So...whats for dinner?

LuvR: I sent Hauntie a PM last night. Hope we hear soon.
Debbie: We're all still sending thoughts & prayers and hope DH is resting peacefully after surgery.
I went to my latest fav restaurant for late lunch/early dinner. Rainbow trout, split & deboned, French green lentils, lightly sauted spinach w/pecans, fresh bread basket with cranberry-walnut and rosemary. Needless to say I'm not eating tonight.
-
Hauntie just posted on facebook- she was out and about having a great time with friends- all is well
-
Thanks for the feedback Laurie. I don't do Facebook but glad to hear Hauntie was having fun.
-
Thank-you everyone for the positive thoughts and prayers and as some of you know from facebook that he is doing ok. Thank-you laurie for letting everyone know
It was a tough day for him, said the needles they used to numbe the forehead and back of head hurt and he felt the screws going in the back so they had to give more shots, but he was pretty loopy, im surprised they dont put you completely out for this. We got there around 6:30am and left around 2pm so it was a long trying day for him. His head hurt most of the day, but is doing better this evening with the pain pills, but he is awake now because he is also on high doses of prednisone to keep the swelling down in his brain, so he pretty much is doing fine right now. I took a little nap after being up most of the night an driving back home, so i probably will be up most of the night too now. He wont go back to work until Tuesday. If he even has a job to go to, we will find out i guess....Anyway cant change it so just have to hope for the best.
You all have been so busy here, and Laurie your comments on the muffins and going down the slide and repeating yourself over, and over and over again had me cracking you, you are too funny!
So glad Hauntie is ok!
I was going to post to everyone and now cant remember what i was going to say from the previous pages so i will post later tomorrow, I have crs right now.
Have a good night everyone and again Thanks so much
-
debbie6122: So glad DH came through the surgery well and is on the way to recovery. Tell him just to go back to his job and do it as before...no confrontations with new GM, and if anything happens, to get an attorney that specializes in unfair firing practices. Usually they take the case on a contingency basis, so you don't have money out of pocket.
Sending prayers and positive energy!
-
I got a Facebook message from Hauntie (Lynda) and she will be joining us at Pickity Place. Glad to hear she is doing well, just busy with life. She's been doing PT for her knee. She hopes to be checking in here soon.
-
Whew! so glad to hear Hauntie is fine, and having fun.
Debbie, so amazing that your husband is home after a procedure like that. Cant beleive they didnt even keep him for a day for observation? Scary stuff, and to go back to wrok in just a few days! Kaara is right, they cannot fire you for health reasons and he didnt even take a lot of time off.
Michelle I had the Deip at the same time as MX and the recovery is totally doable. I was in the hosp for three days and the day I came home I saw that the dog had tracked in and the DH did not clean it up, so I swept the kitchen floor. I was totally able to take care of myself, cooked meals etc. But like Laurie said, no heavy lifting, and I didnt have kids to take care of. I like my results too...no visible lines even in a bathing suit. Mar 31 and I will be one year out! Cant beleive where the time has gone.
-
Carrie - thanks! The PS reviewed some of the restrictions like no vacuuming, no cooking (can't lift anything heavy), no laundry, etc. for a couple of weeks. I suspect I will be able to do more little things and it won't be as bad as she led me to believe. Did you have a double DIEP? I must say I am looking forward to filling out the bathing suit...adding forms to the pockets of a bathing suit or bra is a bit of a nuisance! And I don't remember - did you have a Stage II?
It's almost a year since my recurrence and my, how time has flown and oh how my life has changed!!!
-
Debbie,
Glad to hear that things wereba success and you and Chuck have returned home... Hoping for a speedy recovery for him!
Lacey,
If you get a chance I would love the recipe for the pork marinated in lemon, orange, garlic and chipotle peppers that you mentioned on the last page... Sounds yummy!!
Hauntie,
Glad to hear you being MIA for awhile was just because you were out having a good time living life!!! -
Kaara- That what i told chuck to do was just show up and do your job, the only thing with trying to fight somthing like that is, its an Indian casino, they are protected from things like that, its worse than fighting the goverment sometimes, and they get away with so much.In fact he wont get a severance pay, his insurance stops the minute he is let go, its such a rip!
Michelle- Glad you got your appointment finally for your Diep, i bet you are so happy about that, i agree what a nuisance in a bathing suit with foobies, I will never get used to that. I keep putting off calling a bs in portland mainly because its so far away to have to travel for followups and appts.but its definalty somthing i want to do.
Carrie- Its one of the reasons why he choose this over the more invasive surgery he didnt want to be off work for very long, the other one would of been 6-8 weeks the only thing we wont know the resluts until about 6 months when he has another mri if it dosnt shwo any change then he will have to have the surgery anyway. But he is doing fine today, Just a little headachy but doing good
Lacey- Hope your days are getting easier for you!
Seaside-Thanks ;-))
Bedo- You asked if it was ok to post your question here if you should go to another thread, we talk about everything here so no question is a bad question here right ladies? I think i tell you all more than i do my family and friends LOL! How are you doing?
Im making chx strips for dinner with roasted asperagus and chocolate browines for dessert that i put some kaluia in tastes so rich and yummy
-
Joyce- I'm glad the weather is better in NH and you will be going back there soon and hope its not long until its for good.
Kaara- I forgot to ask about the tomography, that sounds interresting i hav'nt heard of that either, do you have to undress and is it uselful for women with mx too?
-
debbie6122: Yes, you do have to undress from the waist up. Mine was done by a woman and she was very professional, but then I've lost all my modesty after being examined so many times! I'm sure it would work for a mx as well. The best thing is no radiation.
-
Bourbon Steak Tips w/Cheese and Garlic Roasting Potatoes.
I went to a Deli in Westford where I work and they advertised prepared traditional Grey Corned Beef and Cabbage Irish dinner for $8.99, since I am the only one that likes it I bought one for myself for tomorrow.
So tonight for suppa we will have the Steak Tips with the potats.. He is on his own tomorrow while I enjoy my St. Paddy's Day dinner.

I just had a lumpectomy with wide excision 2X to get clearer margins, rads and 4 more months of Arimidex, then I am done. (I hope)
March 23rd it will be 5 years since dx. I think I already mentioned that.
-
Deb- I didnt know you were still going through treatments and having a lumpectomy. I thought your 5 years was since everything was finished, you are in my thoughts and prayers that everything goes fast and smooth with little SE. (((((((hugs)))))
Kaara- I agree much better than the radiation
-
Oh I just read back what I wrote, I should have said, "All I had was a lumpectomy." The first surgery was April 17th and the second was May 4th of 2007. When I had my follow up after the first surgery she didn't like the looks of the margins, she said they were too close for comfort for her. The second surgery was more painful so they gave me extra dose of morphine. I threw up all the way home. Next time I need any type of surgery, no morphine for me, made me soooo sick.
-
Deb, I'm with you on that morphine avoidance pledge. I had it once from an ER doc for a herniated disc, and was so incredibly sick as it wore off. I also had a second excision, after my lumpectomy but the surgeon said that it would be much easier than my original lumpectomy, and it was...was back to work after a day. Sorry yours was more painful. Must be determined by where they have to cut.
Seaside, here's the Leo Romero (via Betty Crocker) version of Puerco Adobado:
2 chipotle peppers
6 pork loin or rib chops (or I bet pork tenderloin would be great..not popular in the 80's when this was written)
1/2 cup orange juice concentrate
1/4 cup vegetable oil (I'd use olive oil)
The juice of one lemon (about 1/4 cup)
2 Tablespoons grated orange peel
1 large clove garic minced
1 t salt (I'd do this to taste)
1 medium orange cut into six slices
Soften chipotle peppers in warm water for an hour (I bet we now have easier options than this...and even to use other peppers). Place them and rest of ingredients except for whole orange in blender and blend on low until smooth. Marinate pork in this mixture for three hours, if you are doing it in a glass dish (Easier to use a plastic bag), intermittently spoon marinade over pork.
He then talks about broiling the pork 3-5 inches from a 550 degree broiler for about ten minutes, then turn over, brushing with more marinade and broiling for another 5 minutes til done.I would be hard pressed to turn on my broiler when the gas grill is right outside. I'm sure Leo would want us to use our grills for this now.
Garnish with the orange slices. -
Lacey12: That sounds delicious! I'm going to have to remember that one the next time we have pork.
-
It is very tasty....years ago they never sprinkled it with cilantro, but I probably would now. He has another recipe for a pork roast that has some of these same ingredients as well as cumin and some other spices. Seems like citrus and garlicd is the base for both of these pork recipes. Hope you enjoy it!
-
How are your eyes today, Kaara?
-
Dinner tonight was grilled lamb chops with mint jelly, fresh green beans and small red potatoes, baked tomatoes with Italian bread crumbs topping that included parm-reg cheese and garlic. It was delicious.
-
Wow, that sounds delicious, Carole! I was busy writing reports until 6:30, so we had a Trader Joe's Greek Chicken dinner (actually pretty delish) with a kale salad with pecans, cranberries, carrots. and scallions. I think I would have preferred being at your house, tho.
-
We went out...twin lobster for $19.95. My son called us around 4 and made the suggestion, I couldn't resist. For you locals, the Pasta Loft in Milford has this special all the time. Italian Wedding Soup, salad, lobsters which were bigger than the 1 pound as advertised, and one side. It's a hard deal to beat and way more food than I can eat. But I did manage to eat the lobsters
Not sure I've actually ever had any morphine but I bet I will get some when I have my DIEP. Hope I don't have a bad reaction...ick!
-
I'm so so sory about your doggie Lacey.. must be awful.
We've been eating well in San Diego.. but it is a real chore finding, ordering food and feeding everyone. I'm glad my brain is still working because i am totally micromanaging this family vacation.. I'll be glad to get back to my kitchen where i know where all the spices are and I have my trusty freezer.
On the train tomorrow for 36 hours.. it's been a blast.
I still haven't ordered lobster.. (oh well, maybe some other time).
-
That sounds really yummy, at an unbelievable price Michelle. We'll have to try that place on one of our trips to and from the lake. The morphine thing is only short lived, just intense. I just recall DS2, hearing that I felt so sick as we came into the house from the ER, ran upstairs and set up a chair in front of the "commode" for me. Never seen such a thing before but was grateful for it especially with the disc pain. I later figured it must be something the twenty-somethings do when they are having a "rough" night. Glad he had stopped at home that night.
. I later found out from my neighbor who is a nurse that the vomiting is par for the course after morphine....but as I said, short lived as I recall. And there is probably a preventative for it as there seems to be for everything in our pharm culture. So I wouldn't worry.
-
Sorry I worried you gals. Thanks so much for caring. I'm fine, just very busy and tired. I got home today about 4:00 and crawled into bed for a nap. It's the earliest I've been home (by hours) for at least the last 2 weeks. I'm either working late or have appointments.Last night was a rare night out with friends to see a fantastic student production of Legally Blonde, at a local high school.
I also started a new hobby - crochet. I've gotten really "hooked" on it (pun intended). I'm in the process of crocheting an afghan for DB1, as a house warming/birthday gift. He is about to turn 65 and he just bought his first house. Granted, he's a very young 65 - dances, hikes, bikes, kayaks... I'm planning on visiting him over April school vacation, so I'm spending any spare time/energy working on it. Unfortunately, I haven't figured how to crochet and be on line at the same time.
I'm more than 20 pages behind on this thread. I haven't looked at any of the others I usually check. There's no hope of catching up. Michele did send me a message about the Pickity Place trip. Count me in. I hope everyone is doing well. I'm about ready to head to to bed. The nap didn't make a dent in my tiredness, especially after last night's late night out.

Hi everyone!
Apple- I am glad you are have had a great trip! Safe travels home. I've never been on a train before, do you like it?
Michelle- Your dinner sounds great, good for you for finishing the lobsters! Sounds like you had another wonderful night with family. They gave me morphine after my BMX. I couldn't sleep, came out of surgery around 3pm at almost 3 am I was still awake, uncomfortable and just laying there. The nurse decided "enough was enough" she gave me morphine and ear plugs. LOL! It worked, I had no sickness or nausea from it and slept for about three hours. All these drugs effect us so differently. Also, remember the ear plug trick. I am a light sleeper and couldn't get past all the noises.
Lacey- Thanks for sharing the recipe, it sounds really good!
Deb- lol at your St Patty's day planning and good for you!! I am looking forward to celebrating your cancerversary at Pickety Place.
Debbie- I am glad things are going ok, I hope your DH continues to do well. Between his health and the work situation your stress level must be high. (((((hugs)))))
Today was a weird day food wise. I met a friend for lunch and had Mexican yum!! Then tonight we took my in laws out for their birthdays. I was not hungry at all. Ordered a sandwich and ate half of it. Spent most of the evening with an angry belly. I am not used to eating out!! But it's doing better now thank goodness. I am looking forward to my corned beef and cabbage dinner on Sunday. The weather this weekend is supposed to be amazing, Yay!!
-
Thanks for the condolence, Apple. I am relieved to say that by late Wednesday, I finally collected myself. For several says this week, I was a pathetic mess in my grief over saying goodbye to our little "dogter",Lacey. Coming home after work was awful for a few days, and I cried and cried so much more than I ever did for our other dogs who had died over the years. Maybe the total empty nest now, maybe never having had the time to grieve my BC, maybe knowing our plan not to get another dog....or maybe just missing her sweet, loyal presence. Who knows...but I'm glad the painful weight lifted gently and unexpectedly ....and we are now finding people to give our usable dog items to.
She was a specal little pooch to us for the past 15 years.
Sounds like your trip West was great! San Diego is so idyllic, isn't it? Sounds like you might be dreaming up some good cookin' plans on your train ride home. Will be waiting fo your posts.Enjoy a safe and relaxing trip!
-
Apple- Glad you are enjoying your train trip, i have never been on one before sounds exciting, you get to see much more of the country that way. Have fun and safe travels
Lacey- That recipe does sound good i will have to copy/paste it and make it sometime/
Michelle- I dont like morphone either, had that with my lung surgery and it didnt even take the pain away just made me sick- You could ask for something different cant remember what i had with my mx but it worked so much better
Laurie-Glad you got a girls day out sorry about you had an upset stomach- Maybe a Margaritta will settle it LOL!
I love my DH but oh boy dont know if i can handle the blaring tv until he goes back to work-And i mean blaring i can hear it all through the house ha! Before he got knew he had the tumor he started having trouble hearing in the right ear (same side as tumor) so he got a hearing aide. Thought it was going to improve after the gamma knife but i think its worse, i didnt want to complain so i just said, honey hows your hearing? He said, What? i said hows your hearing he said i think its fine, i said ok just wanted to know, didnt have the heart to tell him how loud the tv was LOL!
Didnt have any popcorn left and no ice cream and i was craving somthing sweet so i mixed some hershersy cocoa with some sweet and lo and cream then mixed it with some frozen cool whip it tasted just like chocolate ice cream Yummm!!!
Every one have a great weekend
Hauntie- Thanks for checking in we missed ya!
-
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Today is boyfriend's birthday..he was named appropriately...Patrick! We'll celebrate tonight...dinner out with his kids and they are treating. Today he's doing his favorite thing...playing golf...and I'm enjoying the solitude of the house like I do every Saturday morning.
Lacey: My eyes seem normal...thanks for asking. I go Monday just for a check, and then get another shot in about a month. Good to have the long break between shots.
