So...whats for dinner?

Kay, good to hear from you....but so sorry to learn about your MO....both that she's leaving and couldn't be honest with you. Docs aren't well schooled in how to deal with "terminating" with patients, especially if THEY are the ones leaving, so I'd bet you are suffering from her inexperience in this area, which stinks. The good news is that it sounds like you are not in the same place of "need" for her as you were in the past. Would you be able to sit down and re-visit this with her and let her know that it feels really important to you to have a more experienced MO, and is there another colleague she can refer you to? Or perhaps ask her why she is so comfortable with the new docs. Some of them are wonderful. Judging from your posts, I would guess that you might not be inclined to tell her how you are feeling about what you discovered (the new doc deception feeling business), but it would be great for you if you could, so that you could also let her know how much you will miss her and have an authentic good-bye....not one clouded with the anger over this specific communication. This is a significant good-bye, Kay, since you have been through a lot together, and sadness and anger are both connected to such a loss, but I hope that you have a chance to make peace with this person (that's all docs are, afterall), so that you'll feel ready to connect with the next MO when that time comes. And of course you wouldn't want to "kill" her during lent, afterall.....you would have missed all these posts for no spiritual gain!
By the way, I'm impressed with your DH's caring insights. Thinking about you as you work through his.....not fun, but definitely do-able. Hugs....
-
Deciding on a movie for today.....anyone NOT like The Artist? DH leaning in that direction and I am more drawn to The Decendants, or the Glen Close butler one (forgot the name).
Ideas??
So happy to have a day to have some fun after a crazy busy month. -
Hi all,!
I went out with my friend Robin (again) to get those mussles on Fri. In the middle of the night started coughing and now have a full blown cold. I am here with my "kittehs" I read a whole book yesterday. Dinner was orange juice and Luden's cough drops.
Lots of cooking going on!
Apple, your trip sound fantastic!
As far as narcotics, I insist that they give me zofran presciption if I'm sent home with them and I take it first.
Found out my oldest friend in RI and Kayaking buddy will be going away for a year in order to train to be a Dean or President at her college. She's now the chair.
But then she'll be back. I hate it when people go away...
Have a good Sunday everyone!
Looking forward to seeing some of you!
-
Deb- Love the picture!
Debbie- I got it too
cracked me up. Hope Chuck is still improving.
Chabba- Loved your Irish story!
Kay- I think it is a combination of both. I am sorry you have been so upset about it. But I think it is rightly so. What you are going through is such a personal and emotional thing how could you not be upset? Hope you're feeling better and can find some peace.
Carrie- Good luck tomorrow! I hope it goes well and that you don't have too much discomfort. I had nips done at the time of exchange and it was emotional, but easy. I've never had lypo though...unfortunately so I have no idea on that. I'll be thinking of you and don't forget to let us know how you are.
Kaara- Glad you had so much fin celebrating, sounds wonderful!
Lacey- Sorry I can't help with the movie. I haven't been to a theater in about 10 years! Hope you enjoyed it though.
I have my corned beef and cabbage dinner cooking in the crock pot for dinner tonight. I'm looking forward to it, the house smells great. Last night I watched the movie the help and had a little wine. It was a nice quiet evening. DH came home around 8 and went right to bed. And I mean right to bed. He walked in and said hi, I asked him how it went and he said good, I have to go to bed. LOL!! Thats what he gets for doing a pub crawl from 9:30- 7:30. But it is his job and you have to love that there was 7 of them, in a conversion van with a DD. Basically it is a group of grown men behaving as though they are 21. He woke up this morning and realized he had lost his phone and his glasses. (he's got really bad eye sight- why were they not on his face the whole time? Why because he was wearing green shamrock glasses of course!) He has located his glasses, they had been left in the van, but the phone is still MIA. He has high hopes of back tracking and finding it tomorrow:) I just smile and shake my head.
Hope everyone is enjoying the day!

this is a picture of DS#1 with Daddy's shamrock glasses and Budweiser bow tie from the night before.
-
Obviously in training! So very cute!!
-
Very cute little guy! They are so precious at that age. I had my DD and then my 3 DS's all under 6! My youngest was born when I was 26 and I'm 71 now, so a lot of years have gone by since those days. I've had an entire new life and career since my kids grew up, but I'm retired now and enjoying the peace of it all.
I'm going to do something simple for dinner tonight...salmon on the grill, a sweet potato and some cauliflower. We had black bean soup and salad for lunch, then went out and hit some golf balls. I didn't do too bad for not having hit a ball in two years! At least I made contact...lol!
-
I'll never believe Daddy could look as cute in the glasses and tie as DS#1!
-
WAitress was wearing glasses like that.
Opten for French silk pie last night instead of pbutter.
Tonight, home w fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, bllueberry cobbler. Cooking together, Hubby's weekend off.
Debbie, from two pages back, red-head story is good, could be a book.
-
Michelle- Your hair looks so thick in your avatar i bet by now it is really thick and longer, Do you like your new curls? I had long blonde straight hair and when it grew back it was so curly at first i didnt like it, DH used to sing, The stars will come out tomorrow" LOL! I actually like my curls now since my hair grew out.
Chabba- Wow that is so awesome that you know that much about your family tree even if some of it is upsetting to find out, wish i knew more about mine, about the only thing i really know for sure is i was related somehow to Mad, mad, mad, mad Anthony Wayne. I guess he was crazy.. HMMM I just hope that apple is a long way off LOL
Kay- ((((hugs)))) Sorry that she is leaving and she decived you too, she should of just been honest and told you up front. I hope you will end up likeing the new MO even better. When i first moved here i had a MO who i really liked i went back the second time and he was gone and there was a new one, i asked where mo #1 was they said he moved back to califronia, but i did like the new one too, then i went back the third time and he was gone, i asked where mo #2 was they said he moved back to califronia, i was so ticked off by this, dont care so much about the third one he has no bed side manner but he is still here, i was beginning to think they were knocking them off or somthing.LOL!
Carrie-Yes we should def gettogether and have a few drinks we would have a riot! LOL!
Sorry about the big bold letters dont know why that happend
-
Essa MMMMMM on the fried chicken. Love the name of your town.
Laurie your son is too precious. I bet hubby realizes now that he is not 21 lol thanks for the thoughts for tomorrow, should be a fairly simple procedure, I just worry about the anesthesia....it makes me so sick and I hate throwing up.
Having a really light dinner of grilled chicken and salad in prep for tomorrow.
-
Bedo- Aw im sorry your friend is going away for a year, Maybe give you a good reason for a vacation and get away to go visit? Still it sucks i know! Sorry you have a cold drink plenty of OJ and get some rest and feel better!
Laurie- LOL that is so funny about DH and the shamrock glassess bet he didnt feel too great today. What a cute pic of DS with dads glasses on. I loved the help i have watched it 3 times already.
Essa- my life is a book LOL!
-
you ladies nailed it. Dh was dragging this morning, but at least he had been in bed since 8! Also, after getting the day off with no kids yesterday he knew waaaayyy better then to claim "the brown bottle flu" today. He got some yard work done and played with the boys almost the whole day....minus when he asked for a half hour to lay on the couch, lol!
Just finished the corned beef dinner, OMG I am so full, I ate way too much.
-
LaIurie, your corned beef and cabbage dinner sounds so good. My mouth is watering. I love corned beef but seldom eat it because of the sodium.
Several pages ago there was discussion of morphine. When I woke up in the hospital following my BMX I had a morphine pump. Unfortunately, I wasn't clearheaded enough to understand that I could give myself doses as I needed them for pain. So I didn't utilize the pump much. The morphine did not make me ill in any way. I learned that I had reacted adversely to demarol. A red streak had developed at the needle. I'm allergic to the codeine painkillers so apparently morphine was the only painkiller left.
My PS is a big believer in no pain for his patients. During my reconstruction surgery, he installed a pain pump that automatically discharged painnumbing med. into each breast. The pump lasted for about 5 days. By the time it was removed I was taking Tylenol for Arthritis every 8 hours and didn't need anything stronger
I am really up the creek without a paddle when it comes to prescription painkillers. Recently I had dental surgery and took a Tramadol and had an allergic reaction to it.
We did nothing for St. Patrick's Day except call my youngest brother and wish him a happy birthday. The holiday is big in New Orleans with parades and lots of green beer. Any excuse for a party.
I wish our weather would revert to spring but I doubt that's going to happen.
-
The weather was so beautiful here today (I call 70's with sunshine, "SanDiego weather")that DH and I decided it would be a shame to spend the afternoon in a darkened movie theatre. So we spent time outside at home for a bit, then took a drive into Boston to enjoy the Seaport area and have dinner. Had a gift certificate from DS2 from XMAS, which we used at Legal Seafood, Seaport. It was great, and we are both stuffed. had some fried clams for appetizer (so tender and sweet, but I can feel them now, since I practically NEVER eat fried foods), then a lobster roll for dinner. I usually can't get lobster rolls because I have a celery allergy, and most places put celery in them, but this had very little of anything mixed into the chucks of lobster meat. DH had a very rare tuna steak which he also enjoyed, and an unusual side,,,,sweet and sour eggplant...totally yum! So we saw many of the Southie Parade revelers, but as we left an hour ago, all the restaurant bars in that area were closing at the request of the city so that nothing untoward would happen to the spirited crew who had been drinking all day. I supect that their employers will be happy for this tomorrow, too!
And another St PADDY's Day bites the dust......
Have a good week everyone! And let's will away the rain that is predicted for Saturday! -
Thanks for the advice everyone. I am feeling better about it. I will not be going through anything with the new doc so i doubt I will ever get the same feelings as i got with the old one, but everything works out for the best I think.
Good luck tomorrow Carrie! I will be thinking of you and can't wait to hear how things go. Laurie, your son is adorable and LOL on your DH. You know what they say about boys and men, the only difference is the size of their toys. Gee, I love temps in the 80's Carole. That is my ideal weather. 90's are a little hot. We've had beautiful weather in the 70's here too. Sorry for your weather Debbie. Lacey, your dinner sounds great! I love seafood. My mouth is watering.
They had fresh corn from Florida today at the market. I brought some home for dinner and it was Delish. Also had some chicken pieces which I cooked in the crock pot with barbecue sauce. It came out really well. Everyone liked it. Also roasted a yellow pepper, some cauliflower and some Brussels sprouts, yumm! And DD made some oatmeal cookies. They came out great too. It was her first baking try on her own that came out really well. She is quite proud of herself, bringing some in tomorrow to share with her lunch table. Apple, I forgot to mention earlier that your trip sounds great. Hope the trip home goes well. We're going to Williamsburg the week after next. It's spring break at my DD's school. Hope we'll have as good a time as you did. And I hope this beautiful weather lasts.
Have a great week everyone and thanks again for talking me off the ledge. -
Lots to catch up on! I spent the last two hours watching "Frozen Planet on Discovery Channel while playing with my new iPad. I haven't figured out how to post a picture from the Safari browser (not sure if it's even possible) so I have returned to my laptop to take care of a few things. I have to say that the screen on that thing is unreal. I'm trying to figure out what cannot be done with it as I'd love to use it full time if it can take care of most things.
Carrie - good luck tomorrow. Is this the "final" thing for you?
Lacey - good choice on going to Boston rather than watching a movie...what a spectacular March day! We were outside all afternoon at my daughter's house and it couldn't have been much nicer. Glad you had such a great day. And oh, I saw both The Artist and The Descendants - you can't go wrong with either movie.
Laurie - your son is just adorable!
Kay - hope your new MO is terrific. It's hard to change, but your treatment is pretty much over, so it should be a little easier for you. I made so many doctor changes this past year that it's water off a duck's back for me...lol. Fresh corn sounds very yummy!
Debbie - my hair is really, really curly. Here is a picture of the back, which will give you a pretty good idea.
Here's a front shot:
And here's a face shot:
It was wavy before chemo and I always complained that it should be either curly or straight, but not halfway either. I guess I have my wish as it's curly everywhere at the moment. And it seems a little thicker right now, probably because it all started coming in at the same time.
OK, if I missed anyone, I apologize!
-
Michelle, your hair looks great. I'm having serious curl envy! And I am eager to figure out how you posted those pix....via your IPAD? Not sure why I am so damn challenged with this picture
posting business on this site. Maybe I can get a mini lesson on Sat.
Carrie, Best of luck with your procedure tomorrow.
Kay, tasty corn now??. That's a real bonus in March, eh?! Sweet that your daughter took the bakers' leap. Hopefully she will be reinforced by everyone loving her cookies and keep on going....
Better get some shut eye..... -
Carrie- Hope everything goes well tomorrow, sending loving thoughts to you.
Michelle- Oh i love your hair and the curls are georgous- Your hair looks so "New and helathy" I loved how my hair was soft and healthy after years of putting harse chemicals on it. You look beautiful Michelle.
Laurie- Kudos to your DH for gettting out and playing with the boys after not feeling so great LOL!
Kay- Glad your feeling better, sometimes the best medicine is venting and this is a great place for it.
Lacey- Your not alone i cant post pics either, every once in awhile i can on accident.
Carol- That makes it so hard when you are alergic to pain killers especially when you need them. I cant take anything with codene either gives me hives and i get short of breath. I was taking somthing called propoxyphine, i loved it, it didnt make me feel messed up but took away pain, then they had a recall on it, said it was causing heart attacks Yikes!!
My pork butt was really good made a peach sauce to go with it and asperagus and yellow squash. Popcorn and a square of dark chocolate for dessert.
-
Lacey - I couldn't post pictures from my iPad - I switched over to my laptop to do it. The Safari browser doesn't seem to allow for it...the grey bar with all the text formatting functions wasn't showing above the text box. Normally I just right click in a picture and select "copy" (using my mouse) then click inside this text box and right click and select paste. The picture has to be on an internet site, though. You can't copy a picture directly from your computer's hard drive. Sort of dumb, but that's how it is. I wonder if there's a version of Internet Explorer for the iPad. I think that would solve the picture-posting problem.
Debbie - thanks for the compliments on my hair. I really love the curls, and would be perfectly happy to have them forever. I am very fond of "wash and wear" hair, and I always try to have a 5-minute hairstyle. If it takes longer than 5 minutes, it's time to visit my stylist.
Carrie - thinking of you this morning and hoping everything goes well!
-
Michelle: You hair does look lovely and easy to care for. I'm the same way...if I cant fix it in five minutes or less, it's not the style for me. I keep mine short because I don't have much hair to begin with and it has more body when it isn't too long.
Getting ready to make a big pot of my vegatable soup that has everything thrown in it. We eat it for lunch with a salad all week. Good for us too!
-
Michelle I Love your hair! I've always wanted to be a redhead, but it doesn't look good on me. It looks fun!
Kaara, can you post your vegetable soup, or for anyone else any cold soups that might be good? (I am vegetarian) I ate soup all winter, it was a mainstay, but know it feels like spring!
Kay, they did that to me with an eye doctor. I insisted that an experienced doctor come into the room with them. I don't care if they think I'm a pain. I only did this after seeing a 'doctor' 3 times who didn't seem to know more than me. ( I'm sure that yours really do know more than my new doctors. Mine were straight out of medical school almost ) Good luck and I will be thinking of you.
Carrie, I hope everything went well today!
Debbie Your dinner sounds delish. I hope DH's GM has come to his senses and that DH is doing well
Kay, I love oatmeal cookies! It was one of the first things I learned to cook. I make them with raisons. Good for her!
Laurie, your son is a cutie, and so were you as a child, Deb! (still are)
Not sure what's for dinner, maybe potato and onion pierogies, with ? kind of sauce.
Getting ready to put in my plot at the community organic garden. Can't wait for those sugar snap peas and veggies!
-
Bedo: Vegetable soup: I chop onions, celery, garlic, carrots, zuccini, red and yellow peppers, plus any other veggie you have lying around, saute in olive oil until onions are sweating, then I add a couple of cartons of either chicken or vegetable stock and bring to a boil. I then add a couple handfuls of kale and simmer for a half hour or so until kale and carrots are tender. You can add tomatoes, chicken, beans or anything else you would like to make it more hearty. I season differently each time. This time I did cumin and chili powder for a tortilla soup taste.
I made a really good cold soup from carrots, celery, apple, ginger and oranges. I cooked carrots, celery and apple in 2 cups of broth until tender, then put in the blender with the ginger and oranges until smooth. It can be served hot or cold...very good.
Tonight we had asian salad (shredded cabbage and carrot) with baby mandarin oranges, topped with sliced almonds and grilled shrimp with a ginger dressing. Very light and good.
-
Just finished dinner - grilled pork chops with garlic butter, cole slaw, waldorf salad and cornbread. It was very yummy - DH has that garlic butter thing down pat!!!
It was so beautiful today and we may have temps in the mid-80s by Wednesday and Thursday. Joyce - better get DH on the next plane. It's probably nicer here than in Florida...LOL! -
Michelle you hair look beautiful.
bedo, I hope the time goes by fast so your friend will be back soon, if that makes sence.
Lacey, what part of MA are you from?
-
Bedo, here is a really good chilled pea soup ive made several times it is good chilled or hot i make it for my dad a lot he loves it since he is vegetarian i make it with vege stock
Chilled pea soup:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cups chopped leeks, white and light green parts (2 leeks)
- 1 cup chopped yellow onion
- 4 cups chicken stock, preferably homemade or vegetable stock
- 5 cups freshly shelled peas or 2 (10-ounce) packages frozen peas
- 2/3 cup chopped fresh mint leaves, loosely packed
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup creme fraiche
- 1/2 cup freshly chopped chives
- Garlic croutons, for serving
Directions
Heat the butter in a large saucepan, add the leeks and onion, and cook over medium-low heat for 5 to 10 minutes, until the onion is tender. Add the chicken stock, increase the heat to high, and bring to a boil. Add the peas and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until the peas are tender. (Frozen peas will take only 3 minutes.) Off the heat, add the mint, salt, and pepper.
*Puree the soup in batches: place 1 cup of soup in a blender, place the lid on top, and puree on low speed. With the blender still running, open the venthole in the lid and slowly add more soup until the blender is three-quarters full. Pour the soup into a large bowl and repeat until all the soup is pureed. Whisk in the creme fraiche and chives and taste for seasoning. Serve hot with garlic croutons.
-
Bedo- Dh has had really bad headaches but to be expected they said, tomorrow he will return to work so we shall see how things go tomorrow.
Kaara- your soup and dinner sounds good
Michelle- Lucky you with the good weather we are having a lot of rain. yum on your dinner
Dinner was easy, leftover pork butt and squash have enough for tomorrow so be another easy peasy night
-
Kaara, that sounds like a great soup.
We have a noodle restaurant nearby, and they make a cabbage salad with slivered red peppers and poached chicken. It is light, but surprisingly filling.
-
Debbie, that pea soup sounds excellent. Thanks! BTW, since we can't get creme fraiche down here, I usually use Greek yogurt in recipes that call for it. For things like soups, it works just fine and with less fat.
