Agree with Alpal - and Blue. This is the place to come, Mary, and I hope writing it down helped you. I cried for Yan too.
Oops - edited to add - didn't see ((((Linda's))))) post.
-
Mary, it's been a tough day. Please let your student know that your door is open to her. She'll need you later.
-
It has been a dreadful day.
Sandy
-
Mary - from my umpty two years of teaching, I'd say you did a lot of good today with that student just by being there, listening to her and by giving her the opportunity to reach her own conclusions. No matter what you say or do, the student is going to have her heart broken when her parent dies. You can't stop that. But you have eased her way.
-
(((MARY))) and (((LINDA))) My heart hurts for you. And for Yan and his boys. Prayers going up for all.
-
Thanks for the hugs everyone. I often think, though, that the longer someone is in your life, the harder it must be to see (or let) them go......I only wish my memories of my mother didn't always circle back to her illness.
I'll be thinking of Yan and the children this morning as they say their final goodbye to sweet Olga.
-
This has been a very tough 24 hours in BCO. We also lost khartoregon, whose posts I always found lively and intelligent.
-
What a horribly sad day. I'm thinking of Yan and the boys too.
-
I agree Athena -- it's been rough. Too sad to bear.
-
Seems its been a rough week all over. I haven't been at this site long enough to know Yan and Olga, and any of the others who have been lost. We lost a sister at Komen this week, and a little one in Nashville who fought valiently against a childhood cancer, both passed the same day. I have found for myself that as heartbreaking as it is to lose a bc sister or brother, I simply can not handle when cancer takes a little one. A friend of mine organizes "Songs for the Cure" in Nashville for children with cancer, and I had to back away and opt out after a few months because I just can't handle it.
My Dad is tired of fighting, but doesn't have enough of his mental faculties to hang onto that thought long enough to give up the fight. The cancer is horrible, but I think the Alzheimers is a crueler beast in what it steals from the patient and the family.
My doom and gloom has been deepened by the realization that according to some on this site, I am a scary, subversive, evil human being because I support SEIU by belonging to their online health care advocate community. Excuse me while I go make more diabolical plans with my evil henchmen! Send an alert to Beck and the rest at Faux Gnus!
Personally, I think you need to be more concerned with the plans that Goldman Sachs and their like have for this country.
-
My heart just aches for all who have lost a loved one to cancer. It is such a curse on humanity. I just knew Yan from a few posts but he was such an advocate for his wife. I can't imagine the empty spot in his heart.
-
IJBCA, sending you hugs. I lost an aunt to Alzheimers. I know how devastating that illness is to loved ones. My mother is in the early stages.
You are not evil! I'm only now starting to feel a little better after that vicious attack a few weeks ago. That was evil!
-
IJBCA:
Amen to the Goldman Sachs argument - as if they haven't already decimated the country.

Shirley
Parents may have changed at the school where your son teaches, I do not know about that.
But I do know that the people in the small rural town where my kids went to a Title I school have not changed much. They are still hardworking people who try to prvoide the best for their kids. They hunt and fish and garden for food. They work when work is available. It is not only lazy apathetric people who are poor. In fact most poor people I know are caring hardworking people.
-
IJBCA, nice to meet another member of the gang.
-
Ironjaw: Why would you take it as a personal attack upon yourself because an issue was posted concerning SEIU? We all have to do what it takes to survive and if SEIU offers you help in your time of need who would criticize you for taking it? I tried to make the point that I thought SEIU, in itself, was not the problem but certain people (who I find "used" to be a part of it) seem to be. We don't want to destroy an institution that helps others because they have or had people involved with them who wanted to do bad actions against our country. I am sooooo sorry you took this personally. We have things wrong with our country too but that does not mean ALL Americans are terrible people because they live here.
I am so sorry about the sufferings you are going through with your family especially your dad. I think if there is any disease worse than cancer it is Alhziemers. Cancer destroys our bodies but Alhziemers destroys our mines and can make the lives of our loved ones a living Hell! I do hope you can find the strength to cope with the burdens you are suffering with at this time. Once again, I am so sorry you took anything I posted as a personal attack. I am so glad SEIU is helping you with what you need at this time in your life.
-
Believe me, I am not taking it as a personal attack, which is why the smile is included at the conclusion of the paragraph! I was being my sarcastic self. I make no apology for supporting the efforts of SEIU in defending the rights of the American worker.
-
IJBCA: Sorry, I missed the smiley. I know certain workers who are suffering greatly because they have no union or SEIU to go to bat for them. In this day and age, I think workers desperately need a backup! I am so glad to hear you are at the bat for workers you are involved with.
-
It is amazing to me how successful some are being at pointing the finger at workers and the ever shrinking middle class as being the cause of all problems. Propaganda in action.
If unions are totally busted as some are trying to do the results will affect every worker ... and they will not be good results for anybody who works.
I was never in a job where I was a member of the union. Quite the contrary ... I represented the management side in union matters. Even in a federal agency with rules and regulations I can tell you that some of the stuff local and even regional management wanted to do would curl your hair. I will admit to many times being quite thankful that I could inform them that the union contract did not allow them to do something.
I don't want to stir up a hornet's nest but a lot of the comments I am seeing other places online about unions reek of jealousy. I don't have this benefit ... why should they? The fact is that the existence of unions ... and the better working conditions and pay and benefits they fought for ... transferred over to other jobs too. Employers had to match them to get the best employees. If they manage to kill off the unions and do away with employment and safety rules and regulations our children are going to have working lives much worse than what we did.
I just wish everybody would take a good hard look at who is pointing the finger and consider their motives and what they have to gain by destroying unions also.

Sorry to change the topic, but here's a fun article about Palin!

She says she done whining! bwahahaha! That will never happen.

Yucky Palin!!! I'd rather talk about SEIU! BTW, "glorious hairy The Don" is looking for Obama's birth certificate! Guess he is really serious about throwing his hairless hat in the ring!! Fun times in Washington shall return! But when I think about Saragal getting serious about the Presidency, I am ready to vote for Joe Mac Dokes. (Any oldtimers remember "Joe"?) This keeps up and we can put Shirley's name in the ring. She at least seems to know more about the issues than Saragal, imo!
Oh Goody! Instead of asking for donations for BCO, we can start a new thread for donations to run Shirley. (If she reads this, I think she may already be running.....out of state! ) Just kidding Melissa. I think we could just set us a stand by Walmarts and ask for donations for Shirley's run.
-
Medigal, I have something else for you to read and watch. No, I'm not running...LMBO! I might want to RUN AWAY after posting this.
I wonder how many union MEMBERS know that the communist party is so involved with their movement. I do not for one minute believe that the majority of union members want to be associated with Communist Party USA. I believe the communist party is USING union members for their own agenda. If you want to stick your head in the sand...................

Are Communists Hijacking the Anniversary of Dr. King's Assassination?
Posted on March 24, 2011 at 11:16am
Monday, April 4th is the 43rd anniversary of an atrocious event that stained our past, the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis.
April 4th is not too far off, so how will you mark the day? Possibly with quiet contemplation about how far we have come as a nation? Comparing America in 1968 to America in 2011, some might say we have made considerable progress on the subject of race relations, while others argue that there is still work to be done. And there are others, namely the Communist Party USA, who want to hijack the day and use it for their own agendas.
For the uneducated, Communism is defined as:
From Princeton University: a form of socialism that abolishes private ownership
From Wikipedia: Communism is a social structure in which, theoretically, classes are abolished and property is commonly controlled
Now that we know communism's foundation includes the removal of private ownership, meaning that the government (that efficient and trustworthy group in Washington DC) will decide how much you earn, how you live, where you live and just about everything else in your life, we should familiarize ourselves with the Communist leaders in America.
So, Marshall wants April 4th to be A National Day of Action, and his organization will be a vital party to ‘Massive Demonstrations.' And he is not alone, the network of community organizers across the country is in place and working overtime. Under the umbrella of WE ARE ONE (an alleged non-profit organization with very little information available as to where they are and who is funding them) people around the country are being encouraged to take part in various events. A quick check of plans in the New York City area reveals no less than 17 scheduled actions. Around the country, there are dozens of ‘afl-cio we are ones across the country.'
The Communist Party USA feels empowered by the latest round of protests popping up all over the country. They also see an opportunity to change America into a communist country.
The CPUSA folks are hoping to join other Leftist organizations with plans for demonstrations on 4-4-2011, and as stated by their Vice-Chairman, the idea is to embed communist party members deep inside groups like MoveOn, SEIU, AFSCME & the American Federation of Teachers.
One wonders if all of these union workers are aware that the people standing shoulder to shoulder with them in these protests are folks whose greatest dream is to have all property rights abolished.
Meet the Communist Party USA, and their Vice-Chairman, Scott Marshall.

Wow, Shirley, that video was pretty freaky and scary to me.
-
Bren, that was hilarious! It didn't even happen for a minute. It was like, "I'm through" whining and then she whined.
-
Shirley: Sorry you won't run but then again I have too much research to do to help my country to be able to stomp for funds for you. Maybe in another life.
That link you posted didn't scare me. It's what I expect to happen just didn't realize how fast they are starting to move. What upsets me is that so many innocent people may think they are doing good and be steered into being used as pawns in very bad actions in our country. They will think they are helping their country but will be joining ranks with the Communist Party right here in our own country. Oh! There I go again being a "scare monger" ! Well it doesn't matter because those people with their heads in the sand can't read what I am posting anyway and the others can put me on Ignore if they want. However, while I can "still" have freedom of speech, I am going to use it. I refuse to play dead before I am. I have been proactive all my life and now that the pot is really getting hot, this is no time to stop.
Thanks again Shirley for helping to keep us (those that want the info) on top of the latest issues.
Have a great day! I am going out to eat since this is my 50th Wedding Anniversary with DP. I promised him only 5 years but somehow I got forgetful and now it has been 50!! I hope I can digest my food after reading your info, Shirley. I'll just take my Zantac with me before I eat. I never let indigestion keep me from reading upsetting news.

Oh for Pete's sake ... must we find monsters around every corner and under every bed
How many friggin 'others' do we need to find to hate and be afraid of? And just how is screaming and yelling and pointing fingers at Communists, Socialists, Muslims, Chinese, etc. etc. ad naseum going to solve any of our problems.
Diversion is what I see. If you can't shoot the message ... make the messenger look like an evil bad guy. Don't look here ... look over there instead! THEY want to take your money and your property and probably your first born too ... Danger, Danger!!! And meanwhile ...
-
WhiteRabbit, you strike me as someone like myself who refuses to run around with my hair on fire reacting to every rumor. I would like to share the following with you, and with any others here, because really "We Are One."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw9KNP1OTG8
And for inquiring minds, I found it useful not to panic over every headline at Buzzflash during the Bush presidency. That calm served me well.
-
White Rabbit: I am so glad you finally realize where the monsters are. They "are" every place you don't want to look and they look just like the rest of us. How is letting our enemies change our nation as we know it going to solve our problems? We are not scare mongering. We are just making public to our group what is going on right under their noses. If you don't want to read it then just hop back into your nice (for now) safe rabbit hole and leave the rest of us to cope with the problems. No one says you have to take up your carrot and bang the enemies with it. Just enjoy eating it (while you can). Have a nice day. I am heading out.

The Blaze? Really? This "news" or "revelation" comes from The Blaze? The website funded by Glenn Beck? Really? Glenn Beck? The same person who called Obama a racist? Who warns of a Caliphate? Really? <<<<<YAWN>>>>
Next week, The Blaze reveals that Obama is actually being controlled by Martians! Apparently Martians impregnated Obama's grandmother to give birth to a daughter who would one day marry a black man. Soon, Martians will come back, disguised as Obama's dog -- oh no!! the dog!!!--and take over the White House and the US govt. Quick! Everyone, get your dogs checked to make sure they are not really Martians out to take over the US!!!!!!!
-
Mary .. I'm going to get Tank checked right away.
Thanks for the heads up,
Bren
