Tour event there. We spent 6 days and managed to tour a bit of Denmark. That was my first-ever trip to Europe and I just loved it. The Danes are said to be the happiest people on earth!
I am so looking forward to today. Hauntie is meeting me at my house and then we'll drive in together. It's about 50 degrees, heading to 58 and it's fairly cloudy. I hope the sun comes out but it's not supposed to rain.
-
Have a great lundh today ladies, will be waiting for some pics.
I just heard on the news that our local grocery store chain will not be selling any meat with the pink slime. Its like closing the barn door after the horse has gotten out...how many years have we been eating that crap?
Went out last night and had a grilled chicken sandwich, it was sooo good, had a cajun mayo on it.
Today I am attempting to shower, it has been five days and the sponge baths just arent cutting it for me anymore. Oh the simple pleasures in life. Then tonight we are making pizza with friends and watching the 'cuse game.
Great Day everyone.

Michelle and other lunch attendees, tell us the background story on Pickety Place. I gather it is more than just a restaurant in a remote location at the end of a bumpy road.
Apple, what an interesting background you have. I visited Copenhagen, too, quite a few years back. DH and I took a 3-week trip in the Scandinavian countries. We met two Swedish couples on a sailing vacation in the Grenadine (sp?) Islands one summer and visited them the next year. We drove around Sweden, Denmark and ??? Duh, what's the other country? It was a great trip. No problem with languages since English is taught in the schools.
Sun is shining brightly today and the forecast is for HOT. I must do a weight workout and some aerobic exercise. Later I'll take my mother on a grocery shopping outing to a nice Rouses (LA) supermarket with wide aisles. She can be dangerous driving the shopping scooter.
Well, plans just changed. My mother called to read off a list. She wants me to do the shopping and bring the groceries to her. We also have to wash and set her hair since she missed her hair appointment because of the rain this week.
Looking forward to the lunch reports and pictures!
Happy Saturday to all.

carole: You are a wonderful daughter to do all that for your mother. I'm sure mine would do that for me too if I asked....maybe??:)
-
Yes Carol, it is a serene place to be, in the middle of June the gardens are just gorgeous, all the flowers and herbs, 2 gift shops, the smells are indescribable all the cooking and potpourri, I hope the green house is open I want to buy more herbs for my herbal/veggie garden. I have to make sure it is hardy in zone 5. Visit the website: www.pickityplace.com
It will give you the history and all sorts of cool information you can even shop on line. They have a quick turn around when you place an order. I have been going there since 1975 when I lived in Townsend with my DD in a stroller, she is now 36.
-
I'm leaving in 45 mins.
-
Carole - the cottage has been there since 1786 and was used as a model for illustrations of the Little Golden Book version of Little Red Riding Hood. Inside, there is a room set up with the wolf in the bed, very cute!
-
la chicken fajitas.. on the grill! yum
-
Laurie- Thinking of you as well today
Carrie- Glad you were able to shower today and your friends will probably be happy about that too LOL! Hope you are healing and feeling better. I agree on the pink slime why did it take so long for this to come out?
Joyce- Hope you got some much needed rest today.
Are you ladies back yet? You must be having fun!!!
-
Sweet potatoes and black beans for lunch so tasty!
-
joycek: Glad you don't have to make that long trip again, particularly since the weather is so nice where you are. It hit 86 here today...too hot for me! That usually doesn't happen until May.
Speaking of golf, the boyfriend set us up for 18 holes tomorrow...I don't know how I'm going to make it in this hot weather...I just don't have the stamina that I used to. He has clients coming from Miami that we must entertain, the wife is coming, so I'm included. Haven't played in a long time...should be interesting. I'd rather be sitting by the pool with a good book! So...for my cooperation...I'm getting dinner out tonight:)
-
-
Here we are.
-
It came out a little blurry, I had the waitress take the picture.
-
Ohhhhhh Deborye!! Thanks so much for posting a pic! Looks like you had a wonderful time because you all look so happy.... Food must have been good too because those plates look pretty darn clean!!! Soooooooo jealous!
-
That was dessert.
Didn't get to by the Sorrel, greenhouse was not open yet.
-
It was fun! I recognized Michelle and Deb right away. I was so happy to meet everyone, I wish we lived closer. Next time you all have to haul your b**^ts to RI! I was looking forward to seeing and hugging the sheep, but they were not out yet. Only got to hug a cat.
( And the "ladies")
-
We seem to be missing someone in Deb's picture!!! I tried to re-size this, hopefully you can see Pat on the right.
