Dinner was a casserole with ground beef, kernel corn, pinto beans, brown rice, sour cream, grated cheese, green onions, taco seasoning.  It's a WW recipe that's vegetarian but I added the lean ground round.  Delicious salad with heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, and fresh mozzarella.  Oil and vinegar dressing.  I bought the heirloom tomatoes at Fresh Market today.  Also the fresh mozzarella.

A new Cooking Light magazine in the mail today.

Sally~Don't worry, it's not mine. LOL

I have to prepare my soil in my garden, I would like to grow some heirloom tomatoes.  I did not have a very good crop last year, but the year before was red and yellow tomatoes, also had some great crop of peppers.

    LOL Laurie

I used to be a preceptor at my job all day and then go home to my toddler.  Why...?  Why... ? Why...? I was asked all day long and then after I came home too!  I didn't even want to talk!  I tried to tell my daughter one day that I couldn't answer another question today.... she asked me.....you guessed it... "Why?"  I used to love those talking books that would "ding!" when it was time to turn the page.  It would jolt me out of my snooze long enough to turn the page when my daughter wanted a book "read" to her.

Is it time to prepare the soil?  I have a plot in a community organic garden.  Do we plant early this year because of the warm weather?  Have to have my buddy turn the soil then!  Goodnight!

    Deborye,

Don't lose heart... Last year was a really bad year for tomatoes... Too wet and cool! I had a great crop the year before last but, last year..... horrible!

    Bedo,

Beer for dinner is, sometimes, just what you need! Hope your job smooths out soon! That has to be just so incredibly frustrating!

    Laurie,

A nice glass of wine is often my calm in the storm of life.... I so remember those days of the endless..... Mom..mama.... mom....mom... Mommy... And I thought back to the first word that they spoke, which was in my kids case DaDa...lol! So then I thought back to the second word... Mama... I was just over the moon happy.... Little did I know how overused it would become in the years that followed!

Bedo:  Let's hear it for the beer dinner.  Did you add Chetos?  My dinner last night was wine - Silver Range Cabernet Savigon.  In fact I managed to put away 3/4 of a bottle while talking on the phone passing along the sad news that a neighbor had given up & passed on.  That's why supper tonight had to be meat & carbs & veg.  Now I'm ready for a bowl of popcorn.

Morning everyone!  Prayers for Debbie & DH...hoping all goes well for them.

Dinner last night was simple...grilled chicken breasts with roasted brussel sprouts and carrots and a salad. Tonight we are going to dinner at a Karioke place (sp?) with some friends.

Today I am having my first thermography...it's been three months since my bc surgery so want to see if anything is brewing in there.  I am going to alternate with mammograms every three months for a while. It's completely non invasive and no radiation, so safe.  I'm just hoping for no suspicious areas, although, they would probably be so small they would only bear watching because it catches them so early.  Anything large enough to be a problem would require an MRI for further diagnostics.

Kaara  Good luck today with your thermography,  I have not heard of it before, but will now investigate.

Laurie, I remember those days...I once told my kids to stop saying mom for just a few minutes and give me a break....and guess what...they said...Carrieee   Now I would give my right arm to have them here and talking my ear off.

Last night at mexican restaurant  I had a really good pork something or other, really cant get all the mexican terms of whats what, but the waiter told me they cook the pork slowly in pepsi and orange juice  WTH?  It was delicious, and of course the frozen margarita was great too.  I only had one small one.  Ha Ha saving up for St Patricks Day

    Debbie  Prayers for your husband.

Have a great day everyone.  Carrie O'Berry

    Kaara,

That thermography is a new one on me... Will have to read up on it... I alternate Mammos and MRI every 6 months but, would really love it if I could ditch the MRI... Those freak me out a bit!

    Carrie,

Lol on the kids switching to Carrieeeee...

    Debbie and Chuck....

Thinking of you and sending up prayers today as Chuck has his surgery!!!

Seaside...you would still have to have an MRI if anything suspicious showed up, as a mammo could not catch it that early, but at least you could go longer between MRI's if all was normal.  The goal is to catch suspicious areas before they become big problems.

The only reason my onc and BS want me to have MRI once a year and Mam once a year is b/c I have dense breast tissue.

Kaara- good luck today!  I hope you get great results immediately:)

Debbie- thinking of you and Chuck today, I hope everything goes smoothly.

Joyce- I hope you find something fun to do to cheer up your DH.  Chocolate cake sounds like it was a good start!

Seaside- I was the same way with being called Mama.  The day I switched from Mama to Mommy was pretty sweet too.  Now it's all I hear!  Funny how things change!

Carrie- lol at your kids calling you by your given name when you asked them to stop!  They can be so funny sometimes huh? I always try to remind myself that I am going to miss this time...but some days I would kill for some silence!  Your margerita sounds wonderful- I love mexican food, I have heard of the orange soda thing before, not in a restaurant though.

Last nights chicken cor don bleu came out really good. It always makes me feel good when DH not only cleans his plate but waits patiently to eat what is left on mine and the kids plates! He finishes looks at me and says "damn that was good!" Tonight by request is pot roast so I have that going in the crock pot now.

This morning I asked the boys what they wanted to do today.  DS#1 says well, what do we have to do? I told him nothing. He says errands? Grocery store? No and no. He says then I just want to stay home. He NEVER wants to just stay home. So that is what we are doing. We went outside for a bit but the sun isn't out and it's chilly so we came in and made muffins and played football in the kitchen. Now they are eating their muffins with  milk and ruining their lunch- ohwell.  Sometimes it's ok to ruin lunch right?

Laurie - there are worse things than homemade muffins to ruin lunch!!!  Sounds like your boys are having a great day with their mom Laughing

Debbie - thinking about you and Chuck, and wishing a speedy recovery.

Joyce - hope you can amuse your DH today.  Maybe some Park Avenue ribs would bring him some comfort Wink

I went to see my DIEP surgeon today and next week her scheduler will book me for early August.  Can't wait to get that over and done with!  It will be 12 hours - or a nice nap for me.

It's not all that nice out, but the grill is coming out this evening to cook the NY strip steaks we were supposed to have last night.  I've also got mushrooms and asparagus to go with it.  Yum!

Michelle  We are doing grilled steak also, my sons request, with baked potatos and vege and deviled eggs, his request also. Gorgeous here at 70 deg.

My Ds and I went to the outlet mall to find some bargains...got him some new clothes for summer to go back to school...he always says he doesnt need anything but I know he must, plus I needed a little retail therapy.

Laurie  I agree with Michelle....muffins make a great pre-lunch snack. They are best warm outta the oven, cant beat that.

Laurie:  What a great Mommie and homemaker you are!  It's so wonderful to be a stay at home Mom..the kids get such a good start.  I was able to do it until my youngest was five, then I had to go back to work, but I enjoyed it for eleven years.

Had my thermography today...you stand in front of a camera with your hands behind your head and turn in three different directions while the camera captures it on a computer screen, then you put your hands in cold water for one minute and repeat the process.  Completely painless and non invasive.  I will get the results next week.  I could see some red areas showing up on my breasts, but the technician said don't worry about it, the radiologist is the only one who can interpret it.  She was telling me that a thermography caught a suspicious area in her breast that was pinpointed on an MRI, that would not have shown up on mammogram for another five years.  This all makes sense to me, yet the conventional doctors don't want to hear about it.

I sent a Facebook message to Hauntie (Lynda).  Hopefully, I will hear from her soon.  I think I have her phone number, too.

DH cooked a great dinner - steaks and veggies on the grill (with a little help from his sous chef, me).  And we drank a bottle of Louis Martini cabernet.  I'm really quite relaxed now and it's only 7:06!!!  We are watching this week's American Idol.  We have lots of recorded programs to catch up on.

Kaara - hoping your thermography comes back clear.

Carrie - woohoo for retail therapy!

So what's everyone doing for St. Patty's Day???

Michelle- dinner sounds good!  Your Dh has really gotten good int he kitchen huh?  Love it!

Kaara- I too hope you get great results, it sounds interesting, I've never heard of it before.  Not that that says much ;P

I am the Beer widow for St Patty's.  Dh is the supervisor for the Northern part of NH and he will be going bar to bar to make sure everyone is happy, that his guys are following through and buying other people beers.  Rough life huh?  He said he plans on leaving for 9:30 and is hoping to be home before the boys go to bed for 8.  But I have a corned beef to cook on Sunday when he is around.

Carrie I thought of you tonight.  A girlfriend of mine asked me to meet her for lunch tomorrow at my favorite Mexican place.  Ummmm. YHA!  I have to work in the am and the kids will go to my in laws.  I'll get my stuff done and ,meet her for a Margarita and some Mexican food after.  I am psyched!

Kaara I love brussle sprouts and carrots!  Tender little babies with butter and salt and pepper.  Did you know that those "baby" carrots are really big carrots cut up with a machine to appear small? I was so disapointed when I learned that.

Deboreye Stop bragging about your dense breasts.  Some of us have fatty breasts. I will be there at your house!

Laurie, I am playing a "sounds of rain" tape from you tube on my computer.  It put my cats to sleep, but they are easily fooled.  Might work for your kids?

Michelle Good luck with your DIEP!

Carberry retail therapy makes me feel good.  :)  Unless it's clothes for work. Yuck.

    Hi everyone else!

Debbie, I hope everything went OK today!

Just a question, since I feel comfortable asking it here.  8 months after lumpectom and radiation, can you massage the fibrotic tissue in affected breast? Seems there are lumps and bumps that are not going away and 'pull' if I move, so are uncomfortable.  Thanks, and if I should ask in a different forum please let me know.  Still can't get into my MO due to work etc, but recent mammo was OK

Bedo- massage is great for breasts with lumpectomy or MX.  I had been going to a PT for over 6 months and she insisted I massage mine.  Lind of weird but....it helped a lot.  I have no sensation in mine though so it's like rubbing someone elses leg, lol!  You want to use two to three fingers, apply pressure and drag in the same direction as muscle flow etc, it stretches things out.

Michelle- I am jealous, I wish I would have done the DIEP.  You will do amazing in August without a doubt!

Debbie- saw your post on facebook, I am glad things went well today and hope you both get some rest.  Keep us posted.

Bedo - as Laurie says, massage is good.  My plastic surgeon, just today, told me to start massaging my incision area to loosen things up.  I feel like I have a wide rubber band around my chest and hopefully this will help.

Debbie - hoping you and Chuck can relax and he will heal from the procedure.  And wishing for complete success!

My BS tried to push me toward having the DIEP but I wasn't interested.  The recovery was longer and I didn't like the idea of the abdominal incision.  I wanted to get back to playing golf as soon as possible.  I think I started playing again after about 8 weeks.  I went for the 1-step because the mx and reconstruction were all done during the same surgery.  The results aren't perfect, and I could have some tweaking done, but at my age, I would need to have my whole body tweaked!  As a lot of ladies have said, one size doesn't fit all.

Laurie, I admire you and all stay-at-home moms.  It's a lot easier to drop the little ones off at the day care than take care of them 7/24.  My nephew's wife had a baby and couldn't wait to get back to work.  She loves the little girl but was outspoken in saying she would lose her mind if she had to stay home.  Her mother-in-law (my sil) takes care of Halle.  I guess it all works out.  Halle is definitely not lacking attention.

I chose not to have children and made the right decision for me.  I'm one of six children and decided I didn't want to make the sacrifices my mother made.  Ironically, I'm the one who looks after my mother!  The non-care-giver turned out to be the care-giver.  Life is strange.

Carol- I made the same recon choice as you for the same reasons.  I researched and was all set to do a TRAM or DIEP and then heard about recovery time.  My youngest was 7 months old and my older 2 1/2.  They said I wouldn't be able to lifet them for 12 weeks!  I had a lot of help but I think everyone would have been sick of helping before the 12 weeks were up!  So I did implants and could lift them in 5.  But when I read the threads about sensation and natural feel sometimes I wish I would have said screw it and gone for the gusto.  Ohwell.  I am happy with what I have and happy I could go back to my nutty life asap.

I have to admit I lol when ever you ladies commend me for being a great mom!  I am the nutty mom.  I AM losing my mind being here with the kids!  Only I have no where to go!!  I think at times of going back to work and doing day care but I could never do it, I have invested so much already I need to follow through now.  Once they are both in school (3 more years) I will work full time again.  I miss having money and having a reason to put on something other than a t shirt and jeans.  I used to do commercial lending for a bank and wore a suit every day.  Now I make muffins and go down slides....and say the same things over and over and over.

Carol- I applaud your decision to not have children.  I had a hard time conceiving and DH suggested  seeing a fertility specialist.  For me I thought, if I am supposed to have kids I will.  If not then I will get to do what I want, for the most part and have none of that responsibility.  I was ok with that too, vacations, sleeping in, a bloody mary with breakfast on a Sunday etc.  I had my son after three years of trying....what will be will be and I am thankful.  But, as people without children can crave the lives of those with children at times.  There are some of us honest enough to admit we crave your lives without at times too!

I'm not sure I'd have DIEP if I were 20 years younger with four kids to worry about.  But I'm on the other side of that curve, and now my four kids can help take care of me Wink   I didn't want to have implants , then have to worry about surgery to replace them when in my 70's.  Definitely different strokes for different folks.  And after four kids, a tummy tuck sounds like a good idea.

Carole, Interesting how life turns out, eh? And I would not consider yourself as the "non-care-giver", when you for sure are providing a lot of care for your mom! Was your mexican meal Puerco Abodabo?

If anyone is interested, I can post a recipe from my old trusty Betty Crocker Mexican Cookbook. it is a great recipe with prok marinated in lemon, orange, garlic and chopotle peppers....one of my favorite dishes at Casa Romero in Back Bay (in its heyday, in the 70's).

Debbie, sounds like you and DH have made it home safe and sound. Good rest and recovery!

Laurie, your DH's job is pretty labor intense on Paddy's Day, eh?!

It is kind of ironic that babies usually say DADA first, then spend the rest of their young years invoking mom's name...pretty smart, I'd say.

So what is DIEP? I am clueless.... thanks.

Lacey - DIEP is basically a tissue transfer - a micro-vascular surgeon transplants fat and skin from the abdomen to the chest to form a breast (or two).  A similar procedure can be done using fat and skin from the hip area.  It can be done at the time of a mastectomy or it can be delayed, even several years later.
